You may have to take care of girls at some point, and you definitely want them to be cool with asking you to go get emergency supplies. They'll love you for it!
I'm in Nova Scotia Canada and used menstrual cups for the last 13 years of my life with periods. I was pleased to see that Walmart was advertising Diva Cups in this week's flyer. So awesome. I converted to cups as I was drying out from any tampons and hated paying for them and for the waste incurred from usage.
After converting to a cup, I regret how much time I spent as a teen and adult feeling all that shame, secretiveness, and wastefulness buying, using, and disposing of tampons and pads. Yeah, you have to "get in there" with a cup, but that process really helps you learn about and not be so afraid of your own body.
This video should be shown in High Schools! I don't know if you guys take suggestions, but fragrances and endocrine disruptors would be very interesting to explore (together or separately).
Totally appreciate the video as well but for educational purposes I would resort to the videos of mama doctor jones. This is something they should learn about from an expert and there is more that goes into the choice of period product. Cups might not be compatible with all forms of birth control, people might be athletes, people might consider sex during their periods, people might have issues with inserting anything into the vagina, people might have a very heavy flow. Point is, ideally school educates on that even more than this (good) video does.
The first time I used a cup, it was very stressful. Eventually it was fine, but I also prefer reusable pads now. An episode on those and period underwear would be great.
I don’t know if you know about menstrual discs, I’ve also tried a menstrual cup, but a disc was a lot easier for me. It doesn’t have suction so it’s a lot easier to insert and remove
I hated the feeling of a tampon or anything like it because it felt like a wedgie for the vagina. Much prefer pads & period underwear. (Actually I'd prefer to never have periods at all but biology for women is fucking awful and unfair and we have to suck it up 😞)
If you do create a video on all the reusable options, don't forget menstrual discs. Nixit (Canadian company) is the one I use and absolutely love! While I enjoyed my Diva Cup for years, the suction wasn't something I wanted to mess with when I got my IUD. Nixit holds so much more, no suction, and allows for mess-free period sex. So many wins!
Looked it up. Looks interesting. I feel like the rave about cups is too one sided, I rarely see any warnings about menstrual cups and when I tried to use one myself I ended up barely avoiding really hurting myself. It sucked itself stuck on my cervical mucus and was impossible to remove (there was no vacuum, just my extremely swollen cervical mucus). After going two days without being able to remove it I actually squatted in the bathroom, pushed like crazy to get access to the cup, tried to maneuver a mirror and a small nail scissor and cut the cup so that I could remove it. I almost cut my cervical mucus in the process because it was so swollen it was at least dubble its normal size. I probably should have gone to a gynecologist, but I just couldn’t bring myself. When I wrote about this is a FB-group it turned out it had actually happened to several others, but I _never_ see people talk about this. Everyone are just praising the cups so naturally I expected the same in awe-experience. I feel like there should be some warning that this can actually happen. The suction free one looks much more appealing!
Grew up in the late sixties ….when I started my period I was horrified at the limitations I would have to endure while basically wearing a diaper 😢. I found out about tampons from my friends and as a swimmer this was like manna from heaven. However I had to sneak them past my mom a thirties child who was quite frankly a bit of a prude.
Wow! It’a cool to hear your experience. I was a teenager in the early 00’s, so tampons were readily available to me and they were my FAVORITE because I was quite active. Now I’m less active on bleed days but my lifestyle allows for it. It’s amazing how many options we have now! Thanks for tuning in and sharing your experience ♥️Sher
I dont know if this channel is still going but in definitely interested in seeing more about this topic. I am a transguy and havnt bled 10 years thanks to testosterone shots but i still believe in empowering women to love every aspect of their bodies and this is one topic that needs even more exposure. Thank yall for the work you put into your videos, i thoroughly enjoy them ❤
Can we have a video about the credibility of the FDA and all the things that it doesn't cover. I feel like it would be a very illuminating topic for a lot of people.
I would LOVE to see a video on those period underwear that's out now. I've never used a tampon (not a fan of the idea of having something shoved in my body for hours) and always use pads, but I don't know the pros and cons to switching to period underwear since I don't know anyone who uses them.
I switched on a whim 2 years ago. It was a bit gross at first but now that I got the hang of how to properly clean it in a way that doesn't actually take that much effort I can't go back.
I absolutely love period underwear, especially for sleep. I use the Joyja brand. I swear my periods have shortened since making the switch. It's a more expensive investment up front but they last so long!
