Good to see a real wedding. Most portfolios with these ultimate dream shots are styled shootings and never the real thing. This is what most weddings look like.
Those "styled shoots" are the biggest CRAP ever. Putting models into a wedding dress (instead of normal stressed, camera-unfamiliar wedding couple), bring them to the perfect spot at the perfect time and with the perfect light...God, this is so dumb and customer fooling. There are also styled shoots with fake locations, fake flowers, fake bands. Or they show pictures made on workshops. Come on! What is wrong with the people?!
I have no particular interest in becoming a wedding photographer but I just watched all 23 minutes of your video. Super interesting to get the perspective on what your thought process is during different situations
Step out do one for someone that has a low budget or a friends and don't charge them but let them know it is your first and their expectations are not going to be as high. Keep it simple and get the itinerary so you will know whats next. That is what I did but I still get nervous thinking about would could go wrong.
I can't believe I watched all 23:25 minutes/secs of this. Most tutorials are boring 2 minutes in, but you literally kept my attention. Beautiful work. I love the simplicity. Amazing.
I watched your entire video and i was truly amazed how simplicity nailed the job. As a beginner photographer i always think that shooting a wedding you have to be super creative. I just over think and get all apprehensive. I love the story in your photos. Simple, amazing yet effective. Great work
its easy to shoot because its open and his adjustment is A thats why it is easy to shoot but if you go to manual it's more harder coz you have to change ur stetting in different environment
After freelancing for the last two years, I'm shooting my first wedding tomorrow. This video just gave me so much positive reinforcement and I really appreciate you making such an in depth example of the perfect wedding shoot. Thank you so much, and beautiful work!
Man, that was so helpful to just hear your thoughts about the day. It seems like there's always this pressure in the back of our minds as photographers to make things super creative and unique when really the most important thing is just getting the best simple shots and not missing moments. Thanks a ton!
Thanks so much for this! I'm shooting my first wedding tomorrow by myself so this was a super good find! I appreciate that you took the time to detail out your process!
Thank you so much for all the effort you put into walking us through a wedding shoot. I'm a hobbyist who has been asked to shoot two of my family's upcoming weddings this summer. I can say no to friends, acquaintances, and strangers but family suckers me in every time. I've been panicking trying to figure out how to approach these two important days. I don't want them to be disappointed and finding tips and tricks in videos like yours is a tremendous help.
Interesting shooting style, but i don't really get your stance on manual vs aperture priority. I really think aperture priority is the way to go, and if you have a problem like at 19:00 the solution is to raise the Auto-ISO minimum shutter speed. Just set it to the level you don't want to drop below, like 1/200 and you should never have to leave aperture priority
I'm a wedding photographer and I love watching this. There is always so much to learn and I'm eager to improve in so many areas. This helps a lot, thank you!
I've done about 5 weddings now and I'm glad to see my shooting style is similar to yours. Really good BTS video, loved the perspective as if we were there with you. Awesome images! :)
I'm shooting a wedding today after a long break. I am watching a few videos for inspiration ... I really appreciate how you shot this wedding. It's very much the style I used as a wedding photographer. You show a lot of respect for the couple, and the day. Thank you for a great pre-wedding shoot refresher.
Hey Taylor! Wanted to say how helpful and informative this video was man! Most other videos I have seen were just tips and not a full day bts and man was this so encouraging. I have my first wedding coming up and I can’t tell you how much relief this video gave me with helpful tips and tricks to getting those shots on the day of! Your crushing it man and I appreciate the value you give in your videos! Hope life is great!
Can you do a video on how you edited this photos? These photos have a very warm vibe to them and I've been struggling to get the style that you did for the candids of the bride getting ready. Love the video btw.
Mr. Jackson I really, really appreciate how much you shared in this video. I love how you narrated throughout the video sharing what was happening, what you were doing, pitfalls to avoid and even describing why you were doing what you were doing with a Birdseye view of things. I actually felt like I was there behind your lens shooting. Almost like being in a flight simulator for photography.
