LG C4 OLED The best 42" TV / Monitor on the market?

- Today, we check the LG C4 EVO OLED. The C series has been the favorite of LG'S TV lineup for many years. However, the G series and now the MLA G4 have taken center stage. In this video, I discuss and showcase why that shouldn't be . The C series is better than ever.
Special thanks to Value Electronics for supplying the LG C4. Please consider making your next AV purchase through them valueelectronics.com/ or call them directly at 914 723 3344 and ask for Robert or Wendy and please mention Brian at BRIAN'S TECH THERAPY

We love these 42inch OLED's. Great for 2nd bedroom and Gaming and Entertainment room. We keep the PS5 and my wife's SWITCH hooked up to our 2022 model
Thx Brian. Eye opening TV. Can't wait to see it in person.
I love it Jenn! There are no QD-OLEDs at this size and no MLA LG, so the C4 stands alone

Thanks Brian! You’re the only review I can find that’s well rounded and addresses the pc gaming benefits with this years model. Would appreciate your input on it as a monitor for work though.

Looks good. I hoped for some measures but nice video.
We have only the Philips 809 42 as a competitor this year right?
Great presentation Brian. Looking forward to your showing of the G4. Your emphasis on the flexibility of LGs TVs this year is driving my decision. A95L tempting but too pricey. LGs processing has caught up with Sony so now is the time to get my first LG tv.
LG definitely has a very unique signature. Sony is amazing but they definitely keep things more to directors intent. Stay tuned for the G4 my friend and thank you for watching
Hey Brian, I use a 48" CX as my main desk monitor, with a vertical IPS Black monitor 27" abutting it. Its a good combo, because when I work or game with some kind of static element for reference (spreadsheet, map, etc) the monitor can take it and I never have to worry about it. A great review of the 42inch C4 my brother. You are right about what you said about trusting LG when it comes to OLED and it's one of the many reasons why when it comes to OLED I only buy LG. That being said. This would make a great gaming monitor or hell even a tv for watching movies ect.
I have 42c2 and for now it is flawless
But C4 got better image quality, Dolby vision PC and 144hz。I use 42c2 too, but want 42c4 very much。

Very tempted now. Was thinking of investing in the Sony A90K 42". You might of changed my mind now. Thank you for the deep dive.
The A90K is fine, but it doesn't have the options the C4 has. It also doesn't have XR clear, which put Sony on top last year. Thank you for watching

That's what makes the c4 unique as there is very little competition at this size

Thanks for the review, Does it work with wired headphones with a 3.5mm audio jack and the ARC passthrough at the same time ?
Brian please review the LG C4 48 inch version, year after year the 48 inch version gets ignored and often perceived to have the same brightness levels as the 42 inch, I feel it might get be quite close to 55 inch in terms of brightness.
Very nice picture

Q: The LAN port - is it still cap at 100mb/s as per previous model?
Hello, thanks for your extensive analysis Brian, I really liked it. I want to ask you all which television would you choose, this LG C4 or the Samsung S90D, both being 42" and with the same type of LG WOLED panel, as I read they have the same panel. I am undecided and I would like Brian to also analyze the Samsung S90D 42" from 2024 to compare the two because it analyzes them very well and now I ask you for help (Brian give us your opinion too) to help me decide between these two televisions that will go on sale in this year 2024. The use that I'm going to give it is for series, movies and PC and PS5 games. I await your answers, best regards.
I bought a Lg C2 on sale last April and it’s easily destroys the 5 other tvs in my house. I use it mainly for gaming and watching 4k movies. The picture is incredible sound is good and I couldn’t be happier . Not one problem. LG Oled or nothing for me…
What size u get?
Awesome!! So glad you are loving it!
Hi, do you notice any screen tears uncapped, and do you cap your frames 3 below the refresh rate?
42" C2 has been a great monitor for last 2 years - can recommend c4 based on that. Just picked up a 65" C3 for $1400 (USD) in easter sale for other room.
Awesome! You have a great line up my friend