There are period panties for different types of flows so you can switch depending on your flow. It's really the same as using pads except it's in an underwear form. You have to switch underwear maybe twice or thrice in a day. Pros I think is that you don't have to worry about blood leaking behind since there are period panties that have their protective linings extend at the back to prevent leakage. It's also good to use when you sleep. Cons is that once you change panties, you're literally carrying a bloodied panty with you so might as well put it in a waterproof pouch and wash it once you get home
Yes, PLEASE make a video on reusable pads and period underwear! The whole Thinx lawsuit has my head spinning. I though I finally found a sustainable, SAFE alternative to pads and tampons and it turns out I was wrong? Wtf?
I have never used tampons, because it is just not possible. So I have always used only pads. Once in my life I tried to put a tampon, and it couldn't go and it was unfortunately very hurtful moment. And I think the same goes for menstrual cups. It just doesn't work. Ladies, if you use only pads, you are not alone! ❤️
Have you tried reusable ones. I've been using them for maybe 5+ years and really like them. I just wash them as a small load with warm water, then dry them on low.
I expected that there would be a "dark truth" behind it all, but looks like the only "dark" thing is that a lot of menstrual products are not recyclable, which is bad, but still not without solutions. I also totally support removing the stigma behind menstruation. And I am a guy. I get that intimacy during period may not be to everyone's liking (for various reasons, not only because of blood), but being shy, disgusted or even scared by it - is beyond me. I believe, that us guys can help with that by being understanding and supportive instead of "This is a girl's thing, I do not care".
Totally! Years ago, I was lucky to have a boyfriend who grew up with a hippy-ish mother and 4 sisters. He was so comfy with it and I felt so seen and cared for ♥️ I’d encourage everyone to get comfy with it 🙌🏽 We’ll all be happier and probably healthier too 😊 Thanks for sharing! ♥️Sher
I'd love a more in depth video about period underwear! I recently bought a whole week pack from Awwa (A New Zealand, indigenous owned period underwear company) and they're my favorite way to manage my period so far! I remember trying tampons when I first started my period, but I never liked them much as I'm not very flexible and had trouble getting them in me deep enough to be comfortable and not feel them, pads were just the more accessible option for me. And it's the same reason I never really looked too deeply into menstrual cups. Some 5-ish years ago I made the transition to using reusable pads in an effort to be more sustainable, and I liked them enough, but with only a snap button, they sometimes had trouble staying in place, especially if I was moving around a lot for work or exersize. Just last year I finally made the financial investment to get some period underwear, and honestly they became my favorite underwear even for just general use over night. They're not bulky like pads can be, they're comfortable and I even wear them off my period as I don't have to worry both about being caught off guard about my cycle, or about sweating through my underwear when I go on my walks or have a long day at work (I recently walked a 10k with them on and they were great). They're also great as someone who's disabled, my hips were unaligned for a long time, and unfortunately if I bend over wrong, a bit of pee comes out, but I don't have to worry about my underwear with them. The initial financial investment into period underwear is definitely the thing that put me off from trying them for so long, as they are the more expensive option for sustainable period products, but they are sooooo worth it.
Labor and Delivery Nurse here😊 Vaginal packing is used to treat a patient who’s experiencing more vaginal bleeding than is normal/safe (for vag deliveries, the total blood lost should be 500 mL or less); when the bleeding is the result of lacerations to the vaginal and/or cervix, MDs will apply vaginal packing. That’s the “packs” in “Tampax” 😊 I’m a big menstrual disc user because they’re good for the environment, wallet-friendly, and they DO last about 12 hours of collection, which is how long nursing shifts are
If you're thinking of trying a Menstrual cup but are afraid of the suction try a Menstrual disc instead. They have a few options that are suction free.
Ohh I really liked this episode. I’ve been learning more about the female body, and this was just good timing. Plz do an episode on reusable pads/period underwear, it would be good to have a starting point on eco friendly period products. Thanx ☀️
I switched to reusable pads and a cup about 8 years ago. My main reason was financial but it ended up with a bunch of other benefits. One that I wasn’t expecting was my cramps got a lot less severe. I still get them but they’re very rarely debilitating anymore.
I'm 31 and I've used my cup since I was 20. I just change it to reusable period panties at night, because I feel more comfortable "letting it flow" for a few hours a day. Never looking back.
Thank you for saying this! I fell in love with “letting it flow” a few years ago and can’t believe how much I didn’t wanna deal with it before. This is why reusable pads and period underwear are it for me - at least for now. I’ve got my eyes on Nixit 👀 Thanks for sharing! ♥️Sher
I bought myself some laundry sanitizer and have been using reusable pads and period underwear ever since. They're so much more comfortable for me than the cup
I’d love to see more videos about periods in general. Specifically about period underwear and what materials go into making them. Thanks for this great video about tampons!
