It's all part of the business. Sometimes it turns out to be something simple. Diag. charge is for your knowledge and experience, not based on how simple or complex the actual repair may be.
Ha! Welcome to my world in the UK! Crap info. Finding any wiring diagram, never mind a good one is a task in itself. Really, really, really, really frustrating. Personally I have a Z4 that i wanted an ABS wiring diagram on,...and could I find one? Err....No. Another superb video from our Ivan. Thank you. I'm moving to the States! Want an assistant?????
Next time try to remove the evap line from the bottom of the purge solenoid itself. There is a plastic tab that you can squeeze inward that'll let you pull the line off without breaking.
at the dealer we have a test plan for the dmtl pump. it activates the pump and seals off the vent. it will then run for a few minutes and check for major, minor, and micro leaks. it's a good test to see if the leak is currently present. but I've found that it's sometimes inaccurate in that it will say the system is leak free even though I still find a leak with the smoke machine. there is also a special tool we use to connect to the vent side of the dmtl to smoke it from the pump forward. because as you know the purge valve is a pain to get to. the tool is just a clear hose with the special plastic connector at the end haha
Very true. How in the heck will you know it's the gas cap straight off the start. Hmm this man has plenty of knowledge and resources. Thank you. Love from South California.
Nice ! Ivan my mother's friend came to me not to long ago with the same problem. Knowing she is 80 years young, I just tighten the cap, cleared the code and hoped my educated guess was right ! Car never returned and her worries were gone ! By the way it was going to be a freebee whether it was that simple or not ! Take Care !
I think you test the cap with an adapter that applies pressure then vacuum. I think caps protect the system from over pressures in case of a plugged vent valve. it also prevents a faulty purge valve and a plugged vent from sucking in and collapsing the tank. I saw it in a video
But car was stone cold when I pulled it in. Valve was actually energized all the time...maybe need to remove the key and lock the doors to put it to sleep?
Man Ivan you broke all that stuff for a loose gas cap lol. Just kidding you did a full test exactly what you should do when you have a leak code so you can be sure of the fix
Btw next time you need BMW wiring diagrams, check out this site: www.bmw-planet.net/diagrams/ -- it's got pages with descriptions of the various components and how they work and it's also got component locations and a complete index so you can find exactly what you need next time.
That Beemer doesn't look like a whole lot of fun to work on. I've done a few Volvos and VWs, but never a BMW. Hate when they cover everything with plastic ... like they're trying to hide something. Really liking that OTC unit - saw Eric O. had the same one a couple vids back. The problem with the paint can one is you can't tell if anything is flowing or not. That gauge is great. I might have to make the investment eventually. Best bang for the buck that I've found so far.
It's easy to check a gas cap....Go and buy an 800.00 fuel cap tester and then test at least 40 or more car's fuel caps so it can pay for itself...Just giving the sarcastic response to the naive that would ask ....Furthermore, assuming the cap passes, what then?...Still have to go thru the leak detection procedures as you did....Good job as usual Ive....
Hey Ivan, just remember; it's a BMW: With all of the news footage of the cars spontaneously combusting and blazing brightly, the smoke you see may not be from your smoke generator. If it's a Beemer, where there's smoke... grab an extinguisher. (BMW: Burn My Wheels)
I van you said there should be any pressure sensor or switch for feed back , well this system does not used switch pr sensor how they monitor fro leaks is when the dmt modules energize the pump is there is no leak in the system there should be harder for the pump or I should say some resistance , so they monitor the current over time and gas tank fuel level .
Excellent. I just found the description of the system last night, and you are 100% correct! Now I wonder as the system gets older, the motor current can change over the time as the motor wears out...would that cause a false code?
Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics yes it can change from wear ann mechanical resistance of the motor , I am smog technician and on one of my amog licence update class I had 16 hours . for evap system of any manufacture I learn that hands on vehicles every system the teacher knew what was wrong and after as going on theory we had to find the problems on vehicles . it was at skyline colleague I was surprise that the school had like 15 diferente vehicles . any way the dm pump.is used on Europeans kia , Hyundai same set up but Chrysler is using the same principal if current to to test for leaks , I learn there on gm first thing to check for evap leaks codes is the pressure sensor data koef. as this is very common failures, the sensor resistance goes open = 5 volts computer asumes fulm vaccum you get codes fir leaks or vent solenoid circuits but never fir sensor. Nissan use a temperature sensor and the principal fir them are as the pressure increases the temperture increase too. nice chatting with you Ivan since I am your fan I have learn a lot from you . I have a question I just bough a pico scope anf I have ti create customs probes . like for example my pressure tranducer is at 330 mv = 0 sea level and each 1 mv = to 1 psi can you help me how ti create this please the scope is still on the box . thank you
Nice video Ivan 👍only thing I would say is with reference to your wiring diagram and tech info just buy an hour on the BMW portal everything you need is available I hear all the time people carnt get diagrams or info etc but it genuinely is all available as long as you are willing to buy it.
many older BMW gas hatches have a spring loaded click mechanism, just push in the rear of the hatch it release and pops it out slightly, when you close it, it resets the spring mechanism. was funny seeing you open it, funnier yet was me trying to start the first keyless one I had to move, cussed it for over 5 minutes. not used to having to step on brakes to start a car :))
Actually I've let it go quite a bit. Just enough work input for it to be functional and reliable. Driving around the hills without second gear is a PITA and I found a good deal on a used tranny so why not swap it out :)
I am having the same problem on my 2003 BMW Z for 3.0 convertible, I bought a new gas cap after cleaning the existing one that was the green type. The new one sold on Amazon and eBay alike. Looks just like yours and when I put that one on the “check gas cap“ light started coming on more frequently. It seems like it only happens during cold weather conditions but it’s been cold lately and I need to get my inspection. Done to renew my tag. I already replaced the solenoid. The one in the engine compartment that allows vapors to be burned, flowing through the intake but from what I see I imagine it’s the gas cap and or possibly a fuel line leak, or Yvette line leak above the fuel tank. Normally on these cars when you hit the unlock button for the doors, a solenoid also unlocks the fuel cap where it can be pressed open that is broken on my car and so I am wondering if the fuel cap that the car came with when I bought, it is actually the proper fuel cap for the car. Somebody has been doing something back there. I just can’t tell what. These are great cars and it is nice to deal with small problems, but even the smallest of problem with eve app system she’s fd us
I thought the gas cap was the first place we checked for this problem. Sure, the smoke test verifies it, but the slight leak is most often the gas cap being either faulty, or very often just not tightened properly. Many techs will check the cap and then clear the code. I know many vehicle owners that have been trained to reseat / tighten the gas cap when they get a CEL soon after getting fuel.
Understood, plus the overall troubleshooting exercise is good practice. As we know it's not always going to be as easy as the gas cap and it's good to understand the steps in effective troubleshooting which I enjoy seeing / learning from on your channel. Thank you for your contributions. They're always appreciated.
looked like original cap, so if over 3 years old/high millage, always replace them. in Ohio counties where they have e-check, they pressure test gas caps and give you a new one if it leaks, if they don't have one, you get a $5 gift card and have to get it yourself.
The DME (ECM) measures motor current as it pumps against an orifice, then measures current as it pumps against the canister and fuel tank via solenoid valve.
Hey Ivan. Why don't you break some lines then check the fuel cap? LOL Side note I maintain stock of black silicone vacuum lines for just these situations. Look better and last longer than what you get in the parts stores.
What did u end up doing with the cvt? Used or reman? Same question with the MPV? We wouldn't have learned anything if u just clicked the gas cap. Seeing your research methods was great. When I go on BBB industries with my iPad it just doesn't give me anything. Do u have to use a laptop?
