[UPDATED 2023] How to FIX Corrupt Disk Error (Steam)

- In this tutorial I am going to show you how to fix Corrupt Disk Error (Steam).

1. Run Steam as Administrator
Your antivirus software or Windows Defender may interrupt the process of updating or downloading an app on Steam. It's more likely to happen if Steam is installed on the same drive that houses your operating system.
The best way to avoid this is to run Steam as administrator, which will prevent your security software from blocking Steam client processing. To run Steam as administrator, type "Steam" in Windows Search, right-click the Steam icon, and select Run as administrator.
If running Steam as administrator fixes the problem, set the app to always run as administrator.
2. Run Repair Folder in Steam
Steam offers a helpful utility for repairing corrupt Steam directories. Repairing them may also fix the "Corrupt Disk" error you're experiencing. Follow these steps to perform the repair:
Launch Steam.
Navigate to the Steam menu in the top-left corner and select Settings
3. Navigate to the Downloads tab in the Settings window and click Steam Library Folders.
4. Select the drive that contains the game where the error is occurring.
5. Click on the three horizontal dots next to that drive and then click on Repair Folder.
3. Rename the Steamapps' Subfolder
Renaming a subfolder named "Downloading" in the Steamapps folder has fixed this error for many Reddit users. So, you should also try it. Follow these steps to rename this folder:
1. Launch Steam.
2. Navigate to the Steam menu in the top-left corner and select Settings.
3. Navigate to the Downloads tab in the Settings window and click Steam Library Folders.
4. Select the drive that contains the game where the error is occurring.
5. Click on the three horizontal dots next to that drive and then click on Browse Folder
6. To rename the Downloading folder, right-click on it and then click Rename. (Check out different ways to rename files on Windows)
7. You can call it anything except "Downloading," but some users suggest renaming it to "Old."
Then, update the game; hopefully, you won't encounter this error again.
4. Clear the Download Cache in Steam
Steam's download cache saves information about active downloads and updates until game files are copied to the final destination. If a game is not downloading or updating correctly after an interruption, you can clear the download cache to rule out the cache as a possible culprit.
To clear the Download cache, launch the Steam client, click on the Steam menu, and then choose Settings. In the Settings panel, select the Downloads tab and click the Clear Download Cache button.
5. Relocate the Game to a Different Drive
You may encounter the "Corrupt Disk" error if your hard drive is on the verge of failure. If you hear strange noises from your drive, your files frequently get corrupted, or you run into disk drive errors repeatedly, your hard drive could be defective. You can test your hypothesis by moving your Steam games to a different drive.
To do that, open Steam, click on the Steam menu in the top-left corner, and go to Settings. Then, go to the Downloads tab on the left and click Steam Library Folders to open the storage manager.

I tried everything, but the corrupt disc issue remains
I fixed that by reseting Windows
so I have a corrupt disk game (being L4D2 and PD2) on a terabyte expander that is connected to my laptop and I have tried all the fixes on steam and in my files (both on my main laptop and the expander) but non seem to work and it still says that there is a corrupt disk, it started when I tried redownloading L4D2 at my grandparents place out of the US states on there crappy internet but before I could get it finished we went out to the road so I lost connection to the wifi and on the way the terabyte expander got disconnected, and now its just says corrupt disk and non of the fixes so far have worked.
First one worked instantly, usually don't bother liking or subbing with these but I'm really thankful so I will do so. Thank you.

I have two hard drives like you. One has windows on it( SSD) and the other has my games(HD). I have two steamapps folders because of this. (This Pc > D (D:) > Steamlibrary > steamapps > downloading)
I was renaming the wrong downloading folder when I tried step one. (Windows > Program Files(x86) > Steam > Steamapps > downloading), Renaming the other one in my "gaming" hard drive solved my issue.
I realized this when the first step didn't make steam update.

I am sorry man, the error is pretty vast and it is extremely hard to cover all the solutions in 1 tutorial. I am currently on my way to finishing part 2 for this issue. 💪
Please help me, none of the options worked. I tried to find the actual corrupted file and I got rid of them, like I deleted them. But now it still doesn't work, so now what do I do?? This all started because I got a patch for Remnant 2 and now it broke my game so I can't play

mine still isnt fixing. Even after clicking repair drive nothing shows up. I have over 200gb of games on there. Do I just reinstall everything?
You could, and it might help, but there is no guarantee with these things. It's 50/50.
@@Guide4Ever I found a fix! The uninstalling of userdata seemed to do the trick
I tried everything still my issue is not resolved, deleted Userdata folder and tried still no luck. Have you find any solution?

I've tried everything on this fix but it doesnt help, my rise of the tomb raider keeps on having a corrupt download when its 79%. Then i tried changing my download region and it worked :)

nothing worked for me my apex is not installing and it keep saying corrupted disk
Did you try deleting userdata folder in Steam folder? Then restart Steam and retry installing.
figured the problem yet ? i have the same issue
yes i have but it still doesn't work i've redownload the game for at least 5 times and it's still not installing