Such a good video 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 I live in Germany atm and I am always very confused by the fact that everything has a specific law in Germany or in the EU - even the form of some veggies and fruits😂 But I am very confused that companies can sell tampons in Germany with out telling which material they are made of😮 I have grown up in the early 2000s and the tampons of this time were pure hundred percent plastic😢 And this wasn’t good for my down below health😅 so I am very happy and I was very lucky that I had a very young doctor back then in 2012 recommending me to use a menstruation cup (and they were kind of nerdy stuff back then😅 you couldn’t buy them in a normal shop and you had to order it in the Internet back then) fortunately nowadays there are a lot of options when it comes to menstruation 😊 and I think it’s also a really great thing of that we talk about more about menstruation stigma and period poverty
For me it's reusable pads and menstrual underwear. I tried two types of menstrual cups and no matter how much I tried, the suction wouldn't work and I would always feel uncomfortable. But I do know ppl who love it. I'd rather be a bit bulky
You need to create the suction. Try to rotate the cup after it opens inside, this way the cup fully open and creates a suction to vagina wall. You also need to know where your cervix is so it's not in the way that the cup can't fully open. Give it any try! I love using my cup.
The menstrual cup is like going from walking to a bicycle. Used one menstrual cup for about 14 years, good investment it only cost about €40 . I also had a lot less cramps when I used the cup. When I was working for an NGO in Nepal, the kids would go through the trash to find food or anything they could use, i was happy that they weren't having to dig through my menstrual waste. 👌 With all the news about micro plastics, being in found in newborns; I don't want to be exposing my mucus membranes to more synthetics.
My favorite video of your amazing channel so far.🤩 The topic is so important, new stuff I learned since I e.g. wasn't even considering the material tampons are made of so far. And I love the fact you're presenting in such a relatable way. Always a pleasure listening to you, no matter the topic.
"Apparently you shouldn't be flushing these" about tampons, is an understatement. Nobody should flush ANY solid objects down a toilet other than poop (or chunky puke, I guess?) and toilet paper. Anything else can seriously mess up sewer systems or septic tanks, since they aren't designed to handle them. Sewage treatment plants have chopping/shredding mechanisms designed to break up solid clumps of nasty into a smoother sludge. (It's the biggest reason why TP turns to mush as soon as it's wet.) Those systems often back up or even break and need expensive repairs, when trying to deal with sturdy things like period products. It's a neverending gross headache for the staff working there, because so many people keep flushing things they shouldn't.
As a European I found it interesting to learn about the history if tampons. Here tampons became commonly used much later and you only get applicator free tampons. That also means that the switch to a cup is not as big since you already had to „get in there“. Id also be curious at which point a cup/ reusable pads become more sustainable than a non toxic applicator-free tampon. Like with reusable cups which need to be used x times to be „better“ than single use… Has anybody found data on that?
I’ve been using cups from 22, it’s so convenient omg. It kinda surprises me that someone can be afraid or disgusted of their own body… never even crossed my mind, what I told myself was: just gotta do the thing, since I already got it 😅🤷♀️
Used tampons once will never again, I use pads, reusable pads, and or period underwear, pads & period underwear work best for me since I train jiu jitsu 6 days a week….periods are gross times, not going to pretend it’s not, but it’s just part of life, diva cup even with gloves no thanks….but I hear it works great for some…thx for another informative video…👍🤓🤟🏻
I wish all this information (and products) were available when I was a teenager in the 90s. I've found the perfect combination for myself with menstrual cup + period underwear in my 30s and it has changed how I live my period.
I've experiences the whole range of period products/preventions. Starting in 1983 with bulky pads with the belt, to adhesive pads (with wings!), to various forms of tampons with so many types of applicators, to birth control that skips your period, to pregnancy and nursing, and finally using a menstrual cup the last fours years (wish I had found that one sooner) to finally stopping in 2020. Women today have so many wonderful options.
I vouch for menstrual cups, they're amazing! I legit forget I have one in me they're so comfy, so there's one risk there hahah. Sometimes you need to search for one just right for you but when you have it's a bliss and no more worries. Also packing for trips when you expect your period was never easier, especially since you can safely use it before you get period if you're not sure when it will hit you.
100% agreed!! I had to try 3 cups before I found the right one which at the time felt like a waste of money but that was 3 years ago so I've more than paid them all off not buying tampons all those years. I also agree on packing, when I used tampons I always stressed about how many to pack for trips, or I'd be doing head math trying to figure out if the trip would fall during my week or estimate odds that I would start early ect and they took up so much space. Now I just throw the cup into my suitcase on every trip no matter what time of the month it is just in case because it takes up basically zero space. Couldn't recommend cups more.
