There was a little complaint with my last driveway repair video. I believe I have fixed it.
I had to cut out a lot to try and keep this short, but I think you can get the general point.
In the first video, I talked a lot about my new tractor and what my troubles were and how I fixed them, but I never showed how I used the tractor and the implements/attachments to fix the 600 feet worth of driveway.
So, in turn, this video has exactly no talking. Instead I show you the Kubota Tractor and King Kutter Box Blade in action, ripping, tearing, leveling and ditch digging. Action. Pure Action.
Here is basically what I did:
Lowered the ripping tines all the way and tightened the top link all the way so that, when lowered, the front end (the tines) of the box blade ripped into the dirt and rocks without gathering any material in the box.
I made a few passes like that so that the surface was well broken.
Then I raised the tines all the way and slightly loosened the top link so that, when lowered, the box blade would hit the surface but the tines would not.
I then used this setup to scrape off high points of the driveway and fill in the low points. I made several passes at two different heights (On my tractor, in this case, a 1 and then a 2).
Then I adjusted a side link so that the bucket was tilted as much as I could make it and dropped the tine on that low side all the way down for some ripping power. I then scraped the lower edge into the dirt where I wanted water to runoff. It is my hope that these little ditches will help slow down future erosion of the road.
To make them, I put the implement height at a 0 and drive along the edge of the road. I then repeated the process 3-4 times, getting slightly deeper each time. I also would move away from the digging side of the tractor about 1 tire width each time.

Good job at pulling the shoulder to the center. Without some crown and elevation above the surrounding terrain, gravel will keep disappearing into the dirt. Plus, harbor freight 18" adjustable wrenches are really great to have with a tractor and brush cutter. I keep one on the tractor.
I liked the video. When you used the pipe wrench to loosen the nut it was like running your fingernails over a blackboard. Thank you for the video. Good job on the driveway.

So many people need this type of work done and they message asking about a york rake. I tell them no i have a box blade and they dont understand or know what that tool is. I tell them dont worry ill do the job and once they see it tearing up the rock for the rough pass and see me smooth it over with a finish pass they are in love.
There is another step. If you intend to stop the erosion, you can either put down rock or plant some really tough grass product. I recommeCloverver. Not only does Cloverover take a beating, but it acts as an animal feed, too. In addition, having deep and broad roots will hold soil in place. If you go with rock, do not use standard stone. The old-timers used pea-sized gravel flows better on mud and, therefore, lasts longer. AlCloverclover needs receiving occasionally because of traffic it is a permanent solution.

Good job and effort. Respectfully, the way to build a decent drive is to throw the dirt from ditches you dig along side the route into the middle and spread, roll and pack it and then cover with gravel or crush and run after it packs down, while leaving the drainage ditches on the sides. When you simply level or lower the route you get a tendancy to create a water route too. By adding some crown to the drive you keep the water running off into the ditches yo have created on each side. I have used a big double disc plow to make the ditches, throwing the dirt up into the center. I lke crush and run for surfacing.
I tried that. Just need more experience I suppose. I'm not so great at it.
I believe I may do that. A crescent wrench, pliers, Phillips and flat screw driver are only tools on my tractor.
The pipe wrench only strips the nut. A crescent wrench is cheap at Harbor Freight !

Get a knipex pliers wrench; fills the roll of both crescent wrench and pliers in one and is a whole lot more enjoyable to use than a crescent wrench. Will cost a bit more up front but well worth it in the end.

I thought about using my subsoiler, but went with this instead. I could get closer to the edge down at the bottom of the driveway.

They do make a fairly reasonable ratchet top link take up tool that would ease your task a bit.

If there is one thing I have learned about setting up grading/ripping and using a box grader, and that is there are many ways to get the job done and none may be the right way. For me, the fastest way may not be the most efficient.

You done good with what gravel you had to work with,but you really need a couple tandem loads of gravel and to figure a side ditch beside your driveway up there at the road to divert the water away from the middle of your drive. I know gravel ain't cheap, but that's what it takes 'cause I need some too LOL

I have a real washout problem along gravel drive in one area.... been trying to solve with rip-rap rocks under gravel... I NEVER considers the side ditch idea to let it go there instead!!!!!!! SWEET! Thank you!

I see this is a older video how do you like the king cutter box blade? I'm looking into getting one to help with our roads on our hunting lease trying to decide whether to go with a king cutter or the tractor supply country line box blade.
I've learned a lot about how to make better use of the implement since this video. I haven't had any problems with it. The blade is still in tact as well as the tines, or whatever you call them. I've had that box full of dirt and rock and my 46HP Kubota could pull it fine and the box itself hasn't "torn up" at all. Since it's the only brand I've owned so far I can't really compare it to anything else and say if a cheaper or more expensive one is any better or worse.
What size and brand of tractor is that? and do youlike it?
It is a Kubota L4600, manual transmission. I love it.

Do you think it will work for resurfacing a lawn? I have several acres of very uneven, bumpy lawn that slows me down badly mowing. I am next to buying a tractor with 3 point and am considering box scraper as attachment.

Well, it will certainly make the ground flat - at first - but it will be very torn up and might settle even more bumpy than what you already have. Honestly, I'd ask the folks at your tractor place, I am just not sure.
I am in the exact same boat as you.. Did you ever find a solution? I am considering a heavy roller, to be applied in the spring..

1st time watching one of your videos. Nice job. I've been debating, " Box Blade or Scraper blade?" They both have their good points. I'm leaning toward the scraper blade. If I had a long driveway to maintain, like you, I would want the box blade for sure. What hp is your tractor? I subscribed and when I get some time I'll check out your past vids.
since 3 pt hitch doesnt push down are the things useless in real hard soils such as the regina clay i have? im talking about the graveled part of our yard and its like concrete literally . clay with rock aggregate . i want something that does as nice a job as these
I disagree about the 3pt hitch not pushing down. If it didn't push down my plow and other attachments would be no good. I think it'd be fine in your place. You'd likely have to at least start off using the teeth, but might be able to take them off and just use the blade of the box once the surface is broken up.

That's gravel, not rock. How will that thing work with rocks that it takes two hands to hold, there are hundreds of them, and they're partially buried?

I used that track in one of my videos too. I got it from vimeo.com/ if i recall. Its one of the options in windows movie maker.
It is hard to find good sounding music to use on youtube without being flagged for copy right. TH-cam also has its own selection of music you can download. Again hard to find something worthy of putting in a video.

KB4GAP, I appreciate the firing, lol. It was the only tool I had that would fit the diameter of that nut. It was an exercise of making due with what you have on hand. My address is on my website if you'd like to buy me a proper wrench. Until then, it worked just fine.
