I know many people don't see this as an "Authentic" Final Fantasy Game but, sheesh this game was awesome back in the day and still is. Has one of the Best OST's on the SNES.
it doesn’t matter. just call it “Mystic Quest” like most people if it’s not “Final Fantasy” enough. people trying to gatekeep content is so weird to me. not you, OP, the people you’re talking about
The music is amazing and the colors are so good! I also like how the areas change once you get the crystal. I used to rent this game(and FF3/6) every weekend when I was a kid. Fun fact: If you finish a battleground that offers experience you can gain 2 levels and a slight increase to weapon power. Example: Finish a Battleground that offers 100xp and you need less than that to level, you get a level after beating it and then immediately gain another level. Each level adds +2 to weapon power(excluding bombs), but if you do the 2 levels from a battleground you'll gain +5 power to weapons instead of +4.
If I recall, you still need the XP from that free level to go to the next one, so your XP curve is the same; you just get a slight advantage for a little bit.
@@Slain087 You're right! I never noticed that. I just tested this and sure enough it added the xp needed from the 2nd level gained to the xp needed for the next level up. (at level 6, to get to level 7 normally was about 2.2k xp needed. doing the battle ground trick getting from level 6 to level 7 needed about 4k xp). And I guess you don't get extra attack power either. I thought each level only added +2 to weapons, but it is a +2.5.
my mom randomly rented this for me one day. i didn't make much progress but i still loved it so it holds a huge amount of nostalgia and appreciation from me
*I LOVE THIS GAME ❤, **7:16** For me was so difficult to beat this boss because I was so young that didn't know the game's mechanics hahaha, so much nostalgia rewatching this!*
The only badguy that gave me trouble was Pazuzu. His wing shield is one of the most annoying defenses. Other than that, hit the dark king with a cure spell and it takes him out with one shot!
I think it's a Life spell bug in the US version only where it wrongly works on non-undead enemies. It never worked in mine except for a few enemies like the Flamerus Rex and the white variant.
Is it the worst game ever? No. But it is far from great. As another comment suggested, it might be a good intro to RPGs but that's the best that can be said about it.
I know that Cure does a huge amount of Damage to Dark King due to an Overflow Glitch, but when you think about it, It's actually kinda fitting as it's the final battle and Cure could technically be seen as Benjamin's Limit Break. Battle 2 is still a Legendary track, hands down.
Man I'd really love to get my hands on an HD-2D remake of this game or maybe a remaster with classic mode that keeps the game as it and a hard mode to make it a bit more challenging. Until a couple of years ago an online friend of mine had several hard modes of this game and they were great. Sadly there were a few kinks that he couldn't get rid off, but I still played it a few times and it was good.
It never occurred to me that this guy kills a Behemoth as his first level 1 act in the game, that's pretty impressive The monster names localization is p. good too, the only quirky one I saw was "Iflyte" (ifreet) but they still got "Thanatos" right
Unpopular take, but this was one of my favorite games on the SNES along with the other FF entries. One thing I’m curious about is how does a TAS work on a relatively nondeterministic game? Is there RNG manipulation at play?
i know this is a TAS video but seeing the monster and bosses not doing their real atks and gimmicks and just doing dumb strats kills my mood for the video but the game i love it
It all depends on rng and timing, when you attack or even start a battle. When you do it right you'll go first, if you hit a bad rng spot all enemies go first and so on. Let's say you start a battle exactly at 0.00 seconds and you do it between 0.00 and 0.24 second, you will go first. At 0.25 to 0.49 the enemy will go first, from 0.50 to 0.99 the battle happens normally (for the most part your partner goes first, then the enemies and you'll attack last) Same with crits, regular hits and misses. I'm not 100% sure how it's divided, but that should be the principle of how it works out behind the scenes.
@@Arycke I get what a TAS is, but surely you can't get that far without better equipment right? I'm loving these TAS vids, watching old nemeses as the computer takes no prisoners haha!!

battle theme, boss theme and dark king theme ARE SO FUCKING EPIC !!!!
I genuinely dont care if people dont like it.
Yeah it was super simple. But I still enjoyed it for what it was. It genuinely had a GREAT OST

fun fact, this doesn't actually make you level faster, because all it does is add that XP you needed to hit that level to the level after.

Still one of most underrated final fantasys ever.
Wait.... the first Boss in the forest is fucking UNDEAD?!
Man i would have saved so much trouble if i knew that, good to know in the future lmao
I might try a new game of this!
Yes and also once you get the Life spell it can OHKO like 90% of monsters and bosses in the game, including the last boss.
All these years and I never knew that
I think it's a Life spell bug in the US version only where it wrongly works on non-undead enemies. It never worked in mine except for a few enemies like the Flamerus Rex and the white variant.
I don’t understand why people dislike this game it looks sick
It's a great game. Replayed it recently.
It may not be anywhere close to being the best FF game, but it's still good as an introduction to the turn-based RPG genre.

YES! I love this game!
My first Final Fantasy ♥
If this run is 8 minutes faster than the previous one, it should be able to be further shortened considerably, even though it's been 15 years.
I really love this game's music and its unique mechanics.

I have played this game many times since my childhood and in 2024 I just learned that you can use the Exit spell on monsters lol
Yes, but you get no experience if you do.
My Friend had this game as a kid, and I showed him that you could cure undead and it broke his brain.

Imagine being the last boss only to get rekt by like the first spell of the game.

I'm surprised this didn't do the Fireberg skip.
This run predates knowledge of the Fireburg skip/inventory manipulation glitch by about eight years.

I would love to see a TAS of the german version, it cuts a lot of dialogue and changes monster attributes around.
i really want this on the nintendo switch’s snes online along with soulblazer, illusions of gaia, & terranigma
That name entry: "I am speed!"

This is objectively the best FF game,.
you can use life on the bone dungeon boss to one-shot it
Only in the PAL version.
In the NTSC version it says "No effect" when you do that and nothing happens.
