  • Have you ever wondered where Goliath came from? Or why the story of David and Goliath is in the Bible beyond just being a moral lesson? What if the giants mentioned in Genesis 6, the Nephilim, held deeper, more unsettling truths? Join us as we explore these questions with Douglas Van Dorn, the author of "Giants: Sons of the Gods."
    We'll discuss:
-The origins and significance of giants in the Bible: Why are they mentioned, and what is their importance in biblical history?
-The mysterious Nephilim: What does Genesis 6 reveal about these supernatural beings?
-Goliath and his brothers: Did you know Goliath had siblings, including one with 24 fingers and toes? What is their ancestry, and why does it matter?
-The resurgence of interest among Bible-believing scholars: Why is the ancient view of the Nephilim making a comeback, and what does it mean for our understanding of Scripture?
-The invisible, supernatural storyline: How does understanding the giants and the Nephilim change our perspective on the ministry and work of Jesus Christ?
Douglas Van Dorn (M.Div. Denver Seminary) ‪@GiantStepsPodcast‬ is the author or editor of over a dozen books including Giants: Sons of the Gods; The Unseen Realm Q & A Companion; The Angel of the LORD: A Biblical, Historical, and Theological Study; Christ in the Old Testament: Promised, Patterned, and Present; Conspiracy Theory: A Christian Evaluation of a Taboo Subject; Five Solas of the Reformation; and Waters of Creation: A Biblical Theology of Baptism. I find it hard to believe that this “is the first time hearing of this” for you guys...
I’ve heard so many stories of these things being covered up, real time.
    Our history has been skewed,.
It may not matter, in light of eternity, but it does help to peel back layers of mind-numbing programming that keeps us locked in the matrix paradigm, where the shadows lie between Christ and His imitator.
If we continue in the WORD, then we will know the Truth that makes us free.

This topic only became clearer to me over the last few years because of the work by Dr. Heiser, The Bible Project and Mr. Van Dorn, but I do have one question. If different nations and regions of the earth are controlled or managed by Spiritual Beings and some or many of them rebelled against God, then why would they fight each other? I'm thinking of Daniel speaking of the Princes of Persia and Grecia or of any nation conquering another. I'm referencing Matthew 12:24 to 29 a kingdom divided against itself.

Interesting discussion between RR and Van Dorn, but it mostly reaffirmed my concerns over Heiser and others who (IMO) go too far in trying to see what God has not revealed. The fact that a detailed knowledge of extra-biblical Jewish traditions on occult mysticism are used to get some of these views, often relying on just one or a few difficult verses for textual support, suggest that maybe we were not intended to know quite as much as we might be tempted to find. The pushback which RR barely offered, is why we should assume literality in demonic descriptors when it appears Scripture does not intend exact literality in much other language describing both the spirit realm specifically, and all life beyond this life generally. In other words, these images may indeed be simplified figures designed by God for our benefit as earth-bound creatures, and not intended as a goblin encyclopedia.

I think the "again afterward" is quite possibly reflected at Sodom and Gomorrah. Peter and Jude both seem to pair these events -- the references to Enoch/angels locked in chains of darkness, and Sodom and Gomorrah. And, notably, Peter describes the residents of Sodom as going after *strange* flesh. "Hetero" flesh.

Nephilim seed making it through the flood does not mean God

      ' remnants ' .
While the entire world was taken over by the evil seed and the flood stopped it cold, God kept a small remnant alive to use for the purposes of occupying the promised land and testing, judging and punishing of Israel.
No, God did not ' fail '.

@@michaelszczys8316 I'm unsure why some people MUST have post-flood Nephilim, especially at the cost of discrediting themselves and God.
"Nephilim seed making it through the flood" contradicts the Bible five times (Genesis 7:7, 23; Hebrews 11:7; 1 Peter 3:20; and 2 Peter 2:5) does that matter to you?
"He likes to keep" of his loyal servants.
Now, how could it possibly be that "the flood stopped it cold" when you're the one who told an un-biblical story about "Nephilim seed making it through the flood" and actually continued that very sentence with "God kept a small remnant" so no, didn't stop it cold at all: kept it going and the flood was much of a waste.
There's literally zero reliable indication of "occupying the promised land and testing, judging and punishing of Israel" whence are you getting these tall-tales?
Indeed, "No, God did not ' fail '" but the god in your story did.

