Fun fact, the butterflies on the butterfly wall were featured in the “Silence of the Lambs.”
I also had my college portfolio show and graduation in the Soldiers and Sailors Museum just up the road. The portfolio review was in the same room where Hannibal Lecter kills the prison guards and escapes the cage.
Sarabi they wanted to rent my uncles van, but he didn’t. Still has all the paperwork from production🙃
Mo Mo, that’s really cool! “Silence of the Lambs” was one of the first horror movies I ever owned. It’s still one of my favorites.
Sarabi What a memory! LOL ‘ I’m from PHH and have been to the soldiers and Sailors Museum. Imagine if someone had had his prom there!! Imagine telling people THAT story!
Someone went to AIP lol
Karen Knight Unfortunately, yes. 🙃
15:00 can hear the screaming call of the babyanoyingsorous
IKR like how can parents let kids just scream like that esp in a museum or closed in place .. If that was my kid Id be like stop that right now NO screaming and yelling in the museum The lady (or man) who runs it will kick you out
@ANNIHILATION TV yeah I def would have said something to the parents and if they did listen Id prob start up my own Ricky from Trailer park boys moan .. "oh my fk wht the hell is that racket??!!"
@ANNIHILATION TV hehe well thank you sir Lovely to see another TPB fan :D Im kinda addicted to the show (I thought was mainly Donny that yelled out the obscenities .. but the other TPB'ers like Bubbles and ricky use that OMF expression haha)
@ANNIHILATION TV yes there are bad parents but sometimes babies cry and MOST TRY
I am not ordinarily a fan of taxidermy, but some of these historic pieces are exceptionally well done and beautiful. Taxidermy enjoyed a "golden age", if you will. I am impressed by the well done pieces.
When I was in my 20s, I worked in the office of an insulation business and had a taxidermied duck behind my desk. I could see the tips of its wings in my periphery as I typed up invoices and ads. I avoided touching it, as it was dusty and "skeevy". This work is like the Rolls Royce compared to the Ford Escort we see in the midwest on a regular basis.
Taxidermy Dioramas have been my favorite since I was very, very small. This museum is absolutely beautiful and I never knew it existed! Thank you, once again, for sharing an incredible find!
if you are ever in PGH you need to go see it in person....there is tons more to it that he didnt cover in a video. There is also a world class art museum connected to it that is part of the admission price..and a fanastic Library that is accessible thru the hallways in the museum. (has some super cool floors made of green glass--freaky to walk on)
@@vickiechandler3112 You are right - It is a fabulous museum. The library is a treasure as well.
Growing up in PGH, I thought every other museum had a lots of dinosaur skeletons - it was a shock to learn that wasn’t true!
Thanks for this. I practically grew up in that wonderful museum. This video brought it all back to me. Phipps Conservatory just across the bridge from the museum is also a beautiful place. There used to be a Nature Museum with interactive questionnaires and rescued wildlife that could be observed among other things related to nature. Pittsburgh is full of such gems.
You're really seeing a lot this year! It's definitely inspiring!
RhettyforFun Hi Rhetty. How are you and the family doing with these heavy storms?
@@nadiazahroon6573 Hi Nadia! So far so good. We've been fortunate. One small leak in the roof around a vent. A little fence damage and trash cans floating down the road. Nothing major compared to others. Thanks for asking though.
Baggerism of the day: just want to say, was so nice to see carpetbagger and mrs. carpetbagger back together online last night in livestream. Made my day!!!
That was great to see!
qdood, I agree. Sometimes when hitting a rocky patch in a long marriage you have to hold tight & ride it out. All will be well. (I speak from experience!)
I really love these vintage taxidermy displays Jacob, nothing quite like petting a lion or bear. The first display you filmed with the manniquin containing a real human skull, I saw the video online with the ex rays on the exibit and apparently the very same victorian taxidermist who made this also stole an African warrior from his grave back in the 1800's and stuffed him. It was on display for years until the museum had it removed, broke it down and returned the human remains back to his people back in Africa. The piece was entitled in french but translated as 'The Black Man'.
of course! the one singular black man.