@@droid2D2C3P0 Exactly! I was lucky to find perfect cup for me on my 2nd try 🥰 (first one was too soft and was not opening properly). And if anyone is worried about a cup leaking, you can always buy a few reusable cotton or linen liners that you can just wash and you're good to go! I even have mine done from black fabric so I don't have to worry about potential stains 🤣
@@Szczurzyslawa I used period underwear as a backup until I felt confident they wouldn't leak haha so same thought process. Was overall a huge improvement on the overall procesd imo
The exact same thing happened to me with the menstrual cup and I had to get my partner to get it out. 😂 Thank goodness I stuck with it as it has saved me loads of money and it has had a positive affect to the period pain I always used to get. Keep at it! You'll never want to go back to pads once you've got it dialed in
That’s what they say but I’ve actually learned to love the flow🩸😂 I’m open to it, but for now I’m chillin with the reusable pads - although definitely curious to learn more about fabrics and scandals etc. Will definitely be trying a disk after hearing all the comments about it 🙌🏽 Thanks for joining us here and sharing ♥️Sher
I just found menstrual discs which seems like a better alternative to cups since they are smaller and thinner, more like a tampon in size. I had to practice to even use tampons so if a cup opens up when you try to insert it holy shit it hurts. I’m a cis woman but the intense mental discomfort menstruation gives me is unbearable. Thank you birth control pills
I’m on a birth control called “nexplanon” and I had it redone this past march (it’s an implant the doctor inserts into your arm and is good for 3 years) ever since I had it redone I haven’t had a cycle and I’m loving this lol. I know I’m fine and that it’s just the birth control. I do feel moody at times and get some acne but no actual bleeding happens.
Unfortunately, there are several of us who cannot use menstrual pads, discs or cups. My flow is so heavy (and has been since I was 14) that I still soak through an ultra tampon in under two hours. A menstrual cup wouldn't do squat. The tampons are the *only* thing that allow me to leave my home for short periods of time during my period. And before anyone asks, yes, I've had this checked. This is my normal. 8 day, ultra heavy periods. There's nothing wrong with me outside of being cursed. If you are able to use the reusable, more sustainable products, by all means, please do so; but don't pretend like people such as myself don't exist (there's actually a lot of us) as well as women (which I also have this issue) in which menstrual cups and discs don't sit right due to having an unusually positioned uterus. I had the same issue when I had an IUD placed. The position of my cervix led to the IUD getting implanted in the lining of my uterus and it was amazing I didn't get pregnant after that had happened. It's apparently more common than women might be aware of.
Hey! Thanks for sharing this perspective. Every body is different and it’s great to know what people are experiencing. Have you tried a reusable pad designed for heavy flow? Just curious if so, and how that went for you. This reality is all the more reason we should be talking about these things so we can better support each other 🙌🏽 Thanks for joining us here and sharing!! ♥️ Sher
I started using menstrual cups 5 years ago when I moved to Canada, I have literally never looked back!!! I lift weights for sport and these have made the most difference and I have saved so much money.
in my country most of the tampons they sell are applicator free (it took me a while to find applicator ones) and yea it's so much easier to convert to a menstrual cup when you're already familiar
Tampons: Medical device, FDA approved Lawmakers: Luxury item! Extra tax! Seriously though, period cups. Use one, carry a second and it’s a lot easier than only having one.
I just got into reusable pads and underwear in late 2019. It was great having them in 2020 for sure! It took a little bit to get used to seeing/handling my own blood, but it’s not so bad now. I admit I still use disposables, but way less than I used to. Great video!! Oh and I highly recommend the brand Period for underwear. Very budget friendly and no tax! (Only $9 for most pairs!)
Thank you for mentioning menstrual cups! I’ve been using one for over 15 years, and I can’t even imagine the amount of money (and waste!) I’ve saved by using that thing. Also, period pants, FTW!
I never understood all the secrecy about periods. I know it's because of historically negative views on menstruation, and I'm glad I cannot relayed. Also, no way I'd ever use a tampon. I would 100% certainly get toxic shock syndrome. I forget I'm on my period when wearing pads, and only remember when I go to the bathroom anyway. If I used tampons instead, I would forget all together 😅
I'm a menstrual cup user. Love the cup! I feel cleaner than using tampons/pads. I also use period underwear. We as women need to learn and know our bodies, and there is no shame or gross about period.
