  • In this video Real FEA shows you how to model bolt pretension in a flange CAD. Pre-processing is done with Hypermesh and run and visualised with Abaqus. The final stress result is compared against the analytical result.
To model the preloading, bar (B31 type) and Kinematic Couplings elements are used which will save a lot of computational time.

I wonder why you take the pain to manage your model setup using HM while you can do it with Abaqus/CAE that is way much easier/faster/robust to prepare an Abaqus model ...

Hi, imagine you have a huge abaqus model. I always prefer to use HM as it gives you many more possibilities. Imagine you want to modify your model by setting pretension loads. I mean you can do it as you prefer but for the kind of models I normally use it is far better HM

why benefitting from hypermesh, couldnt we do samethings with only abaqus?

Using Hypermesh or Abaqus does not matter. It depends on what you prefer to use. In my case, I feel more comfortable using hypermesh but always taking in mind that the processor is Abaqus