Amazing thank you for this. A friend of mine has asked me to be her wedding photographer and I’ve never shot a wedding before so a little bit nervous. Haha. Watching this has given me a little confidence boost and made me relax a little more.
This is probably one of the best styles of BTS wedding video I have ever watched, and I've watched hundreds. Absolutely love how you did this so unintrusively on the event you were working. Will definitely be checking out more of your videos!!
Great to see..I always over complicate things. seeing this made me realize I create stress unneccessarily..although most of my first dances are in the dark. My worst bit is groups and you breezed through it..love it.
"it's getting cloudy, spoiler alert - because I was there" "As long as they are having a good time in good light" Why exactly am I laughing at that so much? Great video, I love these kind of your videos and could watch it all the day. Thanks
Wedding Film School thanks! We should do a thing together. Want to drop me an email at taylor@taylorjacksonphoto.com if you’re interested? We can figure out what it actually looks like from there
Just asked to shoot my first wedding, this video made it seem so simple and easy and just gave me peace of mind. It's obviously not easy but this was great to hear your whole thought process throughout the day. New subscriber!
Awesome shots here man.... I've started Wedding photography this year! Bought a 24-70 and 70-200 to cover the range.... Do you shoot in the shade when the sun's out? Found it really difficult to get group shots when everyone was fully exposed!! Whoops.. I'm learning.. Great idea to have us mounted on the camera! Thank you! x
Shoot groups in shade, preferably open shade that faces a bright area. Or shoot with the group backlit and a slight touch of fill flash if needed. Shoot in sun only if it's very soft light.
Damn you're Good. The more I watch you the better photographer I become. I love how you are become part of the wedding without annoying the guest. Master at Candid shots I love it 👏
Do you walk backwards while the couple/group are walking forwards focusing on them wide open (or close to) easier or is it so they're the same size in each photo?
Perhaps you were just talking to fill up time, or simply mispoke. But saying that you should shoot manual instead of aperture priority "like a real professional" is only harming your cause as a legitimate TH-camr. Hopefully, newbies who look to you for advice will advice will ignore that piece. Shooting in aperture priority could be one of the most professional ways to shoot an event. It's actually the noobs, who may feel they have something to prove, who shoot full manual all of the time, while at the same time sacrificing moments. Aperture priority is the most effective way professionals, who know what they are doing, shoot fast paced events - like weddings. If you don't, you're simply doing your clients a disservice because of misinformation, or an ego that needs to be justified. It's entertaining listening and watching TH-cam content while doing other things. But when I over heard this, I had to say something. Shooting manual is no more professional than shooting aperture priority when the circumstances require fast shooting. I can create much more dramatic and artistic images using aperture priority than manual in a wedding. Learning how to meter, and using the meter settings to further those artistic endeavors is much more beneficial to professional photographers. I hope you address that statement to your noobs who watch your channel, so they can become more professional and better at their craft. :)
I've said it in other videos, but shooting manual will save you hundreds of hours in post production over the year. Processing time for a full wedding between culling and editing is somewhere around 2 hours.
how method do you use in AP mode for exposure metering? matrix? single point? would love to hear your thoughts on this? I typically use back button focus - so trying to marry this with the use of AP for exposure.
This is fantastic and great photos. I get so disheartened seeing some of the "wedding photographers" these days who charge a fortune for some really rough photos. These are great. After getting some rough ones from my own wedding before I got into photography, I've really wanted to help others get better photos and learn myself. It's not easy by any means but it's so good to understand your perspective.
This was kind of painful to watch. Pretty terrible composition for most of them, heads cut off, feet cut off, rule of thirds off in a non intentional way that could have EASILY been remedied... ick. You clearly have great marketing skills, decent lighting skills in a challenging environment, but the composition... yikes. And really not excusable - that's one of the first basic things to learn about photography!!