As somebody who has use a menstrual cup for over a decade now here's my tip. If it seems like it has written up and you can't get ahold of It Don't Panic. Just sit on the toilet and bear down like you're going number 2. Do this a few times and the cup will work its way down. Quite frankly it's essentially the same thing you would do when giving birth just a hell of a lot easier lol. Also if you get a cup that matches the questionnaire for you as and have you had children Etc and it doesn't work don't be afraid to try something different. For example as somebody who has had two children if I go buy recommendations the cups that are recommended to me are always too big. I have a really low cervix. So for me when the backup I have found is the meluna shorty. And I don't need it to be very big because my periods are pretty light. Lastly I know this is much easier said than done don't be afraid to talk about it and to ask questions. It's your body it's part of you and menstration is a normal if not annoying part of life. And if anybody makes you feel ashamed of that back that's a them problem not a you problem
I rarely comment on TH-cam and I might be quite late on the comments timeline since I'm posting this 3 days after the video went live, but... if you are still fearful to try menstrual cups and especially if you have painful periods, try out Daye - they have tampons with an optional coating of CBD that help tremendously with menstrual cramps. They have an amazingly sustainable business model that will absolutely make you love this brand. I use menstrual cup most of the days, but when I have a painful day or two, I always rely on Daye. Hope I helped someone and @Future Proof Health, keep up with these "tabu" topics - love the content!
Hey! Definitely not too late, I try to check up every so often, and regardless - someone might always benefit from us sharing our experiences 😁 Thanks for the tip!! And thanks for joining us here 🙏🏾♥️Sher
Here in Europe though available, tampons are not commonly used - pads are still the way to go. Even when you use the word tampon you usually refer to pads.
I have tried a few menstrual cups but they didn’t met my expectations. All models I have tried were sitting uncomfortably and/or were leaking. This was a bad experience for me. Currently I am managing my period like this: I am on hormonal birth control which reduces my flow a lot. I am using organic tampons (without applicator, of course) and menstrual underwear during daytime, at nighttime I often switch to a menstrual pad because I don’t want to use a tampon for longer than 8 h. It’s a routine that works for me during my period so I am not intrigued to try other methods because it took me so long to find a method for not bleeding in my clothing.
I was hesitant about cups, but I gave it a try - Why didn't I do that years ago?! Still, you might need some adjustment over time, bodies change. Sometimes it can be challenging with rheumatoid arthritis, but for me it's just the most comfortable method for these times.
I have been using The Diva Cup for 15 years, so much less waste and always hated that bulky feeling (since tampons would always soak through, then pad would be full)...still need pads with Diva Cup just in case (though use way fewer) but just got Thinx period underwear this year to use in conjunction with The Diva Cup so hoping to further cut down on pad use. Not everyone is open to them, but I have never looked back!
Hey! Cup users! If it hurts to use a cup you might wanna consider if you have a low cervix, in which case you might prefer a menstrual disc instead! These are similar to cups but will accomodate a low cervix better.
I would totally be down for a vid about the period undies. I've heard some things about there being some toxic chemicals in some and there being issues with that. I didn't look into it much, I just know I got told if I used a certain brand to rethink it (don't know which, I forgot). Also I don't bleed anymore but when a did the cup was a HUGE upgrade.
I’m a big fan of my IUD. No periods or babies! I also found a provider in the US who provides pain management for when it’s time for a new one. This should be standard and it criminal that it is not.
I use a menstrual cup, but also have a pad under it to catch leakage. I love the reusability, long wear time, and sustainability of a cup, but I can't ONLY use it. I wish I could. But because of the way I'm shaped "down there" cups tend to leak a little sometimes, and I don't want my pants or underwear getting stained. I've tried several different sizes and brands of cups over the years, and every one of them had that issue especially when lying down. Lying down I leak 100% of nights where the cup gets more than 1/4 of the way full, which happens the heaviest 2-3 days every period. But despite the inconvenience, I've stuck with silicone cups because they're more comfortable (for me) and sustainable than disposable options. Also with my ADHD I don't always think to check every few hours, so the 12-hour safe wear thing has likely been a literal lifesaver from toxic shock. Even before I discovered cups I only used pads not tampons for that reason.
Honestly same, but instead of using a pad I use think liners, and it really cut down on costs and pads too! Only on my heaviest of days during my sleep will I use a pad (or I would have to change every 4 ish hours due to heavy flow)
Where i live tampons aren't common, most women use pads in their periods. I used to live with 2 sisters and one mother and they never used tampons, the same with my female friends, whenever they talk about it it's always about pads. I believe that it's because of the myth that virgins can't use tampons, so they got used to pad in their teenager years and now they got used to it.