I love the Carnegie museum!! I always used to go there when I was little. Haven’t been there in a while tho. 😌
I spent a lot of my time there as a kid, too. It is a WONDERFUL museum.
I have a weird fear of taxidermy and I wish I could describe the visceral panic induced when you started petting that lion. Still love the video though!
Jacob you always have the best commentary.
Hope you enjoyed my hometown museum!! Lots of great memories from my childhood’! Still a world class museum!
Tell the truth, you have eleven other clones going out and having all this fun in so many diverse places, right? How do you have twelve adventures while I'm still packing to get on the road?!
Next time in the burgh, check out the 1st floor classrooms at the Tower of learning and the Heinz Cathedral.
the cathedral of learning lol
The Cathedral Of Learning classrooms decorated at Christmas in their native handmade ornaments made by the loving hands of native volunteers!
This is my favorite museum. They shut down the dinosaur part when I was little for remodeling, and I was so upset. One year they had Bog People. My family is from Pittsburgh, so we went almost every year
I was there when they had the bog people! I was terrified, but I was also, like 8. Lol
Some insight on why those birds look "so dead" based on personal experience: when my beloved parrot passed away, within minutes he had assumed that stretched out position that those toucans and canary were in and was frozen like that. I can imagine it's hard to taxidermy birds that have already seized. (My poor baby was suffering from a brain tumor, we knew he wouldnt live as long as others and he died via seizure so that may also explain why he froze)
I once heard about a flock of birds that flew through a cloud of marijuana smoke. Left no Tern unstoned
Lol
lol
😆😂😆
When he said "imagine if he stepped on your face" I laughed so hard! I'm glad I'm not the only one to have a mind like yours!
Things you cannot unsee - a dead Tweety Bird and Toucan Sam.
I spent a lot of time in that place growing up. Haven't been there in 15 years. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Still One of my favorite places on earth.
@15:00 why is there always a screaming baby in these things.
Cos thats what babies do lol scream and give you headache hehe!
@@richardevppro3980 thank god for birth control.
@@tmudd24 I so agree and seriously some bad parents of some young kids let their young kids run and course havoc and need help in parenting skills badly i hear some parents let a child throw rocks at a zoo and broke a flamingos leg so it had to be destroyed peace Yoder :)
Richard Biffaman fuck parents who don’t teach their kids to not throw stones at animals.
You could argue that a screaming baby is the quintessence of what is being taught by this museum, look at it as one of the characteristics of the human species and allow yourself to take Wonder in that as well. I mean what do you want to do, grab it by the ankles and start smashing it the way the wild ape guy does with that bone in "2001" right before spaceships start floating by so peaceful? Jeez, calm down everybody...
A lot of "good" childhood memories. Our Girl Scout Troop had a lock in at the museum and my Daughter & Neice had to sleep under T.REX! GOD bless you Jacob. I am so glad you made it to Pittsburgh. You won't have any problem finding interesting things while there. All 3 in the same building. The Science Center, the IMAX theater, & laser show is on the North side of Pittsburgh. Hope you make it there too!
he did one on the science center a few days ago but dont forget the sub they have there too. :)
My favorite museum of all time! I grew up going to Carnegie Museum of natural history, and the art museum!
It's been years since I've been to Carnegie. It's was always amazing. If you had a chance to check out the class rooms, I always loved the architecture even as a child😌
Loved the vid. Grew up in that museum. My uncle was the assistant curator there. Spent many an hour in the back areas of the museum in the 50's and 60's. Thanks for the memories. I wastherefor the original opening of the dinosaur hall
I love how you said " Never more" at the raven section like the one in the Munsters clock says classic Jacob. 😆
wow! can't believe how close to 200k you are!
It is currently 4/21/20 during the covid 19 shutdown/lockdown and I almost pp'd myself several times while watching this because of your commentary. Thank you so much ! I needed that more than you will ever know. Fondeling taxidermy.....The call of the babyannoyingsorous...OM !! Take care and bless you and yours.
