I've just installed Lineage OS 17.1 on my 2015 Galaxy S4 T-I9505, using Lineage Recovery and not TRWP, it works fine for my purposes! Hope this smartphone lives another year so that my contribuition to electronic wastes pollution is the lowest possible :) thank you :)

@@luigigagliardi7477 No need to upgrade. More modern smartphones are mostly crap. I'm terribly annoyed ever since my S4 got destroyed in 2017. Every phone afterwards was rubbish.

Hardware hacks seems unheard off. I mean, phone hardwares are pretty much locked in. No such thing as swapable chips other than highly specific experiment modular phones.
New software on old phone? Mobile companies be like "We're already messing up old phones, their camera and battery, with the new updates so they'll buy new ones. If they get new OS on old phone's, we are screwed."
@@stel9178 They do send updates to make it slower and stuff to force you to buy new so they make more money. They lose it if you have a new OS on old devices, so the comment Ricky said is correct.
I have one S4 I9505 since 2013 and still is today my main smartphone whith the lineage os rom's, it is the best smartphone that i have bougth, long live for more years....

I do not know why but the recovery that I do download then does not work....is not touch and isn't possible to install the rom even if the rom and gapps are there copied into the device.....I tried now with many different guides and release of Android but the problem, at least for me, is that the recovery does not work...thanks
I'm planning to buy this phone because of its sensors. Does this custom rom support its sensors (magnetomoter, GPS, etc)? I will use it as a navigation device and needed the custom rom to support newer versions of maps. Thanks.

on Galaxy S4 I've found a bug in the "don't disturb mode", selecting allowed people it has done a mess with those contact, they have been deleted and one of the selectet contact now contains all the number of the ones deleted... I was not able to report it on the official lineage gitlab

S4 i9505 is NOT the international version. That's the North American Snapdragon version.

because the i9505 snapdragons bootloader is unlocked and has better ram management than the Exynos chip@@aItaccount

You need a custom recovery (twrp) only. Rooting is optional and can be done after flashing the ROM.
