l've never forgotton this....l was a 10 year old LFC fan watching this with my older brother on BBC motd live on sunday in our home in London in march 1988....When houghton scored...We went mental...But of cource... They done us a month later to stop us from beating leeds's 30 game unbeaten run in 1974....ln all fairness..Everton were the only ones to give the 1980s liverpool team a run for their money in that decade
I'd say Man United could give Liverpool a run for their money in the 80s , I know I'm a Liverpool fan ....Liverpool failed to beat Man U at Anfield in all league fixtures between 1979 and 1988 (except 1 win in league Cup in 1985 where Molby ran through the team and scored an amazing goal)
Everton were proper rivals in those days. I remember that season they beat us in the League Cup 1:0 at Anfield and then we blitzed them "2:0" at Anfield in the league. We were unbeaten on 29 matches and on course to beat Forest's record only to lose at Goodison 1:0. Still cannot fathom how we lost the FA cup final that year to Wimbledon.
I was in the park end for this, we didn't concede a goal in the cup that year until the semi when clough scored for forest, all those brilliant performances in the cup that year only to lose to fucking Wimbledon in the final. Still hurts badly that game !!
I know Everton were really good in the 80's but they always made these games as scrappy as they could. Liverpool would always try and get the ball down and play but Everton were determined to play head tennis.
look at the crowds packed in...memories of being a kid in the 1980s..
This is the famous Barnes banana back-heel picture game.
aged 16 with a hangover from my nans 60th . In the Park End behind the goal chocca to say the least. Great days.

How the fuck can you support Liverpool and come from London ?.

LOL at the amazement at Barnes' 'new haircut' - a standard 0.5 trim today.
In the 1980s the City of Liverpool was the footballing Capital of the World.
Since english clubs were facing Heysel ban the whole world was under the impression the best football was played in the Italian League.

A fellow Blue who I went to school with in St Helens (Sutton High) was a ball-boy for this game.

Poor performance by Everton.
Lots of hoofball going on in that game by Everton. They didn't even try to play football.
