One of the things I enjoy most about your work is that you are never a slave to either old tech nor new tech. We see a precision milling machine and an old draw knife used on the same project. I love that!
I don't think there's anything that you don't do. That I love, You are by far one of my favorite channels. It would be a privilege. To work alongside you and learn. Hopefully one day I can meet you and Shake Your Hand. And tell you, thank you for everything you do. Please keep up the great work. I enjoy watching every video.
Something I really enjoy about your videos is I can always get a sense of the object that you have created. The weight of the thing or the balance, or the feel of it in your hand. I really appreciated the end of this one. The first video I saw of yours years back you cut some steel back in your old NY shop. After you cut it you tapped it on some other steel and it rang. I was very happy to hear that and see that you have still carried on doing things like that. Makes the object real. Thanks man. Great vid.
just an idea maybe you could cut the corners of the square part off to look like a hex, to look like your ice picks. or maybe a brass ring at the end of the handle. great work as always!
Josh Fick oh sir, you must be new here. We don’t tell jimmy what we think he should’ve done. We just watch the video and are thankful for the greatness bestowed upon our peasant selves.
Coatrack was useful for years and years, now the hammer will be for years and years. That was really cool. Love the inclusion of more milling and turning in the vids. As always, great stuff. 👍
And there I was thinking "There's no way that trashy coat stand is solid brass." You can tell how pleased Jimmy is will the result by how much time he spends playing when he's done. A thing from trash. Inspirational. Now reforge the shavings and make Ice picks. A thing from the trash of trash. Imagine if this was how the world worked. Thanks J.
simple but beautiful. Kind of tool that you want to keep nice and feel bad using, but also the kinda tool that since it feels nice and looks good, you want to use it.
If Jimmy Diresta and Adam Savage ever got together to build something, the sheer awesomeness of such a thing may in fact tear a hole in space-time and destroy the universe.
Hey Jimmy, you really are the best. You always do it with a lot of dedication and you are very careful in the final details. I am an accountant in Brazil and in my free time, I spend most of my time watching your videos. You are excellent. Congratulations!!!
Gotta love your vision, where some would see trash you saw a hammer. Then you made a pretty sweet hammer, love the spalted handle. As always thanks for your inspiring work!
I think if you made the handle and the eye more of an oval cross section (as seen on most hammers, axes etc.), it would be easier to feel for accurate face alignment when striking, and the head would not tend to rotate on the handle. But hey what do I know. If it works, it works
I made a hammer like this when I was 12. Made the same mistake that Jimmy did. The head rotates in use. I still have the hammer head. Two things are missing on his design. The handle will fall off eventually because the hole is not belled on the top side of the hammer head. And the hole is round instead of oval. The quick fix is to cross pin it.
At first I thought that the square/flat sides was a dumb idea... but at the end you show why it's an excellent idea! You can put it on the edge of a table and it won't fall off :)
Looks great, good to see more casting. I learned to put the crucible straight back in the furnace after pouring, which reduces the risk of it cracking from cooling down too quickly. Looking forward to maybe seeing more CNC or 3D printed patterns for sand casting or lost foam casting.
That's gorgeous, but I would advise against using spalted wood in handles for anything that'll take a beating. It significantly weakens the structure of the grain.

Using the step bit to deburr the hole was a cool tip. And it was satisfying watching it spin on the bandsaw.

thank you!!
YES.
Tiny hands, brass, and a hammer. This hit all my DiResta checkboxes!
Oh look it's Peter, hello

After watching your videos for years I still can't get enough. Your ideas and application always amaze.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🙏🏼👊🏼
There is hidden reason why it is square. Great idea Jimmy 👊
I came to say similar. At least relieve those damned points a squosh!!! :-( (but a fine project, regardless, of course)

Watching the machine head cut through the brass, melts just like butter, so cool
Work of art. Love milled brass. So beautiful
Can't believe that hanger was pure brass
That's exactly what I was thinking. Things were different back in those days.
Yeah... That's rare... would've restored that!
Why? Lots of solid brass items still being made... It's not gold.
There is nothing quite as satisfying as making one's own tools, and then finding them indispensable.
Hammer’s are always nice, but I’m waiting for you to make a Flux Capacitor for time travel!!!😂😂😂😂🤘🤘🤘👍
This is DiResta at his best! Taking scrap and make something beautiful off of it. Reminds me a little bit of Trash to Cash. Nice work!
Kartoffel Heinz dude yeah! Jimmy did all the work and his brother haggled for him lol. Jk
Just like when i started watching 100 years ago. Taking something dead and giving it new life. Love these videos.
Reminds of the Original Jimmy....basic, all hand made, old school tech, nice to see every now and then again.
Im still fascinated with your freehand skills, and it works👌
If Jimmy Diresta and Adam Savage ever got together to build something, the sheer awesomeness of such a thing may in fact tear a hole in space-time and destroy the universe.
So satisfying watching that hammer spinning round at the end! So clean
Thor would be proud of you !!! Great video and Educational / Entertaining ...............Stay well my brother
What a fantastic use from old copper, I love it
Your work is just lovely. It’s a joy to watch your videos.
The whole video I was thinking, 'that's a very basic looking hammer'. Then at the end the display of balance that design has is insane and very cool.
That hammer is sheer poetry in tool form.
Thanks Jimmy for sharing your adventures!👍👍👍