So cute awh😊
Great content Brian. These C series OLEDs are fantastic for what they cost. Wish we had more options for 42" OLED TV "monitors" but hey, at least the only option is a great one!
Thank you, my friend!
And good value for money compared to Sony. Premium price for Sony.
Hi ! How many nits the C4 have (against C3 C2 C1 CX) ? Not against the G4. Thank you
Just sold my C3 42 and purchased the C4 42 today, running a 4090. Wow what an improvement in brightness and noticeable FPS increase. Also blacks and colours, hdr just seem nicer. This is what the C3 should have been. Can definitely recommend this as a monitor, it’s insane!
Very cool! So glad you are enjoying it especially coming from a C3. Thank you for watching
Shit i literally just bought the c3... i think im going to return it today to get the c4 if what youre saying is true..
How is the pink tint? I’m still holding off from buying the c3 because of the issue. Is the red AR coating still there?
@@paradiseb5950 im still running a C3 rn and i dont notice a pink tint ???
I just bought the C4 but wasn't sure...I almost bought the C3. Thanks
Brian, excellent coverage and information as always! I just hopped onto Best Buy. The C3 42” can be had at $899 while the C4 42” is at $1499. Is there $600 worth of image processing improvement? I really want this size for an OLED monitor and I’m fine with 4K 60hz for Cinematic RPG games.
Bro I'm more than likely getting the C4 but for that cost difference I'm getting the C3 no questions.
In Australia it's about $300aud difference so I'm fine with it. But 600US nah
Hi is this apot brighter than c3? As i want to buy one this year but not sure if go for c3 as its cheaper or this?
Hello Brian, so how is sdr game mode brightness in the C4 this year? A step up from the c3 i hope? I know the 42 model is dimmer than its bigger versions, but maybe you have seen gameplay or something on a bigger c4 display?
It's crap because it's still a WOLED old tech and old processer. Doesn't get nearly as bright as competitors in the same price point. C series are dead on arrival.
Dude you are lucky 😁, i hope for vs c3
Grab a cup of coffee and enjoy Brian‘s calm and positive reviews. Thank you very much. 😊
Best compliment ever! Thank you so much for making me part of your morning 🙂
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY Very gladly. But here in Germany it‘s afternoon 😉
Hi Brian
Will the 83 inch have all the same screen tech as the smaller models...??
Great vid my man
Does the C4 still have the dreaded gsync flickering when using as a PC monitor? All of the previous LG C series panels have had that issue
After latest firmware of my c3 42 inch gsync flickering just disappeared. I'm guessing the same about the C4. Although the culprit could be Nvidia's drivers. Can't be sure.
Anyways Gsync flickering isn't a thing anymore.
Have the c1 48” for my ps5 desk set up, been looking at the c3 42” bit waiting to see if there is a massive difference between the c3 and c4 if not I’ll go with the cheaper c3
Is there a big difference?
Are there any differences in picture quality between the 42" C4 & Samsung's 42" S90D 'WOLED'?
When will 42 & 48" QD-OLED's finally become a thing?
Do we know what the clipping point is for a 10% window on the C4? 900 nits?
Very excited for the G4 to come Monday! I was also potentially considering getting the C4 to replace a C9 that I had. Do you believe it will be a massive upgrade over the C9 or is it most likely not enough to make a difference and I should also go for a G4 to replace the C9 as well?
im in the same boat. got an 77c9. is an upgrade to 83c4 worth. or do i have to upgrade to an 83g4 to see a big difference?
The c series has barely changed the last 5 years. You'll be getting a newer gen panel, which wasn't a big change. They mixed panels with the c1 and no one noticed.
Of course the small changes every year add up. It'll be a little brighter, just enough to notice, but you won't be wow'ed
The g4 gives you MLA which is something legitimately new.
If it was my money I would be getting the G4 or I simply wouldn't bother upgrading.
What you have is a still a great tv. Especially if you're just comparing it to the same tier from a few years ago.
is the video processor of this c4 better than that of the sony a90k? What advice do you recommend between the two? Is it possible that the Sony, even if older than two years, remains superior in the visual quality sector?or has this lg c4 surpassed it?
Great video Brian I can’t wait to find out from you if you are going to prefer the C4 or G4 for gaming. I’m coming from a C1 looking to upgrade.
I can already tell you the g4 will beat jt. You'll see the G4 next week. I also have a c1, and I would upgrade . Thank you for watching