I got my period when I. Was12. And I'm 42 and goddamn it every month I'm. Still angry that they haven't found a cure for periods. It's completely ridiculous that no one is like "hey your crotch is bleeding..... Let's make it stop that's really weird " Yeah it should just be eliminated.
I'm an avid user of reusable menstrual products for about 15 years - which is still very niche in my county. As many have written before me, please try a menstrual disc, my fav is Cora Disc - it's a holy grail of menstrual inventions for me! I always laugh when I see my friends' faces when I explain to them how it works.😂 Also I'd love to see a vid about menstrual underwear (really, pad companies should be ashamed how uncomfortable pads are in comparison) and please make one about panty liners. Only recently I've read that it's ok and advisable NOT to use one after being tied to them for all my teen and adult life. So anything about panty liners in regards to vaginal health would be super interesting to me! 😊
I've never read or seen 50 Shades but isn't the tampon scene him pulling it out with his teeth before sex 💀💀 I can definitely see how that fit when he was a vampire but idk about a regular guy--- Regardless, informative video as always!
Never have I ever read or watched any of the books, much less their predecessor the Twilight saga, and I have no desire to. It's creepy AF, promotes stalker behavior, riddled with misogyny, promotes sexual violence, and it is not at all with something that anyone should be interested in. Not to forget to mention kink does not hold up in court of law as an admissible form of consensual sex.
I've been using menstrual cups for the last 6 years and omg I'm never going back. I've only bought like 9 maybe? In 6 whole years. And they're so much easier and more comfortable.
I want a whole video on period options plz. I hate my period, it’s such a buzz kill 😂 can you tell me how to make it suck less? I want the laziest options plz
I never used a tampon... but I do hate the pads and the cotton sticking down there. I also used a bunch of tissue once when I had my first shocking menstrual experience outside and in school and during tweens' first aid training (ironically, there were no period products for "first aid" in circumstances where we literally bleed and had no products with us). Thankfully, I was wearing tight thick dark pants, it was the first time I realized that I should wear those kinds of pants, especially on my periods. Never talked about this before (this being taboo didn't help this introverted ass)... and I heard that when women go through menopause, they age faster... Anyway, since I never talked about this, I also never experienced giving out period products like what they do in the movies. At times, I rely on my mom's stock of period products we're the only ones who buy each other period products in the household. When she goes gets to her menopause, then I would be alone... but I accepted that already. Ps. I'm hesitant about using a diva cup (I have more questions in mind). But a period disc is interesting.
I can definitely relate to emergency period situations! And picking the right pants - this is EVERYTHING. Appreciate you joining us here and sharing your story ♥️Sher
I grew up with women and doctors so that may be why I care less on this.... But why are men scared/disgusted with this? Its completly natural. And as long as you can tell me what one you need me to get, i will get it. No one cares at the stores. And its just being nice. And should be freely available for anyone who gets a period.
I don't know what I was doing wrong but I threw away my menstrual cup. It was uncomfortable, it was hard to put it in. It was also hard to get it out without a mess, and after a few periods it got a bit softer and I was having leaks. I also have doubts when it comes to safety. Is it really ok, to keep blood in a warm environment for 8 hours? And you can only change it at home because of all the mess and cleaning. It is not always possible to properly clean it in public toilets. Mine also had these small holes at the top and the blood was stuck in there and it was impossible to remove it completely.
I never understood Americans use of tampons with applicators. Here in Australia I don't think they sell them anywhere, just the tampons, and that's no issue here.
I don’t need the separation you described of a tampon because I think it’s societally taboo. I want it because it’s literally bleeding and I don’t want to get it every where
I still can't wrap my head around people using only one product at a time. Inevitably, the tampon (or cup) will reach capacity and a pad is needed for the overflow
I do love cups as I find tampon strings kind of gross. But I have yet to find a cup that doesn’t still leak, and I have tested a half a dozen different kinds. I think it’s just my anatomy.
I'm from Europe and among my friends pads are way more popular. I guess it's because of the marketing tactics. Pads are more promoted than other products
I have no problem with blood, never felt any stigma. There's just no way I'm sticking something in my body, unless it's a life and death situation. I tried tampons, removing them is so damn painful for me. Cotton pads rule.
Question to the muslims out there: Do you guys wash your pads before throwing it in the trash? I'm 35 and I've only found out about 1-2 months ago that apparently women in my country (largest muslim population in the world) do this to prevent Jin(s) from following the smell of blood and into their homes and lives. I'm a non-muslim so this is suprising and highly fascinating to me! I would've never thought of washing a pad before throwing it away - for whatever reason. And here I was, thinking that the people in my country is conservative and "shy", when it comes to our genitals.