    • @michaelszczys8316

@@user-oq9hn7qk4j Nephilim DNA, the seed of the evil Nephilim offspring of the Genesis 6 angels and women, being carried by one or even all of the wives does NOT contradict any of those verses in the Bible.
They state over and over how no other living people except for Noah and his family made it through the waters of the flood alive, which is quite true.
No other living humans or part human people were still alive on planet earth except for the eight human survivors on the ark.
The Nephilim seed had pretty much infiltrated the entire human population except for Noah and his children and it was inevitable that before much longer it would have been impossible for there to be any people with clean enough bloodline for the Messiah to be born.
Where I stated that the flood
' stopped it cold ' I did not mean it stopped the Nephilim line cold but rather it stopped the ' inevitability ' of it completely taking over.
The flood changed the situation from
99.9999% people with hybrid genetic contamination and 0.0001% genetically pure people, to something like 62.5% of genetically pure people versus 37.5% of people with questionable genetic purity.
You say it's contradictory to the Bible for there to be Nephilim giants after the flood but I find it fits quite well with scripture and it would also be a lot more contradictory to NOT have them.
The Bible would have to be wrong in many places or the Israelites would have to be horribly afraid of groups of people that were only a few inches taller and bigger than they.
In the story of David and Goliath the Israeli army would have been terrified to go to combat with someone not much bigger than Hulk Hogan or Shaquille ONeil or even someone tall yet weak and flimsy as Robert Wadlow.
Sure, there are a lot of feasible explanations to many Bible scenarios that do not need the Nephilim seed or the giants themselves to explain well, but most are best fitting if the ' seed of the serpent ' from Genesis 3:15 is acknowledged the entire way even up to the present.

The guy in the video said that the sons of Israel didn't exist in Deuteronomy 32. Who was it that God delivered out of bondage in Egypt? He delivered the sons and daughters of Israel.
Exodus chapter 1 shows us that Israel was fruitful and multiplied and that the land of Egypt was filled with the sons and daughters of Israel.

@@Strongtower If you go back and read, Deuteronomy 32 it is talking about the nation of Israel, God chose Israel and made them the apple of his eye. Also how He led them out of captivity but also how Israel rebelled against God and how God turned his back to them.
Please read the whole chapter and you can see that this is talking about Israel and what has transpired with them. It does mention when The Most High divided the nations but in mentioning the dividing of the nations the chapter goes on to tell us after dividing the nations He chose Israel out of all the other nations and then continues to speak about the timeline of Israel.

I’m trying not to be frustrated. The use of the word sons of ‘adam’ does not necessarily refer to the individual Adam - THROUGHOUT the Old Testament this is a term used for ‘humankind’ and this early in Genesis it’s a generic term 1:26 for the species as well as the specific term for the man. Cain’s descendants can easily be described as sons of adam - because they literally in both general and specific terms are. Secondly - Luke’s New Testament genealogy - specifically mentions the man Adam as a son of God. The New Testament book of Romans and Luke take on a NATURALISTIC term of sons of God as being human beings. Third point : you’re assuming that Adam and his descendants weren’t ‘supernatural’ . They must have been more so than we are today - having been in the presence of YHWH - with all the spiritual proximity and the fruit of the tree of life. It was actually only Seth’s descendants Enosh - who took on ‘weakness’ perhaps more to the form of where we might be today. LAST POINT : the Sethite view is a better hermeneutic than using the book of Enoch - to interpret Nephilim - ultimately- this is where I become skeptical and nervous of jumping into the watchers. Jesus seems to not have been obsessed with giants - instead - he exposed demons. When scholars become influenced by a Marvel and science fiction distraction- I get nervous about their need to bring in the book of Enoch. Jesus was ‘adamant’ 😉 in being known as the ‘Son of Man’. And boy oh boy - was He Not just THE most supernatural that we have seen in human flesh. 🌸 love the program by the way 👏🏼

Angels are spirit beings. They are composed of a different substance not flesh and blood. They do not have DNA necessary to pass on to a woman to make her pregnant. The only way an angel could cause a flesh and blood woman to become pregnant would be to possess a man and use his body to impregnate the woman. Nowhere in scripture does it say that God gave angels the ability to procreate. Giants could be the result of selective breeding just like we have selectively bread, dogs that vary in size from a Chihuahua to a great Dane. Fallen angels possessing humans could accomplish a similar result.

This giant theory is not biblical. Sons of God is used several times in Scripture. In Matthew 5 Jesus calls the peace makers sons of God. "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you that you may be sons of your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:44-45 And Jesus said that the angels are not like mankind, that they do not marry or have sex. So why don't people believe what Jesus said? Why is the man so anxious to call sons of God angelic? Remember the Israelites were told by the spies that the people in Canaan were giants? Stop trying to make the Word of God like a comic book.

I used to think the sons of God were angels, but I agree with you, they are not. I believe they are actually talking about a genetically perfect human (like Adam). One of the genealogies in the gospels calls Adam, a son of God and in Hebrews, the author talks about God not calling angels his son. In Genesis, it also talks about Seth looking different to Cain, so I take that to mean Cain was a son of God too.

@@billyjacc why then is the flood judgement pronounced on men if it was angels doing the sinning?
