    MY BIGGEST RECOMMENDATION for Budapest, go and get a train towards "Horány", it's an island on the Danube River! There's a free beach and some of the most wonderful nature outside of the city! Costs would be less than 3€ for transport - a ferry ride included! :)

    • @PsychoTraveller

      Oooo thank you! I'll check that out!!

      As far as I remember 500ft or something, and the ride only takes 20min +/---!

      Can somebody give more information? It seems that Horany is not the island (Szentendre) but rather a village on it. Is the beach there? and swimming allowed? What else can someone do if there is no car or bike available?

    Great video...I did the budget too....Well worth it is the boat trip to Margaret Island with Legenda Cruises on the Danube, includes a free drink each way , drop off and pick up any boat back...loads of free attractions on the Island,Abbey ruins, statues, mini rescue zoo, beautiful walks the whole trip 4200ft Nobody seems to mention this..it's fabulous Langosh and a beer delicious and cheap about £5 for dinner...so easy to do on a budget and the Great Synagogue has a tour included in the price, a museum attached and an exhibition of life in the wartime ghetto at the moment...highly recommend it....Fabulous city , I'll be going back, thanks for showing .

    Hahahha I had the same reaction when I went to the Terror Museum and found out about the queue. I was there super late like around 3-3:30 or something. I thought I'd spend a few hours there before close but I barely made it through. When I finally got to the basement they were about to close. I did take the audio guide but also only because I got the discount. :') I'd say it was worth it because I just saw people standing around reading the papers in all rooms and at least I could look around while listening.

    Actually.......that is a brilliant idea. Showing the cost of an average day for a traveller. Going to sites etc....and eating, drinking etc....that an average traveller would encounter on their day in that location. I think that is what most people are actually searching the internet for. Not crazy stuff, but just a regular day experience that a first time visitor would be looking for should they visit that location. Really love your video's and your spirit. Looking forward to MANY, MANY more.

    Also for 2000ft you can get a ticket for the National Gallery, in the Buda Castle and I would totally recommend that for the art lovers. Great selection there :) and in hummus bar they have cheaper food options :) also at Napfényes, the vegan restaurant, the daily offer is never over 1500ft. As for transportation you can also get on tram nr 2 and do the whole line following the river, considered one of the best scenic rides in Europe :D

    Well as a happy budapesti (budapestien / budapester / Budapest citizen) I can tell you 30 bucks should really be enough. To western standards everything is little money here. This video doesn't really show you the best picture, as honestly you can do better with less, but I understand that I have the advantage of knowing the city well as I live here

      well if you are a budapesti, you are probably not eating out (or ordering in) 2-3x a day, getting coffee at an expensive chain and checking out 2 tourist attractions (and probably make sure you get a discount if you do). You probably also have a public transport pass (berlet) too (or take a bike or whatnot). As noone does in their home country. Since Ally is living there, I assume she is also not going to tourist attractions a day and eating out as much - or maybe she does. I agree, many Western Europeans/Americans/Canadians/Australians Hungary is 'cheap'....but to be honest, I don't think it really is, even if you compare it to Eastern-European countries. And for Hungarians on an average Hungarian salary it certainly is not. I am Hungarian, but I have moved away in my late teens and living as a nomad since my early/mid-20s for nearly 10 yrs now, but whenever I visited Hungary or spent a few months there I didn't find it cheap by all means - and I did tourist attractions... And yes, even as a tourist/traveler you can do better, you can always cook or find cheaper eats, do more free attractions, walk to places instead of taking public transport, but you can also do much worst, I mean Hummus bar and that pizza or dreher are by far not the expensive options to choose for a meal and drinks. What you forget it that you are a 'budapesti' living a regular life while this is a video for tourists/travelers coming to visit Budapest from a travel blogger who's 'job' is to show you all the tourist stuff not regular life of school/work and eating porkolt and zsiros kenyer at home :) Think about your vacations, you probably do spend way more than you do at home on an average week or locals do where you are vacaying. Even traveling, it may be fancy to say that you can do SE-Asia on 15 or even 10 dollars a day, but many locals live from much less. Even currently in the living in the US I don't spend $30 a day, even with rent, utilities, transport, basics, I may spend $50 a day (max), but if I was vacationing for 2 weeks, you bet it would be more...

    • @GrandNapoleon
      @GrandNapoleon 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Kat yeah I agree with most of what you said, I only wrote that cause at the start of the video she said 30or less. I just didn't want anyone to feel like Budapest is not for them if they find 30bucks a day a little too much, cause I think you can have a good time here even on a tighter budget. Personally I haven't visited as many places as I want (who has? :)), but I perfectly agree that you spend more when you travel... I spend a lot of my time in Budapest's different cafés, I also know the one in the video, and I agree, their coffee is great, but if you're looking for a place with a really nice atmosphere to spend some time there are some amazing places with pretty decent coffee for half the price. Also about food, yeah, sure, if you're eating out those were not horrible options, but generally, you can get a pretty good pizza here for 6bucks or less, and the some goes for other similar meals. I'd be glad to share my experience with anyone who's thinking about coming to Budapest, I've lived here my whole life, but I don't wanna write a novel here.

