This video is aging well with Ubisoft in 1.4 billion debt and Sony in serious trouble over the complete failure of Concorde not to mention massive lay off across the board and game cancellations all in the AAA industry. I will now get my popcorn as I watch it all tumble.
Publishers don't want developers to take risks and actively push aside any developers who do. They want to ensure sales by using the same formula that sold the original. It's all about money
It's sad gamers pull their wallet for what is inevitably mediocre as a result of that though. I really really hate that. Because if we would encourage publishers to ensure high quality, good content and so on, they would have a much easier time selling their game. While they're at it, lower max cost for a game to $30. In short, make games worth the money again. People have good PCs, the problem is not with the consumer.
The bigger an industry gets, the more innovation and risk taking goes down the toilet and all you get is the same shit over and over again. There's ALWAYS some big greedy douchebags, with no emotional interest in the industry, who view people as simply "marketing opportunities", they swoop in once they see how much money they could be making and turn everything into the same old shit and sell it over and over in order to keep the profits up (microtransactions, sequels, football games). **cough*Strauss Zelnick*cough*Robert A. Kotick*cough**
same as the music industry, all the generic bands will get the marketing attention, same with hollywood, all the generic movies will get marketing attention. That is just the model that works to sell to the common denominator and gaming is the same thing. You can only stop it by voting with your wallet. Sadly for us, the majority want template games so you won't get your way anytime soon. Kickstarter is a way to get funding to creative gaming projects and there have been a few that were good and successful they're just few and far between
you want proof? you look at what's being released by publishers and there's your proof. Compare that with Kickstarter games and you'll see what publishers find valuable
Used to work in the games industry, left after two years as the whole industry is motivated by greed, not creativity. I'm finding more hardcore gamers who spend hours playing games in the I.T industry! lol
Andy Clifft Few are out there, CD Project Red is definitely a shining star. Whether or not u love/ or hate The Witcher 3, you still gotta give it to them for their free dlc and ACTUAL expansions post launch. Not these stupid micro dlcs we normally get today from games like CoD.
Andy Clifft Yes, and at least we do have a huge, enormous indie scene now where people can afford to take risks. Didn't have that 15 years ago, you had to convince publishers to take risks on you and the big ones were as risk-averse back then. There were just more of them because all the mergers of the noughties hadn't happened yet.
I used to work for a company that regurgitated the same shit (and still does) for 2 years. After a year of working on the same shit I started feeling depressed, I hated going to work because I knew I was working on the same shit. I was really glad when they fired me; since then I've made games for myself and I found it fun working on a game after 2 years of doing the same shit.
This is all industries. Everything's about money now. You only need to look at the thousands of people selling how to make money (without producing a damn thing). We've lost the investment of build something great/beneficial/enjoyable and the money will come. All people now think is, how can I make the most amount of money as quickly and easily as possible. People have become extremely money orientated, selfish and consume far too much. Hence the need for more and more money. I don't have issues with people making money. But at least add something of value in doing so. It's pretty sad.
He's bringing Rabbit back! (yeah) Them other toys don't know how to act (yeah) I think it's special, what's over your hand (yeah) So turn around and I'll pick up the bell (yeah)
Remember the old bots (CPU AI players) from Unreal Tournamen? And the bots from counter strike? All games should have bots (CPU AI players), so people can play offline and avoid hack infested games.
The AAA video game industry does innovate in one area: marketing and monetization. Every new game for the past decade seems to focus more on how to further exploit their loyal consumers and test the bounds of acceptable business practices than anything else. I have little interest in AAA thanks to corporate greed ruining the games. Eight years of publishers pushing harder and harder for more microtransactions, more DLC, more elaborate pre-order schemes, and deceptive marketing, making sure the investors are happy more so than the consumers and taking more and more control of the development process until the games are soulless home arcade machines continuously trying to sell you an add-on for a generic game to make it feel complete. I hope the industry crashes too. It needs it. As far as indie games, I don't know if that's in trouble because the terrible games are being called out by consumer advocates, but the market is definitely flooded, and good games don't get seen in the flood of poor-quality releases. Anyway, I'd love to see a gaming crash not only get rid of the greedy publishers that have infected the industry, but also bring about changes that prevent gaming companies from engaging in exploitative business practices. Consumer rights are sorely lacking in video games, and worker's rights too.
