If Sir Hopkins hadn't done anything else in his entire life, this waltz would still be enough to remember him.
So true 👌
I cry everytime I hear that waltz. So beautiful
Totalmente de acuerdo.
This music is so beautiful that It's hard to remain unmoved. Remarkable composition.
Its an amazing piece of music, love it!
I think we can say that Anthony Hopkins is one of the greatest artists of all time.
Who else just learned that Sir Anthony Hopkins wrote a genuine masterpiece?
🙋♀️
Me…. First time I heard it years ago at some theater. My Shazam couldn’t catch the melody…
When a film is made in memory of Anthony Hopkins they must show this masterpiece as an obligation.
hopefuly not soon
You’re telling me he gatekept this masterpiece for 50 years because he was scared it wasn’t good🤯
Why wait till he is dead... probable his next movie can have some music as well
It should be the theme of the film.
Not necesarly because he was scared. Who said that? Did you considered that he had his personal reasons?
You would that. That's why you think like that.
Don't be scared. I wish you good luck! :)
I love it how he is just there, just somewhere in the audience, not in the first row nothing fancy, he is just there
"Just call me Tony" is how I believe he likes to say to all and sundry...
He’s apparently a lovely humble human
But with commanding screen presence
Jes, and always the camera at his face
@@PiaPitki he’s not directing where the camera points 🤦🏼♂️
Anthony Hopkins is a quiet humble genius... whether acting, painting....But composing this ...made me cry....beautiful and goosebumps.
Made me cry too. Is simply beautiful.
and a damm good pianist also
Thank you Sir Anthony Hopkins for composing this piece and thanks you André Rieu and Strauss orcestra for playing it. Beautiful performance
Never asked anyone to play it, and yet it's absolutely hauntingly beautiful. How much magnificent art is out there that never sees the light of day?
Have had this discussion with friends, I dread to think the amount of creations that has not seen the light of day as the composer was scared to showcase there work. This piece by Sir Hopkins is a perfect example, 50 years in a drawer... and to be blunt, it is a masterpiece... only his confidence delayed its premiere !
What are you saying André Rieu talked about it and said he contacted him wanting to show him his composition (although many many years after he created it)
@@Peqqzqt it says right there he kept it to himself for years before all of this???
@@Peqqzqt He wrote this Waltz 30+ years before reaching out to Rieu to perform it. This is literally his first time hearing the piece performed. He was afraid it wouldnt be good enough because it was his first attempt at writing music.

I love how not only is he (Anthony Hopkins) watching the musicians, but he is also watching the crowd and smiling at their reaction to the music
+jasmine russo Yeah, André Rieu wasn't joking in the beginning. It's really beautiful. And they performed an excellent rendition. It must have been very emotional to him to listen to his music come to life like that and the audience embracing like that. Also, judging by his reaction in the beginning of the video they might have actually surprised him.
+sugoruyo You are correct. This is the first time that his waltz was ever actually performed publicly. It was a surprise arranged for him by his wife.
+jasmine russo It has to be exciting since this has all been in his head for 50 years and scary seeing (what looks to be) thousands listening to something you were too embarrassed to show to the world.
Once upon in the west
🎉😊
How proud Anthony Hopkins wife is, makes me cry. This music is magnificent!
I'm not a classical guy, but this is one of the most beautiful pieces I've ever heard
I love this piece!!
Is wonderful!
It's like the spirit of two lovers finally unite again and dance in the same ballroom that they'd danced at once before for an eternity. Their hearts melting together with each movement of their waltz.
OMG, I was thinking along the same way!! I had this scene in my head where a man sits alone in a ballroom at the beginning and then the spirit of his deceased wife comes to him to ask for a dance and they dance like they were never apart, but in the end he sits down again and the wife leaves. But for this moment, for this song, their soules were one and that‘s enough..
Thinking the same, and just did that.
Bravo! I agree, it's so heavenlly romantic.
To me, it is this and everything in the beginning and in between. The separation, the sadness, the tragedy and in the end the reunion.
I feel like that every time I travel to see my partner. I could easily put this piece of music on and dance with them. It's a beautiful piece of music and makes me feel joy every time I hear it as I feel joy every time I see my partner
this guy didn't produce this waltz earlier in his life because he was afraid that nobody would like it. and you hear how beautiful this waltz is. imagine how many artists have been too afraid to share their work. imagine the wonderful pieces of music we could have if we would just lighten up a bit.
especially in paitings and stuff
you absolutely right
well, imagine if beethoven shared everything he wrote...he would be shit because he would have no standards, this kind of fear is good
Ayman Amy ehhhhyyhhchyynhjjjjjjuuu
Very true.
Theres drama, passion, love and anger, sadness and boldness, a perfect waltz. And imagine, if Lady Hopkins never convinced Sir Hopkins to release this, we wouldn’t have this amazing masterpiece. Utmost respect for the two of them.
Im really glad she did!!! It is wonderful! I was super surprised when i was there, when he played this beautiful waltz (i didnt know Hopkins composed until that moment). It had me in tears
And whimsy! If Anthony Hopkins had been a composer by trade, we'd be saying this piece had all the classic trademarks of a Hopkins composition.
Estos valses te relajan hasta el alma , una maravilla
Das ist wunderbar!
Nothing else to say, said all, my brother
I pray that my Daddy is watching this from Heaven-he would absolutely love it❤😢
Legendary Welsh actor Sir Anthony Hopkins is also a pianist and composer, with a deep love of music. And here’s a magical moment, where one of his first compositions is heard anew, thanks to ‘King of the Waltz’ André Rieu and his Johann Strauss Orchestra. The actor wrote this piece, "And the Waltz Goes On" in 1964 when he was in his 20s. Years later, Hopkins and his wife were watching one of André Rieu’s famous concerts. “I’d love to have that waltz played in Vienna,” the actor said to his wife, as a passing comment. Little known to Hopkins, his wife then contacted Rieu and shared the sheet music of the nearly 50-year-old composition. The Dutch violinist then surprised the Welsh actor with a phone call, saying his orchestra had just rehearsed his waltz and wanted to perform it live. A few months later, that Vienna premiere became a reality. The Dutch violinist recalled Hopkins coming to him afterwards, saying, “I love it, I love it, and I have tears in my eyes!” Rieu added: “Playing his waltz for the first time in one of the most beautiful halls in Vienna was like a dream for both of us.” Rieu and his orchestra continued to tour with the piece. The above performance took place in 2012, during the Dutch violinist’s famous Maastricht concerts. Watch as a visibly moved Hopkins watches the performance from the audience. Afterwards the actor stands and removes his hat, thanking the orchestra and waving to the Maastricht crowd. He may be best known as Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs or Odin in Marvel’s Thor, but Sir Anthony Hopkins’ piano and compositional talents have taken the Internet by storm in recent years. During the Covid pandemic, the movie legend went viral on social media, playing his piano music with his pet cat Niblo perched on his lap. Earlier this year, he stunned hotel staff with spontaneous piano playing in an empty lobby. Though he has enjoyed a glittering career as an actor, he often speaks of music and composition as a first love. “Music was my first desire, my first wish,” Hopkins told Gramophone magazine in 2009. “I soon realised that I wanted to be involved and started composing at an early age, writing for the piano.” From that first wish, to a Vienna premiere almost 50 years later. Musical dreams can really come true...
I cannot fathom how someone can imagine the music In their heads and produce such a beautiful piece.
For most of us, it just starts with chords and a melody, and there are "standard" techniques you can use to add parts for all the different instruments. A very experienced or gifted composer may hear some of the full orchestration in their mind, but it's normally something you build up over time with pen and paper.

