Great comparison review, Maarten. I knew there are quite a lot of similarities but didn't realise there were so many finer detail setting differences as well. For me, the X-T200 had most of everything I needed from a camera and was quite a big saving on the cost of the T-30 here in the UK so I went with that for my first foray into mirrorless compact system cameras. It is not the easiest camera to get to know with it's lack of dial markings and almost entirely menu-driven functionality but with regular use and help from videos like yours, I feel comfortable with it now. Above all else, it takes great photos and that is the whole point of any camera at the end of the day.
Great review, Maarten! Normally I don't have the patience to finish a video longer than 10 minutes but your comparison is really insightful. Thank you so much for this. Well done!

Hello, thank you for this intelligent and impartial review. I'm looking to buy my first mirrorless camera (on a budget) and feel drawn towards the Fuji universe. Any recommendations? The XT30 is well out of my budget. The Olympus Mark III and Sony a6100 seem qualified contenders. I'm keen on travel, portrait, landscapes and the occasional Street photography. Thank you in advance!
Thank you so much for such a helpful review, it helped me a lot and I'm very glad I found your channel! And I would like to ask for your advice, maybe it's too unprofessional but I would really like your opinion. I am a handmade toy maker and I would like to buy a camera mainly for taking pictures of finished works, my toys are less than 5 cm tall. I would like to get good clarity and beautiful bokeh if possible. My choice is the xt200 as it is more affordable for a beginner, but I thought that the kit lens is not very good. Maybe it is better to buy a camera body and a good lens for it? What do you think? Would the kit lens version be enough for me? Or what lens would you recommend for my purposes?
I would recommend a macro lens for that kind of work. The larger the focal distance the further away the camera needs to be. I'd recommend around 35-50mm for 5cm figures.
Thank you for the most complete camera review i've ever seen. If you had to pick one of this two for Low Light performance (video and stills) which one will be? Greetings!
I was wanting to buy a mirrorless camera because it's smaller than a DSLR and the new ones have rotating screens. I'm glad I didn't get the X-T30. The screen doesn't flip out on that one. I got the X-T200 which does have a flip out screen. It's really handy for shooting myself for videos.
Such a thorough review! Thank you so much. Sir, do you have a moment to answer a question? I want a Fuji camera that i can use in selfie mode for photo shoots of me with my family. I deeply appreciate any insights you have. Thank you so much!
Sir. I want to make a transition to mirrorless cameras from smartphone photography. I have watched a lot of videos. The film simulation mode in Fujifilm cameras have always drawn my attention. I consider myself to be a learner and want to explore further. While i don't want to spend such a big amount of cash for a beginner. The X T-30 and X-T200 fall in my budget, moreb preferably the X-T200. Also if I can spend less, I can afford an extra Lens such as the F2 XC 35mm in mind. But as i have watched and gone through so many videos, the importance of an X-Trans Sensor against a Bayer type confuses me. What would you suggest. I have been using an OnePlus 3 and Mi 9T Pro for my smartphone photography. I believe my main interest is towards street photography and that also includes a lot of low light conditions. Your advice would be of immense help.
I would recommend the X-T30 over the X-T200, it's just a better camera (I thought that would be obvious in the video). The X-Trans sensor offers some inherent advantages (better colour purity, better contrast, no aliasing filter) but processing makes the two about equal.

While I intend to record some video and make some editing, my main focus will be indoor pictures and some backpacking shots. Looking at getting a prime lens at f1.7ish with an equivalent focal length of approx. 50mm. and not much else. Which camera would be your favorite if I can get the same deal on both? Thanks in advance!
Thank you for a thorough review. Much appreciated. I just recently purchased the X-T200 since there's a substantial discount offered as of this writing. I was actually looking to get the X-A7 but it has been discontinued. In some ways this was a good thing as I have now become accustomed to using the EVF though it is ironic that the X-T200 features a large fully articulating display (the X-A7 is the EVF-less brethren). I viewed sample video clip - I'm assuming that's 4K. I was wondering if you were using the kit lens but realized you were using the F2.8-4 lens instead. In the short time that I've had the X-T200, I'm unable to get footage similar to the one in the sample clip. I'm glad to have also purchased a used F2.8-4 lens since I was concerned about the kit lens not being "good enough" for video. Speaking of video, I've not yet encountered the overheating issue but I'm sure I will. Are you aware of any aftermarket products to solve this (other than buying a different camera)? There are rumours of a 3rd party making a product to solve the overheating issue with the Canon R6. I'm sure the answer would be "no" but it wouldn't hurt to ask. Thanks again for all your work and the content that you share.