I would love if when giving data like "X% of women used tampons by the year 1944" you would say if it refers to the US, or maybe all countries a certain brand was sold or what.
This is exactly the type of period talk I needed as a teenage girl. Without taboo and shame. Great job!!!
Me, a guy who never has and never will use a tampon, watching this: Huh, interesting, good point😂
Never say never
Medically, a tampon is just cotton stuffed in a person to absorb blood. For example, in treating gun shot wounds.
@@benbookworm*cotton full of harmful chemicals
You may have to take care of girls at some point, and you definitely want them to be cool with asking you to go get emergency supplies. They'll love you for it!
THANK YOU FOR THIS!!! Men making it not weird is so helpful to break the stigma.
Discs > Cups
Just my opinion ❤
Menstrual cup for me. Love it!
It was a Canadian friend that introduced me to a menstrual cup.
anyone know why future proof health doesn't upload anymore? i think its pretty unfair they locked the explanation behind a paywall (patreon).
High school would be too late. Girls need this by 5th-7th grades, many adolescents begin their periods by 14.
@@ivoted-5489My friend hit theirs at 9 and i hit mine at 10, so ... Elementary school?
Totally appreciate the video as well but for educational purposes I would resort to the videos of mama doctor jones. This is something they should learn about from an expert and there is more that goes into the choice of period product. Cups might not be compatible with all forms of birth control, people might be athletes, people might consider sex during their periods, people might have issues with inserting anything into the vagina, people might have a very heavy flow. Point is, ideally school educates on that even more than this (good) video does.
@@ivoted-548914 is even late for a lot of people, a lot start from 11 onwards
The first time I used a cup, it was very stressful. Eventually it was fine, but I also prefer reusable pads now. An episode on those and period underwear would be great.
Yeah. Sitting all day in a puddle of blood is great!
@@CordeliaWagner I love when my blood diaper crusts itself to my pubic hair and I have to painfully rip it off 😃
I don’t know if you know about menstrual discs, I’ve also tried a menstrual cup, but a disc was a lot easier for me. It doesn’t have suction so it’s a lot easier to insert and remove
I hated the feeling of a tampon or anything like it because it felt like a wedgie for the vagina. Much prefer pads & period underwear. (Actually I'd prefer to never have periods at all but biology for women is fucking awful and unfair and we have to suck it up 😞)
I love my Aisle panties! Adding a disc for heavy days could be nice. Cups were too difficult.
I’ve heard a few people rave about Nixit!! I’m definitely curious to try it. Thanks for sharing ♥️Sher
DAMN! Thanks for sharing your experience here. It’s something we need to talk about so much more. Glad you were able to get it out safely. ♥️Sher
Thank you 🤗
@@josephinenilsson1541 Oh my! I'm so sorry that happened to you. I'm glad you were able to remove it. 🤗
They’re good Victoria’s Secret sells them
I use Aisle brand cus they’ve always had outside testing for pfas.
Yes, PLEASE make a video on reusable pads and period underwear! The whole Thinx lawsuit has my head spinning. I though I finally found a sustainable, SAFE alternative to pads and tampons and it turns out I was wrong? Wtf?
oh god whats up with them
Same here! I wanted to try them and now I'm terrified, so much mixed info floating around.
Aisle panties had published pfas tests (negative) back in 2016 so that is what I bought. Highly recommend, I’m still using mine in 2023.
If you’re worried you can make or buy reusable pads out of flannel cotton with and waterproof backing.
That’s awesome!! I love this story. I haven’t seen anything about that brand but I’ll definitely check it out. Thanks for sharing ♥️Sher
That’s the “packs” in “Tampax” 😊 I’m a big menstrual disc user because they’re good for the environment, wallet-friendly, and they DO last about 12 hours of collection, which is how long nursing shifts are
Amazing!!! Thank you so much for sharing this on here 🙏🏾 We appreciate you being apart of the conversation 🙌🏽♥️Sher
Aren’t they the best? I love that I’m not putting anything in the trash, just washing ☺️☺️ Thanks for joining us here! ♥️Sher
Thanks so much for tuning in and sharing your experience! ♥️Sher
I love using my cup.
try the disk! I find its a lot easier to insert comfortably
I would also recommend looking into menstruated discs! Especially if the suction is an issue
For sure want more about period panties and reusable pads!
Thank you!! It’s my favorite so far too 😊 Appreciate you joining us here and glad you’re enjoying ♥️Sher
It kinda surprises me that someone can be afraid or disgusted of their own body… never even crossed my mind, what I told myself was: just gotta do the thing, since I already got it 😅🤷♀️
Would love to see a video on reusable period underwear - especially addressing the Thinx lawsuit!
