  • Property pins, property markers, surveyor stakes or survey stakes whatever you call them they are basically the same thing. They mark your property corners. Burns & Taylor legal registry company in Victoria BC 250-386-5336 will search land titles and can find you the original property survey. With this and a GPS one can find the property markers. Amazing there has never been a universal non rusting galvanized steel stake used. I like you channel good info thanks for the link.

I just called a friend to ask how to pull up a stake I found. He told me what it was a told me to leave it alone! I kept hitting it w/ the lawn mower. I will find some way to flag it so I don't hit it and spray grass killer around it, I guess.

I wish I had seen your comment 5 years ago but, if this is still an issue for you or if it's an issue for somebody else, you can flatten a pin down to ground level hammer it down in so that it doesn't affect your mower and surveyors will use metal detectors to find it once they know about where to look. ultimately if you would like you can buy a flat cap that goes over the stake and is attached more or less permanently so when you flatten it down there actually is a metal disc which can be more easily found at the surface and is usually no more than 2 or 3cm in diameter.

How far would a pin be from the street into a property?

The roads are not necessarily in the middle of the road allowance. Some things like power poles are usually not on the lots and will be very close to the edge of the road allowance.

I just realised that you mention this in your video. I don't know why I didn't notice it the first time around. Thanks for explaining though!

It’s just a guard post, mentions lot numbers on either sides or if the pins were set offsets from the property corners
