PRO Skimboarders score Aliso wedge - Blair Conklin, Bill Bryan & more

- Skimboarding world champ Blair Conklin joins Bill Bryan and friends to score some gray May wedges at one of the most famous skim spots in California. Blair was testing his new pro model fish tail skimboard by Exile. All footage shot on May 22nd 2018.
I used to skim that wedge at aliso back in 86 so stoked to see you guys shred my favorite spot.

I can not believe how far this sport has advanced. In 1954 we called it skid boarding and it was a 2 ft round piece of 1/2 in plywood. Also we had what we called belly boarding with fins and nobody stood on it seems like they have combined what we called skid boarding and belly boarding and came up with this amazing new sport Skim Boarding. Former surfer from 208 19th st Manhattan Beach now an old man living in North Idaho who went to the mountains to ski powder.

Not quite sure but I know most these guys ride Exile or Victoria but mostly Exile.

people don't understand how gnarly skim boarding is. surfing and body boarding you kick into the wave so you don't really see it jack up but skimming your charging towards it why it jacks up... like catching the side wave at the wedge and seeing what your kicking into rather than having your back to it is a huge difference.

Amazing skimboarders. It's the slippy-slidyest. Used to tow-skim on river rapids and over sandbars n such pulled behind my buds pickup driving way close along the river edge, upstream and downstream. Very hard not to skip school in May when a handful of kids start talking about skipping to the river for the day while in the school parking lot in the morning before classes.

Pro Tip: Skim boards are awesome for shredding, and at night they double as a nifty ironing board so you can put a nice seam into your boardshorts and tees for the next days adventures.

BTW, being from Hawaii and an old guy, we use to have to find a piece of plywood to make our own. Kids use to standup surf the wave in front of the Wall in Waikiki with plywood. Wish I could remember this old guys name who shreds old cut down boards long boards without fins.
That kid Brad Domke blew my mind getting towed into a 15'+ wave and making look like a walk in the park.

Francisco Rios the dudes I the vid are the top skimmers in the world with years of practice and it’s something they learned over years to plane out far like that. I think it takes a lot of practice. Just keep at it 🤙🤙🤙
