Wonderful video series. I am trying to model a system of two mild steel plates tightened with a 8.8 grade bolt. I am having some challenges with excess deformations. Hope you can help. Currently i fixed the ends of the two plates with ENCASTRE BC and applied bolt preload. First i tried applying ZSYMM boundary conditions at the top and bottom surface of the bolt, later on I applied ZASYMM boundary condition, it didn't work either. These BCs i applied were based on many other similar youtube videos. Any suggestion would be appreciated!

The statement of the problem I’m looking for is a pretty common one I guess, and it is a structure with a pre-tension in the cables, such as in a cable bracing or the ropes for stabilizing an antenna mast. The most similar thing I’ve found is bolt force, or node displacement in an intermediate step, or cooling a part of the wire as a step, but it’s not what I’m actually trying to simulate. Nor is the prestressed of wires in concrete. Any help on the matter will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Very instructive video,thank you. I would like to ask if it'possible to apply pretensioning using Interaction, e.g. Coupling or similar, in place of the real bolt geometry. This could avoid a long assembly work in case of large number of bolts

Yes it is possible, for example, by modeling a link element that can be subjected to a thermal load to apply pretension.
