At 1:40, if you get a 5 and a 4 for example, you have a third option, right? Which is to take another pawn out of the box with the 5, and then move any of the pieces 4 spaces... Is that correct? Thanks
We played this for hours when we were kids, but you had to roll a 1 to leave base (not a 5) and I never heard of the 20 space bonus. Sometimes we'd play with only one die, took forever!
At 3:25, so what happens if you roll the exact number and you piece is to move into an occupied safe space? You will just share that space? Will you stop just before it? Or will you not move at all?
I'm our home you have to roll a solid 6 before you could be hatched or get out of your starting block. Ever time you roll a solid 6, you get to roll again. You cannot roll again even if you roll a double unless it's a solid six. Also after you capture a piece, you do not get to move any further than the space you captured on unless you rolled a solid six. There are no safety spaces unless you are double up on a space outside of your end entry blocks.
What happens with the doubles bonus if I already have pawns inside home? Let's say I have 3 pawns home and roll doubles can I move the only remaining pawn the 14 spaces?
some versions of the game, similar to these instructions, dont have that rule. I've seen a variety of games that have had different rules and some that omitted others. Not sure why, it seems that the game just got updated as time went on. I do have a Milton Bradley version of Parts easy that's nice, but I think it has different rules to. When I played as a kid if you were in the red zone, and you rolled over the amount needed, you'd bounce and move backwards. I guess that was just home rules.
I was under the impression if you roll a five and you still have pawns in the starting spot you must move one of them out. What if you roll doubles on the first roll when all four pawns are still in the starting spot and you did not roll a five? Do you roll again?
Yes, you are correct if you roll a five and still have pawns in the starting spot you MUST move one of them out. Yes you roll again if you get a double even if you did not roll a five.
what happens if you're down to your last piece because the other 3 are home, you roll both dice and you get a number that makes that last piece land one space away from home. Do I move the piece one space from home and lock myself out of the game? Or do I skip my turn and wait to go again? Or is there something else that should be done?
I was told that if you are in the home column that you only roll one dice. AND that if you roll a 6 (again, when you can only roll one dice) that it is like rolling doubles and you can roll again. Is that true?

We never got the instructions so we made up our own rules 🤣……..when we captured the opponent piece we would use the 4 dice in your example and add the 6 dice to the 20 spaces granted for capturing……meaning we could move 26 spaces, I think it made it more interesting.
1.U did not tell about 10 extra number when ur pawn enters in Home.. 2.U did not tell about Blockade open rule ..when double appears on dice say 6 6 .u have to open ur blockade. 3.when one player is sitting on safe cell other player can not sit in that safe cell.
Board Game Museum, You are wrong and Naresh Kumar is correct. Even in the old game, the rules are the same. Once a pawn enters home a player gets 10 extra moves on any pawn, assuming the moved piece has the spaces available. In addition, players cannot move a blockade (two pawns together) the seven spaces to maintain a blockade. All of these factors lead to quite a bit of strategy in this great old game. Lastly, in the event of three doubles, one most move the forward most pawn back to home, not just any pawn of choice.
What happens if you roll a double and you capture someones piece sending them back to start? Do you roll again for the double and at the end move 20 free spaces or do you move 20 free spaces for that double then roll again?
I had all three of my red pieces in Home. With my last piece, I got to the last space in the red spaces. You would have to roll a one to get into Home, which is impossible, b/c you have to roll two dice. You are only able to roll snake eyes. So my family said I lost since you have to roll the exact number to get into Home. My rolls were a 1 and a 4, then a 1 and a 5, then a 6 and a 4. I thought I should be able to get in by using the one from a roll, but since I only had one piece left out, they said you have to use all of your roll. They continued to play and rolled exact numbers to get into Home.
As long as you roll a 1 on one of the dice you move that piece home and you win (you disregard what is on the second dice). You basically have two chances to roll at least a 1 on the dice since you are rolling two dice. Your probability is greater.

@@BoardGameMuseumer It's important to note that you always play the game with two dice, without exception. Doing so negatively-alters the roll probability (i.e. you get shorted).
In the version I grew up with, we started out rolling only one die until one of the players got one of their pieces off the starting area, then, once that happened, we would switch to two dice after that and continue the game.
Thanks man, I finally know how to play after only 49 years. One thing that bothers me though. What happens if you're only one square away from the end? You can't roll a one with two dice.
My 1975 Selchow and Righter edition has colored entry points and colored arrows one space before the HOME square for all of the opponents to identify the HOME PATH. At least the three previous editions made by S&C resemble the board that is used in this video, such as the 1964 and 1959 boards I have in my collection. To answer your question, you can pick any space as long as you use the correct home path.
If you are playing partners can you and your partner form a blockade? Also do you have to get your partner out if they are on your safety? Also can you put your partner back and move 20 spaces? Also.....if you roll a 4 and 3 and need 4 to get enemy do you move 23 with that pawn or any pawn? Or move that pawn 20 amd another pawn 3? What if thats the only pawn you have? If there is a blockade, what is the radius? I played it with a 12 space radius so If you moved into it you couldn’t get out unless you rolled more or they moved. Also, can you make a blockade, in a blockade? Thanks
I am a little confused at the "capturing opponent" part. If I roll a 3 and a 4 and he is four spaces away, can I knock him home? Or do you mean _both_ dice must add up to the exact number? It has been eight years, so I'm not sure you'll answer, nevertheless thanks for uploading, a well done video.
