Hi guys. Just a small hint. In hilly areas never follow the autonomy. Only how many segments are left. The Formular behind every electric car is an average of the last X km or miles. We have a Twizy and a ZOE and live on Tenerife. Every day we have climb 1200m in total or driving to any other spot on the island the kWh or range is totally different. Better always of course. Check how many kWh you used and recuperated. However, the Ami is cool, cheap and saves money.
That’s interesting. Ours is pretty consistent on the regeneration front ie the same climb seems to produce same usage and regen. We’ve never gone Into turtle mode but have never dropped below 13km remaining. (Mainly from fear of turtle!)
@@MeandMonAmi That’s sound very good. One question. What is please the fasted km/h while driving the steepest part of the hill you drove? Thank you and enjoy fun and cheap mobility.
hello, I am watching you with interest. You are testing the good and bad sides of Ami. It is considered to be successful in climbing. It looks like I will buy it when it starts selling in my country :) Have a nice trip to you. I will always follow you. Also, many thanks. Love from Turkey/Bodrum :)
If it weren't for the lack of comments I'd say you have the market sewn up! Seriously, thanks for your comments as this is really important info for us in Blighty.
Fascinating video. Thanks! I'm so impressed that, as new drivers, you've both settled in so quickly behind the wheel. As for regeneration, after several years I'm now on my fourth EV and can assure you that the regen you achieved on this trip was incredible. BTW Despite (or because of?) its size I reckon the Ami could be quite a challenge to drive. Very generous of you both to so willingly share your EV adventures. Thanks again!
Thanks Avid. Having never driven anything else I really don’t know re driving. It’s fun to drive as you are very aware of your surroundings as it were!
Hill climbs are of particular interest to me since I live on an island of hills. But I don't think as high as that! Impressive test. And that scenery was great. Thanks.
Great to watch a mid week vlog and good to learn more about Elton's statistics. Though the highlight for me was seeing little Halloween as well as the views, blue skies... merci ! 🐶
You guys put a big smile on my face when I saw that you put out a week day video!!! Halloween is adorable! It's interesting to learn about the car. The drive is gorgeous!!! Love from Vermont
Really good video. I follow the EV world even although I am a cyclist. Great camera work. Better than some of the professional channels with a team of camera and sound technicians. One way to get more views is to post a link to each video uploaded to Twitter or even Reddit. I think there is huge interest in the Citroen Ami and being in the French Riviera is a superb backdrop. Good to see the dog scamp about. Do you have to home charge Elton now that the charge card has been mislaid?
Very useful video. From all that goes around in TH-cam this one solved the BIG question. Going uphill 👍. Expecting my Ami in 3 weeks and now I know I can climb my nearest mountain in Athens 🇬🇷. Nice Work⭐. Will post more once I get hold of it. 🚙🚙
Best video yet for me as a potential buyer. Having put my £250 holding deposit down on an Ami I have been wondering if I should fully commit and purchase. Watching your videos have given me the confidence to proceed so thank you.
Hmmm I'm into your vids re: the scenery, anecdotes, history, food and the cheeky narration that goes with it. However I still enjoyed your video. Have you guys tried pitching your show to a streaming service or something? I have a feeling it would work out for you guys. Your show is brill.
Thanks for sharing your real world experience of the effect of climbing a very steep hill in your Cabin Scooter. For hill climbing, the autonomy guesstimate based on normal terrain is worse than useless. Does the instrument panel offer the choice to simply show the battery percentage instead, as on a smartphone?
Very interesting about your range/ efficiency… Basically on an extreme journey like this your efficiency is 75% (32km of battery to cover 24km = 75%). You can assume that on extreme journeys your batt will give you a max of 58km (77km x 75%) … so that is the stress free guaranteed range. Would you agree? Love your videos
Thanks Adrian. Generally we have found (video to come on this) that range on the Level really is as advertised and because of regen it’s not far off uphill (providing of course you come back via same route)
funny as I climbed after second mountain and after 800 meters driving up, my autonomy was the same with 41 km ;-) - at way back I stopped for an charge at Aldi
My friend Harry got a speeding ticket in his 2CV after dropping me off at Yeadon Airport. The Police Officer was laughing apparently. 33 in a 30 zone. Be careful there.