Hi I was sure you were going to find a small leak at the DMTL connector on some BMW it's common usually what I do is unplugged the air filter hose at the DMTL and then cap it off then unplug the connector to see if smoke would come out obviously I check the cap if it will leak I have seen some caps with cracked rubber seal you can buy them separately lastly make sure the purge valve at the motor seals properly I know with experience on VW with the engine code BPY the 2.0 litres turbo engine the one with a timing belt is prone to leak and trigger EVAP fault codes and buy the way you're Girls friend or wife is really pretty and seems to have a real good sense of humour bye driving an antique vehicle to work.
Wow, that Mazda MPV is in rough shape.. but great to have for a spare vehical with cheaper plates :-) not sure what you guys pay a year to plate a historic vehical, here in Toronto it's 18$ for the yearly historic plate sticker. regular plate stickers are 120$
love watching your thought process. just wondering if i missed it but did u ever check the purge valve? it looked like you bypassed it to smoke the system. Obviously you found the problem was just wondering. Oh and mitchell is the same way with info on Euro cars
Great question. Generally I would have checked the purge valve, but on this thing it was a pain to adapt a hose to, and the smoke check did indeed reveal a leak elsewhere :)
that hot to the touch solenoid is! a coolant cutout valve to the heater core, in other words, no coolant flow to heater core when you are using air conditioning in hot summer days..
the hot soleind you touched is the solenoid for the heater control valve. even with the car off and cool it heats like crazy. By the way you can find english diagrams on internet
For some reason i thought Ivan was going to show us a cool new paint can smoke tester that we can all try out on our junkers. Instead he pulls out the big guns, OTC's smoke breathing dragon...lol...so jelous. :)
Keep up the great videos Ivan! Hey all the videos can't be knockouts! Some just go the distance. Sorry just got done watching UFC fight night. Keep it up brother! PS I'm still using my paint can! Lol!
Ivan whats holding that 'antique' MPV together? Can only speculate what the BM dealer would have charged the customer for the diag and 'fix' $$$$ (classic tighten the gas cap!).
Ivan, I use alldata diy and I find that it is very hit or miss too. Sometimes they have a wealth of information and other times absolutely nothing. Do you recommend another service? Mitchell? Someone else?
Hey Ivan nice video!!!! I wondered about them solenoids too a friend of mine has a 2003 BMW 525i with the same engine. I was checking the Cam and Crank sensors and got burned by those solenoids they were extremely hot.
Every problem can't be space age weired... But I didn't know that DMTL stands for "Diagnostic Module for fuel Tank Leakage" so that we just learned also to chewck the cap on thoes BMWs...
It's frustrating when you can't find the info needed to diagnose a problem but if the manufacture will not release the info you're almost outta luck. With a little know how you were able to find the problem. I would say that at least half the evap leaks i find are fuel cap, filler tube rust and corrosion related. If i'm in doubt weather the cap was't tight enough or not i replace the cap because i know it will come back to bite me. Personally i don't even like opening the hood on those things.
I've noticed that you have multiple diagnostic scanners. Am I to assume that certain models do not do certain functions and others do? I'm looking at the Verus Pro. Any suggestions?
very good fix actually as it was a tricky gas cap and i doubt a standard DIY guy like me would have picked that leak up without a smoke machine lol however it might have self fixed at the next tank fillup maybeeeeeeee..ive seem quite a few gas cap leak youtube videos over the years and it still amazes me how a bad cap seal can throw a leak code, lucky i have not had one leak on us so far..
use your nose at the gas cap! put a jack with wood block under the tank and put light pressure on it, to pressurize the tank slightly sniff sniff sniff ;)
Correct procedure in diagnosis as there could have been a number of possible faults. A methodical system, in the long term, always ends up the winner. Don't be fooled with the quick fix attitude ---- a fatalistic approach. Mrs Ivan looks as pretty as ever !!
