    The genuineness of his smile when he recalls his son's experiences is beautiful

    Agree with you 100%. I don't see gay / lesbian couples rising children as a problem at all! Hell it makes me sick when I see people who rather have children in an orphanage than allowing loving gay / lesbian parents to adopt. This world is full of self righteous bigots.

    DJ is one lucky kid....he may not realize this now, while he's an adolescent but I hope he knows it somewhere down deep inside & will express it frequently & freely for his whole life long.

    @3ssay: It may might be the worst part of your childhood to realize, that your parents...your dad...the man, that was the strongest man you knew until the age of 6 or so...your mother...the always understood you, etc...that these people...are just...people.

    His column may have started as a joke, but the work he's put into it for the past twenty years is no joke. I wonder how many other people you would dismiss as non-experts, after they've been doing something--and doing it really well--for twenty years?

  • @MrGoatflakes

    Yeah but he did actually open up and talk about his girl problems. I find this pretty amazing myself, and I don't know any gay guys that would have as teenagers openly discussed their boy troubles with their straight parents.

    An interesting challenge is teasing apart what portion of your experiences growing up, being misunderstood, feeling set apart from your parents, are from A) specifically and only homophobia, B) sexual orientation difference, C) each person's personality, D) just the plain old human condition

  • @Enlitner

    There is nothing in the bible about Jesus growing up. I think to recall that he also apologizes to god for not following his path for a long time. This means that he could have been having any kind of childhood. Maby there was a reason it was left out, like his gay phase,the angry adolescent roman-killing rebel phase or the hippy-phase when he got depressed about all the violence around and after a wild night on egyptian herbs woke up in the desert and knew how TO MAKE THEM LISTEN :)

    Incest, polygamy, prostitution, pedophilia, beastiality. Take your pick. (yes, i know that at least 3 of these are already legal to some extent and in some ares of the usa)

    Also that logic there 'if they liked him he wouldn't have been crucified. Or violated.' is obviously ridiculous, capital punishment is rarely preceded by sexual abuse, you need to give reason to believe there would be sexual abuse in this particular case, or at least often in Rome before a convict was killed.

    @Orceloi-well this kid has two FATHERS who are loving and the kid is strait so by your definition he should be even twice as stable as kids from all those broken up, drunken, neglectful, abusive, hetero, mixed gender parents.

    People need to stop being gullible and mature. It's that simple now, and it was that simple then. Having a scapegoat for peoples actions is like religious folks blaming the Devil for everything they do. Ultimately, people are responsible for their own actions. Being pranked is one thing. Pranking others because you were pranked is a completely different matter.

    Yep, they nailed him to a special post for his special crimes against Rome. The Romans treated their criminals very poorly- if they liked him he wouldn't have been crucified. Or violated.

    Don't confuse the bigotry with the bigot. I know people with terrible views about homosexuality who are otherwise great people. Remember, the vast majority of people used to be horrible bigots by today's standards. Racism was widely accepted. Homophobia was widely accepted. Religious persecution was widely accepted. This does not mean that most people were pieces of shit, just that they had some truly terrible views.

    I only have issues with pedophilia and bestiality because of absence of consent. If someone wants to do it with their cousin and the cousin wants to do it with that person, who are you to stop them? So what if someone wants to sell sex for money? I say it's their body, their choice what they do with it. Polygamy? What's wrong with loving more than one person?

  • @tuck295q

    @3ssay There are that too, but you better realize which parents worth respect. They might be your own. You might really hurt someone who deserve better on another hand and that is worse than giving respect to parents that don't deserve it. XD

  • @nolielhaven
    @nolielhaven 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well going from Jesus existing and saying he is the creator of the universe is a huge leap though. There is no evidence whatsoever for the supernatural. Until then we must assume that any claims at the supernatural are false, unless proven otherwise. It's the rational thing to do.

  • @elspoko

    @bronzgoldfish1308 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    @DietDrMario Yep. It's sad, we live in a world that shuns the different and the new. Maybe it'd the fear of becoming a new sexuality that drives people from friendship with gays?

  • @PhilipPetrunak
    @PhilipPetrunak 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @matthewk183 Honestly, I don't entirely believe that. Yes, we have a rebellious streak, but I think the reason so many teens lose respect for their parents is they realize they're not worthy of it. As children, limitless respect we have for our parents, but as we grow, we realize they are flawed and fucked up just like everyone else, and some kids don't take that realization well. If you lead a life worthy of respect, and respect your kids, they'll respect you. Worked on me.

    I asked myself if their son was gay or not. Now I now :)

  • @nolielhaven
    @nolielhaven 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sure, he might have been a guy. I have high doubt regarding any supernatural claims, as whenever confronted with supposedly supernatural events in my life, it always turned out to have a rational explanation once I looked closely into the issue :P I came to the conclusion that most probably our universe is just too consistent to allow the supernatural.

    So maybe the kid didn't want to talk to his dads about his 12-year-old romantic life because he thought they wouldn't understand. But I think most kids that age don't want to talk to their parents about their crushes or relationships - right? No matter whether the parents are gay or straight. If the kid had had heterosexual parents, I don't know if it would be any different, except that maybe the kid's excuse for not telling them would change.
