I'm so glad you have confirmed that filing back and forth is OK. For many years I tried to file only in one direction but could never get the shape quite right. Its SO much easier back and forth.❤
I learn so much from your videos. Simple, healthy looking nails makes you feel polished. No pun intended 😊 and you have beautiful nails. Very soothing to watch.
This video was extremely helpful. Quality was NOT an issue. You got your point across with what and how we use the tools we have to achieve great results. Short manicured nails are always chic. Thank you for your very informative videos.
Thank you again for your professional tutorials. I wish all nail care specialists had your expertise and dedication. As a 74- year old, I have seen such an improvement in my nails as well as having learned the right way to do manicures.
I loved the violin analogy (and the on cue music)! Sometimes I break my gentle manicure habits because “I dont have time”. Then my nails and skin end up missing the care. This was a great video to remind me it doesn’t have to be all the steps. Done is better than perfect/all the steps.
For the month or so that I’ve been following your advice, my natural nails look amazing. Sure, I still have a little more damage to grow out, but the stretched and stuck skin, peeling skin, etc., no longer exists. Keep filing the nails shorter as I can, to be free from the damage and minimize greater damage, and my nails just feel stronger, hydrated, flexible. I wish wish WISH I would’ve taken a “before” pic!!!
The violin reference and music are enchanting! I also only need to perform a quick weekly home maintenance mani since I follow gentle manicures and use oils and Kerasal daily. Thank for another expertly done video and voice over.
I get hard skin along the sides of my nails, and although I never bit my nails, I would bite the skin off the sides. So my nails could look ok with polish, but my fingers always looked terrible because of the raggedly skin. I graduated to having a v-shaped sort of slicer tool that would slice it off when I did a mani, but still didn't ever look "finished". Now, because of the kerasal (that I use nightly) and you having shown how to gently file the skin down, I can have decent looking manicures 😊. Thank you!!!
Love the violin analogy and sound-track! My nails are much improved thanks to your advice, Anna-- Dazzledry sets better than any other of my earlier products, which keeps me from picking off soft polish and damaging my outer nail layers. Even peeling off of water-based polish had previously caused nail-plate damage hence peeling. Many thanks! I have purchased through your links, and am enjoying the astonishing results~~💞
I love these maintenance videos. They are sooo helpful for me. I like my nails short. Desperately need to heal the skin around my nails, and hate polish on my fingernails. I just want them to look health. They grow really fast and pulling out the clippers has always felt like such a chore. It never occurred to me to use a file to manage the length until I watched your videos. That has been a game changer for me.
Thank you so very Anna for an excellent and inspiring self-manicure tutorial 👏🏽 Since a bad experience with gel nails 🥲 I converted to self care and jojoba oil treatment, and my nails have never looked healthier, more beautiful and lady-like. I reserve Saturday afternoons for my nail care 😎
I really have appreciated your advice on nail care. I used acrylic for years and since I've been using jojoba oil daily my nails have really improved. Unfortunately I have one nail the shows a white line that continues from the nail bed and it cracks mid way up my nail. I stopped using an efile and this also has helped my nails. Thanks for your videos on how to grow beautiful natural nails.
Nice to see you do your truly real life quick manicure Anna. I used to move my dominant nails against the file but I've managed to train myself to use the file the same as I do on my non dominant hand... 😊
Well done! I missed your live program yesterday-searching for it. I'm also on Vol 3 of Doug Schoon's face to face series. I think Vol 2 and Vol 3 are my favorites.
Half way through your beautiful video, I started doing my nails the same. I looked down at mine and thought, ok I have 30mins. You have such a lovely soothing voice too. Xxx
I really enjoy watching you do you nails and celebrating the natural nails. You motivate me to do better. I have to confess that I've not been taking good care of mine because I often feel that it is pointless. I am a horse owner and do a lot of yard work. I tend to use a nail clipper once a week after my shower to shorten my nails and I leave it at that. I like them short. Coloured polish doesn't even last one day on my nails, and when I use it on holidays I get a lot of nail surface damage and peeling from wearing nail polish. I find it very damaging. Do you have any tips for having pretty nails for people who have hard working hands?