Thanks for your kind words. As I said, it's hard to take either of these seriously for video, partly because of overheating. I'm not aware of any products - but there's lots of black magic solutions - swapping batteries, leaving the card and battery door open, putting a cold pack under or beside ... I'm not sure that any of these provide more than a marginal benefit. I'm sure the kit (18-55) is good enough for video - what are you seeing to make you suspect it's not?
@@MaartenHeilbron Thanks for the response. I got the Fuji X-T200 as a "backup" camera to my Sony A6400. The 35% price reduction was just too good to pass up. Plus I'm intrigued with Fuji's Film Simulations so I wanted to get into the Fuji ecosystem. The X-T200 camera came bundled with the XC 15-45 mm PZ kit lens. I had also purchased a used XF 18-55 mm F2.8-4 just in case the XC 15-45 wasn't "good enough". In the short time I've played with this, I recorded a few video clips. In comparison, the XF 18-55 definitely appeared to look better in terms of perceived quality. This was simply a visual test (just eye-balling it) and by no means scientific. I've seen other video samples of the X-A7 and X-T200 and they don't appear to have the same quality as the sample clip you have (boat on a lake). And now I can see this difference first hand when comparing the output from each lens. Cold-pack - that's a good one. I'm just going to have to live with the overheating issue with the X-T200. I was really going to use the A6400 as the primary camera but so far I'm enjoying the Fuji "experience" more so we'll see how that goes. I'm new to photography/videography. I have used point-and-shoot cameras and mobile phone cameras until just a few months ago. There's much to learn once one steps up to cameras with interchangeable lenses. And thanks to content creators like Arthur R, Potato Jet, TubeNoob, and yourself, there's a plethora of information neophytes can learn from. Thanks once again.
@@romvil Hi. Could tell me how the 1080p video quality is on the xt200. Do you find it smudgy and less detailed? Also did the heating issue appear at 1080p continuous video recording?
interesting comparison Maarten but no mention on sound quality? That can make an impactful difference in movies, other reviewers have found that the pre-amp on the x-t200 is not good, not sure about the internal mics...
Lower you expectations. They are the same, as are nearly all cameras in this class. If you are serious about audio, you'll be using an external recorder. In any event, I would not seriously consider these for video.
Very nice. Does that pre-shutter feature got any custom settings or is it just on or off? Can it work with C-AF and S-AF? Olympus has so many ways to set it up, just wondering.
@@MaartenHeilbron you really do have some amazing videos and have kept me well informed. Does the pre shutter burst do JPEG and/or RAW? I really think Fujifilm can catch up with Olympus on features I use. I can see me transitioning in 3 years to Fujifilm if Olympus bellies up. X-T30 still lags behind my E-M5 III for certain features. If the next model brings IBIS, light trail, weather sealing & 10fps mechanical it could really win me over with the other benefits of the sensor. As inexpensive as the X-T3 got when the X-T4 came out, it could be the X-T4 that wins me over when X-T5 comes out.
Maarten, thank you for a nice and detailed review. It seems that xt30 produces better collours which may relate to different sensor. Would you advise to consider older xt20 over xt200? What is your opinion about 15-45mm kit lens? Thanks.
Thanks, a pleasure to read your kind words. I thought this video would provide the information you needed to make your decision. I would prefer the X-T20 over the X-T200. I think the 15-45 is an inexpensive lens that does not do justice to the sensors in any of Fujifilm's models.
Great comparison. Keep going back and forth between x200 vs xt30 for a tween interested in photography who currently has an old hand-down Kodak camera; parents just use iphone cameras so the kid would be learning independently. A lot of the beginner features on the x200 look great, but not sure about the unlabeled dials and buttons or the sliders not giving numerical values...seems that might suppress the learning curve. But the x200 screen (size plus full articulation) and film simulation split screen comparison is brilliant. The light streaming mode is also nice. Then again, the auto switch on the xt30 is very useful, as are all the dials being labeled, plus the Eterna simulation. I can see +/- to both for beginners; would be interested in your thoughts.
If the intention is to explore creative expression and let the camera handle the "photography" details, then the X-T200 might be preferred, particularly for someone who's moving from using a phone. However, for the person interested in the technical aspects of exposure, the X-T30 would be my choice.
This a good comparison. The over heating info is useful. I was thinking of getting the X-T200 for video. Any followup on this review if there is a firmware update?
I would not consider either of these camera for any serious video work. An occasional short video recording while travelling etc. is about all either can manage.
I'm sorry to report that's not possible - I don't think either Canon or Fujfilm have those models to lend any longer. Thanks for your kind words though.
i am looking for a small and light camera, resistant, that I can take with me in my bag everywhere and be able to use it for professional photography. I love fuji colors. which model would you recommend for that purpose?