Every time you show a BMW Ivan, it looks like they are aggravating vehicles to work on where there is little information. And let's not forget the 'Power of German Engineering'. WTF was going on with that hose. One thing I've learned about the engineers from Germany is that they are not going to use any common sense in their thoughts to make something simple. What would seem so obvious in a design will have to be made as complicated as possible. Fortunately, I haven't worked on one of these things and I am not looking forward to it either. Great work Ivan and was wondering why you just didn't tightened the gas cap :) Hold on Ivan, I'm just joking and I agree with everything that you said about doing a leak test. Have a good one and moving on to your next video on the tranny!
Good video, you're right, if you disturb anything before testing you'll never be certain of the problem. Those BMW intake manifolds and all the crap buried under them are a nightmare. On a side note that's why the wife was smiling so much, you were nekked!! LOL I couldn't help myself. Very beautiful girl.
Yes Sir, 15 years ago ,I bought this BMW e46 4D, I asked a friend of mine who owns a small shop , why Alldata doesn't provide information on BMW fault code. The main reason is BMW wants you to bring your car to BMW service dealer only. First the stealership wants to charge you for diagnosis which you already know, then they can charge you for parts and labor. PERIOD.
Have also seen connectors with separate plastic locking tabs&pins... Thoes are like the worlds most fragile mechanical puzzle, like a jenga that never falls apart...
Autel has bi directional and the basic Hynes books have info...Bentley makes the shop manuals....bmw T.I.S is a low cost ($50)+- technical information source..Ivan you found one of the worst systems in the bmw system...BMW had troubles with the PCV and Emissions control so they have always cheaped out on these but their mindset was it's going to fail so put "quik" connects and replace every 10 years or so....
Crazy what can be found by a visual inspection. That leak tamer is a game changer however! By the way, I'm telling your wife a hot girl sowed up in your car. (ha ha)
Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics that solenoid is used for the heater control system. only if the car has dual climate control (passenger and driver individual heat settings) I think the heater core has two separate inlets. if you look at the firewall you'll see that the heater core has 3 hoses coming from it. the valve can control coolant feed to each side of the heater core and it has a common drain. that valve is normally open when not energized for a failsafe of the valve. but it is normal for it to be hot when the ignition is on.
It's actually a switching valve for the heater core. First the air from the blower is cooled all the way by the evaporator and then it's heated back up by the heater core until you've got the commanded temp so the system needs a way to pulse coolant to the heater core to control it's temperature.
Ivan, great video's and a beautiful lady! Would be interested in finding out where abouts in PA you are, just up the road from me is my guess. Would love to have you come watch my wife drive her demolition derby cars that she builds (Yes mostly her now that I've taught her a lot)... But onto my pet peeve, it's NOT the fault of Alldata (someData),. They provide all of the information provided by the manufacturer. Same as Identifix and all the others.
EVAP leaks are 90% loose gas caps because the seals go bad on the cap, or people forget to turn it until it clicks. Im a BMW Tech in Dallas. And yes, BMW loves their dumb plastic hose connectors. LOL
How is it possible that your clapped out MPV is legal to drive in PA? Don't they have state inspection there that prevents rusted out hunks like that from getting a sticker? If you had that out here in AZ there wouldn't be any paint on it after all of these years ( a condition that we refer to as Arizona Road Rash) but the car would be completely rust free. It's sort of funny Ivan, When I lived in Pittsburgh, and worked in a bodyshop as a painter while I was going through graduate school at Pitt, we never painted complete cars as they typically were rusted out so badly there wasn't any point to it. Out here in Arizona having you car completely re-painted every seven years is more or less completely normal. I have a close friend that owns a Maaco and he's making money hand over fist. He's probably looking into banks in the Cayman Islands to hide some of it. Paints about 15 complete cars and light trucks a week. He has a true production line. You going to trailer that Nissan up to Eric O for the transmission change? It would sure be easier with his lifts and the two of you working together to get it done and would make some great videos.
