    10:40:47 To clarify: Hello Future Me had made a video very critical of a plot line in Legend of Korra, and he was remarking that he normally doesn't make videos on bad stories; he prefers making videos about good storytelling and being critical exhausted him, leading to the remark, "I don't know how people are able to do 3-hour takedowns of Star Wars on this channel". That's the context; he was saying that you must have a much greater stomach for being critical than he has.
    So... yeah; he was just saying you clearly are able to better handle talking about the negatives of a piece of media than he is. Sorry I failed to get that across in the superchat, but I only had so many letters available.

    I agree with Rags talking about Nazis, look at Daryl Davis befriending KKK members and changing their minds. If we just assume that Nazis are insane, it takes away any chance to bring them over to our way of thinking. It’s also a really dangerous mindset to assume that people you disagree with are crazy and totally irrational, while saying that about Nazis seems ok, when you start saying that about opposing political parties, you start eliminating the chance for any dialogue and discussion.

      Ever heard of Alan Turing and his chemical castration and estrogen therapy (in lieu of imprisonment) for being gay? That was in the fifties, somewhat after the hun menace has been dealt with.
      The whole point is that everyone loves to pretend that only the nazis were racist assholes who also hated the big gay, but conveniently ignore the winners.

      @grandarkfang_1482 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@Soridan I don't know where you got this idea that everyone "ignores the winners" when it comes to war. If you've checked the news in a decade or two, people are always complaining about how terrible America was to non-whites and gay/trans people.
      But that was the past. This is now. We can complain about the past all we want, but that won't change our future.

    • @Soridan
      @Soridan 4 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      @@grandarkfang_1482 Because by winners I don't mean the USA, since they're only one country out of the whole bunch. In general the Allies get overlooked when it comes to discussions of WW2 atrocities and Axis politics (including interwar and postwar policies and sentiments), no matter if those might have been present on the Allies' side too.
      America does have an unhealthy obsession with racism but they focus mostly on a sensationalist black-centered version of it ignoring the rest.
      The modern screeching about "problematic" issues doesn't come into play in this context and is quite frankly just ignorant histrionics.
      But whatever, I don't really have a horse in this race. I merely find it interesting how moral grandstanding wears blindfolds.
      Btw my people were enslaved, borderline genocided, our children stolen and raised as soldiers against us yet our people are friendly towards each other in modern days. So you don't need to tell me about moving on, guilt tripping others over centuries old grievances is a hobby for bored, rich, westerners.

    If you just write modern Nazis off as "crazy," you won't understand why they believe what they believe, or how they got to that point.
    If you don't understand them (or don't even bother to try), you won't be able to talk them out of their beliefs, and you won't know how to stop others from joining their ranks.

    • @guyguyson8939
      @guyguyson8939 4 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      This whole fucking endless argument stems solely from a false conflation created by semantic vagueness. Quality, as in what you personally arbitrarily value as good and bad, is absolutely subjective. Quality, as in the level to which your work successfully meets an arbitrarily selected set of criteria/value system of good and bad, is objectively measurable through observations and logical deduction. Nothing is objectively good, but stories can be objectively proven to make no sense, and if your value system is "things that make no sense are bad" it's objectively bad according to that arbitrary value system. And this means people who like TLJ are philistines who don't pay attention to the plot and only care about superficial elements. They're allowed to like it, but they're not allowed to like it because it has a plot that makes sense because it objectively DOESN'T.

    Regarding the Black Widow argument. She was a highly trained Soviet agent. The best of the best. However, she did not have the super soldier serum. If she did then she would’ve had a much easier time taking on the Winter Soldier.

    • @rustledentity5511
      @rustledentity5511 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Well canon is odd about how it treats the super soldier serum. It has like a million different variants that make you special, but not as great as Captain America. It was a big deal for a long time that Nick Fury (the original white version) had a serum that enhanced his abilities and stopped him from aging, but it wasn't permanent like Captain America's and he had to re-administer it to keep the effects going. And there were some versions of Black Widow where she was a child during WW2, having been rescued by Steve Rogers no less, and she's still young like 70 years later because of her enhancements. The movie version is not enhanced, but there are comic book stories where Black Widow is super old, but is kept young because she's using something similar to what Nick Fury had.

    2:20:00 Yeah, Hawkeye as a "regular human" has superhuman accuracy and strength. While not touched on in the movies, his bow is supposed to have a draw-weight over 250 lbs. and he can hold that arrow to aim. For reference, a warbow would be between 80-150 lbs. and holding those while aiming drains you fast. There are very few people who have pushed their limits to 180 lbs. bows.