I can hear words! May I have to write them down lol
Same about poetry and literatures 😥

I love how the conductor is silently looking at the band as if to say "Don't fuck it up".
It's a conductor's second job
It's 2024.Still one of my favorite movies to watch. It never gets old. That , was bloody magnificent....from Fort Worth, Tx
What a gift this orchestra is to humanity. Such a blessing. Thank you to all those who studied and practiced so many hours for us to enjoy. I close my eyes and pretend I’m dancing with my late husband. What joy!

This piece was composed by Hopkins in 1964 he was 26 at the time...this man got it all😊❤👍👏👏👏
He would have been drinking heavily then too. He is well over 50 years sober now. Incredible.
Well i still have a year or so to produce something like that.

@@fitness5days553 He stopped drinking just after Christmas in 1975.
Sir Anthony Hopkins actually composed this around 1964, when he was roughly 26 years old. It took his wife in 2011 to quietly contact Andre Rieu and send him a copy of it for the waltz to be actually played; Hopkins never pushed for it to be produced, oddly enough; maybe out of shyness, or maybe simply out of humility. Gorgeous.
He was quite scared that no one would like it...but it's an absolute masterpiece
Salounmey Mathers Personally one of the best music I’ve ever listened to.
@@severusfloki5778 Same thing for me
At this point what can’t Sir Anthony Hopkins do
I think his wife had have a sense to push this valts to worldwide. And I say to she many thanks about this.
Just... goosebumps...
Did you see how many people in the audience seemed to just wanting to dance? Imagine a huge dance floor emerges and all stand up, rushing to it and just dance to this beautiful music
I’m a ballroom dancer and I would really stand up, took my partner and we would dance Viennese Waltz to that beautiful music
Well....this was in the Netherlands and we're not exactly known for our skills on the dance floor.
A stage arises while they’re performing with dancers standing still in a pose with their partner. And slowly starts to move with the rhythm. That is a beautiful thought.
It just takes one couple to start and I'm sure there would've been had a couple started. People would have made one. Human nature in an environment like that to see someone enjoying the moment makes others want to do the same. I get made fun of being in the types of work I do for liking classical music but I do not care it is amazing. I will always love it.

Bravo to his wife for convincing him to release this song
I commented on this seven years ago. It popped up on my playlist and I wanted to go back to this video because I remember the first time I heard it, I wept. Seeing Sir Anthony's utterly delight and joy at hearing something he composed played by a full orchestra still brings the waterworks.
I still want to cry when I listen to it. It’s so inventive ❤
Right now is actually the first time hearing this too, and as I sit ok the toilet doing my business, I too am crying. It was so powerful and deep
It is very melancholic, and touches the heart invoking memories.

Combien de valses n'ai-je entendu, combien n'en ai-je fait entendre à mes enfants encore dans le doux ventre de leur maman, celle-ci est, sans conteste, la plus belle.

Fun fact: it was actually Sir Anthony’s wife Lady Hopkins who encouraged him to put his waltz out there. So if it wasn’t for Lady Hopkins we would never have heard this absolute masterpiece of music.
...masterpiece, hahaha!
He was knighted (hence the "sir"). He's not a Lord (totally different) hence his wife is not Lady Hopkins.