Quote from PA BMV... "Antique vehicles are not subject to the annual vehicle safety inspection. Antique and classic vehicles are not subject to emissions inspection." not supposed to daily drive them either, naughty Ivan :)))
Working with my son on an engine swap of a 2006 x5 3.0l Them Germans really like plastic and O rings. Luckily you can get a lot of that plastic hose crap on ebay fairly cheap now. If you work on a BMW your gonna break some plastic
Ivan , good job better to be safe then sorry when it comes to evap codes , Nice to finally see the wife wow pretty lady , How did she end up with you lol Just joking :)
Ivan you have a beautiful wife. I feel so bad for her. I know what it's like to not get to drive your car. no matter what you always want your own car back!
BMW, Bankrupt My Wallet. You'd think a fancy vehicle like this would have what my 2001 Buick lesabre has which is a loose gas cap notice that comes up on the display on the instrument cluster, I guess they want you to go the dealer have it diagnosed then they'll sell you a brand new genuine BMW gas cap for a thousand dollars, plus shop time and tax, people who buy these cars used especially usually don't have a clue what they're getting themselves into, there are plenty of videos about them, oil leaks are ridiculous on them. My neighbors friend asked me if I work on BMWs so I said that depends on what it is wrong with it, he said his aunt has one he was she was selling and he was thinking about buying it, he went on to say that it had an oil leak but otherwise it was in good condition, I told him a out my other neighbor with an x3 I just worked on with just an oil leak, I advised him to not even consider it, I asked him if the check engine light was on and of course he said yes because they always are in these cars, he never mentioned it again, as Scotty says, those things are endless money pits.
It's all part of the business. Sometimes it turns out to be something simple. Diag. charge is for your knowledge and experience, not based on how simple or complex the actual repair may be.
Beautiful wife, beautiful property, doing a job you love, and one that you own?! You have done well in life, Ivan, very well indeed.
Thank you so much for the compliments; Without her, I would definitely not be where I am now!
Without mine, I might not even be HERE lol. I was headed down the wrong path, for sure ...
Hi Ivan, I thought the first words out of your wife would be " is my car fixed yet?" when she opened the door of that crusty MVP.
Thanks for showing your antique vehicle! my antique looks about the same!
I take it since vehicles are lucky to last 10 years in NY anything over five years is an antique?
Nice to see Mrs. Ivan !
Ha! Welcome to my world in the UK! Crap info. Finding any wiring diagram, never mind a good one is a task in itself. Really, really, really, really frustrating.

Next time try to remove the evap line from the bottom of the purge solenoid itself. There is a plastic tab that you can squeeze inward that'll let you pull the line off without breaking.
That...or break off the tip of the purge solenoid...it's all brittle plastic lol
Lol, tell me about it.
Very detailed video the best one I found. Thank you
at the dealer we have a test plan for the dmtl pump. it activates the pump and seals off the vent. it will then run for a few minutes and check for major, minor, and micro leaks. it's a good test to see if the leak is currently present. but I've found that it's sometimes inaccurate in that it will say the system is leak free even though I still find a leak with the smoke machine. there is also a special tool we use to connect to the vent side of the dmtl to smoke it from the pump forward. because as you know the purge valve is a pain to get to. the tool is just a clear hose with the special plastic connector at the end haha
What... No information on a Euro!! Welcome to my world Ivan 😀
Very true. How in the heck will you know it's the gas cap straight off the start. Hmm this man has plenty of knowledge and resources. Thank you. Love from South California.
I can't believe the Launch doesn't have bi-directional control on a BMW!
Thanks for the video!
The only thing it could do was pulse the purge solenoid. No vent control. Autel was the same.
Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics I have yet to try my Maxisys Mini on a BMW with this issue. I'm using the factory Software on BMWs.
Nick Nicu none of the aftermarket tools can . Including AutoLogic for most years .
New Level Auto Thanks Keith!
Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics I was able to actuate the dmtl solenoid/ pump with the Autel.
Great diagnostic mind Ivan. You always come up with the solution by thinking it out.
Ahhhh BMW! Now you're in my comfort zone :)
Nice ! Ivan my mother's friend came to me not to long ago with the same problem. Knowing she is 80 years young, I just tighten the cap, cleared the code and hoped my educated guess was right ! The hot solenoid is "HVAC Heater Control Valve" , so i guess the coolant makes it hotter

Wow that site even includes description and operation of the systems! Will definitely use it in the future. Thanks so much for the link!
