Despite some of the different information out there regarding any of the "Six Eyed Sand Spider" subspecies (I believe there is more than one), it is just a safe to treat them with respect. Heck, I took measures so I would not have gotten bitten by my pet corn snakes that I used to have. I believe if you treat things with respect and understanding that it is possible for just about anything to pose a danger to you, you will be better off. It is like owning a firearm. You always treat it as if it is loaded. I do not care if you just checked it. I have my opinions on pets, keeping animals and handling certain ones. I am definitely more "conservative" in these regards. I am not too judgmental of those that differ, except some of the techniques for handling venomous snakes. I will keep my opinions to myself though, since it can be an argumentative subject. lol Excellent video Dave! Please thank the camera lady and keep up the great work! Cheers!

I totally agree with you and this is why I have not been bitten in 40 years by either spiders or venomous snakes 👍and yes every gun is a loaded gun until proved safe 👍

Only because I'm a loyal follower of Dave and his channel, and knowing his two Six Eyes are safely across the Atlantic, could I bolster my courage to watch this.
To me, Sicarius is the ugliest and most terrifying object, living or dead, that the world possesses. It's a combination of the sinister body shape, how the legs curl wickedly forward, the disgusting abdomen, its pounce, its vile frantic scuttle, and most of all the way it vibrates to hide its hideous self.
Dave, you didn't say "What a lovely spider it is!" like you cheerfully do with your tarantulas, so thank you for that. And thanks for not letting it jump out and run around the room.

I totally agree with you. @lurkmour3926 They give me the creeps and sent a shiver down my spine. To be honest it was a relief to see those lids go back on ! Dave I have watched you for years, You have helped me loose my deep fear of spiders and I really enjoy your informative videos. But these horrors are what nightmares are made of...that's going a step too far for me. No, no, they are not beautiful or loveable... no way,...Ugh (Sorry xx)

hi dave been watching for a while now and just wanted to say, ever since i was a small child i have been absolutely terrified of spiders, however they have always fascinated me, im happy to say that even i have considered a few of the species you own as a "pet"(sorry i still use that term loosely) XD, in particular the brazillian jewel, beautiful colours. the point of my ramblings were simply to highlight my immediate reaction of goosebumps and cold chills have subsided, and i can now encounter spiders around my home without immediately running in fear so thankyou, you and your spiders have been pivotal in my "curing" so thankyou! keep up the videos i always enjoy learning about different species.

The venom they have is such a valuable resource, it makes sense that their instincts are to run and hide versus being more defensive.
amazing the thought that you had to make an enclosure for them, ha ha ha PROFF. the venom must be very strong and dangerous so care must be taken. great video with the information on these spiders and another project in the making to pairing them if possible. I watched some of those versus videos and this thing absolutely blitzed anything they put in there with it. Fastest acting venom ive ever seen before. You have to feel for the other spider or predatory insect as it squirms around violently in pain before it quickly stops. Dont condone watching those videos no enjoy what happens to the other insect Im just curious as ever. Great video Dave. Yes these spiders are found here in South Africa... I came across them

These spiders are extremely terrifying to me I also can’t cope with Huntsman it may well be their legs that freak me out! I am fascinated by these spiders how they live and how often they feed is crazy, living in a desert is such harsh conditions I am always surprised that any life can survive!

Don't worry, that's very normal. Science is trying to understand why arachnids freak many people out as much as they do and the theories often have something to do with our brains not really being capable of analyzing as many fast moving legs. So we get an overload and a flight response. Of course it's not 100% confirmed, but relatively commonly shared.

Here in Norway, the biggest spider is the "mudspider" with its 2cm body length ( 0.80 inches) 😂 and the most dangerous is probably E.atrica. House spider. One and only because it frightens the water off 80% of us Norwegians every day🕷

While moving a stack of firewood in Louisiana, USA about 40 years ago, I was bitten by what I think was a brown recluse. I neither saw the spider nor felt the bite, but a blister about a cm wide showed up on my wrist that gave way to an ulcer the same size that lasted almost a year and left me with a white scar that is still visible. Respect these spiders.

They hunt like a crab spider. I do enjoy your videos one this species. I have to remind myself that I've only been in the hobby for a year, and im not experienced enough to handle a six eyed sand spider. Heck! I only have 4 tarantulas. All new worlds: 2 Avicularia avicularia( one sling and one juvenile) 1 A. seemanni (juvenile) and 1 Brachypelma albiceps (sling)Lol btw i live in Indiana.

My favorite thing about desert species is that they require nothing and still have stupid long live spans. As opposed to like random jungle species that are more fragile than anything I'd ever imagined.

I don't know I think we are being too mean at 9:25 to the lil fella, looking at it they only bit once they made eye contact. I think the spider set up an elaborate jump scare! If so, far from pathetic, we just got a clear drama queen on our figurative hands. :D

Very informative video. Just wanted to point out that Sicarius thomisoides is not from Africa. It's South American. All of the African sicariids were moved into the genus Hexophtalma a few years back.

Considering how "different" they are from our normal spiders, I'm really interested in seeing a pairing from this species from you guys and how it plays out! Although possessing a relatively strong Venom, I don't believe these deserve DWAA licensing TBH, The Act was set up to protect the Public from escaped animals that are Potentially dangerous.... Owning a Licence does not protect the Keeper in any way. Adding to this the inability to climb glass and plastic, should prevent any chance of escape, if housed properly. The availability of this Species is very limited & any reputable seller WILL ONLY sell to someone experienced, some even insist on over 18's only.... A very interesting Species for sure, the way they sit makes me think of a " Terrestrial Huntsman ".

How is the spider that came in on packaging from Australia doing? It is grey and about the size of the sicarius you are showing now.

In Australia we have the white tailed spider that can cause necrosis…
That is not so , Lampona the White tail is unfairly labled , does not have a necrotic venom , it can happen if a bacteria is on the chilliserea when bitten , but any spider can have this problem, cheers

I've been bitten by a brown recluse twice in my life, both when I was a kid. They're extremely common here in Kentucky. The first time was late at night, I got up to use the bathroom and it bit me on the foot. I went to the ER and my leg swelled up for a few hours, some bruising and pain, no big deal. The second time I was going to the bathroom late at night again and the spider walked right up to my toe and bit me. I just stood there watching it, I was super tired I guess. Odd behavior for both of us I'd say. It had no effect, either it was a dry bite or I built up an immunity from the first bite, who knows. But I really want to get one of these spiders. I like the idea of a box of sand with a secret.

The sand spiders remind me of those fish in the ocean who cover themselves in sand and wait for pray to wander past. Can't remember what they're called could be an angler fish or a rock fish, anyway they hide and wait. Must work they've been around forever.

Those spiders look so primitive, like we’re seeing something from an earlier age of the world. In their colorless dustiness and fitful movements they remind me of ant lions.
If it weren’t for the venom, sand spiders would probably be the easiest spider to keep, because it’s literally a box of sand

I always thought that these spiders were more related to Huntsman Spiders.
Michigan here 👋 My brother in law was bitten by a recluse. He had to go to the emergency room, and be treated for blood poisoning. It was not pretty! Mentioning the recluse tends to cause shivers of fear around here! Lol
as for any bite, get medical attention asap. One way to immediately draw venom out if bitten you can slice a starchy potato and put it on the bite, it will draw the venom out and may save your life, just don't completely depend on the potato to pull it all out.
Old wives tales once in your blood stream no potato is going to help 😂👍
