I am currently Working on a pastel and really struggling with the sky. It helped so much to see your process and even the size sticks you use and the strokes that you make. I haven’t used pastels for a while and I feel very rusty. I love your impressionistic loose style so much! Your paintings are beautiful and your videos are spot on! I recommend you to all my art friends. Thank you so much.
You are so clear and concise! Thanks for sharing your skills!
A little fact I learned when I was first painting skies was obvious to a plein air painter but not when you paint from a photo. That is that the sky starts at the horizon and continues over your head. This is the reason that the colours are more intense at the top. If the values aren't right then you might lose that effect. Bethany gets it dead on ❤
I think you just gave words of wisdom for life in general-things not going your way? Have a brownie. It just might be me and my takeaway though. 😉 I really appreciated your comment that you would give up at the ugly stage and that is definitely my issue. I feel so upset that oh no I can’t do this. This is my challenge to work on with pastels. Thank you for sharing, it is so helpful and your honesty is appreciated.
Thank you Bethany. I have taken hundreds of photos of clouds and wanted to do a soft pastel but have been a bit challenged as to where to start. Now I know.
That's great!
Brilliant painting and wonderful advice. Amazing advice and lesson from such a humble, talented and gifted artist. Thank you. ❤
Thank you so much! :)
Wow, what a big sized pastel you have...wait your blending! Wait, what...what is that you're blending with? I like how you make the reflections of the trees in water. 🤪
So beautiful! You make me want to give up oil painting and invest in pastels! I wouldn’t even know where to begin!
Bethany, I love your style of painting with pastel! I have learned so much from watching your videos and I thank you!
You are so welcome!
Thnx for this amazing session Mrs Bethany, I'll be painting soon. 🙏🏻
Great! :D
Just love watching you work. I will have to look at my local hardware shop for some of that pipe foam. I have no blending tools to date except fingers and another hard pastel.
Go for it!
Beautiful painting.
Thank you so much 😀
Love your paintings, and thank you for sharing. Would you consider doing a live demo?
I do lots of live demos for my Patreon channel here: patreon.com/bethanyfields - I'll consider doing one for TH-cam. We'll see! :D Thank you for asking.
Great demo! Thank you for fabulous instructions! 😎🎉🥰
Gorgeous! Thank you
Thank you, too!

J adore le pastel j adore ce que vous faites j adore les ciels et faire des nuages❤❤
Stunning! Absolutely beautiful! I love your paintings, lessons, and painting style. I try to apply your tips, though I usually use oil pastels! Thank you!😊😊👏👏👏
Wonderful!
Beautiful!
Thank you!
Love your work Bethany your very inspireing.
Thank you so much!
Merci 🙏 merci
Thank you for this video! I have several questions though. Why do you use alcohol instead of just water? And what material do you blend with?
Alcohol dries faster! Can use both though.
What is the "mystery pastel"? I love the color. Is that a NuPastel? Enjoying your videos, thank you.
This isn't painting, this is drawing. I kept waiting for the painting to begin 😂 then when you referred to it as painting, I knew I was in the wrong video.
Technically, a drawing has much of the support (paper or canvas) showing through without being covered by pigment. A painting has the full support covered with pigment so yes, this is a painting. :) Thanks for the comment!
This vid is FULL of nuggets for pastel artist
Thank you!