Jesus who set the laws to be follow? I love his photos. And he is really not that crazy on not following rules, I guess you will break your brain if you see what some of the Asian photographers do
If you're gonna make a comment like this - please add a link to your own awesome wedding pictures. So we can all enjoy your perfectly composed well lit beautiful shots that are full of life and laughter. Because right now we might make the mistake of judging you to be a person who has no clue what they're talking about, trying to feel good about themselves by trying to make others feel bad. And if you do know what you're talking about, please note that capturing a beautiful moment in a beautiful photo is much more important than following the rules of composition. At least in my book. And probably also in the book of people who pay this photographer a lot of money to get candid shots of how their day was, magic and all.
Absolutely loved this BTS video and your mostly candid style of shooting. I’m mainly an event photographer, and if I were to shoot weddings, this would be my approach. Thanks so much for sharing your great wisdom experience and tips!
This might sound silly, but since you don't like the feel of the shutter button in portrait orientation, have you tried rotating your camera counter clockwise instead? I find it's more stable and comfortable than rotating clockwise. Your left hand stays mostly in place (your right hand doesn't get in its way), and now instead of torquing your wrist to be able to press the shutter button, your wrist just wraps overtop of the camera. As an added benefit, the camera body is off to the side of your face so your nose doesn't get squished anymore.
It's good to know that even a seasoned wedding photographer such as yourself can forget to change back from A to M when moving to a different location/room. I always shoot in manual for everything these days, even weddings, as it saves me from forgetting to switch back. My biggest "forget" is leaving the VR on when I'm mouthing the camera on a tripod for my nature photography.
Sigma 30 f1.4 on a Sony A6300=Awesomeness. It's my go to lens and most used across all my photography disciplines. I like working close so I can speak softly which really enhances certain moods I want to create especially the couples shots. Match that with a 135mm like he does and BAM!! If working alone, your bridesmaid and groomsmen should become your best friend so they can help with rounding everyone up ON TIME. I invite them to the pre-shoot meetings. Organization is KEY to keep things smooth, fun and non stressful. I normally arrange shots during the golden hour for obvious reasons. Sigma and it's warm tones on that lens is drop dead gorgeous. Rule number one, make it fun and fall in love with candid photography as it really is 85% of the game.
My first wedding post covid tomorrow and your videos have just cleared my mind. Thank you so much dude! You have the freedom of my studio if you're ever in Manchester UK 🙏
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto Assistant dropped and smashed my Z7 at the exact moment the bride walked in... Thought I'd blacked out for 30 seconds but it turned out ok in the end 👍
Thank you for the photography perspective! I’m pursuing Videography, so I have a lot to learn on the photo side, and I wanted to see what the Photographers next to me are going through. Tough work!
I would like to see the comparison between two different photos, one which is straight out of the camera and one which is edited after. I just wanted to see and understand, how emotions are amplified by focusing on smaller elements during the wedding. Great job on making us understand what exactly is a photographer's perspective during the wedding.
I watched this because my first wedding shoot is in September and I’m nervous so I wanted to get an idea so thank you much respect you are an amazing photographer.
Really awesom mahn, this video is worth sharing. You have simplified the complexity of wedding shoots. This will give confidence to other people to step into wedding photography for sure. Keep uploading more content please.
Dude, your videos are so amazing it’s not even funny. Solid mix of funny, serious, and informative. Keep up the good work, you’ve made a patreon subscriber of me after this vie.
Great video Taylor! It was cool to see the GoPro view and all of your thoughts on each situation you got yourself in. I recently started making wedding photography tips on my channel and I want to add some more behind the scenes stuff like this. Its a really nice touch.
I'm actually shooting my second wedding today. The first one was video because I had a friend that did the photos but he suck and took almost a year to get the lady her photos on a CD so I no longer work with him. So now today I'm doing the video and photos using a gh4 ,gh5 and a Panasonic 4k 1000 camcorder. After this video you gave me the confidence thanks
Really love your attitude and approach. I find it refreshing and honest which is rare on youtube these days. I'm just going through your videos one by 1and all of them have so much educational content that you paid for stuff doesn't even offer. Take this wedding bts for example. You have given so much valuable information and insight to a wedding day, honestly really good stuff. i lokk forward to watching the rest of your stuff anything new. SUBSCRIBED
I love seeing these. What always amazes and somewhat confuses me about the methods of photography on display in these videos is that it's all at super super wide apertures like 1.4 and 1.8. Maybe I'm too caught up on sharp but I find that it is so so easy to get an out of focus shot even at like f 4. Kudos for how great the shots come out.