They also have a Egyptian boat there. The boat, which was discovered outside of Cairo in the Dashur pyramid complex, is currently on display in Walton Hall of Ancient Egypt. Egyptologists believe that the boat, one of four discovered at Dashur, was used in funerary rituals to transport the pharaoh’s body across the Nile where it was mummified and buried.
Glad you made it to the Carnegie. I thought for sure you would show the diorama that has the water hole (very cool one, that you can actually"walk" into and be part of (has an insert and the ground is part of it) For anyone going there is a tree display right near it ....make sure to look up
I'm glad you got to the Carnegie. The art museum is also nice. The next time that you're in Pittsburgh.see the History Center., the Carnegie Science Center,Clayton , Phipps Conservatory and the National Aviary. South of the city is the PA Trolley Museum.where you can ride old trolleys.
We use to have a cave you could crawl in at the mummy exhibit, you crawled in and stand up and there would be a real mummy on each side of you.... it was the most terrifying thing to me as a kid 😂 I got stories on this place👏🏼
It's been fun watching your show while in quarantine. Can't wait to see what you do after we can roam around again safely.
One of my all time favorite museums in the country.
"Carpetbagger: Look at those ribs. Imagine if you could eat ribs that were that big."
Me: Hell yeah! 😀
Like The "FLINSTONES"
When I visited Pittsburgh a few years ago I wanted to check out this museum, but the people I was traveling with did not, so I didn't get to go. It looks like it would have been interesting to see, maybe I will get to check it out on a future visit. I did enjoy seeing the National Aviary and Pittsburgh Zoo though.
My father is lucky enough to have a deer head mount done by the taxidermist that worked on some of the large mammals in the museum, its amazingly well done.
I felt the emotions...seen it all in your face.. priceless..
Go to the Heinz history center it’s amazing
Loved this tour of the museum!
That looks like the best museum ever! How often do you see museums where you're actually encouraged to touch and pick things up? I wanna pet a bear!
"aww good float copper" 😂
Oh my gosh I love that place! Thank you for this, brings back memories
11:10 There is actually an exhibit like that in the Cape Town natural history museum in South Africa.
I've been there twice and I definitely recommend it.👌
Welcome to our city. Hope you have been enjoying your stay.
Grew up in Pittsburgh with an obsession with dinosaurs. I would go there once a week loved the video brought back many memories ty
i really love ur videos because i’m a nerd for museums and it’s so cool u get to travel around the county
I’ve been watching your videos all day & I’m in love with your channel !! Thank you for amazing content !
Love your videos. I enjoy it also when you and Adam the woo are together.
Love that you can touch the taxidermy, what an amazing place
Hi Jacob awesome vlog on the Carnegie museum of natural history👍🏻😺
I was going to suggest you go to this place but, I guess you already went there. I used to go there with my brother and sister and, on field trips. I used to love going there, it's so interactive. It's changed a lot since I was there but, I guess everything does.
I went to the Carnegie science museum 2 times. I have never gotten to go see the history museum yet! Hope to get there soon.
Now that is a cool place, mind blown over dinosaurs bones being brown 🤪 love the commentary so funny! Thanks for my daily laugh and great entertainment
17:36 Fennec Fox FTW. They’re truly amazing animals. The world’s smallest species of Fox, it lives in the Sahara Desert. It has Fur on the bottom of its paws too keep from burning its feet on the hot sand, they can run at almost 30 miles per hour, their ears help them find pretty and regulate their body temperature and they Scream like Banshies.
A lot of people keep them as Exotic pets and There’s a few TH-cam channels that feature them.... I bring this up because they’re my Favorite animal and more people need to know about them and how amazing they are.
So many memories...I practically grew up at this museum. I remember the old Dinosaur Hall, with the T. rex in an upright pose...there was a little room with a video screen that played different clips about dinosaurs from pop culture, including the one from Fantasia. Haven't been there since before COVID...hope things clear up so I can visit again. []
The National Aviary in Pittsburgh another must see. The Bayernhof Museum too. People all over have interesting things to see wherever they live but never get around to seeing them.
