  • Kippa puts the Titleist AVX and Tour Soft balls head-to-head all over the golf course to find out which one he'd put in his bag.

    I recently switched from the ProV1 and ProV1X to the Titleist Tour Soft and love it. It feels like butta coming off my T100 irons. It feels great around the greens and for putts, plus I get distance out of it as well. Bonus, its much less expensive than the other balls. Just an FYI. Thanks for the review.

      Don't reckon you're alone here David, or Mr Golf. Although with firmer conditions we reckon you'll notice the difference from 100 and in. Then it becomes performance vs cost. Seems like you've got things covered.

      I did the same and Im not looking back. They feels nice of the face. And they feel soft off of the putter.

    This is about what I notice as well. I would love the Tour Soft if it would just spin a little more on approach shots, where I play I need it too much to give it up. On softer more receptive greens I would play with it all day but I can't at my course unfortunately.

      We're still surprised Kippa didn't snap the driver shaft around his back! Glad you liked it.

    Great review mate, you Aussie's get straight to the point 👍 not like most the reviews on here. Just gone from the velocity to the Tour soft, for the extra control on approach shots and very happy with the results. Maybe look at the Pro V1 or AVX when I'm down to single handicap.

      Hi Will, Tour Soft is a great option and has a really nice balance of spin, distance and affordability (in case of a wayward drive or 5). Thanks for the nice comments, unusual as it is for us to get them! Play well.

    Thanks for doing this review, the tour soft seems to have been under a lot of peoples radar. I'm looking forward to trying the tour speed: looks like a tour soft with a urethane cover. How about actually doing a real blind review by painting over the makers markings?
    Also a lot of reviews by better players concentrate on feel and spin but I bet that better golfers could score just as well with almost any ball.

      Hi Mark, we loved doing this review. There was a belief that golfers don't compare these 2 balls as viable options but we think they do, and the results show why they should. Better players should concentrate on what happens 80 yards and in, hence the AVX shone for Kippa. I think the Tour Speed could be a gem. As for the blank markings, this was close. Kippa is not a tech guy and knew nothing of either ball so he had no idea what might happen, hence the review works. But at his level, with a few rounds, he could make any ball work. Sadly. Phil.

    great review, can you do avx vs prov 1 and prov1x?

    • @GolfBarons
      @GolfBarons  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Justin. We got word that the next generation Pro V1 and Pro V1x are being rolled out on Tour as we speak. A fair way off getting access though but never say never.

      GolfBarons thanks mate, if you can do a vid against the current versions if not will wait for new versions. Lots of talk about differences, ie prov 1 swopped characteristics with the prov1 x

    I bought a box of the tour soft and I gotta say I was very disappointed. Yes, off the tee it was relatively long and soft, but it wasn’t 10 plus yards longer. It was within a couple yards of a pro V or the AVX. When it came to approach shots or half wedges, the tour soft had no bite. Everything would drop and roll about 7-12 yards past everything. Which personally I find terrible. The thing that I find most annoying is that titelist didn’t lower the price to the tour soft. The old NXT Tour and Tour S were a urethane cover and they had good bite. These tour soft aren’t urethane and it shows. If you’re going to spend 35 bucks on a softer ball that performs you might as well get the Taylor made Tour response balls. Same price point and it’s softer and it has a urethane cover with really good action around the greens.
    Cheers....

      Seems you discovered everything we did. The greens we tested on were a little receptive but on firm greens the AVX clears out. Good advice re: urethane too. 👍

    I score the same with any brand ball cause it’s the player not the ball...

      Not bothering to get ball fit is for high handicappers. Once you get to low single figures feel, spin and compression are extremely important. If I play a soft ball like a Tru Soft, I lose a minimum of 15m off the tee, but gain a club length on every iron. This is because they are designed for lower swing speeds with driver and compress too much against my driver face (it's really quite astounding when you see it on a slow motion replay of the impact, the ball really deforms). They have less spin on iron shots, so the ball flys further. I score my best rounds with Pro V's, as the feel and spin around the greens gives me confidence to hunt pins and I get more single putts by sticking it close. Once your game gets better, you'll find a specific ball that works best for you. Until you are compressing your irons and hitting your driver out of the middle of the club face or within 15mm of it, you're probably not going to notice a performance difference between different balls... Once your ball speeds get above 165mph, compression is extremely important.

    You get a prettier box for 15 extra dollars with the AVX
    You gotta wonder................

    • @GolfBarons
      @GolfBarons  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Eggs, it's pretty much the question we were asking but with fewer full stops. It then comes down to how much value you place on the shots under 100 yards, pretty box and all.

      The tour soft feels like a wilson compared to the avx. Avx has the coating of a pro v with distance. Hit my 9iron 168 yds today with a avx. Theres no convincing me otherwise. Avx is the best ball

  • @BOOGiNS
    @BOOGiNS 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Theres no comparison. The tour soft is cheap feeling and the avx feels like a prov 1x with distance. How is this review legit

    • @GolfBarons
      @GolfBarons  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheap feeling? We've heard of hard or soft, but cheap feeling? Fairly sure the Tour Soft is cheaper. Guess that explains that. Legit.
