All this time I thought Heath died after he won a few awards prior to the Oscars, but I was one year off... Now I'm sad he didn't get to see the level of public appreciation for this movie...
Health-28 Jared Leto-44 Jaquin Phoniex-45 Jack Nicholson-51 Ages of all the actors when they played joker- Do I need to say now who was the BESTEST joker all of times?:) The Youngest with the least experience in COMPARISON to all jokers but still the BEST♡
Totally agree with you. Admittedly the film was probably more hyped and anticipated after he died, but every accolade and award and any praise he's gotten since, is for the incredible performance he gave, without any semblance of pity. Tragic death or not; one of the greatest performances in modern cinema.
The Greatest Actor ever . what a performances in The Dark Knight , Brokeback Mountain , Candy , Monsters Ball , 10 Things i Hate About You and in The Patriot . Heath as a Human Being and As an actor way ahead of his time . and still can't believe at just age of 28 he pulled off the performance of The Joker . Michael caine called Heath Ledger's performance as the joker in the dark knight as the Greatest Acting Performance of all time in the History of world Cinema and Matt Damon called him that He is the best actor he has ever work with .
Heath greatest actor of his generation. He deserved the Oscar for Broke Back Mountain and he deserves the Oscar for this movie. I fell in love with him in A Knights Tale. He will never be forgotten.
2024: RDJ win first Bafta Awards before Academy awards with new Movie Christopher Nolan Ps. HEATH LEDGER always The Best Joker Ever by The Dark Knight "Heath Ledger" (respect you).😢😔💚💜
Web though he won best supporting actor, there is no doubt that he was the star of The Dark Knight. The best acting performance I have ever seen... RIP
Thanks so much for posting this! I'm so thrilled Heath won and I was touched by Goldie's heartfelt response - Charles Roven's speech was beautiful... Heath truly was one of a kind...
kt4936, the awards are to honour and respect him and to recognise his acting abilities, just because he's is dead doesn't mean he is unable to be nominated or win an awarded. he was an artist, and you can admire art forever, it's talant.
Totally agree with you. I wasn't expecting much before i watched the movie, and i was really shocked by his amazing performance. he deserves the awards, and I think Dark Knight deserves more oscars, but I've heard that the academy never has much interest in an action movie. Don't know if that's true. But I think this Batman movie is not solely just action.
Yeah, that was a really nice moment. Some people seem to think these are pity awards but I'm pretty sure he'd be getting the same amount of recognition if he were still alive. His Dark Knight performance was simply unforgettable.
Heath Ledger deserve much congratulations for his amazing job interpreting the joker. Jack Nicholson(The 2nd Joker )must be scary with his performace. I'll never forget about everything he did in "The Dark Knight" Rest In Peace Ledger!!!
I hope he wins the Oscar too, not because "He-died-let's-give-him-all-the-honors-now" but because his performance as the Joker was great, better than the other nominees
The death of Heath may have given it a little hype but it really was one of the best movies of the year and i wouldnt want to see the jokers character performed in any other way. If you still think it was just hype than explain how theyre going to top this sequel with the next addition to the series. and without Heath...
You're right about that. He will become a legendary villain. The first comic book character to ever win an oscar. My favorite villains of all time are Hannibal Lecture, Darth Vader, Anton(no country for old men), and The Joker.
Don't generalize, please people! Not all Christians believe the role of the Joker turned Heath to a dark place, and it's not fair to accuse everyone of a thing that just a few (most likely the loudest) say. I'm a Christian, and I don't believe it. Heath was a professional actor, and an extremely good one at that. Of course he was able to seperate his personal life from his work. Believing anything else would be a shame to his memory. RIP Heath.
I really miss Heath..he totally deserved that award and he also deserves the oscar(whether he'll actually win it or not) we'll always love you Heath....
I think it's automatic he will win the Oscar, his performance was miles above any of the nominees. It is a good thing he was not nominated for best actor though as Mickey was better then him.
It's quite moving that Goldie got so choked up reading Heath's name...I'm heartbroken over his death & I didn't even know him. I wish the camera would steer clear of Angelina Jolie's haughty face...it almost ruined this tender moment.
Omg you people are so annoying. show some respect for the dead. he was and still is an amazing actor and could play any part given to him. he deserved it and all of the other awards he got. just because your to shallow to accept he will always be loved all over the world. hes a LEGEND!
Urban legend: Jack Palance(057-12-2514)erroneously read Marisa Tomei for Best Supporting Actress in Jonathan Lynn-directed “My Cousin Vinny”- last film for Fred Gwynne(158-22-6996)-at 65th Oscars. Heath Ledger became 1st person to posthumously win supporting role acting Oscar in at 81st Oscars for his Joker in “The Dark Knight” vs. Josh Brolin for “Milk”; Robert Downey, Jr. as Kirk Lazarus in “Tropic Thunder”; Michael Shannon’s John Givings("Revoluntionary Road"); Philip Seymour Hoffman(“Doubt”)
Some films originated on the stage and when adapted to film the characters are played by different actors. Some films are based on real people. Are saying that if an actor has the chance to base their performance on a person (fictional or not) or a character that has been portrayed before they don't deserve an award/nomination? Urban legend says “City Slickers” star Jack Palance(057-12-2514)erroneously read Marisa Tomei as Best Supporting Actress for “My Cousin Vinny” at 65th Academy Awards, hosted by Billy Crystal. Palance died 11/10/06-28th b’day of Eve Jeffers;&29th of Brittany Murphy-Monjack(151-70-0656), who as Molly, fears Neal will smother her in “Uptown Girls”. rip heath.. :( you totally deserved this and all the other awards..the oscar also belongs to you whether you'll actually win it or not. who's the man who cries at 1:23??
Agreed...insiders are saying that Ledger will win not only because his Joker turn was genius, but because the Academy should of given Heath the Oscar for Brokeback Mountain instead of Philip Seymour Hoffman for Capote. I still cannot believe PSH won, but that year was fucked up: Brokeback lost Best Picture to Crash(!!) even though BM Ang Lee won Best Director. Funny that Heath & PSH are up for Best Supporting Actor this year.
I know. I mean BM got a BAFTA for best picture and also Jake got best supporting actor. Somehow Heath, who really is the heart of the movie walks away with nothing. It's always funny how that type of thing happens.
Jack Nicholson actually told Heath not to method act the Joker. He said there was no way in hell someone could method act the Joker and live. He actually tried it for Tim Burton's movie, but he noticed how crazy it was making him, so he said to Heath "DO NOT method act this character."
Heath Ledger was always my faviroute actor. so fuck all the people saying he deserved to die. He was and will always be a LEDGEND! he was incredible in the dark night and is a one of a kind actor. RIP
Only supporting actor who won an oscar, a golden globes, bafta, australian best actor award and other 20+awards fr a single character respect thiz man
It's so painful when the woman announcing the award chokes up when she says his name
bunny "The woman" lol is frikkin Goldie Hawn
More like super phony
Heath's role was so much better than Robert's. I can't think of anyone that could have play the joker part better.
"we are tonight's entertainment."
Yes, Heath, you were.
RIP
All this time I thought Heath died after he won a few awards prior to the Oscars, but I was one year off... Now I'm sad he didn't get to see the level of public appreciation for this movie...
The presenter seemed about to cry when she announced the award too. I was touched too. Heath deserves it. He is a good man and a great actor.

Damn it.
He made the role of his life...He won in almost EVERY SINGLE AWARD CEREMONY for his role!
And he wasn't able to live it...