Hi, I am really confuse between xt20 and xt200 , both have similar price tag, can u plz suggest the right one, I am beginner photographer with no camera experience, n taking video is my least priority.
There are Sony and Panasonic models that have a longer running time (ie they're not artificially limited in firmware) and that don't overheat as quickly if at all.
so wait, you can't save custom settings on xt200? If I had my own settings for shadows / highlights, saturation etc. I can't save them as custom profiles?
@@callmedeno The X-T20, X-T30 do provide those controls - but if you intend to use the Fujifilm recipes you'll find on many sites, the X-S10 provides the best and most controls to store and save those settings.
@@MaartenHeilbron Last question I promise, I really appreciate it. So if I was just using my own recipes, I can store and save them fine on the xt20 / 30, it's just if I want to use other people's it's a bit more limited? I'm not so interested in using other people's recipes. Thanks a lot!
Hello dear sir, does X-A7 have same video and Manual focus settings as in X-T200 ? Also as you are very experienced, which one will you recommend for video, X-T2 or X-A7 and key reason. Waiting for your reply.
Sir I'm really confused between CANON M50 MARK II and Fuji X T200. I do continues livestreams and makes video about gaming tech, i never owned any camera. So which should i pick for mostly YT videos and stuff.
Hi Maarten, thank you for sharing much and very detailed information! I am about to decide on my next camera between this two Fujifilm options. I am not an expert at all and I have been exploring the photography world with my current Nikon D7100. My problem is its too heavy with the Sigma 18-35mm 1:1.8 lenses and I get tired to carrying it at some point. Therefore I want to explore a smaller camera for traveling. If the XT200 and the XT30 has the same price, which one would you recommend to me? Thank you very much and very much appreciated your shared such a valuable content on TH-cam. Greetings from Germany!
Hello Maarten, many thanks for sharing with us your knowledge and experience! I've watched your review from 28.09.2017 about Fujifilm x-e3 and I like it very much. Is x-e3 still a good camera today in comparison to these both new cams? I am a beginner into Photography. I want to learn street and landscape photography. Or maybe even alpha 6000, which costs 100€ less than fuji x-e3, would be enough and a better choice for me? Thank you, Maarten, for your help!
Although the right camera for you depends on many factors - the overall tech hasn't changed much. I think the X-E3 remains a small camera that's an excellent choice for quick snaps and streeters.
@@MaartenHeilbron Maarten, which lense can you recommend? I consider to buy XF 18-55 mm f2.8-4 or Samyang 12 mm 2,0 both for the same price. Or maybe the other one would be the better one? Thanks for your help!
@@sergeant2009 What are your needs - the reasons to purchase are very different. The 18-55 is a good all purpose walk-around which suits these small bodies, while the wide angle of the Samyang has a more limited use.
Thank you for yet another great comparison video. The X-T100 and 200 cameras appear to produce amazing photos -- almost too good straight out of camera. Could it be that the standard rendering is well cooked, as in extra sharp added? I have gone many times to view comparisons, such as Imagining Resource site, and the images seem to pop and look great with say the T-100 compared to much more expensive cameras. In real use, I suspect something else is going on. When it comes to build quality, is the X-T200 solid enough for general use. I seldom use a camera as a hammer, though I suspect some Nikons would work as such. ;) Take care, Loren
Not sure what they're doing - but if it works for you, then they're doing the right thing. Right, not a good choice as a hammer, but in general I've found Fujifilm cameras (I do own a couple) to be reliable and durable.
Hi sir. Nice video. Thanks. I am taking photos more than video and I want to see more sharp and good colors on photo. I want to use cx 35mm f2 lens with camera. Which camera is good for me? xt20-xt30 or xt200. I had a a6000 before and I liked its colors. Could u please help me?
First, why not just upgrade to the A6100 if you enjoyed the colour reproduction of Sony? If you are transitioning to Fujifilm, I'd suggest the X-T30, only if the X-S10 is out of budget. th-cam.com/video/M4tJF4PPFiI/w-d-xo.html
I think the X-T30 is a good choice. If you want to spend more, consider the X-T3 th-cam.com/video/AW2sDwqnUyo/w-d-xo.html or X-T4 th-cam.com/video/p0o2Yca3ywc/w-d-xo.html

Great thorough review. We may gift one of these to a family member for Christmas but the smattering of features between the two make the choice difficult.
If the family member is young and familiar with smartphones, it's the X-T200 that might be more suitable. If they are already familiar with photography, the X-T30 should be preferred.

@@romvil Good notes, thanks for sharing.