    • @GrandNapoleon
      @GrandNapoleon 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      David Steere ok, just a few thoughts. You should probably use Airbnb if you're coming for shorter time and try to find one in the outer districts (not really out though, somewhere like 14th 13th as the public transport is really really good and the prices are a lot lower in these districts with plenty of options(seriously, you will only need to take like one bus and you're in the inner city)), and I'd advise the same strategy for longer stays. If you're staying for at least a weak you should really get a weekly ticket or a passport as the tickets would add up(here passports are for a certain time period not for number of uses, I can imagine it's different in other places) about sightseeing, if you wanna spend the least possible, then you should roam around buda, as the 1st and the 5th districts have the nicest architecture. Also, if you're an EU citizen then many places offer a discount, and if you have any eu student card some it can get even cheaper. If you wanna change your currency here, definitely don't do it in the inner city, as they will rip you off (I'm talking 20-30% worse rates). If the weather's nice I really recommend to check out Városliget, Margitsziget(margaret island) and the forests in buda's mountains. You can find some breathtaking views there, public transport will get you there, and it's not really known among tourists. You can obviously visit anything on a guide, though I personally think a few things are overrated(but they probably amazing for tourists) you can also rent a bike if you want, but let me warn you, most of the inner city is not super bike friendly. I think I don't have to mention the Danube, but I think you probably shouldn't take a cruise to Visegrád, I just don't think it's something worth your time really. On summer weekends one of the bridges is closed from traffic, so you can have a nice picnic there, or do yoga, or whatever, the sunset is breathtaking from the danube's pest side, you should definitely watch it at least once. Nothing else really comes to mind right now, but if there's anything you have a question about, I'm glad to answer to my best knowledge

    St Stephen's Basilica was lovely. If I recall correctly, the 200HUF is not compulsory. Anyhow, I lit a couple of candles while there to commemorate the loved ones we lost 💜
    Hummus bar was the only restaurant we went to twice - all other restaurants only once - because the food was good and very reasonably priced. I swear we came out of there feeling full and could carry on until much later than our normal supper time.
    As for the age, I made a mistake in my elder daughter's age a number of years ago. I said she was younger than 4 when In fact she was 4 at the time. Oh well, she got into an attraction for free instead of having to pay 😂

    Hey , about your video a couple years ago when you compared flights on 3 websites , i figured that the prices you got were impossible to get on a return ticket for example : London to Bangkok on no site is 255 pounds return , were you searching for one way fares??

    I loved this video it really helps. Can u please also budget for accomodation, because I feel like that can be a big expense. I know it depends on what type of accommodation you choose, but can u estimate them for whatever city u go to. So it gives us more of an idea of how much we will be spending :)

    The Bazilika is faaar down the list of favourite places to see in Budapest. For the view, go to the Buda hills. For architecture, Andrássy avenue, Opera, Heroe's square, Városliget are all free and very typical. For lunch, you should go to one of those places where the locals eat (Fözelékfaló is vegetarian friendly). There are great museums that are free, and students get 50% discount on almost everything, especially public transport. You could have done MUCH better and cheaper with a bit more research. Also, getting a beer at a no-name bar is almost as cheap as buying a can and drinking it alone at home (and how boring is that!)

      When you go into the Basilica Don't miss the First Hungarian Cristian king's St Sephan's Right hand (1000 AD) preserved at the back of the main altar. It is the holiest and most iconic thing for the Hungarians, together with the holy crown, which is kept in the parliament house

    It would be really helpful to see videos, where you show how much you actually spend a day not being on a tight or specific budget, because you really never know how your day will be like and what will you want to do. In fact 30 dollars a day for Europe is not enough, and there may be attractions that costs around 30 dollars for each but it is definitely worth seeing. Just a couple of weeks ago I returned from Vienna, Austria, and there 30 dollars is enough is you will just sit in hostel and buy food from supermarket. For example, Zoo in Vienna is around 25 Eur, so almost 30 dollars, and in average museums are 15 Eur, so 2 museums + 2 meals (10 Eur for each I would say is really good price) + 1 coffee (3-4 Eur) and you hit 53 Eur or 61.50 Dollars a day

      +Kristina M absolutely! That's why I want to do these videos in lots of different cities in Europe. I don't claim this is a budget for every city ☺
