Yeah what's the point in hitting a 60 yard pass to Trips who's just going to control it and pass it inside. Spain get it out to Nico Williams and he tries to beat the fullback.

From what Southgate said after the match, it seems like the way they set up with Trent sitting back in a more defensive role to allow facilitate Jude’s free role and based on how Serbia set up and the physicality of them all.
They always go on about Trent’s defensive frailties at RB (over exaggerated) but he was more exposed how they had him playing. The brightest sparks they had was when he was able to get more forward instead of sitting in that holding role with rice.
It seems like they set up to build around Jude (as they should) but at the detriment of a lot of the other players. Why didn’t they practice playing this system before? They haven’t played with a double pivot in ages and now all of a sudden, it’s totally new. Trent played an entirely different type of midfield role yesterday than he’s done before… what’s the point of the friendlies if not to work out what works best for the team as a whole? They kept a clean sheet but created so so so so little so is basically being like “here are the keys Jude” the wrong approach? He is a good enough player where any system can work around him so imo they need to figure out the other parts that make everyone click and create.
For me, they looked best when Jude and Trent played as the 8s (like the first 20 mins) and rice as a single DM compared to what they switched to.
Agreed that the left side is a big issue. Shaw cannot come back soon enough. He’s key if they want to play with them set up like they did yesterday.
I think they’ll play the same team on Thursday and hopefully will have learned from this game that allowed them to work out some kinks

Yeah I agree with what you're saying, a lower midfield 2, but Trent is far more exposed in midfield and clearly his scanning needs some work, that's quite a lot to learn in such a short time. But of course, going forwards he is amazing.
I'm completely with you on all the frustration around the system and the players used. You're absolutely correct.
One of my big issues which ties in to what you said that I didn't mention in the video was the mentality shift from the group to be more defensive and not continue in possession, that really concerned me.
Hopefully they've learnt from the experience.

It’s weird foden struggles at LW cause 1. He’s smart enough to follow team instructions and 2. He’s played soooo many times on the left for city before. It’s not his best position obviously but he has played there enough that he should at least be able to do something?

I haven't looked into it properly with Foden, but I have a theory and I think its around Jude and the positions he is taking up. When Foden drives through the middle for City there is generally space due to the rotation from the City squad, I wonder whether both Foden and Jude are occupying the same amount of space and with Jude being the more expressive currently on the pitch it's hindering how Foden wants to play. Add that to Trippier not being a LB, Foden being really left footed and normally wanting to drift infield and he could be hindered.
I'm hoping that it was just a tactic to really attack the left side of Serbia rather than Foden just not wanting to operate on the left, but nevertheless its a concern. Hopefully he improves for the Denmark game.
