Just been reading his book about this incident This “car” was so badly designed, that has literally caught fire in every test And has fallen apart sooo many times, it’s regarded as a total death trap.
People capable of making the car do 0- 60 in sub 2.5secs know exactly what their doing . This car was purposely killed off , our overlords dont want light weight efficient vehicles , they want you buying a ton and half of tarted up pig iron thats ready for the scrap yard in a decade or less where they make an absolute fortune off the +£2000 worth of steel they kindly give you £100 scrap value for 🤣.
@Nbomber All of you guys are just lame. They need to normalize having high performance cars like this all over the place. My dad has owned a fair share of high performance cars and they're extremely fun y'all need to loosen up
@@starlord7636 It creates more power per ton than a bugatti veyron but is incredibly light, so on a straight or fast corner it has plenty of downforce, but when you go slow any power spins the wheels, and in the wet even in a straight line it spins its rear wheels up to 4th gear. Also the floor fell out of it when Top Gear tested one. Fast cars are cool but this one is actually just dangerous.
He turned up in one and they asked him to take it off, as they wanted to portray the image of it being a road car. He insisted on wearing his helmet though Good job, otherwise his would have also been badly burned
I remember this car was also tested by Mr. Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear, Mr. Clarkson explained that the Caparo T1 wasn't a good product on the start, because when the car was introduced at Goodwood Festival of Speed the throttle system went wrong. And then when Jason Plato 'the bump 'n run racer' tested this car , this car went on fire in the cockpit and burned his hands, neck and part of his face. And when it arrives into the hand of Top Gear's Mr. Clarkson, BBC knew that the test needed safety precautions, and told Jeremy to wear fireproof racing suit , fireproof racing gloves, and full face racing helmet as well as racing shoes - just in case he got worse accident than Plato. Eventually, when he tested it, there's no crash, not even fire. The car was fine, only a bit structural issue - the floor almost disassembling - and fuel mileage problem. He said that this car - even though was a race car for the road, but it isn't what supposed to be a proper civilian road car - has a quick and nasty acceleration, and handles well on fast sweeping bends, but on slow corners and turns - even on roundabouts, the Caparo T1 was undriveable as the car badly snaking out of control because the car lacks of grip - which was caused by the body itself. The body was designed to make the air move around the body very quickly at speed - which is why the car handles badly on slow turns because no air rolling around the body to give downforce, so it has no grip. It gets worse if it runs on cold tires, the reason this car isn't a really proper 'race car for the road'. And speaking about the Mr. Plato's testing, Jason Plato has his hands and neck burnt while testing it on Fifth Gear because , technically, he didn't wear his 'romper suit' ( fireproof racing uniform and gloves) and just wearing his helmet. But, to me, it's a proper curse for him from his god, because he is denying and breaching the sportsmanship as a race driver, by doing PIT maneuver while racing touring cars ( tapping out the other drivers on rear ends of their cars like American police officer trying to apprehend getaway drivers. PIT maneuvers are banned in any form of auto racing, but trading paint still ok ).
For your information. The tyres for my Lotus Elise, being designed specifically for such a light car, were very soft. They could be worn down in a matter of months. That didn't include driving like a tosser wheel spinning everywhere. They have a very soft compound due to not a lot of weight pushing them down onto the road.
@@peterherrington3300 what ahhah clarkson was so good he got fired got offered a deal to advertise with Amazon shit on the bbc and make a great show with many seasons and still is today doing who wants to be a millionaire and Clark sons farm
Check out the westfield xtr4. Drives perfectly fine in that "between" speed you mentioned and it weighs less than the Caparo, but only got 175 hp. Drives perfectly in all corners.
@mustachos1993 According to the Caparo team and designers/engineers, the T1 is capable of setting up to 90mm of height clearance for speed bumps when it's set to Road settings, as opposed to track settings, whatever they are. There are cars that are street legal that can't even go up a speed bump and some of them are from well known brands like Ferrari.
I don't care that car isn't so comfortable. I don't care that car has no audio system or seat adjustment. I don't even care that the car is so extremely flammable. This car is so unbelievable spectacular! I don't want the road car for the race. I want the race car for the road!
It's 235 thousand pounds or about 480 thousand USD. You can't really tell it's on fire, you just see smoke from the tires. The camera doesn't have a view from the back.
@him89 Not to mention that I also included that SUPERCARS like Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc, have as much clearance as 3-4 inches, which is between 7cm to 10cm. So your argument of 'most drives in the city' is invalid due to the fact that most sports cars, or rather, most supercars, have a lower lip than 5 inches... much lower. The Lamborghini Gallardo has about 4.5 inches of clearance.
vithaj92 you are 100% correct. An F1 car looks like it can't turn at slow but if you had a supercar next to it the supercar would be struggling when the F1 has tons of grip. Like you said it is power to weight. With so much power you can easily spin the tires then spin out. The Caparo will smoke anything through any speed turn, it just shines even more on high speeds. If larkson didn't dump his foot in the car would handle fine. The Stig and Plato had no problems, they can drive.
@ArcanineKing going at an angle might work for getting up a steep grade but guess what it's not going to help you get over a speed bump all its going to do is make that nice scraping sound twice as long. And wow an F430 cleared a speed bump amazing, simply amazing.
@ArcanineKing a cassette tape (if you remember those) is 10cm most drives in the city have a lip more than 5 and are sloped so good luck with that whole 90mm thing.
Very true, but there is one more problem. The throttle response is a little too vicious for the road, at least on the earlier models, I don't know if they changed that, but I hope. Greatest racing car for the road ever made nontheless.
Well.. The oil component still isn't fixed. I know someone who has drivin it after Plato, and.. The oil thing was still broken so he could only get the car up to 100 mp/h.
nope listen carefully he says that at low speeds there is a bit of understeer to this car. supercar wise is more personal preferance, jeremy likes the f40 better cuz its lighter and much more agile. he later did admit that he liked the f1 a bit.
FIA world record. Were talking about production vehicles smart one. A stock ZZR1400 goes 190-200mph. That costs 10,000. The 260mph one is a pure race bike that is unreliable and a one off that costs probably 200K. And the FIA fastest motorcycle is 350mph. I don't remember what it is.
@him89 I've seen supercars clear a bump before. In fact, it's easy to turn at an angle and go over the speedbump. This was a Ferrari F430, by the way. If you're going on a straight bump, yes, you might get stuck, depending on how tall the bump is.
I do watch F1 racing and I do know for sure that you don't need to go fast to get these cars to handle, what you do need to know though is that you got a lot of power/weight so the tires will spin easily if your not careful with your foot, and Jeremy isnt, I have seen other people driving this car just fine slow and fast. The fact that it is light just makes it handle better,
People may say that this car is shite because it’s kills people, that’s actually not the case for most of the road cars as the T1s that were provided for Top Gear and Fifth Gear were both prototypes, so they were bound to have any sort of mechanical issues at some point, much like every other pre-production car. And some people say that this car doesn’t exactly have good value for money, but for a car that has a power to weight ratio better than most hypercars, a 0-60 time similar to a Veyron and a price lower than a McLaren 650S, this is actually good value for money.