@falconclaw1253 my pleasure! Happy Easter, my friend
Can you do a c3/c4 comparison
Hey mate. Thanks for running this, great video.
I've put this on order but the shop salesperson ask me to consider the 32inch 4k alienware. I do prefer to get this.. Anything I'll miss out by not getting the alienware. The LG will be in my room for my home office, using it for PC, gaming with ps5. And streaming shows with the wife. (Netflix but no chill).
Any other TV in this price range you recommend (must be OLED) Or is the C4 that guy
Great question! The only advantage the Alienware could have is a display port connection as well as hdmi2.1. Other than that the alien ware couldn't compete in terms if picture quality even if the Alienware is QD-OLED. They tend to be matte and not as bright as a QD-OLED TV. Also the LG is larger and can be both a monitor and TV. Hope this helps
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY The LG is a better display in almost everything than the Alienware. Blacks aren't purple in daytime, colours (native mode is a gamechanger), HDR performance, the ability to multitask so easily. Alienware might have slightly more accurate highlights at high brightness (no white pixel "washing out") but in my experience this is never an issue as most highlights will be near-white anyway. Text clarity is also no issue whatsoever - at 125% scaling I never complained about blurryness.
I am an aerospace engineer and use this for both work, personal use and PC gaming. It is absolutely perfect for this task. If you sit at a decent distance it will be comfy. I also notice MUCH less eye strain compared to my previous LCD setup. I'm not sure what is causing this, either the size or OLED technology. But it is so comfortable to work and game for hours. Once you get used to this real estate you will never be able to go back to normal sized monitors! Never!
The only reason I'd get the Alienware is because you have no space or have an extremely shallow desk so the display is too big. Or if you play competitive games where you need that high refresh rate.
A bit plus is also the fact it's a smart TV too. So you can watch Netflix and others with 100% support. It looks better than streaming from PC. Don't have to worry about stupid settings and your browser not wanting to stream hdr properly and all that.
I'd get a second monitor on the side for stuff like Teams or music player, and if you need to present things. Cause if you share your screen people will complain everything is too small and hard to read as they will be on small 24 inch 1080p monitors.
Hello, thanks for your extensive analysis Brian, I liked it, I think like you Phantomflame. I want to ask you which television you would choose, either this LG C4 or the Samsung S90D, both being 42" and with the same type of LG WOLED panel. I am undecided between these two televisions that will go on sale in 2024. I await your answers, a cordial greeting.
@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY and @phantomflame0658, thanks kindly for your responses.
I ended up getting the LG and I'm pretty happy. So many options on this thing. Brian, you were spot on with your advice. Phantom I will agree the OLED is amazing as a work machine. My previous Asus monitor gave me migraines but the oled just looks like crystal water in comparison.
I might have to get a new video card next year perhaps.
I will say the low resolution TV and Sd TH-cam stuff, looks really really good. I already own a C8 but it doesn't do this up scaling with the Sd stuff.
@@denniskousto9497 Yeah 1080p content looks great and natural. I watched The Sopranos the other day and didn't look like crappy 1999 TV, it looked like how the directors intended.
I've been using an LG C1 55'' for my monitor for the last couple of years, it's easily the best monitor I've ever owned. Using a on OLED smart TV as a monitor is so underrated.
Waaaayyyy too big man. I’ve tried 55” & 48” OLED’s on an HX Ergotron HX wall mount. 80cm deep desk and it’s still too big.
42” is definitely the sweet spot. Now to decide whether the C4 is worth 70% more money over the C3. 🤔
I still have the C1 and love it! You are absolutely right about the monitor use. Thank you for watching
Been using a 48” CX as my monitor since 2020, been flawless. My extended warranty expired last year so I bought the LG service remote for $7 from Amazon and turned off ABL which was my main annoyance. Now it’s at full brightness at all times.
@@mattspeer01Yeah, that's a good idea, with no warranty to void anymore, there is no downside outside of slightly higher image retention risk but if you've had your screen for that long, you already know how to prevent that from becoming an issue.
@@Rhythmic_Hammer I agree 42 is the way. It's a scary number still for most people but it's not bad at all. In fact most monitors are tiny, so it's the other way round. But can be uncomfortable for some tasks, the edges are too far away. And the pixel density is worse. I'd do a dual/triple 42 setup before going 48 any day.
Tempted to buy it and run it as a 3840x1600 UltraWide for games and swap back to 4K for normal content / PC use.
144 Hz is a big deal, 24 Hz doesn't sound like much but it's 20% more than 120 Hz.
Do you think it’d be good to wait for the inevitable replacement for the Sony A90k which has been out for two years now.? What ever replaces it will at the very least have XR clear and whatever else Sony has up its sleeve for 2024. Sony A90k was the competitor for the LG C2 & C3 since master series TVs have a two year life cycle annoyingly.
Seems like sony is ditching oled for that prototype mini led they showed earlier this year or at least their premium model will be this new prototype tv.
@@ragnarokpxn5196Potentially yeah they’ll focus on mini led I agree. However it would be odd if they left the 42 and 48 inch LG C4 with no competition. They get LGs panels after all. Sony A90K can’t compete with those newer TVs.
So following Sonys new lineup announcement today, it doesn’t look like we’re not getting a replacement for the A90K. Do we think they will release a replacement in the second half of the year for that TV?
Would you go 77” Samsung S90C or 65” LG G3? Mainly for TV and movie watching and some gaming.
Go size if price the same
LG G3 OLED is better than S90C
is the vrr flickering still visible like on the models before?
Yeah I’m wondering that too. I absolutely love my LG C2 as a PC monitor but its one and only major downfall is the gsync/vrr flickering is really annoying
Does the A90K still have better processing and detail?
I got LG C2 42" and RTX4090 but kinda want the new 32" oled 4k 240hz with dual mode (1080p 480hz)
Brian! I'm torn. I have a 42C2 i use for work and gaming. I was thinking of upgrading to a 32" QD OLED monitor (one of the 2024 models). Then I started thinking of perhaps using a 55" Samsung QD OLED. Then I was thinking maybe that is too big. With this video, im thinking of swapping the 42C2 to a 42C4. What i like about the C series - 4 x hdmi 2.1 ports, glossy screen, dolby vision, apps built in. The QD Oled monitor has a bit higher peak brightness, better color luminance, higher refresh rate, a bit more comfortable screen size. The QD OLED tv would be the brightest, high color luminance, but I'd be about 3 feet away (if gaming, i could probably scoot back but while working, id be about 3-4 feet from the screen). Hmm. Help!
Honestly I love the 42 C4 but is It enough of an upgrade? I'd so no at the same size. The QD-OLED monitors are very cool but seldom match the peak brightness of the QD-OLED TV'S. 55" QD-OLED would be a great solution but might be too big . I go 48" C4. You get the upgrades and the C series signature you love but also a bit more size
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY Thank you so much brother! I appreciate the reply and suggestion! I never thought about the 48"!

