The only knuckleboom I ever played with was an old Barko 250 my granddaddy had. It had separate levers for everything, but was still push and pull to reach out or bring in. Later on I ran backhoes and excavators and got use to push and push, pull and pull. I bet its hard to go from excavator controls to modern knuckleboom controls.
Hi: Nice information. I noticed that all your hard wood trees have no leaves and it looks cold. Here in centeral Virginia Mose of the tree have not changed colors and the day time temperture is ni the midle 60's. I am enjoying your blogs and you do a great job.
I know all about different patterns on joysticks I couldn't run that chipper either like that. For backhoe loader I'm used to JCB pattern joysticks. I sold my machine 16 years ago when I moved to Canada, and hadn't run one since. One of my customers wanted me to fix his Hitachi track hoe. I got out there and he said run it warm up the hyds and find the problem as he was busy, 2 functions switch sticks on that machine. I figured it out and ran it for about 3 minutes. The JCB pattern came right back in my head, and I couldn't get rid of it and had to quit trying. I just picked up another JCB for the farm got it home and went right back to digging like I had never been away. I was looking at a Case 580 machine before the JCB was available. That was just going to be a nightmare to as it didn't have joysticks and I'm used to the extender hoe being on foot pedals not the swing. It really surprised me that pattern coming back like that, and proves the saying about once you learn to ride a bike you never forget is right. Thanks for the video, see ya next time.
OOO LAWS John you got that rite lol total day N night! from a excavator lol but hey your a master of your world and some of us are masters of other! things! lol but hey it takes all of us to make this world go round! lol dam fine description vid pard!!
And I thought the first time I ran an excavator was busy? That worse than watching a long time Cat excavator operator told to run a John Deere with a switch setting the controls up as a JD and won't switch to Cat controls happened on a nod three years ago in Rye, New Hampshire doing new water mains. I thought he was gonna wreck my ten wheeler and the machine took him near three hours to finally settle down company brought in a 345D overnight to satisfy the op. Is the senior operator in the company next morning he told my while warming up the equipment he threatened to quit if they didn't either fix the Derre or get a Cat there. Production increased by 40% the next day. Chippers are rather simple machines when you had to weld on it watching you disconnect all the computer cables I was asking myself why? Now I fully understand though I'll bet there are times you wish your machine didn't have a flail. Thank You Sir for the extended explanation of it's operation. Regarding your outdoor wood burner at home instead of wasting all the comes off the flail side discharge chain load it into a 1 ton dump and I'll bet you it will still burn fine shoveling is a little bit easier the picking up heavy logs. Just a suggestion and feel free to round file it.
Excellent video of the controls . It would not be all that hard to convert a Log Loader to Button control for the swing to get rid on the floor peddles. Sunday I spent 6 hours on a backhoe pretending to be That Chipper Guy ;)
+Big Country This flail chipper has drums of chain on it that clean the bark and small limbs off so the Chipper clean. Whole tree chips have bark and limbs and leaves in them. I hope this helps. Thanks so much for Watching!!
Blah blah blah talkin' to the camera....LOL....I wondered if someone would see you and chime in with a comment....LOL. Other than getting in/out I'd have no problem operating that chipper because I'm used to hand controls. I'm a paraplegic and use hand controls in my truck to drive. Thanks for the explanation of the controls.
most log loaders around here are close to that all 7 of our loader are exactly the same but watching u explain urs I would look like a baby deer learning how to walk stay safe chip logs
It's amazing how in tune you become with the machine after running it for so long, you just hear and feel things if they're not right. Great video!!
+Bill Hall Thanks so much Bill!

John, is the vibration and juddering in the cab caused by the flails or the chipper disc ?
Really nice vid as usual.
+Lord Muck It's from the cab. I'll make a video sometime showing just what is happening and maybe how to fix it.

good vid, I'd definitely be lost with those controls, they differ from an excavator...😬
+Scott Megee Well Scott I couldn't be of any help on an excavator!! Haha Thanks for Watching!
How does the morbark chipper do compared to a peerless chipper? Just curious, we run a peerless and we're getting pretty close to needing a new one.
I mean Peterson
+Andrew Crosby I have never ran a Peterson nor have I seen a Peterson flail. So I can't really compare the two.
Thanks for Watching Andrew!
It all makes more sense now
+JohnDeere3020Boy Thank you for Watching!!

What's the difference between a regular whole tree chipper and a flail chipper
+Big Country This flail chipper has drums of chain on it that clean the bark and small limbs off so the Chipper clean. Whole tree chips have bark and limbs and leaves in them. I hope this helps. Thanks so much for Watching!!
