There is a Win 10 & 11 bug that limits download and upload. This is what worked for me. I spent hours researching what to do, and just copy and paste this in command prompt one line at a time, and it WILL fix it if you had the same windows bug that I had. (You might have to enter it again after a couple updates. Apparently windows still doesn’t realize it yet…) NETWORK FIX Win 10 & 11 ipconfig /release ipconfig /flushdns ipconfig /renew and press Enter. (This will stall for a moment.) netsh int ip reset and press Enter. (Don't restart yet.) netsh winsock reset netsh interface tcp show global netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=normal

Ive watch 100 videos and nothing has helped but i finally figured it out it was the windows security slowing it down and doing it. Open windows security App & browser control. Reputation-based protection settings. Turn off check apps and files.

No worries at all and sorry it didnt help. The problem is there could be a number of reasons why your Steam downloads slowly. This is a solution for some of those reasons, but it's impossible to create a video that covers every possibility. I do offer the oprion for looking in to the issue for you (for free) if you want to jump on Discord at some point and are happy with me remotely connecting to your computer
Im starting to feel dumb, ive got 1GIG ive done everything you have shown and that pinned comment and still it limits me down to peak 80MB and current averaging 30MB. This cant be this slow. ;(
For me the download speed was at 1 MB/s before i started at Auto setting. I tried setting the speed to 1GB but then my Ethernet just went offline and didn't reconnect. I set it back to Auto and my downspeed climbed to what it should be normally.
It seems like windows chooses steam to be limited bandwidth by default for some reason, changing it to full duplex doubled my download and decompression speed on gigabit Ethernet.

I reset it and tried and it went from 13 to 18 Mb/s but my original download speed before steam randomly did this was at highest 65-70 MB/s so I mean it buffed it by 5 but I want my original download speed back
I get completely different screens and cant get to the settings you specify. Seems like every time you update windows they change the UI. I have the exact problem addressed here. We have 1gb internet. My son gets 100-200mb/sec on steam. Meanwhile I get at max a rush at first when DLing a game of like maybe 80-90mb/sec. then drifts off to 0 mb and most of the time and then will get like 5-20 mb. Tried different speed tests and unsurprisingly the one provided by xfinity shows 600 mb/sec upload of 100. I went to whatsmyisp speedtest and it shows 64mb/sec dl. Steam is extremely slow. EDIT: Both computers are hardwired no wi-fi
Would this work on windows for Mac? My download speeds used to be very good and then it randomly changed to 30 mbps. I cannot find the duplex option in the properties tab
My internet speed is fine but on my pc it would fluctuate up and down after a couple minutes downloading to the point it wouldnt download anymore. Then i noticed steam uses up alot of disk space, it would always sit at 100%, so i uninstalled steam and reinstalled, now it works, it use to peak at 8 Mbps now it has peaked at 81.2 Mbps, sits comfortably at 73 Mbps while disk usage is 25%, somtimes it jumps to 100% while it writes to the hard drive. After trying everything a simple reinstall of steam worked 😆
Thanks for giving me something else to check, but. On a 500 MB cable connection. SpeedTest runs at 540. Until today Steam speeds were fine. Today, 3.4 kbps. Steam region is correct, no settings to throttle for any reason in Steam. Adapter link set to auto negotiate (WIN 11). No other applications have a speed problem except Steam. Maddening.

im about to go crazy man lol i have tried everything. my internet was usually download games at 50-60 megabits per sec and recently steam has it locked to 11-12 megabits per sec. to preface i know the difference in megabytes and bits. when i run speed test on my pc or any other device im still getting the 50 megabits but steam just wont even come close. i have done all the settings including the steps in your video and the pinned comment with the command prompt. im starting to feel stupid. edit, im subbing to you just for the sole fact you are the only youtube video that offered a different solution to 'check your steam settings'
Man I feel your pain dude. The fact is there's no one guaranteed fix for these issues. So many factors can impact steam download speed. If your Internet speed test shows 50mb down, you won't get all of it on Steam, but you should be higher than 11-12mb. Without knowing your setup, network, software etc, it's so hard to say what it could be
@@pebkaclive i run a ATT hotspot and i know itss not the best but there was like a clear line of when the issues started. and where i used to get 50-60 and it would jump around in that area, its locked at like 12 now. no fluctuations at all which tell me its gotta be something limiting my network and its ONLY with steam. Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9700 CPU @ 3.00GHz 16.0 GB ram 64 bit im connected via ethernet. i live in the sticks so i know im not supposed to have the greatest internet. but i am only basing these problems on the fact that 2 weeks ago my ookla speed tests were on average 52 Mbps and i was reaching those speeds with steam downloads. now my ookla speed test are the EXACT same and i cant get over 12 Mbps on steam.

On windows 11 under advanced click EEE Max support Speed. I was at 1gbps changed it to 2.5gbps changed my life thanks mate. I have fiber optic by the way.
I usually listen to videos at 20 but I had to turn all the way up. sounds like your microphone is on the other side of the room. But yeah I know I have good internet because Im on the max bundle from virgin media, highest internet they have, got a new router at the start of the year. Steam is the ONLY thing that is slow and yeah its all devices.. but I stress again, it is literally the ONLY thing that is slow. everything else is giving me the download speed my internet is capable of achieving. I also know it isnt my pc or "crappy wifi" because my friends also complain about this issue, 1 of which are also on the highest speed virgin media have. I tweaked everything and done my changed and its still slow. I do wanna note though. it doesn't start off slow.. it does start off giving me what my internet provides and is good, then around 12%(typically) steam just dies and it sits at 0 for a while as if im not connects then will only give me slow speeds. again this ONLY happens with steam. literally nothing else.
Sorry about that strangegoat. Reverse it and put it back to how it was. Unfortunately this video was only one possible solution, there could be so many reasons. What should your download speed be if you do speed test on Google? Is your download speed faster on other sites/apps? Are you on WiFi or Ethernet?
Hi Matthew sorry it hasn't helped. This was just one fix and won't help everyone unfortunately. Does your speed issue only affect Steam? What speed do you get when testing normally?

I would do this, but I have so many games installed and I have alot of game data so I would loose all of that.

No it it just means if you connected to a slower network it could have issues

if your game is downloading slow (60mbps) Its prolly ur hard rive download it on SSD so its faster (600 mbps)