Does it upscale as good as the sony’s XR processor? Does it have that kind of 3d effect?
Nothing is even close the sony xr processor especially with reality creation feature on....but the lg tvs have much less input lag and higher refresh rate
I was out tonight in a bar, and they had massive TVs displaying a soccer game. One screen looked really good, the other one however was way too bright for that environment.
Brightness is not everything..
Ist not about total brightness. Its about specular highlights. In order to reach that, max beightness matters alot
Let us know if LG is still locking peak brightness for SDR gaming please 😎
I will
Can’t wait for the g4 83 it’s definitely the best of 2024 if not the best than one of the best oleds of 24’

My C2 has damaged pixels and Richersounds will only offer a voucher. So unsure in which to get next for PC
Looking to upgrade my tv for gaming/movies what would you recommend a 65 inch g4 or a 77 inch c4
go for LG G4 - G4 is flagship tv
G4 definitely.
I'm was waiting for the 32' QD Oled monitors, but this video made me look up this 42' realm.
Here right now: C4 42' 1300€ / AW3225QF 1400€ (no stock) / PG32UCDM 1500€ (no stock) / C3 42' 800€
Appart from the 144hz vs 120hz, are there any major differences in this 42' C4 vs C3? Dont really care about the tv os since it'll be a monitor.
other than what 15-20ish nit brighter and 24hz faster on pc not worth the price from the c3 for the c4
I hope LG releases the C5 in the mid-30-inch range. Perfect size for a monitor then.
Most people do not realize how Fine Tune Dark Area and HGIG are amazing for HDR gaming.
WOW! that's a new one "Dolby Vision PC"
I’ve just bought this TV. It’s the first time I’ve opted for LG over Sony, but I just couldn’t justify getting the A90K with it being over two years old at this stage. I just hope the LG C4 impresses when it arrives. Really wished Sony would’ve come out with an A90K succcessor this year
So how does it compare to Sony ?
Was this impressive enough
Should i change my 42c2 on 42c4? Rtx 4080 pc)
Backlit remote 2025 C5 please.
So is it mugish to buy the C3 @ 120hz if you’re rocking a 7800x3d and 4090. Difference between 120 & 144 is notable to me unfortunately 😢
I mean, if you need every single frame, it might be worth it. Having a high end graphics card I'd want to max it
Do you think the 42" and 48" C4s are brighter than the 32" QD-Oled monitor options from Asus/MSI/Gigabyte that are hitting the market right now and here soon?
I do! I really like the QD-OLED monitors but even the ones from SAMSUNG aren't very bright. However at the monitors size they don't need to be very bright
100% for sure. I have both C2 42" and MSI 32URX monitor, the HDR on new QD-OLED monitor can not beat the HDR on these TVs. I'm thinking of returning the MSI and back to my C2 42" since I'm used to the big size and more brightness in HDR contents
@@dangcao3370 I appreciate the feedback at least I know now to just go for the 42" C4 then.