How to fix this: 1) Stop preordering annually recycled franchises (CoD, Fifa, Madden, etc) 2) Raise your fucking standards! A lot of fanboys get so blinded and it's very sad to see the standards of everyone drop so low 3) Erase Activisionn, EA and Ubisoft. bring back Valve 4) Give Indie Games a chance 5) MAKE EARLY ACCESS FUCKING DISAPPEAR! And last but not least 6) Microtransactions. Leave em to die.
Agreed, especially with "raise your standards." The remastered Crash Bandicoot trilogy comes to mind. It has nowhere near the finese or polish of the originals, yet fanboys won't let it have a word of critisism.
"bring back Valve"... Yes, Valve has not abandoned game development now that they are making tonns of money from steam and vr... Leave gaben and his company. They have made 1 game with 4 mods that went viral and nothing more. Then, a sequel to that game and to every single mod of it.
I have faith in the sheeps, it will not crash. The gaming industry should have crashed a long time ago. Preorder and dlc madness, yet idiots are still spending money. "Gamers" created this situation...
I'd argue gamers is why the crash is going to happen. I don't know if you've actually noticed, but quality of games has gone down the floor compared to old games. And no that's not just nostalgia talking at all. That Batman Arkham clip in this video is a great example of how dumbed down games have become. Even the better ones.
And yet. Ldsn22's point is a good one I think. Can we truly have faith that these 'gamers' who have created this situation are going to suddenly wake up and stop falling for the junk all of a sudden? I'm so cynical. I suspect things will continue to roll along downhill until WW3 happens....then well. You know, games won't be a concern anymore.
With the whole EA debacle, I was surprised that anyone bought Battlefront 2, let alone 8 million people. I think the figure was quoted to be 8 million. EA's goal was 14 million, but even though they fell 6M short of that target, there were still 8M people who bought the game. It boggled my mind. Then a video about a Battlefront 2 DLC popped up in my feed, and the comments were all filled with people frothing for more Star Wars content. It's insane.
@@morganwilliams2863 Guess what? End times prophecies all have it happening in our age. Those of us who were alive to see Israel be it's own nation will not (naturally) pass on before the lord returns. The clock is about to be cleaned.
@@morganwilliams2863 Also that generation has very little time left before passing on. Scientists have found LOTS of amazing bible discoveries recently including in our DNA patterns but none of it is allowed in main stream as it doesn't fit the mold. The bible "signs in the sky" have an exact meaning and have already happened in 2017 with the blood moons.
5 - 10 years if not before, there will be a crash, having played on console since the Super Nintendo, I can say for me, the golden age of gaming was definitely in the 90's, 90's to very early 2000's, as soon as the Xbox 360 and PS3 were on the scene, that is when things started to slip, as Mack stated a lot of youngsters coming in to gaming in the last decade, see gaming of today and think its great, with multi-player and so on, throw in season passes, dlc, micro-transactions, and all that pish, what are you left with, "You'll never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy," yes I just did that, but its feckin' true though, gaming has lost its soul, maybe a clean slate is what is needed
This theory keeps popping up at least once every year. I remember watching a similar video like 5 years ago. What I think is happened is the combination of moore's law and the fact that we get old! The more games that come out, the more saturation occurs and the older we get, the harder we are to please. Problem is, the younger gamers are the biggest market, us older gamers have kids, jobs and other commitments. Same is happening in the movie industry, now we just get PG-13 / 12A rated movies instead of the gritty 15's and 18's.
It's eerie how so many things go back to Steve Jobs little talk about what happened to Xerox. Marketing people get the sales numbers, so marketing people climb the ladder, take over and make the company decisions. Product people get pushed aside, and the products turn to shit or get continually rehashed as a result.
