- Friedrich Daniel Rudolf Kuhlau (11 September 1786 - 12 March 1832) was a German-born Danish composer during the Classical and Romantic periods. He was a central figure of the Danish Golden Age and is immortalized in Danish cultural history through his music for Elves' Hill, the first true work of Danish National Romanticism and a concealed tribute to the absolute monarchy. To this day it is his version of this melody which is the definitive arrangement.

Here because of my fond memory of the Olsen Banden
The menuetto (at 43) is still very popular as tune to homemade songs e.g. written for special occasions. We do that sometimes for celebrations or partys. My brother and his family used this tune to a song for my 40 years birthday.
Here's a song about a chemicist who died from misreading the label of a bottle:
"Hr. Jensen han var kemiker
det er han ikke mere
for han tog fejl af H2O
og H2-SO4.
Han kunne ikke tåle det
så han gik hen og døde
og derfor står hans lejlighed
nu tom, forladt og øde!"
Even though F. Kuhlau was born in Germany, he ended up in Copenhagen in 1810. He became a professor and composed the fabulous "Elverhøj" which include the danish royal anthem "Kong Christian stod ved højen mast".

Das alles erinnert mich an die wunderbaren Zeiten, in denen meine Onkel Gert Abramczyk als Organist an der deutschen Petrikirche Kopenhagen tätig war und auch als Dozent an der dänischen Abendschule für Lehrerbildung. Er brachte zusammen mit seiner Frau Lisbeth mir die dänische Kultur nahe, die ich seitdem liebe.