tried doing this with old coffee filters, probably works better when your trash is made of brass.
Amazing work! Always it's interesting to see how simple things make masterpieces.
Sei il top degli artigiani
Gotta love your vision, where some would see trash you saw a hammer. Then you made a pretty sweet hammer, love the spalted handle. As always thanks for your inspiring work!
I like this channel but seriously has anyone ever loved their own name as much as Jim diresta?
no one I believe he addressed this in the past by saying it’s a copyright of sorts since his vids get reuploaded a lot.
@@embeaston yeah, ok cheers, but still.
Of my 700+ videos across the internet I need to keep branding alive.
@@jimmydiresta fair enough buddy, keep up the good work.
So simple, yet so elegant. Nicely done.
I really enjoy seeing the things you create!
Must be nice to just hit the print button......😂😂😂😂
Amazing as always Jimmy!
Jimmy is a living printer
"I understood that reference" =)
and a new meme was born
'dem fighting words, right there.
looking forward to seeing how well this cuts a burrito
Bryce Henderson lmao 😂
You and your street finds.....love it...!!!
wow that band saw is HUGE! cool video

Absolutely awesome, from a piece of junk to a beautifully crafted hammer.
An independent 4 jaw chuck with a scroll!!! Nice!!!
I would not have guessed you could get that much brass from a coatrack. Very cool!
Hammer spinning was brilliant! Thanks as always for an inspiring build.
Unique and beautiful !!!! Love the handle that complements the brass !! Keep them coming Jimmy !
That bandsaw is almost the size of my entire workbench. Awesome video also. I would love that hammer
Looks cool. Great mix of technique casting brass and carving the handle.
You should make a miniature hammer using the waste from that one. #Hammerinception
Then make a microscopic hammer with the waste from that one..
Hi Ryan. If you like miniature stuff. You might like my latest video.
Offcut from the top of the cast could have made the wedge for the hammer shaft, giving a nice top accent.
Just waiting for jimmy to block you for talking about waste. Lol
@@Lazywatchsmith is it a porno
There is another great product idea! So nice!
Love the baby hand push sticks
What a fantastic job you made for that.
internet: how do your hands get all...
jimmy: I'm a drill.
At first I thought that the square/flat sides was a dumb idea... but at the end you show why it's an excellent idea! You can put it on the edge of a table and it won't fall off :)
awesome. but "diresta" at 07:13 slightly tilted
Very nice every shop needs a brass hammer
There is something incredibly satisfying about the hammer spinning at the end.
Love it. 👍
I get it, it’s all about the journey!.....Very nice hammer!.....You are a rock star!!
Great video Jimmy Diresta!
The gold balance hammer.. great job 👍👍
Parabéns pelo trabalho, eu adoro ver o processo de fundir, é uma alquimia dos grandes artistas! Abraço aqui do Brasil 🇧🇷
Never a dull moment in your videos. Awesome as always.
Does anyone remember when you could see all four walls of Jimmys’ shop at once? Lol
I aspire to evolve like Jimmy! Because he hasn’t changed.
Even the hammer looks nice! Good Job!
Never cease to amaze! It’s a thing of beauty.
Looks great, good to see more casting. I learned to put the crucible straight back in the furnace after pouring, which reduces the risk of it cracking from cooling down too quickly. Looking forward to maybe seeing more CNC or 3D printed patterns for sand casting or lost foam casting.
beautiful hammer, and looks like it's weighted well.
Spalted handle is a very cool touch!
That kiln is serious! Good shit!
you can plug the holes in the brass with brazing alloy using a propane torch or the Tig torch
Love it. I think more of a tack hammer would be bit better with brass but that's probably me thinking about what I'd use it for
Jimmy is the OG asmr content creator
What an awesome hammer and use of scrap metal. I love it!
Nice to see something made workout cnc machines for a change.
When you were melting the metal it souded like something from the depths of hell haha. Great vid btw.
that was the metal screaming in agony as it was liquidated
Maybe that's why it's called the diresta devil forge.
I thought it sounded like a fighter jet hitting the afterburners!
It was Palpatine at the end of rise of Skywalker shooting force lightening from his hands.
Was no one else reminded of the 90's internet dial-up sound?
Respect from KSA Jimmy
I was already missing the small hands
yeah, who is this guy?
Again jimmy totally blowing away with the whole process from melting the bronze and making a Beautiful bronze mallet wow 😊😊😊
my favourite time of the week, and its over way too soon!!!
Jimmy, best use of one of those 80s coat stands, EVER! Magic to watch as always mate.

Such a creative mind! awesome project
Nice workmanship! Trash to treasure! Awesome,
at 3:34, on the right is a hammer, more like a real one !
What a coincidence, I just watched Black Bear Forge make a hammer last week!
Джимми, ты теперь ещё и литьё освоил? Прекрасно. Как это у вас говорят: from Russia with respect.
Heard about this on the making it podcast, you did not disappoint!!! 👍👍
Beautiful job Jimmy, one of my favourite videos of yours - simple, ingenious and resourceful!
Imagination and inspiration. The Diresta way!
Now that’s some fancy upcycling!
That's gorgeous, but I would advise against using spalted wood in handles for anything that'll take a beating. It significantly weakens the structure of the grain.
This machinist tap hammer will not get the abuse of a steel hammer.
3:55 over to the right... is that a shiny brass prototype hammer head?
Thanks Jimmy!!! It must feel good in the hand!
Awesome job again Jimmy.
Hi Jimmy !Wow good idea!Nice work man !Great Job !🤟😎
great upcycle!
I love trash to tool mentality!
This is a great video! You can look at your work endlessly ))))
What we can do with the right tools and expertise... 👏🏻👏🏻
Hehehe - awesome on so many levels. Love the spinning at the end - love your work!
Well done, but only possible with your professional tools👏