I'm utterly bored of games in general, I recently bought Darkest Dungeon and it's been the only game I've enjoyed in a very long time, I guess it's an age thing
Look to the Central European developers, producing "AA" games, rather than "AAA", as the future. As an FPS fan "Shadow Warrior 2" was my GOTY of 2016. Sure, Flying Wild Hog couldn't afford all the unique environments of a Western European AAA title but the gameplay knocked the overated, Modern Military Shooter that was DOOM 4 for a cocked hat. Two of my most memorable games of the last decade were "Cryostasis" and "NecroVisioN". Nothing like as polished as their AAA contemporaries but so original. Recent games like "Get Even" and "Inner Chains" may have been less than succesful but at least they tried something new. Let the big Western European corporates go under. There are those that can take their place.
I have to say, when it comes to some beloved titles I _wish_ they kept the sequels the same, but with a different story. Playing the Mass Effect trilogy is a depressing progression from epic greatness into mediocre rush job.
I've been subscribed to your channel for a couple of years now, but somehow, I've missed this video when it came up in 2017. Seeing this video today, early 2022 is a mixed feeling; I don't know if I want to laugh or cry at the current state of the Gaming Industry... Somehow, you predicted part of the reality we're seeing; however, you missed a couple of things believing that this crash would come soon in 2017. Well, here we are, better in some areas as you've shown us, like in the Indie games, so much worse than any of us would have thought in terms of AAA games. I hope we get that crash soon, even if it takes time to recover because we really need more good games. Still, it is incredible to see how right you are, have been, and probably will be for so many bloody years. Thanks for the content and all the saved Bank! Cheers!
Mack could an argument be made that the crash has already happened and its why we have so much regurgitated shit for the last couple of years? Because game development is so expensive so the big companies can't take the risk to "do anything new". The reason the indy guys get away with quirky games is because they don't have as much to loose.
100% agree with ya Mack. I'm a old school gamer my self I get so pissed some times with the state of gaming that I sit on my computer some times thinking of giving gaming up last time I was hyped for a game was like back in 2012 maybe 2010. I have my popcorn ready for the crash.
We definitely need a crash not just for the lack of innovation, but to stop anti consumer practices like exclusivities and hiding content behing a paywall
The problem is most triple A developers are not gamers. They have the resources, they have the budget but they simply don't understand the market. That's why I respect the best indi games because they have a real love for their craft, however most of the time indi games don't turn out very good because they don't have the budget. And then you just have the shit that's giving them a bad name. Oh god. Some of the games out there. I've seen unspeakable things.
I'm really hoping that the innovation in the indie gaming scene will be our saviour. Indie games are pretty much all I play anymore. Could you seriously imagine companies like EA or Ubisoft coming out with things like RimWorld, Factorio, Shenzhen I/O, Battle Brothers, Squad, etc...?
I remember that crash and the great games we used to have. Quake, UT, Half Life and all the mods that spawned like TFC and CS. I still hold every FPS released up against Half Life and sadly they all fall short. Games are just so shit now, either through poor mechanics or the great F2P rip off otherwise known as P2W. I hope for a crash to sort these greedy publishers out, because I do think it's publishers rather than devs that are the problem. On another note, where's rabbit? Haven't seen him since the great teabag scandal. Did he end up in stew?
The gaming industry and the movie industry are both going to crash soon. You can only make so many comic-book movies until the masses are fed up and stop going to the theater. Nobody wants to pay $20 for a movie and another $30 for popcorn, soda and candy. Same as the gaming industry. Call of Duty 47, Halo 20, generic racing game #4325671. Look at Disney, they are releasing a Star Wars movie every 6 months to a year. You have a new trilogy and 100 standalone films being shipped out like a factory shipping out candy. People are waking up and letting the corporations know how they feel with their wallets.
It's all ready crashed, It will never be the same again, 80's - 90's wear the glory days, I was one of a few people that played video games back then. I got called a geek.....now everyone plays them and now it's cool. Because of that they have dumbed games down.
AI is the most neglected element in gaming for many years. They improve on graphics which is the easiest thing to improve. We really need more innovation in AI though. Something like Deep Mind is doing for instance.
John Doe Good question. As long as AIs behave like competent yet fallible humans, I'm happy. I think it's cheap when they are super aggressive and rush you with no sense of self-preservation. It is equally cheap when they constantly have a bead on you meaning you can't decieve them by using cover. Some older games used this as a means of artificially raising difficulty.
