      Nikolaj Rømer it’s a double edge sword. I think it looks really good, and provides a lot of hiding space for the fish, but it does indeed take up roughly 75-80 gallons of water volume. I have been seriously considering removing it for that reason.

    Some of those males are absolutely perfect but the one i want and have been looking for myself as a mature adult is the fossocromis rostratus yours is again perfect. Tank is great but the background not sure i like it I've been looking at them and i like them but if i get one i want one that's on the thinner side i know it's weird to say but the tank doesn't look like a 300 gallon tank and it must be the background. But i still love you're tank as far as stocking for aggression i agree with that but it does look a little crowded so much so I've decided not to go as much as i thought i was going to. Sometimes it helps to see what it looks like first so thanks for that. Take care and god bless.

    • @Jetblink619
      @Jetblink619  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      These bigger “massive rock” backgrounds are very impressive in person and provides plenty of hiding places. Draw back of course is the volume of space they do take up! Double edge sword.

  • @ritabeitz9598
    @ritabeitz9598 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    From the information I have read, mbunas like less light and tend to hide in the rocks. Since you only have a few, I am sure the light set up you have doesn’t matter. But I have found that since I have an all mbuna tank, the fish are happiest with less lighting. I personally also think that when you “overstock” a tank, the ratio is as follows. For every 1 inch of fish, per gallon times 2. Meaning that for every one inch fish, you can have twice that in fish per each gallon. So for fish that are average 6 inches in your tank, that translates to 6 times 60 which is 360 gallons, times two would be maybe 110 fish, and you are certainly under that range. So, with that estimate, you are within the range of a healthy over stocked aquarium. If 6 inches is your average. That is my two cents.

      Never check it anymore, no need to. My tap PH is only around 7.4.
      GH and KH were also low but has been a while since I have tested. Check out my other videos if you get a chance....such as the “maintenance Free Free Self Sustaining Tank” video.

      @@andrewgetty9478 Some will say yes for African cichlids, my answer is no. Here are my reasons:
      A stable PH/KH/GH etc is the key. I don’t chase water parameters. I leave them as is and don’t make adjustments. A long time ago I use to do that, and 30 years of keeping African cichlids, I learned that is not the way to go. A stable environment is a thriving environment. I use this philosophy in 27 of my freshwater tanks, all with rewarding results.
      Each hobbyist has to do what works best for them, and this is how I do it. 👍

      @@andrewgetty9478 If you are concerned about the pH differential then I would acclimate the fish. There are many ways to do it but I would recommend floating the bag in the tank water to achieve the same temp and put small amounts of tank water into the bag every 5 mins or so for 15-20 minutes