This channel is amazing and should be shown to all preteens and young adults! 🎉🎉🎉
Appreciate the love!! Thanks for joining us here ♥️Sher
Period underwear is the best! I love finding something that works for you and the environment
Menstrual discs and period panties for the win
Fascinating! I'm glad we can talk about physical health issues and break down the stigma around this part of society!
Thank goodness I stuck with it as it has saved me loads of money and it has had a positive affect to the period pain I always used to get.
This was such a great episode! this is needed for so many people. Between this and FutureProof do you really need anything else?
What a compliment 😍😍😍 Thanks for joining us here 🙌🏽 ♥️Sher
Ive been a huge fan of OB tampons cause they are applicator free but i think it was the stepping stone i needed to finally pick up a menstrual cup ❤
in my country most of the tampons they sell are applicator free (it took me a while to find applicator ones) and yea it's so much easier to convert to a menstrual cup when you're already familiar
I'm well past needing any of these products but really appreciated the info and history. Stigma was definitely a thing when I started 😢
I can only imagine! I feel we’ve come along way in my life so far and I’m excited to see where we go 😊 Thanks for joining us here and sharing ♥️Sher
Tampons: Medical device, FDA approved
Lawmakers: Luxury item!
I’ve been using reusable pads then undies since 2010. It was good practice for cloth diapers! Our sprayer setup is multi purpose 😂
Yo If you dint chuckle when the Dora’s backpack gobbled them books up, u not awake. “Delicioso” hahahahaha
It’s my favorite part!! Bless the editor💫🤣♥️Sher
So appreciate your comments 😁. I'm past needing these but would have liked your attitude when I did 😅
Yes! Thank you for sharing this 🙏🏾 It’s so great to hear everyone’s experiences and tips on this topic. ♥️Sher
Yes, yes, yes!
Make a video about other menstrual products as well. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I would love a video about reusable menstrual products!
This was awesome. Thanks! We need one about menstrual cups too!
Great topic. Thank you. ❤
I was hesitant about cups, but I gave it a try - Why didn't I do that years ago?!
Still, you might need some adjustment over time, bodies change.
Sometimes it can be challenging with rheumatoid arthritis, but for me it's just the most comfortable method for these times.
R.I.P. FPH
Menstrual discs are great. Have not tried a cup and do not plan to but will try reusable pads or underwear, know any good brands for pads?
Honestly I wish I could stay in a separate tent while bleeding. I'm over pushing myself to behave normally while on my period.
Rest up!! Take space. You deserve it 😊♥️Sher
@Future Proof Health I appreciate you thinking that, unfortunately my boss and school do not care.
Let's make it stop that's really weird "
Yeah it should just be eliminated.
I'm an avid user of reusable menstrual products for about 15 years - which is still very niche in my county. As many have written before me, please try a menstrual disc, my fav is Cora Disc - it's a holy grail of menstrual inventions for me! I always laugh when I see my friends' faces when I explain to them how it works.😂
Also I'd love to see a vid about menstrual underwear (really, pad companies should be ashamed how uncomfortable pads are in comparison) and please make one about panty liners.
💀💀💀💀 oh god that's not something I'd have ever wanted to read, not even a summarized version....
I get swelling and welts it’s painful can’t use. Now use reusable products carefully cleaned
Menstrual cup is the best . I just struggle a little to get it seated right
I never used a tampon... but I do hate the pads and the cotton sticking down there.
Menstrual cup, washable pads and period underwear are what I use.
Tampon ads made me think that old women are unable to play sports without pissing themselves
I would love to see a video on reusable pads and period underwear!
I have two cups, haven't spent a dime of any other products in two years
why no new vodeos
I do love cups as I find tampon strings kind of gross. But I have yet to find a cup that doesn’t still leak, and I have tested a half a dozen different kinds. I think it’s just my anatomy.
after 3 Kids I use a cup and pads, but they take FOREVER to be rinsed out. Any tipps?
I'm from Europe and among my friends pads are way more popular. I guess it's because of the marketing tactics. Pads are more promoted than other products
When you find that right cup or disc it is amazing!!!! Just dont drop it in an automatic toilet that will eat it like its nothing.
Period tip: invest in a microwavable plush. It helps with cramps and its weighty. Worth the money and its cute!
My menstrual cup was a money saver when I was trialing Nexplanon (birth control implant) and I was bleeding for 6 months straight lol
Wow! Glad it worked for you 🙌🏽 Thanks for joining us here and sharing ♥️Sher