I began gaming in 2006 and I played Rainbow Six 3 on my dad's Xbox, with all the new technological advancements, it's amazing that they still can't make a game to top it.
Preach Mack! Money is the reason the gaming industry is in such a state. It's a double edged sword because money is what's made the gaming industry so huge. Gaming has become a business and when anything becomes a business, I believe passion is lost and that's what game developers are lacking nowadays; passion. Destiny 2 looks like a large expansion, not a sequel in my opinion. They need to get the business men/women out and get the passionate developers in. Why they take so long to listen to their fans is also confusing, if people ask for something and you provide it, then everyone wins (A triple-A survival game; new innovative and original games etc.) the indie market needs to be moderated, but can be the saving grace if it is handled correctly. I can go on and on but you're right Mack definitely needs to change ASAP
@@alexa1591 Phone people don';t know any better. The majority of users have it for...............A PHONE! You know like your landline. You don't dial the phone company wanting it to do this or that you just pay and except things to work. Same with smartphones the mass majority don't understand user control and will look at you like you are speaking greek to them. I hate phone videos on here as they have awful quality yet most people don't mind or if they do they are just hitting the dislike button but not saying anything.
I'm a computer science graduate, making games for fun. Currently working on a huge game (in my scale) - been working on it for 2 years. Myself and my friends are nothing but passimistic. We will never give our day jobs because the fact of the matter is - people don't buy indie games. See Devolver Digital's latest Serious Sam. Good game (Steam reviews), almost 0 sales (see Steam Spy data). In this industry, making a good game is just not enough. And I make it sound like making a good game is a trivial thing. Luck is a huge factor in the business side of things of Indie Game Development - so huge that it may never be a job for the vast majority of us. Triple A is a different market though - as it is more mainstream. But even that is in a period of a slow down - the supply over saturated the demand. I think this is just the nature of things.
I hope this industry crashes like the fucking titanic, with all of the fucking ceo's and head marketers of these companies drown in the ocean of shitty games that they made. While the overworked devs that have no say in anything and were forced to make this are the only ones on the life boats.
Peter Lantz I disagree. Early Acess and the idea to remain in that state for literally ever + mobile "gaming" and with that microtransaction and as a result this huge (unhealty) blow up are the worst things that happend. But yeah DLC were where this all began.
Hey Mack great video as always, really enjoy these discussions. Your opinions are refreshingly blunt and honest. Please try do more videos like this discussing various gaming topics.
If EA collapses I hope they sell the Command and conquer IP to a decent developer... I will never forgive EA for what they did to CnC, and I have not bought an EA game since CnC 3 came out (I won it in a comp)
I wouldn't mind if you did some reviews of some older games that you personally liked when they were released and seeing if they stand the test of time.
The only AAA game I've bought WHEN RELEASED was Fallout 4. I generally REFUSE to buy games when they are released because of the extreme price AND they always have crap reviews. My only worry is if, for example, Steam goes broke, what happens to all my games?! What happens to my library?
Ronan King Steam isn't going broke anytime soon. They make enough money everyday in just microtransactions alone. Even if steam did crash, some big company (ie. Microsoft, Apple, Samsung) would buy steam from Valve.
True, but if big game companies go broke and stop producing games, then Steam's only income (other than microtransactions/marketplace) is from cheap early access/indie games. (Keep in mind that if this does happen, steam trading cards for what would be recent triple AAA games wouldn't exist because the games aren't being developed. It could become a serious issue...)
yeah I never buy games at launch....I always get them later for 1/2 price. Although I would probobly buy the FF7 reboot at launch if the reviews are good.
"What happens to my library?" If they shut down Steam, out library goes with it. We don't own our Steam games. We just have a license to play them as long as the service remains up.