Interesting result... In the spring of 2015 (Cinq ans avant Ami - 5 years before Ami), we hired a Renault Twizzy in Funchal on the island of Madeira with its ever so steep roads. We then continued further down into the dead end valley with the confidence we would have enough juice to climb out of the valley, thru the sloping tunnel and up to the lookout, knowing we had regen brakes to come back down... Tourist coach on narrow cliff side road very intimidating... Yikes. Twizzy is fun and also faster than the Ami, but very cramped in rear seat, no luggage space and no windows - open top doors. Great for holiday hire but prefer Ami for real world use, plus the South of France. My 2CV6 is more practical than either... and has 115 kph and 300 km range.... It is worth double my new cost to get it to Australia after 285,000 kms.
@@MeandMonAmi Horses for courses I guess ... I bought a 500e for ( green ) city driving with a claimed 164>198 mile range which allows me to go anywhere in Norfolk, from home base in Norwich, free of worry. However, in the 5 months since purchase, being in the flatlands, I have only charged it 3 times ( 350 miles on the clock ) which pretty much equates from my gaff to Waitrose and back, twice a week. Four times the price but it has heating, cruise control, internet connectivity and zips ( big time ) ... with serious regen once on the one pedal system
Nice informative video, with more technical details and numbers. 👍 Thinking about Citroën Ami as a viable option to get when my daughter gets older, but a lot can happen from ityer brands in 5 years. Seeing it arround the riviera is well and nice, I am more curious about how it will perform in winter. Temperature inside, defrosting and defogging windows. Adding axillary heater to heat up while connected, before driving, to start warm with full battery. Our longest semi regular trip is about 75 km one way, the given range for Ami, is just in that neighbourhood, then we have to add some detours to avoid roads with minimum speed limits. Would be interesting to know if it would be possible to add an extra 48 V battery pack, in parallel for range. If we could realistically do that trip in any weather.
It's difficult to tell how we'd get on with it in the uk I live and working the same town 3 mile round trip and only need for work, this would be ideal all downhill in the morning at 6am but come back with a but of a hill on the way home so a little worried about doing about 20mph and being a pain! It would be helpful if citroen would let you test drive in your area as its just a bit of a gamble
@@MeandMonAmi to be secure, I started with 73 km of autonomy, climb over many hills with up and downs, ended at around 600 meters with 41 km autonomy, then driven to go to free loading station. Driving down 400 meters and 100 meters up, after that distance of 15 km, I lost only 12 km autonomy. So my result was I drive more then 9 kilometers with the same autonomy of 41 kilometers. And that was very impressive for me. At the end if was at 29 km autonomy, but our regions is up and down. But I calculate the trip-kilometers and can say I reached with one loading of the accumulator around 69 km. Because, some km I drive stop and go in the city, and I drive between 15 and 20 % more kilometers then autonomy lost. So I see - stop and go is the best and try to let them roll when you drive downhill. My Rocks-e rolls downhill without brakes 18 kmh, so I let him recharge his battery.
That's quite impressive. I wonder if it's worth having a regenerative system at all. The weight and inefficiency of the system might be outweighed by a greater range without it. You would still be coasting downhill.
Really interesting. when I hopefully get mine soon in Uk I live on a route to Eastbourne where you do a lot of up and down over an 8 mile ‘trajet’ so may benefit too - a valuable insight too Thanks for wetting my expectations. Currently debating purchase on Côte d’Azur studio … Bill in Sussex byeeee!
Good evening guys, what a pleasant surprise on a Wednesday night. France does not have a roadside assistance organization such as, for example, in the Netherlands or Germany. It is not allowed to have an electric car towed because that will cause damage. Who can you call in case of problems or a flat tire? And is that possible 24 hours? Enjoyed your adventure very much. Nice week!
Interesting video really informative! In answer to the question of breakdown, we have assistance in our insurance, here in .France. We also have a Peugeot e 208, with Peugeot assistance. When we had a flat tire, they came and picked up the car on a low loader! Getting used to our Ami only had it a week now, but getting used to it, have a rear view mirror now, and anti fog wipe, also thinking on of a windscreen sun shield, and some seat cushions!
range estimates in electric cars aren't really an indicator of how far a car can go. my Nissan Leaf will either say it can do 55km or 100km at the same battery percentage, depending on how it was driven previously. unfortunately, the Ami doesn't have an accurate display of state of charge.