You bet, man. Thanks for the great library of diagnostic videos!
the hot thing you noticed is secondary electric coolant pump, lets you keep warm with engine off, so would get hot normally...
That Beemer doesn't look like a whole lot of fun to work on. I've done a few Volvos and VWs, but never a BMW. Hate when they cover everything with plastic ... like they're trying to hide something.

I like the way he sold the diag: the owner now knows the system is NOT leaking.
Another mind bending rage inducing diagnostic on the old euro trash with a special guest appearance by Mrs Ivan. Good stuff!
Another excellent videi Ivan

Part of your Alldata subscription is library support. When you cant find something contact Alldata and ask them to get the info for you .

The Disgruntled Mechanic c'mon admit it , having the leggy blonde in it didn't hurt either 😁
HPC watches these videos also so I watch what I say!!! so no comment!
The Disgruntled Mechanic oh then it was all me ! He's innocent
you must really love the Mazda, putting so much work in it

Cool diag (and easy fix!). I hope you do a video on installing that Rogue transmission.
Great vid as usual.... I hope we get to see those transmissions being installed.
Oh boy the pressure is on! It's like a 10-hour job on the Rogue...that's a lot of video footage haha
Any transmissions videos in the future Ivan?
Coming right up :)

Wow, that Mazda MPV is in rough shape.. but great to have for a spare vehical with cheaper plates :-) not sure what you guys pay a year to plate a historic vehical, here in Toronto it's 18$ for the yearly historic plate sticker. regular plate stickers are 120$
Actually it is a one-time $150 fee and then the registration is permanent! I just pay $200/year for basic insurance.
love watching your thought process. just wondering if i missed it but did u ever check the purge valve? it looked like you bypassed it to smoke the system.
Ivan your MPV is looking a bit crusty in the quarter panels and rockers.Videos with the leak tamer are all good.
That and the rear wheel arches are gone, but otherwise it is mint haha
I like it drive till the wheels fall off
It does have a solid rear axle so might be a while before that happens ;)
the hot soleind you touched is the solenoid for the heater control valve. even with the car off and cool it heats like crazy.
Can only speculate what the BM dealer would have charged the customer for the diag and 'fix' $$$$ (classic tighten the gas cap!).
hmmmm what's holding together...hopes and dreams and rust lol
Ivan, I use alldata diy and I find that it is very hit or miss too. Sometimes they have a wealth of information and other times absolutely nothing. Do you recommend another service? Mitchell? Someone else?
I'm jealous of your new leak tamer! Lol.
The flow gauge really separates it from the paint can eBay smoke machine. And the LeakTamer smoke smells like strawberries so I like it haha
Hey Ivan nice video!!!! I wondered about them solenoids too a friend of mine has a 2003 BMW 525i with the same engine. I was checking the Cam and Crank sensors and got burned by those solenoids they were extremely hot.
Hey what is that tool called to ground out the pin?
Don’t you have vehicle inspections there? How can that MPV go through them? How does the antique vehicle plate thing work?
Valde333 with antique plates you don’t ever need an inspection
Your right ,how can you find the problem if you won't do diagnostic, diagnostic lead you to find the issue. Thanks i enjoy learned....
Wow pine very good Jo thakns for your time God bless you
BMW are a PITA to work on, PERIOD!
JD
love your videos.thanks
Garcansdad not the best for euro's!!!
Verus Pro is a fantastic tool for most purposes. Plus it has a built-in oscilloscope!
Thanks for your input. A college friend of mine is a regional Snap-On manager. I'll check in with him about purchasing one.