Awesome video! I’m shooting my 1st wedding for a friend and I’m nervous as hell! After watching this, I’m a bit more confident and ready to shoot. Thanks a lot for the helpful tips!
This is such valuable information, thank you for posting these! I'm preparing to shoot my first wedding in a few months and this is incredible guidance for someone searching for tips.

Andrew Abrigo haha yeah. Another reason I went with Sony mirrorless.
That's the problem with Nikon. Canon has a very nice "silent" mode which is not actually silent, but is very quiet.

Rule number one, make it fun and fall in love with candid photography as it really is 85% of the game.
My first wedding post covid tomorrow and your videos have just cleared my mind. Thank you so much dude!
You have the freedom of my studio if you're ever in Manchester UK 🙏
It’s going to be so weird getting back to it haha. I think Canada is kind of in the same boat as the UK right now. Have fun!
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto Assistant dropped and smashed my Z7 at the exact moment the bride walked in... Thought I'd blacked out for 30 seconds but it turned out ok in the end 👍
You’re amazing! So talented in every area of wedding photography, not just the images!!
This is a fantastic video, so full of practical advice in just 25 minutes. I'm definitely considering your longer courses.
Surprised to not see off camera lighting, still great shots! You make it look easy
Thank you for the photography perspective! I’m pursuing Videography, so I have a lot to learn on the photo side, and I wanted to see what the Photographers next to me are going through. Tough work!
I have my first wedding in two weeks thank you! this just gave me peace of mind.
How was it
@@dirtysocks5267 it went really well. They loved the photos and I had a blast
@@tosifamilygaming7706 nice how much you got paid u don’t have to answer
I would like to see the comparison between two different photos, one which is straight out of the camera and one which is edited after. I just wanted to see and understand, how emotions are amplified by focusing on smaller elements during the wedding.
Great job on making us understand what exactly is a photographer's perspective during the wedding.
The scenery is just amazing. Nice shots too.
I've always been told not to shoot weddings alone, you have changed my mind! Great job, SUBSCRIBED!
Clarence Newby I like having a second so I have someone to talk to haha. But photos can for sure be done by one person at an event like this
I watched this because my first wedding shoot is in September and I’m nervous so I wanted to get an idea so thank you much respect you are an amazing photographer.
Really awesom mahn, this video is worth sharing. You have simplified the complexity of wedding shoots. This will give confidence to other people to step into wedding photography for sure. Keep uploading more content please.
Wow man, this was amazing. Thanks so much for making this. It was incredible to watch
Dude, your videos are so amazing it’s not even funny. Solid mix of funny, serious, and informative. Keep up the good work, you’ve made a patreon subscriber of me after this vie.
what a great behind the scenes!
this is so beautiful
really enjoyed watching this
thanks so much for sharing this with us
Great video Taylor! It was cool to see the GoPro view and all of your thoughts on each situation you got yourself in. I recently started making wedding photography tips on my channel and I want to add some more behind the scenes stuff like this. Its a really nice touch.
Great job putting this together man! Especially liked the camera-view perspective.
Exactly what I needed to see. Some behind the scene photos and the breakdown of each shot taken. Great video !
Great video!! Very informative To my surprise, I saw no one with their cellphone out or family members with DSLR.
Awesome, love your laid back attitude. Gorgeous photos. X
This is such an awesome video. Thankyou for your inspiration, and keep getting those awesome gigs!
This is such valuable information, thank you for posting these! I'm preparing to shoot my first wedding in a few months and this is incredible guidance for someone searching for tips.
Your videos and of course your photographs are great! Thank you for sharing.
I love your full day wedding videos! very insightful!
I will be photographing my first wedding this Saturday and am so excited! Enjoyed your video very much! Thank you for sharing!
