Egyptian dialect isn't actually the closest to MSA nor is the Levantine, the closest I would say is the Najdi dialect (Riyadh) in Saudi Arabia, but for non Arabic speakers I think the easiest dialects are Egyptian and Levantine, first cuz they don't pronounce some of the difficult letters like 8 (ق) for example they use A (ا) instead and also cuz of the many resources, Songs, Drama, TV shows where compared to other Arabic countries they are the best, BTW I'm from Saudi Arabia

Ohhhh my GOD As an egyptian that's making me so happy to hear! You can actually start writing in arabic using franko arab. We write the arabic using english letters and we also use numbers! Ex: Ezayek ya Jo wahashteeny gedaan
I have been wanting to learn Arabic since I was in middle school and I finally decided to start... I smiled throughout the entire video, you motivated me soo much!!!
A little tip, there are two words for "try", which are "bagarab" and "bahawel". The first one, which you used at the beginning of the video is mostly used to express that you're trying something for the first time/ or for a short period of time. For example: I want to try out that new coffee place around the corner. In this instance, you'll use "agarab" While "bahawel" is used to express that you're trying to do smth or trying your best. i.e.: I'm trying to finish my work on time. So, the word you were looking for at the beginning is "bahawel". Hope this helped!
Jo, I speak Portuguese, English and Spanish (in this order haha), but I still want to learn so many languages... looking at your effort with Arabic inspired me so much to start Italian lessons! Thanks!!!
Hey Jo! Best of luck to you!❤, I'd like to add that we egyptians usually formulate wh questions putting the wh words at the end of the sentence. ex: "where are you ?" = "Enti (female you) fein (where)"? That is a syntactic feature inherited from coptic, it might be bugging at first but you'll get used to it.
Mate, I'm learning the MSA with Pimsleur, and it's so so different from Egyptian Arabic. I wish they were all the same, but it is what it is. You encouraged me to start again, it's been a week since I stopped.
Reminds me when I speak Egyptian with my Egyptian colleagues as an Iraqi. Note: Modern Standard Arabic is used everywhere in books, news, poems, and many things so it’s not spoken but mostly written.

Can you please tell me what Arabic is spoken in Saudi Arab, I'm Moving there and I need to learn Arabic :)
May allah never allow the day where dialectic arabic is used in place of fusha in formal settings subhanallah. That would be a huge slippery slope. The Arabs already have abandoned their language imagine if fusha was taken out from the few spaces left where it’s being used
Jo, Ahmed is right, your pronunciation and vocabulary are phenomenal for someone who has just started learning Egyptian Arabic so recently. As an Egyptian, I’m SO impressed 😊. Keep up the good work 👍👍
I am graduating in a week with an Arabic minor (MSA only) and I am so hyped to start learning Egyptian Arabic! Definitely gonna be checking out these resources :D
مبروك!
@@Raghdaedesogi شكرا
May i ask, from your bachground in just MSA , how much egyptian were you able to understand?
I think this is the sign I need to finally learn arabic... I've been going back and forth in either learning Egyptian, Palestinian, or Gulf Arabic. Bt now you're convincing me to learn the egyptian dialect.
Egypt is the Hollywood of the middle east. So if you learn egyptian arabic you will have access to 80% of the arab world's most famous movies and serials. ❤️❤️
Jo I’m so proud of you!! I speak Iraqi Arabic which is a bit different but because of Egyptian tv shows and movies I understand Egyptian Arabic and your fluency is really coming! Keep it up, love you 💕
Im egyptian and I love iraqi arabic...كلش طيب 😊😊
Iraqi is very different than egyptian and i think that most egyptian can’t understand iraqi dialect or can’t differentiate between it and kuwaiti or other khaleeji dialects
As an Egyptian I wanna say
أحسنتي اوي
عااااااش
Your Arabic is so so good 👏
I love how open minded you are . I love your curiosity and hardworking good job ♥️
YESSSS!!!! I am going to Egypt this year and I was just telling myself I need to learn Arabic, then I turn on TH-cam and see this video !!!
Your Egyptian acsent is very good for a beginner .. keep the good work
Omg you speak Egyptian Arabic so well. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
this was the ass kicking I needed to get back to spanish. something traumatic happened at the beginning of this year which made me put it down - but it's been months and I can't keep making excuses!! thank you for this awesome video, I love seeing your journey and your tips are super helpful
Ohhhh my GOD
As an egyptian that's making me so happy to hear! You can actually start writing in arabic using franko arab. We write the arabic using english letters and we also use numbers!
Ex: Ezayek ya Jo wahashteeny gedaan
the translating your personality thing is such a smart way to look at it
🔥🔥🔥 Great vid Jo!
I love your videos and I see you on loads of other language videos haha
I’m Egyptian - very happy that you’ve chosen to learn our dialect!! Best of luck :)
ok, you convinced me to go back to mandarim thanks for that
right! same
If you are looking for motivation for learning chinese, I would suggest a podcast called "you can learn chinese". Really inspiring 😁🙌
@@sasharama5485 oh thank you so much ☺️
@@mateuscamposs good luck😁✌️
I have been wanting to learn Arabic since I was in middle school and I finally decided to start... I smiled throughout the entire video, you motivated me soo much!!!
I realized how much I’d missed listening to you speaking and giving us many nuggets of wisdom. Bisous depuis Lausanne
I’ve never felt so alive and intellectually stimulated by a youtube video🤩 this was amazing and now I want to go learn Arabic
you never cease to impress me
As an Egyptian: YOU ARE SPEAKING IT SO GOOD WOW
A little tip, there are two words for "try", which are "bagarab" and "bahawel". The first one, which you used at the beginning of the video is mostly used to express that you're trying something for the first time/ or for a short period of time.
For example: I want to try out that new coffee place around the corner. In this instance, you'll use "agarab"
While "bahawel" is used to express that you're trying to do smth or trying your best.
i.e.: I'm trying to finish my work on time.
So, the word you were looking for at the beginning is "bahawel". Hope this helped!
As an Egyptian this makes me so happy and proud❤️❤️❤️ good luck and go on
Jo, I speak Portuguese, English and Spanish (in this order haha), but I still want to learn so many languages... looking at your effort with Arabic inspired me so much to start Italian lessons! Thanks!!!
Buona fortuna, signorina!
I love seeing the influence of Coptic on masri
Mate, I'm learning the MSA with Pimsleur, and it's so so different from Egyptian Arabic. I wish they were all the same, but it is what it is. You encouraged me to start again, it's been a week since I stopped.
YOU ARE INSANELY GIFTED AT LEARNING LANGUAGES WOW!!
Thanks boo ❤️
So proud of you habibti! Love this video! Yalla, get that knowledge 💃🏽🇪🇬
Reminds me when I speak Egyptian with my Egyptian colleagues as an Iraqi.
Note: Modern Standard Arabic is used everywhere in books, news, poems, and many things so it’s not spoken but mostly written.
Arabic is so amazing, I am an Egyptian Author by the way. I am writing novels and books in various fields .. you look amazing Joanna .. keep going
This is crazyyyy congrats habibtyyy you encourage me to start learning Egyptian Arabic since I have a friend from Cairo. This is so great!! thank you
Jo , I'm an Egyptian and you made it ! You sound great and pronounce great ! I really hope you can make a Video that would generally help learn a language and I'll take it word for word !!