Well since it’s not five you can’t take a piece out but if multiple pieces are out then you can move 12 with one piece or 6 with two pieces and then roll again cause it’s a double
Two other questions please: 1) So if there is a blockade ahead of you and you roll a higher number of moves, would you move anyway to just before the blockade or not move at all (effectually losing that turn)? 2) I read in some instructions you also get a 10 (or 20) movement bonus if you get 2 doblets in a row. You did not cover that. Have you heard about this rule? Optional maybe? Thanks
If you are in your opponents starting point and he gets out one you're still safe, but if he gets out another one and there's two of his and one of mine I'm out.
tbis game has few variants. In one variant u can remove enemy pawn when he is sitting at ur entry gate cell.. in other variant ..if enemy pawn is sitting n Ur 2 pawns enter in the game .then enemy pawn will go to back.
1) If you have a single pawn in your opponent's starting point, and he gets out - your pawn will be captured and returned to YOUR starting point even though an opponent's starting point is a safety spot. 2) If you have a blockade on an opponent's starting point, the opponent WILL NOT be able to enter a pawn and be forced to use the roll for as much movement as the roll allows. If all four pawns are in the nest, and a blockade resides on an opponent's starting point, they forfeit their turn because they can't enter any pawns.

I've been looking all over for a comprehensive tutorial. I don't understand how a simple game as this has so many different rules. even the names are different, such as Parchisi, Parcheesi, or Ludo. Which one is it? One version says five to get out another says six. This is ridiculous
No problem dear. The Patent name is Parchessi. With 5 no. u can enter.Local rule may go with 6 but the exact one is 5. Ludo is different from this Parchessi.Ludo is U.K.game whereas Parchessi is U.S.A game.
Board Game Museum: Home Of Classic Board Games Oh, okay, that makes sense. Another solution I thought of was moving backwards to be able to move forward.
Note: the 20-spaces after capture is not in the official rules. It is considered a common "local rule" so as to speed up the game. The rules of capture are very specific. One method not covered here is capturing from single die. For example, an opponent 5 spaces away on a non-safe, non-blocked spot, if you roll nine (6+3=9), you can (a) move through them without capture the full 9 spaces, (b) move 6 spaces placing you 1 space ahead fo them, using the other die , 3, for a different piece, (c) move 3 spaces and placing you 2 spaces behind them, using the other die, 6, on a different piece Same scenario, but now suppose you roll (5+4). The option (a) remains; you can drive past them moving 9 spaces. However, because one of the die is indeed a 5, they are captured by the first-die move before the second (e.g you capture with the 5, then choose to continue the remaining die 4 spaces. You can also obviously move just the 5-die spaces, capture, and use the 4-die on another piece, or move the 4-die spaces leaving you one back of them, using the 5-die on a different piece. The point is, so long as one of the die (or both of the die should you choose that route) has a value that lands you explicitly *on* their space, they're captured unless you explicitly use a configuration that avoids it.
There are also far fewer safe spaces in Sorry, and in Parcheesi you use dice instead of cards. Sorry's cards tell you exactly how many people you get to move, but in Parcheesi, you can choose to split your move between two pieces at any time.
its like stratego with hints of monopoly in the back end. followed by subtle flavors of.. hmm... tastes like chess and.. im getting a slight mancala afterbite
It's WAY more complex, and its complexity becomes readily apparent once you start playing someone who is skilled. When you have a four-player game of skilled players, sometimes the games can last hours. On several instances, we had to take pictures of the game board so we could resume later that day - or even the next day. I remember using a Polaroid camera to do this before the days of cell phones and digital cameras.

You can't move the piece you eat with.
Yenika Leyva what does that mean
Why are there 2 different start points per home space (green @ yellow) and how do you know which one to use?
Board Game Museum: Home Of Classic Board Games Thats the exact board I have..
Robert Clark you always start to your left
This game needs better rules or understanding
My whole family played. 60’s and 70’s.
I remember this game when I was little but I didn't never know how to play it
i came here to check what the game was about after watching a spongebob episode...I havent heard of it either because I am from New Zealand or I'm vert sheltered
Thank you
If I have 3 home already, do I have to play with one dice?
You can go in with one but u roll both
@@BoardGameMuseumer I was told that if you are in the home column that you only roll one dice. AND that if you roll a 6 (again, when you can only roll one dice) that it is like rolling doubles and you can roll again. Is that true?
If there is a blockade, what is the radius? I played it with a 12 space radius so If you moved into it you couldn’t get out unless you rolled more or they moved.
Also, can you make a blockade, in a blockade? Thanks
I am a little confused at the "capturing opponent" part. If I roll a 3 and a 4 and he is four spaces away, can I knock him home? Or do you mean _both_ dice must add up to the exact number?
It has been eight years, so I'm not sure you'll answer, nevertheless thanks for uploading, a well done video.