I love that you went to the Carnegie museum! Next time you come to Pittsburgh, check out Randyland on the North Side
Ok that snake head sent chills down my spine 😂
Walks into gift shop, “I’ll take 1 fossilised tyrannosaurus rex please”.
Pittsburgh is so beautiful at night and might just be my favorite city in the US or I'm just saying that cause I live there
Just cause you live there trust LOL
Thank you CarpetJac !-_•
awesome memories &
Kennywood brought back so many good time😌
Great vlog and quite interesting. Keep up the good stuff coming.
Those parents should have taken their screaming child outside. IDGAF if its what kids do, children need to understand screaming in such a situation is unacceptable.
LOL I def would have said something or someone should of ... (even if not jacob bc hes filming) I hate it when parents let kids scream the place down its not a frigging playground !
Heckuva Pittsburgh trip. Great 👍
That T-rex is really cool! I hope you got to go to the McKinley Presidential Museum and Monument while you were in Stark County/Canton/Alliance a few weeks ago! It's been at least a decade or more since I got to go in with the kids, and I'd love to see what new things they have there through your eyes. :)
Pittsburgh! Yes! That is where I go all the time, finally I can see the Dino’s from my home now!
Dippy is also a very famous diplodocus skeleton that is currently touring UK museums
If your still in Pittsburgh you should go see randyland a guy named Randy who grew up in Pittsburgh notice his neighborhood going down hill and decided to paint all the building like candyland it's a magical place
You're
This was fun until the display organized by cause of death... death at Sea World (penguin)... death by abusive, ignorant kids (grackle)... my heart just broke in half.
Such a beautiful Museum. Nice to see.
Your commentary is better than a "real" tour guide.
Love the museum, Jacob. Really cool.
another of my favorite hometown museums.
Love the commentary in this one 😂😂😂
Since you're in Pennsylvania. You should go check out Knoebels Grove over in Elysburg Pennsylvania. They have a really good old timey haunted house.
I live here in Pittsburgh you should see the Fort Pitt museum if you come back. I’ve been to this museum once or twice but it was amazing
Very cool museum. I always enjoy your videos
The museum looks cool
I know I'm not the only one who has these places on their bucket list
you need to go here...it is VERY much worth a trip ..great museum and has the art museum and library connected to it (the art museum admission is included and the library is free)
@@vickiechandler3112 I'm totally going!
Great video Jacob Thank You
The dinosaurs room is o d of my favorite places to go.
Really ultra nice museum!
wow love it and great video as always congrats on ya many subscribers ya fab :D
I live up around Pittsburgh but I haven’t been inside for over a decade. I’d love to go again
At the 2:00 mark: that is an Ivory-billed Woodpecker. It’s native to the SE USA, and has been extinct for nearly a century.
Jacob,another great video.🦕
"Half skeleton, and half......horse monster" I cracked up at that haha
What a wonderful museum!!
Awesome day Jacob
You should go to the Billy the Kid museum in Fort Sumner New Mexico
THAT woodpecker you breezed by is the now-extinct ivory billed woodpecker.
Go to Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
awesome place! probably would've been a little more enjoyable without the screaming child lol
Funus Luctus hey, child’s gonna scream
@@bonniedavidson6376 then bring them outside? idk why everyone else needs to be subjected to it. my mom did that for me when i was a kid!
Tweety “i didn’t do it... YOU GOT TO BELIEVE ME! It was the cat! The cat!”
There is a major blind school a few blocks away. Theses displays were not here in the 90s. The taxidermy that can be touched may have come from the third floor of the Blind School in Philadelphia. Just a guess. They were sort of stored away and that school may have closed because it was not wheelchair accessible. Again just a guess.
13:36 the bees in minecraft
What did Jacob call the fennec fox?
dude i work here lol you must have visited on a day i had off :/ i would’ve asked for a pic!