With innovation publishers need to take risks. Can't see that being a happy equation with shareholders... Something got to give as nature abhors a vacuum
Jimmy Savile it's not been abandoned but they hardly update it. They said 3.0 was coming in Christmas 2016, look how that turned out. A lot of people think 3.0 will be out early next year, I hope it is so the Devs get a lot of shit and hopefully go bankrupt cig is a shit company
Jimmy Savile bit of both, some ships they are selling for high prices aren't even modelled yet it's ridiculous. They have so many offices around the world but seem to get fuck all done. They also want to get bugs out which is good they want to deliver a stable product, but it's in alpha. Those retards don't understand bugs are a part of alpha. They have taken out some features of 3.0 since 2016. The community is getting tired of their lying and type of this update which has been delayed for almost a full year now. I wish I could have my money back. Maybe get it at the end of 2018 it will be a lot better. But for 5 years in development so far there is absolutely nothing special in the game. It's empty. They are lazy I think.
Some Gamers are addicts and publishers know this, give them their fix and package it differently. Gamepads! Great devices, but with so few differences between them, they restrict a lot of creativity. I prefer steering wheels, mouse and keyboards, more complicated (not Einstein needed, just not stupidly simple) thus my choice was PC gaming and look for titles that fulfil my needs. Take a simple premise of shooting and tactics (while it has some issues) ARMA 3 is not just about irresponsibly shooting with auto aim, you have to consider the situation. Mobile gaming, I don't understand it myself, why play on a small screen something requires your willing obedience to micro transactions, when I have a PC waiting at home (or console for those that have that), if your out in public with your head in your phone, go around with a sign saying your an ignorant ****, we with our head looking where we're going think it anyway. The gaming industry is still strong, yes is spread its reaches, but every now and then gems come along, I have been gaming since 80's and remember a lot of shite through the years too, just by definition as things expand there is more shite just because of numbers. Keep up your great vids Mack.
So right it does need a crash , I also feel early access is hurting the industry too. But it was good to see Rabbit there at the end though Mack , hope he is doing ok been a while since we have seen him.
thats where you are wrong, its sure inspired from tf2 as blizzard themselves acknowledged but the maps are strategic and tactical and the deathmatchers as I call them, the people who play pew pew games like cod, cannot survive in overwatch because it requires coordination and proper team build with every role performing their job properly.
I agree with you regarding the quality of games today compared to the 90's/early 2000's, and honestly, after unloading 100 hours into Battlegrounds, that game feels and plays like online games back in the day. Haven't had this much fun online since the old Battlefield, Counter Strike days. They fixed the horrible lag issue this morning, you should definitely check it out again (first person, of course). If it doesn't satiate your gaming needs, I'm not sure what else will.
@NewbieTuwbie: the lag still remains... server tickrate is at or _below_ 10 (!!!!) which is abysmal, but for me there is one more major problem in pubg. It is a shooting game with terribly clunky gunplay. Seriously how the hell did they manage to make it so bad it is worse than a 20 year old game... Half life 1 had better gunplay than pubg :(
kombatres He said he wouldn't do a proper review until it gets FP servers I myself quite enjoy the game on an Arcady level when I play with my mates but the game in itself is proper shit, Half Life 1 is a good game but it's nowhere as close to as good as many make it out to be cause it's purely nostalgic.
@NewbieTuwbie: I am not comparing games here, I am comparing how the gunplay "feels" and I just picked the first game that came to mind that wasn't released in the last 15 years... I could have said battlefield 1942, or cod 1, or any shooter really
I think discounted sales on online stores are having an effect on AAA sales. I have so many quality games from yesteryear in my Steam list that I've picked up for a couple of quid. Why buy a modern game for £40-£50?
ZzOoMmBbEe He named Dishonored 2 and should've named Prey as well both phenominally made games that failed. It is just nuts how sick this industry has become! On evey front cosumers, devs and publishers are cancer and the press does stand by and applaud it like all was fine. All off it will lead to a massive decline, the only questions are how will it happen and who will be affected. One thing is certain, WE damn well need this clean up badly. It has been going on for far too long this way!
I love you, Mack but things never stay the same. The tech industry (including videogames) is developing at such a swift pace that there's no room for nostalgia anymore! A whole generation was raised on Mario and Sonic. Now we have a new console every few years. Now now now! More more more! Pew pew pew! True creativity takes time, I agree. But 'they' are never going to make games like they used to. Same as Old Meg will never be like she used to... Move on, man. And as for Madden and FIFA, what do you want to do, set them in space!? The only thing they can improve is the graphics! The number's change because the YEARS change and the leagues change, players retire/get signed. I get your point but come on...