You can do it either way. You can move 1 pawn 3 and another 4, or you can move 1 pawn 7.
@@BoardGameMuseumer _Thank you!_ Now I can play.
this is not at all what the instructions state and now i’m insanely confused
what to do if we got 6+6
Well since it’s not five you can’t take a piece out but if multiple pieces are out then you can move 12 with one piece or 6 with two pieces and then roll again cause it’s a double
The Dan LeBatard show sent me here.
Thank you! very helpful!
You're welcome!
If there is a blockade and someone eat someone's pawn,it will pass or not?
Two other questions please:
1) So if there is a blockade ahead of you and you roll a higher number of moves, would you move anyway to just before the blockade or not move at all (effectually losing that turn)?
2) I read in some instructions you also get a 10 (or 20) movement bonus if you get 2 doblets in a row. You did not cover that. Have you heard about this rule? Optional maybe?
Thanks
I wonder if Miranda is ready to play
Slenderman
Miranda, we are ready to play Parcheesi !
so its kind of like mensch ärger dich nicht. but with 2 dice and some additional rules.
If you are in your opponents starting point and he gets out one you're still safe, but if he gets out another one and there's two of his and one of mine I'm out.
Yenika Leyva Isi
tbis game has few variants.
On the final stretch to home can you split move 2 pieces or can you only take one home by exact die count?
Board Game Museum: Home Of Classic Board Games I picked up a nice vintage copy at goodwill today for 2.00.We played it fine 3xcept one issue. My wife got one pawn on the last space before home and its impossible to roll a one with 2 dice to get home. How do you avoid doing that?
Board Game Museum: Home Of Classic Board Games Yeah we rolled one die. Getting into home is hard when you only need a low number. We were both near home and just started using one die.All our other pieces were already home at that point.
Board Game Museum: Home Of Classic Board Games Lets say you have a pawn heading home and needs 3 spaces to get there. You roll a 5-3 Can you move the one home with the 3 and another on the board 5?
@@robertclark4929 She would roll both dice and if one of the dice she rolls a "one" she moves her pawn home. Basically she gets 2 chances to roll a one on one of the dice.
@@robertclark4929 That is correct she would move the one home with 3 spaces and another on the board 5. If she only needed a 3 to get home and you had no other pieces to move, just disregard the 5 on the other die
Thx man, never learned how to play it as a kid then got given it as gift for Christmas by my mother as a way to kill time indoors..
Appreciate the video. The instructions provided in the box weren’t exactly as useful as your demo.
My game is older but doesn’t have so many rules and extras
Like using the bottom numbers on the dice you roll on doubles
Lol are you teaching us house rules ?
This is an older version and the rules are a lot different from the more modern ones that I've seen.
Louis Tully brought me here :P
Shrek 2 brought me here!
Isn't this basically Sorry?
Hey Squidward, Parcheesi?
The only way you can block and no one can pass you is when you're in your start and there's two of you there.
+Yenika Leyva According to my box you can put a blockade anywhere. Do your rules say different?
U can make blockade anywhere. But one can have his own playing style like Blockade only at entry point.
Thank you soooo much.
I always heard this was a complicated game. But this is literally just SORRY! for adults. It has all of the same rules essentially
Yeast, that and teouble
How do you get a piece which is one step away from Parcheesi in? It's impossible to get a 1 when you roll two dice.
Board Game Museum: Home Of Classic Board Games Oh, okay, that makes sense. Another solution I thought of was moving backwards to be able to move forward.
No backward will be here.
if any of two dice show 1 number..u can enter with ur last 4th pawn.
Note: the 20-spaces after capture is not in the official rules. It is considered a common "local rule" so as to speed up the game. The rules of capture are very specific. One method not covered here is capturing from single die.
For example, an opponent 5 spaces away on a non-safe, non-blocked spot, if you roll nine (6+3=9), you can (a) move through them without capture the full 9 spaces, (b) move 6 spaces placing you 1 space ahead fo them, using the other die , 3, for a different piece, (c) move 3 spaces and placing you 2 spaces behind them, using the other die, 6, on a different piece
Same scenario, but now suppose you roll (5+4).
Ghostbusters brought me here
who are play this game ?
Why am I here???
It´s 2:49 AM and im wachting this video
The heart break kid movie brought me here I thought this was a made up game ....
Me too lmao
정상숙제땜에 있으신분???
So it's pretty much the game sorry
There are also far fewer safe spaces in Sorry, and in Parcheesi you use dice instead of cards. Sorry's cards tell you exactly how many people you get to move, but in Parcheesi, you can choose to split your move between two pieces at any time.
Actually Sorry is like parcheesi
@@raymondbanks4103What about Trouble?
its like stratego with hints of monopoly in the back end. followed by subtle flavors of.. hmm... tastes like chess and.. im getting a slight mancala afterbite
I love it. Love it. Whoop whoop. LMAO.
The way i play, you can't move with the piece you eat with
What does that mean? You've made this comment at least three times on this thread.
It so fun
Where I’m from,we call it Ludo.
POV you came here from sml
This is pretty much the game sorry lol
