      Honestly, yeah. Yakuza 5 entire story is just a huge mess and the plot sometimes felt nearly impossible to follow! But I'll be damned if they didn't give one of the best final boss fights of the series! This really felt like the first time Kiryu really had to fight for his life since Ryuji Goda! Mine and all the bosses of 4 really just don't don't hold the same weight at all! Mind you, while less physically imposing than Kiryu, Nishki provided a particularly stunning emotional impact that made that final boss fight so memorable.
      Damn I love these games!

      I dunno, the fight was neat I guess but you had already kicked his ass twice at that point (he even had help the first time) which really took me out of it. I felt like the whole thing was forced. Like “Oh shit we still need a final boss who is there left?!” Kinda vibe.

    • @ericbot924
      @ericbot924 3 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      @@TRDEWH Story wise he definitelly was a bit of an ass-pull, though I guess the in the first fight he didn't give his all since he didn't want to kill Kiryu, same with Saejima and he was weakened from his previous colloseum fight. At least it's not as bad as with Ryuji who has his second fight minutes before the final one.

    • @TRDEWH
      @TRDEWH 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@ericbot924 Well, a couple things, Kiryu was also weakened in the final fight due to the bullet in his gut, and during Aizawa’s fight against Saejima he WAS trying to kill him, to find Morinaga.
      Granted Aizawa got his ass handed to him beforehand (like a little bitch) before his fight with Saejima but still. The first fight between Kiryu and Morinaga/Aizawa Aizawa was the first to instigate the fight in the first place so I fell he had his heart set most in the first place.
      I dunno, Yakuza 5’s plot is by far the worst to me in the series. Like the gameplay’s great (except for a BUCNCH of gripes I have with Akiyama and Haruka, the characters’ behavior in the game altogether feels forced and not accurate to what was set up in previous games but whatever) but Shinada and the rest of the cast are a helluva lot of fun to play as, and the minigames are awesome but fuck, I have a ton of gripes with the main campaign. Feels like all the work 3 and 4 put into making a decent story fell apart in 5.

In the end the only bosses I hated were Shibusawa, Lao Gui, Munakata, and maybe the final bosses of Judge Eyes and 7. He was there on his estranged father's orders, cuz he wanted to give the entire Omi Alliance and Tojo Clan to him in a nice little gift basket, but at the end of the day his initial beat down by Kiryu awoke something in him and made him realize he couldn't let go of the idea that Kiryu was better than him. He trained all his career to make it to the top while guys like Kiryu had the fame by being out in the limelight. @@CidGuerreiro1234 nah the story itself is actually really well written. Like it has more clever foreshadowing in each part than almost any of us realize the first time around. All in all the only possible “weak” story in the series is 3, and even that was pretty great

    • @CidGuerreiro1234
      @CidGuerreiro1234 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@DavidHosey1 Weakest story for me is 4 by far. It's all over the place, it revolves around a bunch of empty characters (Arai, Katsuragi, Munakata, Kido... you name it) and the finale couldn't be any less satisfying (Munakata worse than Jingu, ugh). Saejima's ending also amounts to nothing since he's immediately back in jail after it, and Tanimura isn't even mentioned again until you get to the Amons in 5.
      As for 5 it was just the mastermind plan that was convoluted beyond any reason, even if his goal was legit (leaving the fruits of his labour to his son, so that all his suffering wouldn't end up being meaningless). They should've given Aizawa more screen time and a more direct involvement in the plot, though. Killing Morinaga off-screen was also pretty dumb, especially after that dramatic moment by the end of Kiryu's story. Really feels like something was rewritten and there was simply no way to include him in the story anymore.
      That being said, I enjoyed Yakuza 5 a lot, and a lot more than 4 too. It's definetely in my top 3 Yakuza games.

    • @DavidHosey1
      @DavidHosey1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CidGuerreiro1234 that’s surprising, I found 4 to be very strong and only beaten by 0, 5, and 6 for the Kiryu games. Sure Katsuragi is kinda lame, but others like Arai, Kido, Sugiuchi, and others were very interesting to me. Each was at least as well written as other fan favorite characters from the series, like Ryuji or Mine, tho I do admit I like Mine more than them. The final boss was actually kinda fun for me but I had an almost max Tanimura so that might be why. And as for those two character endings, Saejima just felt more tragic because of the prison time and clan eviction in 5 which just added to his character for me, and Tanimura is annoying but understandable since he left rather suddenly due to false drug allegations. All in all not one of the top tiers like 0 or 5, but still above 1 and 3 for me for sure
      For 5 yes it was a mastermind plot, but honestly one of the best done ones I know. If you’re paying attention you can see it from the first cutscene or so, but I know a ton of people who didn’t even see the setup coming until Akiyama’s part or even later. Kurosawa himself is a very hateable but well made character, and while I think Aizawa should’ve gotten more screen time too I think he was fine as is too. He is foreshadowed to not be dead and to be much more than he seems pretty frequently in part 1, as well as the 3 Tojo traitors being foreshadowed to be working with Kurosawa extremely early as well. And I wish they showed the Morinaga death in a flashback, but they did it well enough too since right after he leaves the next day you hear about “a dead body with its face bashed into an unrecognizable state.” Since that was supposedly Aizawa at first but that’s clearly a more Aizawa thing to do it sets up Aizawa very nicely imo
      All in all it’s subjective, but personally I think both are very high quality stories. Especially 5, easily either my 1st or 2nd favorite alongside 0