I'm getting back to repairing my natural nails thanks to you and your tips. I used to get acrylic nails and gel polish which both weakened them. Did you ever like or get enhancements on your nails or have you always liked the natural nails? Just me being nosey 😅 love your videos
I always enjoy your videos and have learned SO much from you. I think the biggest lesson has been to stop cutting the proximal nail fold which I always thought you were supposed to do and not to buff as I learned through your videos that I had surface damage on all of my nails as well as toenails thinking that I was supposed to buff the ridges out and that the goal was to make them smooth. Everything has grown out now and I keep them short. I use Karasal as per your videos as well as jojoba oil after each handwashing. I would like to venture into mixing it with avocado oil since the skin around my nails tends to be dry. Do you have a trusted vender where you purchase your avocado oil or am I overthinking where I purchase the oil from as I worry about the purity of it. Thank you!❤
Thank you! I love these kinds of videos when I’m learning and relaxing at the same time! Educational ones are what keep me watching. Thank you for your generous time and honest common sense approach to nail health/care. ❤
I have just found your channel and it is so hypnotizing! I have only ever gotten a manicure once in my life - it was in 2004 for my mom's wedding and I got acrylic French manicure or something. I hated it and have never gotten my nails done ever since. I don't do anything to my nails but trim them with clippers when my typing ability degrades due to length lol. I want to just have healthy looking nails and build better nail habits (since I don't really have any). I am not sure even where to begin and I am frankly overwhelmed by the thought of going to a salon. May I send you pictures of my nails for advice on where to start?
I always enjoy watching your videos. I started using johoba oil when I first started watching your videos. So far I have not mixed it with anything yet. I do have dry skin around my nails and would like to try the avocado oil you spoke of today. I have hesitated with mixing the oils as I was concerned about the quality of them. Do you have a trusted place you order your oils from or does it even matter the vender and I am overthinking this. Thank you!
Love when you do your own nails…I would ask you to do a video, on what to do if someone hits their toe nail and it detaches but it’s still on the toe, this just happened to me yesterday 😢😢😢@TheSalonLife
Thank you for your lovely message! Just let the toe heal a bit and if it bothers you then go and see podiatrist or chiropodist, a medical professional because this might not be just a cosmetic issue if there is pain or bleeding. Toes take a long time to regrow so it might take a while for the nail to get better. Sometimes up to 18 months if it's a big toe...
That happened to me once. Eventually it fell off on its own and I could already see the new nail starting to grow. I had to wrap up the toe for a while but it took less time to grow in than I thought it would.
Hi Anna!! I'm in my natural nail growing journey. My nails are very damaged following gels and acrylics. I don't think they'll be fully grown out til December. I'm using OPI Repair More and a home made nail and cuticle Oil, as well as Qtica at the moment. I'm right at the point of having acrylics reapplied, because I detest my nails being this short, and this....ugly. I'm trying to be patient.
Wish my nail beds were that length (before you started working on them) My nails are short, once they get a little longer they are already sticking out from the skin
I have been using Repair mode since the end of July (since i got my gel polish removed) and it seems like it helped. I hit my thumbnails and the nail started peeling on the affected area. Suprisingly the peeling layer seemed like it was glued togehter and wasn't snagging on my hair or anything. I cant wait to grow my nails out from the damage i have from gel polish and the breakage. I have been listening and following your advice since then. Decided to not wear gel polish and not cut the skin around the nails and let my nails grow out. I also stopped wearing nail polish because i noticed my nails peel a lot because of it and they are in better condition with nothing on them. My newly growing nails and skin already look so much better and beautiful. 1/3 of my nail plates have grown out since I got my gel polish removed.
Hi Anna, what a great video as always ❤. I do have a question in witch store in lloret del mar is it possible to purchase the kerasal? I’ve bought a bodylotion from instituto espanol with 10% urea does that also work for dry and somere times hard cuticles?
Do you know if Dior reformulated the nail glow or discontinued it?? They have a new one on the site and it just looks like it’d be clear on the nails 😭😭😭
How do you feel about the glass cuticle pushers? The edges have a slight roughness so it helps to remove the dead cuticle but not sure if this is good for my nails.
Have you ever tried emu oil? As a skincare professional I highly recommend emu because it is simular to our natural skin’s oils. The ultra clear or fully refined are the best.
Yes I have heard about emu oil. The thing is that although skin and nail structures are similar they are not the same. What is beneficial for the skin might not be that beneficial for nail plate (which is very dense) Also, considering that so many people are into vegan cosmetics now, emu oil for many people would not be the best choice. “Emu Oil is extracted from the thick fat on the emu's back. To remove the oil and the surrounding fat, the emu has to be killed. Although edible, emu meat is considered pretty unappetising and tough - so emus are really only being 'harvested' for cosmetic oil purposes.” I’ll stick to jojoba :)
I like using glass files but they don’t say what grit they are! Can you explain about glass files? Are they all ok? Why don’t they give a grit number? TY!
Pure Vit E no. An oil just called “Vit E oil” maybe. Depending on the ingredients. Most of the carrier oils like grape seed, sunflower, safflower, almond oil are rich in Vit E anyway.
I use metal files at the salon and buffers are one time use only items. You have to follow your local guidelines as per proper sanitation and disinfection
I would not recommend it. You will also remove some surrounding natural nail. I would soak it off with acetone. Acetone can temporarily dry out the nail surface but it won’t remove nail layers