Hi from Spain. We live at 2700 ft AMSL. Our nearest town is 14km away so I'm not sure whether we'd make a round trip without recharging somewhere. Question, are the exterior lights on automatically? Can you turn them off when moving to save battery?
downhill I won 30 % autonomy, when I drive 15 km, it cost me only 12 km of autonomy. I can say, every 100 meters downhill you will win 1 km of autonomy
Another very good Video. The only thing that annoyed me was, you didn't go for something to eat. Ha! Ha! Just kidding. I was a Journalist for some years before I had to pack it in for Medical Reasons. (That was when I studied to become a Paranormal Investigator) I made a lot of Friends and Contacts as a journalist. I sent a very important e-mail to a certain Contact and might have some great news for you within the next two weeks.
Thanks for this video, range and top speed are my two biggest concerns with this EV and the video has helped me, I have a 14km commute to work with a steepish climb for the last 5km, nothing compared to your video tho! I was hoping to get two trips to work and back on a charge 58km? Also does it go over the limited 45kph downhill, I’ve seen a video where the company who makes the battery removed the limiter and it is capable of around 65kph, some of the road a go in have a 65kph limit so hopefully in the future a remap company can remove it
Is it easy/expensive to insure your ami? Do i have to name any drivers? Am also in south France w steep hills and enjoyed your autonomy/endurance video. Trying to persuade my husband its a good idea😂 just want it for local shopping outings. What is the charging card you mentioned? So far i have paid the deposit and hope i have done the right thing! Any help WELCOME pleeeeease !
It's not possible to have more electricity left in your battery at arrival than when you left. That would have made your car the worlds first infinity machine
@@MeandMonAmi Yep, if you're waiting in traffic, can anyone get into the car? Or does it just open from inside once you're inside? Nice videos btw, I love your chemistry between the two of you!
so basically going up the hill and down the hill will cost you almost exactly what it should. You started not with 41 kilometers on the battery but with (well, you mention it a bit late, but ....) 71 km on the batteries. (at the beginning of the journey).((Since you already drove a bit and mentioned this 71 a bit late, i assume you might have started with something like 72 or even 73?)) When you got up there, 12 km distance, 30/31/32 km were gone. You regained 4. So that makes it roughly 26/27/28 km gone from the battery. And the round trip was roughly 24 km, right? So basically you used the same amount as you would if you were to drive on a flat road. Rougly. Not bad. Maybe with a bit of practice you can regenerate even more and perhaps use a bit less power going uphill...... thereby actually gaining a mile of range.....Maybe. Anyway, nice video. My Move Vigorous doesnt regenerate anything. It runs freely when you let go of the accelerator. As if the engine somehow disconnects. Wish it would regenerate because i would practice on using as little as possible going up, and regaining as much as possible going down.
@@MeandMonAmi I agree that it is impressive. It would be more impressive if you actually gained a bit of autonomy, but that would be the same as Free Energy. And that seems to be impossible. So yeah, obviously it is impressive that you gained what you lost. Without such system (like with my Move Vigorous trike electric mobile spacemobile) you will run out of autonomy much faster. Thanks for the nice vids, keep em coming. Its fun to see you guys enjoy this little car. I am really starting to think i should get one myself, but in the Netherlands it is not a very good idea. Way too many ldiotas.

@@MeandMonAmi I think your probably right they maybe needed to have a top speed of 30mph or a overrun to power it up to 28mph
my last trip was 87 km and more the 800 meters up
That’s very good. How much autonomy left at the end?
But if you were coasting with the motor disengaged then the level of control is affected
You wouldn't have to coast.
I think it probably doesn't have regenerative braking. The battery would add a few Kms as it rests.
Super
Thanks Didi
my favorite game in my Nissan ENV 200 is to see how much i can get back, the best ive got is 14 miles back in the battery .
How do you play it? I can’t work out whether braking helps or stopping hitting acceleration further from lights etc helps??
Really interesting. when I hopefully get mine soon in Uk I live on a route to Eastbourne where you do a lot of up and down over an 8 mile ‘trajet’ so may benefit too - a valuable insight too Thanks for wetting my expectations. Currently debating purchase on Côte d’Azur studio … Bill in Sussex byeeee!
Thanks Bill. Now I understand you want to buy the studio! Are you set on Eze?
@@MeandMonAmi that’s the idea Ian hopefully talking to agents tomorrow …
Depends on whether dogs are accepted …
You have another hot tip as a location then ?
I feel an imminent offer coming on !!
hi great video.. can i ask how download the hill?? with neutral or in drive position
Thanks. Just ‘drive’ as normal..
Nice week!
Thanks Alex. I didn’t know that re towing electric cars. I guess we’d need a low loader?