    Okay, here's what's going on, as I understand it, put as plainly as I can make it.
    The Osaka detective is the mastermind behind the whole plot. His true identity is that of the Seventh Chairman of the Omi Alliance, Tsubasa Kurosawa.
    Kurosawa clawed his way up from the bottom to the top by himself by doing dirty work that no one else wanted to do. But once he finally got to the top, all he felt was emptiness after everything he'd done, including having to kill both his aniki and his ouyaji.
    Seeing other people climb to the top with little hardship because they had charisma or help from others sickened him. He believed that yakuza should use whatever means necessary to achieve their goals, instead of relying on charisma, or honor, or blood oaths.
    To make things worse, Kurosawa had contracted terminal lung cancer, and realized he had no legacy to leave behind. So he decided to put a plan into motion. He would cause turmoil within the Tojo Clan and the Omi Alliance, remove the top dogs from the picture, merge the remains together in his own image, and then leave it all to his son, Masato Aizawa.
    Aizawa was in on the whole plan from the beginning, but he didn't really care about Kurosawa's legacy that much. Aizawa's belief that only the strongest win, regardless of charisma, power, pedigree, or natural talent, is what drove him to get strong enough on his own to surpass Kazuma Kiryu, and earn his spot as a legend and top dog among the yakuza.

      Ichiban is the exact opposite, despite his remarkable physical strength he is and has always been a social outcast who nobody ever cared and his growth as character and as person is given by the bond he gets with his friends, not to consider that despite all he got through his life, he always remained a positive person willing to do anything to be loyal to the people he cares. If Kiryu is the japanese alpha male, Ichiban shows so many shades of his character being at same time stupid, funny, serious, smart, stoic and hopeful. Most people ignore it's not a sudden writing, Aizawa really seemed to be someone that could fit this role from the beginning, but man, it'd be better if he didn't disappeared from half of the game, just add some scenes during Haruka-Akiyama and Shinada parts and done.

    Bro it's subtext. Kiryu is the final boss in the way of Aizawa's yume. After all, there's literally nowhere else Kiryu can go. He fought his brother in 1, another dragon in 2, and a mirrored version of himself in 3. What direction can you take the strongest person in-lore, so that it would make sense in not only a gameplay but story perspective? Make him the final boss of someone else. That's why Aizawa is secretly brilliant ngl. He rejected his father's yume so that he could fulfill his own.

    As much as I like the side content of Yakuza 5, we have to admit that the story tried to cram so much shit to make it all connect to the characters. Makes it feel like they’re taking the piss and somewhat had the balls to mention it with Aizawa’s reveal lacking development.

    • @linhza501

      They clearly didn't have enough time so they just conveniently pull some bullshit out their asses for the ending to wrap it all up. Also there are lots of characters that are introduced early on but just tossed to the side or never mentioned again in the story. The woman living with Kiryu for example (forgot her name, because she's clearly that forgettable lol).
      They shot themselves in the foot with such a big scope in terms of story. But the gameplay managed to pull the game back a lot, thankfully.

    I think Kurosawa went in the end like:
    "Okay, my plan is screwed, at least my son right now can take over the Tojo, for a little while."
    Also, what are you pepople even talking about? 5 has one of the best storylines in the series, and you can pretty much follow it! I can't even count how many times i was confused while playing 4, especially when it was finale, but here... Everything was actually decent.
    "Dreams/Yume are retarted theme."
    Did you even followed the story? This theme involves every character and was played out actually pretty good, and it didn't felt "forced", like everyone says.

    • @azuzawa5076
      @azuzawa5076 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think Kurosawa's whole thing was that he went through hell to claw his way to the top, then he got diagnosed with terminal illness and spun into an existential crisis wondering what it was all for.
      Y5 shoves its themes in your face really hard, "Dreams" and "Legacy". The idea that a dream is something that can be passed from person to person. Kurosawa comes with his whole plan after learning he's about to die because he feels like if he has a dream to pass on to his son then his life won't have been meaningless.
      There's obvious parallels between Kurosawa's goals and Mirei Park trying to pass on her dream to Haruka, plus Kiryu working hard to protect the orphanage and give the kids there a better life than he had. All these characters find meaning in life by making sacrifices to pass their dreams onto a new generation.
      I think Kiryu probably realized this parallel at the end too once he learned Kurosawa's true goals. I think he can relate to Kurosawa and he's trying to honor him by actually giving his son a real fight and a chance to overcome and succeed. It's obvious that Kiryu isn't super angry in this fight.
      Aizawa never really knew his dad and doesn't really understand his dream, but he's willing to rise up to the challenge since the opportunity presented itself.
      That's all my interpretation at least.

    The theme, in case it wasn't picked up on the totally subtle theme this time was *Dreams* , and passing them onto other people. A charismatic replacement for Kiryu that might actually be able to control both the Omi and Tojo, but Aizawa doesn't care much for the "Dream" others have pushed onto him, but he's also lost so much to fulfill it he can't stop.
