Fun fact: this is one of the few RPGs that is faster in English! Normally, Japanese text takes less to say what they need, but in gaia, they type it out a character at a time. In the English version, about 80 percent of the text boxes are INSTANT. Needless to say, this saves a lot of time over having the stuff being written out.
This game was amazing for its time. A heavily story driven action RPG with somewhat open exploration that rewarded players greatly for killing all the enemies and exploring all the secrets of the game. Solid puzzles, solid core gameplay, fun bosses, cool powerups.
The Quintet games are all great! Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, and Terranigma. I recommend playing all three if you have the time. Soul Blazer is my favorite!
We all have that one game in our past. That one game we know exists, but struggle to remember, to name or explain. Every few years it would pop back into memory for but a moment before, frustratingly fading once again into obscurity. For me it was Act Raiser.
@@dianak5519 There is Robotrek which is often overlooked and I'm guilty of having done that. I haven't played it yet but I'm going to as soon as I can. Have you played it? If so did you enjoy it?
Man, so many weird plot driven actions were taken in this game, but my favorite's gotta be 44:10: "Yaw, Will just randomly disappeared in a puff of smoke right in front of me. So, uuuh. Let's steal a plane and fly aimlessly around until we see him fall somewhere!".
That's one of the more difficult fights for sure. I learned to just go on the offensive in that fight and make sure to kill one of them as soon as possible, ignoring damage since herbs in this game are plentiful anyway. Once one is down, it's a cakewalk. The 'Pharaoh' boss in the boss rush at the end was annoying since you had to use Shadow. Freedan made that fight a joke the first time around.
Always fun to see an upload of Illusion of Gaia, even if it's almost 15 years old, haha. I believe this would now be called "All Bosses No WW" instead of 100%. Ever since the warp was discovered, the categories have expanded, and the names have changed. There are a lot of tricks that have been found since this video. With the warps, "All Bosses" (which accomplishes the same goal of fighting Solid Arm and then Dark Gaia) is currently down to 2:02:37 on speedrun.com. Rumor has it Le Hulk is working on a new "Any% no WW" TAS as well. :)
All stat upgrades are gotten when you get a boss. With some areas, like the mountain temple, it's probably not the best idea, since there isn't a boss, and there's the fact that you'll be taking much more damage and be having less hp. (Damage you do to the boss is based on hp. Will does 1, freedan does 2, shadow does 3. Strength doesn't matter! )
I believe there was a hint that you needed to be Will and play the flute in that room which showed you that tile to stand on. Can't remember where the hint came from though
The only way to reach Gem's mansion, where Solid Arm is located, is to collect all 50. Even with the warps the speedruns have now, you can either warp straight to Solid Arm and your game crashes, or you warp to the beginning of the mansion as Freedan, and you can't progress because you need to use Psycho Slider as Will.

I can't believe I've finally found it, the game i played at a friend's house almost 2 decades ago

@@OneStarRating What about Robotrek?

My friend beat this game one night during a sleepover at his house and when it got to the reveal it blew our minds!
I've loved this game since it came out in 95 ❤

They saw the island in the sky. There' s not many places Will could' ve gotten off.
As a kid I could never beat the two vampires.

Amazing game and tas!

This has to be one of the beefiest RPGs I have ever played as hard as I could, yet still not complete.
Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Lucius Malfoy save the world
Jogging simulator extreme is alive and well
OHHH it's a great game 🤗🤗🤗
estos sonidos de combatebse parecen a los de act raiser
There is an enemy cameo, also. Same studio.
Can this be considered 100% without the status upgrades from killing the enemies?
You automatically get every upgrade once you kill the boss. See how much his health increases at 19:34
@@KorenLesthe Well I learned something new today...instead of running around the whole dungeon for an hour I could just kill the damn boss
I belive you can't call that 100%. He gets the HP that undeniable. But what is about the other 2 stats. DMG & DEF.
@@naitoyoru He gets those as well. Enemies would be taking less damage than the bosses if he didn't also get the damage increases.

I've played Actraiser a lot, and all I can hear are the same sound effects
I was stuck at the 18:39 part, how to open the wall by stepping on those gold plates? Anyone please tell me the way, thank you.

@@chazmakarowski5429 you forgot to mention that you have to GLOW like the tile. Like 10 seconds if I remember well. With the power to break walls
🌟
This game reminds me of Zelda.
What about the Aura Barrier?
Can't the wall break animation be cancelled by diving into the menu? I see speedrunners do this.
This is a re-upload of a 2007 TAS, it's possible that trick wasn't known then.
What time in the video is the thumbnail part?
Looks like 1:08:29