Interesting video really informative! In answer to the question of breakdown, we have assistance in our insurance, here in .France. We also have a Peugeot e 208, with Peugeot assistance. When we had a flat tire, they came and picked up the car on a low loader! Getting used to our Ami only had it a week now, but getting used to it, have a rear view mirror now, and anti fog wipe, also thinking on of a windscreen sun shield, and some seat cushions!
@@keithclarke7954 Thanks Keith. I suspect we’d need a low loader too. We got a suction rear view (as they say) and it’s great.
Another thing, I notice you seem to have hyper-speed. Is this a real-world thing? 😀
Only Elton goes THAT fast!
range estimates in electric cars aren't really an indicator of how far a car can go. my Nissan Leaf will either say it can do 55km or 100km at the same battery percentage, depending on how it was driven previously. unfortunately, the Ami doesn't have an accurate display of state of charge.
The range on the level at normal temps is remarkably accurate though. I was surprised
Hi from Spain. We live at 2700 ft AMSL. Our nearest town is 14km away so I'm not sure whether we'd make a round trip without recharging somewhere.
Question, are the exterior lights on automatically? Can you turn them off when moving to save battery?
On automatically but I think they are powered by 12v battery so don’t have major impact on overall range
downhill I won 30 % autonomy, when I drive 15 km, it cost me only 12 km of autonomy. I can say, every 100 meters downhill you will win 1 km of autonomy
I think from our calculation it’s 1km every 500m but my maths may be dodgy
Another very good Video. The only thing that annoyed me was, you didn't go for something to eat. Ha! Ha! Just kidding. I was a Journalist for some years before I had to pack it in for Medical Reasons. (That was when I studied to become a Paranormal Investigator) I made a lot of Friends and Contacts as a journalist. I sent a very important e-mail to a certain Contact and might have some great news for you within the next two weeks.
Thanks Jamie
Thanks for this video, range and top speed are my two biggest concerns with this EV and the video has helped me, I have a 14km commute to work with a steepish climb for the last 5km, nothing compared to your video tho!
I was hoping to get two trips to work and back on a charge 58km? Also does it go over the limited 45kph downhill, I’ve seen a video where the company who makes the battery removed the limiter and it is capable of around 65kph, some of the road a go in have a 65kph limit so hopefully in the future a remap company can remove it
I think you would be fine (though air temp will affect battery duration). I imagine it could be de limited but that would reduce range…
Check out our latest video which might give more insight. Insurance isn’t a problem and not too expensive.
Please tell price of this vehicle.
About £7000
The "regen" only happens when you step on the brake or exceed the 45 kph the car is limited to?
Good question. I think both but much more noticeable when going downhill
It's not possible to have more electricity left in your battery at arrival than when you left. That would have made your car the worlds first infinity machine
We didn’t. Watch again.
24 km journey and using 26 km of range that is pretty good, with no other ev’s when you drive top speed you will get that number…
How interesting I’ve no experience of other EV’s so good info
Normally with an EV the marketed range minus 1/3 is the real world range if you drive sensible. So 300km is more like 200km in reality.
When you're inside the car, does the ami locks itself from outside? Or anyone can open it when you're at a traffic light?
You saying we might get car jacked?
@@MeandMonAmi Yep, if you're waiting in traffic, can anyone get into the car? Or does it just open from inside once you're inside? Nice videos btw, I love your chemistry between the two of you!
@@santiagocarlin9130 Thanks. You could lock it from inside via the window I think..
seeing all the cars passing you. makes me feel glad that my wish for these cars to be made legal in my country is not coming true
just the other day this school bus was stuck behind this idiot cycling on a main road. Creating a giant traffic behind him
We love ours
@@MeandMonAmi yeah built your happiness on top the drivers’ in the rear’s misery. Haha.
Well.let.s.imagine..if.motor belt.we.get.out.......yes.Suppper.neodimium.magnet.BLDS.motor.
Yes....La Viva.France.....
Respect.
so basically going up the hill and down the hill will cost you almost exactly what it should.
You started not with 41 kilometers on the battery but with (well, you mention it a bit late, but ....) 71 km on the batteries. (at the beginning of the journey).((Since you already drove a bit and mentioned this 71 a bit late, i assume you might have started with something like 72 or even 73?))
When you got up there, 12 km distance, 30/31/32 km were gone.
I think the regen is way more impressive than I expected. And it’s fun to do!
I want the ami to launch in india
