That means to make, for example 100 nucleotide long functional RNA, it would take 100^4 combinations, which is not an astronomically large number. It is quite possible that RNA is a precursor of life (4 bases), not protein. That means to make, for example 100 nucleotide long functional RNA, it would take 100^4 combinations, which is not an astronomically large number. It is not impossible to think life could be an outcome of combinatorial chemistry happened over a span of billion years.

I'm a 100% sure that Pervez Hoodbhoy is a low key atheist. Anyone who has even a little bit of common sense, will be able to conclude that there's little or no evidence to suggest that humanity was born with a purpose, or that there's a creator. If there's a creator, then the next problem is, who created him?
This is the problem. If you keep asking questions, then there is none to it. There has to be a finish line. I believe that we can find a common ground between relgion and science. Accepting religion and rejecting science v accepting science and rejecting religion is both wrong.