    I think Mauler's sin would be Envy, but not in the traditional sense. He looks up to people with high standards, who adhere to a strong code of conduct/morals, and he's always trying to emulate the qualities in others that he believes are right. While that's not really "sinful" in the sense of "you've done something naughty!", it's as close as Mauler gets to any of the Seven Deadly Sins. INSIDE THE MIND OF MovieBob (55:00)
    Decoded/Translated:
    Movie Bob is unyielding in his view of ‘Feminism’. So what he’s saying is ‘Turning women against each other damages feminism’ so he dislikes someone making a statement that makes one feminist movie oppose another, he believes that they both should unify. Having two feminist driven art pieces be compared and one being painted in a bad light as a result (even if it praises the other one) is sacrilege to him.
    He also can’t accept someone who is leftwing/blue criticising a piece of feminism so he tries to disarm it by claiming that they’re intending on making it a DC v Marvel issue.
    Bobs opinions, are the equivalent of someone telling you a punchline without giving you the joke. It makes sense to him, but to anyone else without the context, they will have no fucking idea what he’s talking about. He’s also wrong in what he’s saying too, completely. Basically, movie bob is a pussy when it comes to opinions, he makes a vague statement that he disguises with an excessive and unnecessary use of words to make it sound like it has more depth, and when someone challenges him on what he has said he deflects and backs out and changes what he was saying by talking about two things at once.
    It’s like RalphTheMovieMakers take on Joker, by not having any structure to your point and criticism, it’s hard to respond to because they aren’t explaining their criticism. Movie Bob doesn’t explain his opinions so he can’t be proven wrong. His brain vomits various thoughts and observations he has, and because no one can make sense of his vomit, he believes that makes him superior and right. That’s why he doesn’t want to debate you guys on the last Jedi, because he doesn’t want to his opinions challenged on a platform and be cornered on something he believes in because he doesn’t want to be proven wrong.

    The reason Kryptonians could not fly on Krypton is because of their red sun. Earth’s sun is younger, yellow, and more powerful. This was explored in Man of Steel.

    • @rustledentity5511
      @rustledentity5511 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Red suns are stars that are on the decline, and close to the end of their life cycle, that much is true. The issue I have with that logic is that the writers don't seem to understand that solar energy is still solar energy. If Kryptonians are made stronger by access to solar light, then all types of solar light should make them stronger. All you'd really be able to hand wave with a red sun is that the people of Krypton were weaker than Superman, because the quality of their solar light was weaker. They'd still be super human, even with a red sun.
      We're also getting into the issue of how these were a space faring people, so surely they had traveled to other planets where they had access to yellow suns. We've seen with Superman that with access to our sun's energy, he can fight super villains, gods, lift millions of tons, and travel at light speed or even faster than light speed. All of that is depending on the writer of course, but even at his weakest Superman is a fighter to be feared. If even a few thousand Kryptonians had access to yellow sunlight, based on what we see Superman do, then they would never have gone extinct. It's even a bit goofy that they were so advanced, capable of making a ship that could travel to Earth, and yet they weren't able to simply escape on generation ships. It comes off as sloppy writing to me.

Labeling an entire group as “crazy” rather than “incorrect” is a pretty harmful way of looking at things. King Edward "Longshanks" I, Hammer of the Scots, Lord of Wales and King of England There’s so many ways to prove it flawed but an easy one is just this: is a Nazi who served in the military as infantry fighting communism crazy? Is a Nazi employed janitor crazy? Or a teenager who’s being taught propaganda in a school?
      He’s acting as if they have no reason to feel the way they do, when they have a reason it’s just a wrong one. He’s forgetting that after WWI Germany was treated very badly and that gave Hitler an easy rise to power. Throw in some patriotism and propaganda, and you have the Nazis. People can disagree with them (which they should), but there’s too many exceptions to label them all as crazy. Also, their entire party wasn’t based purely on hating Jews, they also hated communism after all.

    Good things about TFA:
    1: Finn's transformation from faceless stormtrooper to human with emotions and feelings... Whiiich is fucked by killing Stormtroopers and whooping.
    2: Finn and Poe's interactions, they're great together, a good mix of comedy and seriousness, with some potential later for "Oh shit, my new only friend killed my old friend"... Then nothing came of that, and they split up because Poe fucking explodes. And survives it somehow.
    3: the entire introduction to Rey is actually really well done for a while. Nice and silent, gives us an understanding of her life, especially when she sees the old woman cleaning stuff... Not even much I can "But later" about, beyond "It sets her up to not be so altruistic".
    4: the fight scene where Rey fends off 2 thugs with a staff. She struggles, but it's reasonable to suggest she can fight to that degree... As opposed to the war God she becomes later.
    6: the bit where Han says "It's all true" is a great way to show how the OT changed his character, and a nice callback. Shame about... Every other scene with him.
    Bonus 6: A HELL of a great ending, SO much suspense and intrigue!... I don't even need to say why that one isn't that good, do I?
    Also I really like Adam Driver and John Boyega. They were wasted.
    In conclusion: man, they had some really good early things. I can totally see how people could see that, and have a positive mood for the rest of the movie that lets them ignore the later issues.
    TFA had potential. And that... Really is disappointing.

    In the comics, Black Widow has something spun off from Captain America's super-soldier serum. Nick Fury has it too. Called the "Infinity Formula".
    If I remember correctly, it doesn't amplify abilities, per se. But allows for greatly enhanced maintenance of peak abilities, recuperative capacity, and greatly increases longevity.
    It was essentially a kind of retcon to explain how Nick Fury and Black widow could still be in great health and faculty. Given that Fury served in WW II, and Black Widow served the KGB during the Cold War.
    🤔

      Exactly, Calling someone crazy only further drives them into believing whatever fabrication they have weaved in their mind.

    6:02:00 I would say flat earthers are the line where you cross from peculiar to insane, but I'm willing to believe that some of them simply need to get a crash course on physics to snap out of it. Some of them probably need a psychiatrist and should rightfully be classified as insane.

    Black widow is effectively a super hero, like hawk eye, they both possess super human levels of talent that no human can possess.