we dont know if its overlooked we didnt have either of them it hasnt even really been in reviewers/youtubers hands :) so they can compare to other new tv's :)
I've not got a big front room and my current 43 inch Samsung is arguably too big for it
How does this compare to the new Samsung 42inch Oled however
This beats it as the LG C4 has better processing and feature set including Dolby Vision. The Samsungs at the 42" size are not QD-OLEDs so they have absolutely no advantage. C4 easy choice my friend

I have the 45” OLED and if you’re using it for gaming the poor ppi is overblown and I’d go 21:9 at 1440p with an 800R curve over this. For gaming that is.
I’ll be picking up a 42” OLED for all other stuff.
LG has a new oled monitor with some crazy specs. I'll try to review it! Thank you so much for watching
How are things on OLED today with "Black crush"? This is critical for the monitor, otherwise the monitor would not be a monitor if it did not have higher quality standards than the TV. Why Sony abandoned the OLED matrix in their new bvm Hx310...
Is the stream supposed to be capped at 1080p?
Don't think so, mine is also available in 1440p and 4k

When i enable 144hz on this tv the colors are extremely washed out is that normal? Im using a 4080 and hdmi 2.1. Nothing i do can fix this other than turning off 144hz and puting it on 120hz. I tried enabling and disabling HDR and entire PC is wash out no matter what i do unless i switch off 144hz.
POSSIBLE FIX: I noticed you have VRR set to OFF, this might actually be it as i noticed the washed out colors after i enabled g-sync.
Is the 500 Euro/Dollar price compared to the C3 worth it? 120hz vs 144hz
Yes the C4 is definitely worth the upgrade. It's a bigger jump then most of us thought it would be . Highly recommended

Brian, in all honesty, is it really better than the C3? For me just doesn’t seem so, what do you think?
It's not night and day. The C3 is still incredible. If you don't need 144hz or dolby Vision filmaker mode, then grab the C3. The c4 also has the professional tone mapping feature. There are these features and if you don't need them then c3

Stay away from the QN90D. I had one for a few days and returned to Best Buy yesterday. Overall, the picture is very bright, which is what I was after. However, I was actually unaware it was a VA panel vs the ADS Pro panel. Typical issues of VA are present and also there are some contrast and tone mapping issues that are not present on OLED. The picture just seems very processed and overly saturated. I’m expecting the C4 to blow me away!
@@MistaVauros You try some game??? What can you say about Ghost?
@@ramonzaions7522 I played HellDivers 2 and Destiny 2. Destiny in particular did not look as good as I’ve seen on other screens in terms of HDR, tone mapping, and dark details
How does it hold up with input lag with like call of duty ?
It's absurd Paulie
Very good, as good as a competitive gaming TN monitor. Set it to game mode and 120hz. If on 60hz, enable "boost"
How aggressive is the ABL?
It didn't dim once with all my hours with it my friend
It's never a problem. Maybe when reviewing PDF's or writing documents and you're stationary. Also speaking of this, set your Word theme to "grey" so you get better brightness on your pages (full screen white lowers your brightness)
What about the 77" C4 does it get bright, the 42" is no comparison Brian
77" cost more than the 77" G3 and way more than the 77" S90C so idk if it's even worth it.
@@_M.... The G3 is a better buy. Higher product line, this is just a slight upgrade over C3
@@phantomflame0658 I know. This tv cost way too much, ridiculous price.
How do you like c4 vs a80l both in 83?
I'd still give the A80L the edge in pure movie watching. For gaming the C4 has many more features. All depends on what you are doing with it
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPYHow close is picture quality of C4 for movie watching compared to A80L
0:17 I really want to know the name of this demo I can't find it 🤔