I learner tigrinya during lockdown and hands down it is the thing I learner so far that had the best long term effects of anything I learner so far. I think I will also go towards arabic now as I feel that this language is even richer and may be even more rewarding. Keep the curiosity burning ❤

Incredible pronunciation after just two months. Having a personal connection with someone--a tutor, a friend, etc.--definitely makes an enormous difference. Thanks for sharing!

You definitely did a great job learning the language so far! I’m really impressed, keep it up girl 😆! I can speak Egyptian too along side my dialect which is Kuwaiti. I’m currently learning Greek and watching your video made me motivated again to learn! Finally I’d like to say : بالتوفيق يا حببتي و ان شاءالله تتكلمي مصري زي الفل 😂💙
2 minutes in and I am absolutely IN AWE!! You're so inspiring
❤️❤️
this is really motivating me to learn arabic as well, been in such a slump bc of quarantine and this is the first thing i've been excited about in such a long time
As an Egyptian, I want to praise you for all the effort you’ve put into learning our dialect because you do such a good job pronouncing the words and combining them with facial expressions and tones. This isn’t something everybody would do, but you are successfully embodying the language. I can just imagine how much media content you must have consumed to reach such a level. Keep it up! You’re an inspiration.
I'm so excited for this series! I've never seen anyone actually document the language learning process from start to finish. This'll definitely help a lot :D
currently learning Egyptian Arabic for the last two months (not as hard or constantly as you) but i gotta say that you inspired me to keep on going (i’m making videos of my progress, even tho it’s in portuguese). I’m also a brazilian polyglot who loves and lives languages. bora! yalla!
The real story is why your basic level of masri was * I love you so much let’s get married * 😂😂

Samee, lowkey scary when you realise you've started forgetting some words!
Wow!! Your video is very inspiring! I am learning Jordanian Arabic, and I'm enjoying it! I also started studying it seriously every day during the pandemic, and I'm taking weekly lessons on iTalki. I really enjoy the logic of Arabic, and, like you, I ask lots of questions and enjoy discovering the patterns.
Jo as I really big fan of your videos, I think that you could share with us the technic that you used in the process of learning a new language.
i'm going to break it down and work on it for the part 2!
I am so happy that I saw this video ❤️❤️❤️
You’re Amazing Jo, I needed this motivation to master Spanish.

omg her arabic is sooo good! coming from a Jordanian myself, I am really happy someone is studying my mother language arabic
I'm so jealous you have a friend who speaks the language which motivates you! I love learning French but not knowing anybody besides my tutor who speaks it sucks cause I feel like I don't get to practice as much as I can 😭
Go to Meetup, free conversations in different conversation groups.
there are apps for that
Hi Jo!! This is awesome, great job honestly!!!
I am from Lebanon, but I moved to Canada around 3 years ago.
You were right about how we have to learn 3 languages, so we grow up knowing French, Arabic and English, I'm really thankful for that of course!
I love your channel, I've been around since the other channel lol🤣
I also love languages, so I learned a bit of Italian and now Spanish. 😍
If you ever want to speak some Arabic in a different dialect with a Lebanese, I'm here for you girl! 🤣