I'll keep that in mind. Thanks.
very good fix actually as it was a tricky gas cap and i doubt a standard DIY guy like me would have picked that leak up without a smoke machine lol however it might have self fixed at the next tank fillup maybeeeeeeee..ive seem quite a few gas cap leak youtube videos over the years and it still amazes me how a bad cap seal can throw a leak code, lucky i have not had one leak on us so far..
yeah not a regular gas cap at all...just one fancy "click" and it seals tight!
use your nose at the gas cap! put a jack with wood block under the tank and put light pressure on it, to pressurize the tank slightly sniff sniff sniff ;)
Correct procedure in diagnosis as there could have been a number of possible faults. A methodical system, in the long term, always ends up the winner. Don't be fooled with the quick fix attitude ---- a fatalistic approach. Mrs Ivan looks as pretty as ever !!
Great job! Beats taking it to the dealer and them putting in a purge valve and charging $500.
why does your site require 10 adds before the content is available?

Hey Terry, good to hear from you! Don't you own a Volkswagen too? That's the next best thing after a BMW ;)
PERIOD.
JR Valdez fyi full diagnosis is now free at the bmw dealer, any year, and model, just make an appointment.
The MPV should get good mileage. There's only half the car left!
my antique car is a 1995 Nissan Sentra Rust Bucket runs great!
Oh man... you need a proper lift... other than that, nice one. thx for sharing
Also. I need a connector/nipple-school. Sometimes it feels like I break more things than I fix when it comes to all the weired connectors...
If it's called a "quick connect"...watch out!
Have also seen connectors with separate plastic locking tabs&pins... Thoes are like the worlds most fragile mechanical puzzle, like a jenga that never falls apart...
A good job 👍, I might be having the same problem on my Mini Cooper s ☹️👎🏼
you rock
love your vids
Uhm, yeah, good job Ivan. Thanks!
Cheap? Easy? Two words never to be used in conjunction with BMW!
Again, most of their hoses are designed in such a way you can only buy the hoses from them.Smart.
Can u help me with p0604 how to fix it
Thanks for the video.
(ha ha)
there is a library request feature where someone will help u get the info u need quick. plus community
It's normal for that solenoid to always be hot as hell.
What is that? some kind of heater core shut off valve?
Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics that solenoid is used for the heater control system. only if the car has dual climate control (passenger and driver individual heat settings) I think the heater core has two separate inlets. if you look at the firewall you'll see that the heater core has 3 hoses coming from it. the valve can control coolant feed to each side of the heater core and it has a common drain. that valve is normally open when not energized for a failsafe of the valve. but it is normal for it to be hot when the ignition is on.
It's actually a switching valve for the heater core. First the air from the blower is cooled all the way by the evaporator and then it's heated back up by the heater core until you've got the commanded temp so the system needs a way to pulse coolant to the heater core to control it's temperature.
wow "soooo fancy!" haha
whats the difference between a BMW and porcupine ?
the pricks are on the outside of a porcupine...
I couldn't resist the classic joke :))
You just wasted 8 hrs of 12 German engineer's round table discussion of designing that hose... ;)
hahahaha and it feels damn good!
Good! Keep it up!
Antique and classic vehicles are not subject to emissions inspection."
not supposed to daily drive them either, naughty Ivan :)))
Looking forward to them transmission swap videos. :)
From 4:26 to 5:15 my TH-cam seems to be playing on loop ...
There must be something wrong with your browser xD
Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics maybe .... but I like it 😎
Working with my son on an engine swap of a 2006 x5 3.0l Them Germans really like plastic and O rings. Luckily you can get a lot of that plastic hose crap on ebay fairly cheap now. If you work on a BMW your gonna break some plastic
Ivan , good job better to be safe then sorry when it comes to evap codes , Nice to finally see the wife wow pretty lady , How did she end up with you lol Just joking :)
maybe "Ivan the terrible" is Russian mafia :))
That was my personal guess as well.
I thought standard procedure for evap leaks is to tighten the fuel cap, clear the code, and ship it. Also Crank Brothers ftw.
I've been running Crank Bros. Candy pedals on my MTB for almost 10 years now. Fantastic pedals!
Should have titled this "how to break multiple things to find out you forgot to tighten your gas cap"