@@romvil Hi. Could tell me how the 1080p video quality is on the xt200. Do you find it smudgy and less detailed? Also did the heating issue appear at 1080p continuous video recording?
@@dinesh_vegi Please do not consider the X-T200 as a serious video camera.
interesting comparison Maarten but no mention on sound quality? That can make an impactful difference in movies, other reviewers have found that the pre-amp on the x-t200 is not good, not sure about the internal mics...
Lower you expectations. They are the same, as are nearly all cameras in this class. If you are serious about audio, you'll be using an external recorder. In any event, I would not seriously consider these for video.
Any solution for heating issue cause according to this we can shoot at a max of not even 10 min.
Purchase a different camera.
Very nice. Does that pre-shutter feature got any custom settings or is it just on or off? Can it work with C-AF and S-AF?
Olympus has so many ways to set it up, just wondering.
Thanks, a pleasure to read your kind words. No, just on and off.
@@RobShootPhotos Thanks for adding these thoughts.
@@MaartenHeilbron Thank you for your answer! The video is great and full of interesting information.
This was so helpful ! Best content on TH-cam so far. Can you please make a video in comparison to canon m50 mark ii and fuji x-A7. Thanks 🌻
The X-S10 is my current recommendation th-cam.com/video/wmomwFw5yWg/w-d-xo.html
Hi, I am really confuse between xt20 and xt200 , both have similar price tag, can u plz suggest the right one, I am beginner photographer with no camera experience, n taking video is my least priority.
While I thought the video made that clear, and helped you make a decision based on your needs, the X-T20 is the better camera.
Are there ANY hobbyist-level hybrid digital cameras that don't quickly overheat when shooting 4K video Maarten?
There are Sony and Panasonic models that have a longer running time (ie they're not artificially limited in firmware) and that don't overheat as quickly if at all.
@@MaartenHeilbron Thanks!
so wait, you can't save custom settings on xt200? If I had my own settings for shadows / highlights, saturation etc. I can't save them as custom profiles?
There are no custom profiles on the X-T200.
@@MaartenHeilbron Thanks, so would you say the xt30 is the best bet? Is there a fuji camera as small as the 200 that does give this ability?
@@callmedeno The X-T20, X-T30 do provide those controls - but if you intend to use the Fujifilm recipes you'll find on many sites, the X-S10 provides the best and most controls to store and save those settings.
@@MaartenHeilbron Last question I promise, I really appreciate it. So if I was just using my own recipes, I can store and save them fine on the xt20 / 30, it's just if I want to use other people's it's a bit more limited?
I'm not so interested in using other people's recipes.
Thanks a lot!
@@callmedeno Those cameras do not save the full range of settings.
Hello dear sir, does X-A7 have same video and Manual focus settings as in X-T200 ? Also as you are very experienced, which one will you recommend for video, X-T2 or X-A7 and key reason. Waiting for your reply.
Of those, the X-T2 is the better choice as it has more video capability and is less likely to overheat.
Sir I'm really confused between CANON M50 MARK II and Fuji X T200. I do continues livestreams and makes video about gaming tech, i never owned any camera. So which should i pick for mostly YT videos and stuff.
I would not purchase the X-T200 for video purposes. I have not reviewed the M50 Mk2
I thought it was obvious in the video, but if not, I greatly prefer the X-T30.
@@MaartenHeilbron thank you!!
I want to use the xt200 for continuous video shooting at 1080p to record youtube videos. Will I face the overheating issue often at 1080p too?
While it's much less likely at 1080, if you're shooting in a hot environment, it is possible. This is not a serious video camera.
@@MaartenHeilbron thank you so much
I think there was some video filters availble for xt30 and not for XT 200 ? Missed that ??
There are no video specific filters on either camera. Just the film simulations.
Hello Maarten,
many thanks for sharing with us your knowledge and experience!
@@MaartenHeilbron Thank you, Maarten! I appreciate your help!
@@MaartenHeilbron Thanks! I very appreciate your opinion!
Wow that was quite thorough. Thank you for the videos.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Is it worth to buy xt30 ii over xt30?
A minor difference.
Well done, and no unnecessary music.
I'm glad you appreciate my creative decisions, thanks
Hi sir. Nice video.
@@MaartenHeilbron a6100 is expensive for me. So I want to buy a low budget than Sony.
@@maguler111 Oh? At B&H Photo, it is the less than the other models you mention.

Great thorough review. We may gift one of these to a family member for Christmas but the smattering of features between the two make the choice difficult.
If the family member is young and familiar with smartphones, it's the X-T200 that might be more suitable. If they are already familiar with photography, the X-T30 should be preferred.