Mack, I work in the GI for many years and the things that you said are the truth. I remember one hot summer we were in a new office and the windows weren`t covered and all of the sunlight was on your pc monitor and you just can`t work. Also, the conditioners were shitty :D I guess this is the case in almost all of the studios in the world
The only game I'm looking forward to right now is Far Cry 5. I loved FC 1,2,3,4 and Primal. Still need to finish Primal though, Prey and Diablo 3 is kinda holding me back atm ^.^
Mac did you ever play Wolfenstein Enemy Territory? That was a superb example of a free to play multiplayer game. Had class level design with objectives but no leveling up, grinding or in game purchases. One of the hidden gems in gaming.
Well well, I know it's bad nowadays to bring up political terms but it seems your criticism of the industry goes down to the deep rot of capitalism. You said it, shareholders need to be satisfied, not gamers. The gaming industry is like any other, and in the absurdity of our days it follows the same absurd rules that give us things like shit toys from China, frakking, oil powered transports, plastic packaging, skycrapers (seriously think about it), subprimes etc, etc... Same for the US film industry it's only rehashed shite that will sell for sure. What's the last Hollywood film you can think of that's not a sequel and that has an original story not inspired by another fiction? None, because it's too risky and not bankable
Sakaeagaga capitism will fix it aslong as people stop buying it, the issue is the people that continue to buy it because if you stop and the companies fail and then they have to change to what we want or they die.
Sakaeagaga Capitalism as an economic system hasn't really existed since 1922, fam. It is only able to exist in a society wherein there is no monopoly of power, a government, to exploit its unnatural monopolistic position and expand its reach of actors into the otherwise free market so as to secure and then further expand its power. That is to say, Government itself is aggressive in that it is perpetuated by taking money at gun point under the threat of imprisonment in a rape hole, and no matter how small a government starts out, it will always exploit its monopolistic power, and as such I propose that the only solution is propertarian anarchy.
For sometime I have been pondering the same thought, so decided to type 'new video game crash coming' and discovered this video. Your comments about the quality of games today are absolutely spot on - when i think back to the quality of multi player shooters like Unreal Tournament GOTY on the PC it is still light years ahead of todays shooters. The map design were fantastic. Todays games are dull, boated and lazy.
I can sense a bit of what you're talking about, though it is true that there is almost always a dry period during the summer months. This year was dry for PC, but I would say triple A releases were at an all-time high at the start of the year. 2017 started strong. Summer is slow. We'll know for sure once the tail of 2017 happens to see if it balances out to just being a front loaded year or not.
MACK its people like you that are helping the gaming community see what shit they are putting in our troughs !! keep it up and lets hope this crash happens soon
Easy mode will be few tasks only and long time to do it. Medium mode will introduce you to obstacles in the house such as tripping hazards or complex house designs that you have to navigate. Hard mode has all of it in the dark with short timers and your in the bad neighborhood of town. :)
Mack, have you ever played Gothic or Gothic 2? They came out in the late 90s/early 2000s and still feel just as advanced (if not more so) mechanically than many RPGs today.
Mack, I study Computer Game Development at University... my lecturers never shut up about this... you're absolutely right. Too much shite being thrown onto the market really...
I agree with you, it's sad.... because I just graduated and I'm trying to get in the industry, but honestly there aren't even companies I have faith in anymore! Well, the ones I do require experience, no entry level stuff. Guess I should just build experience, let it crash then come in.
Also Vermintide is a great example of arwcent gem. Honest and fair devs who have made a vwry challenging and rewarding game experience which involves so much more than just hack and slash at the higher skill levels. There is genuine tactics and completing a mission on Nightmare gives you a thoroughly excellent feeling of accomplishment. Need to invest some serious hours into it to get to that point though.
Spot on video, I think your right in all you say in it, the industry is now suffering from it's own success and playing it safe to keep the money rolling in. Hopefully a downturn helps them take more risks and innovate once again.
That's a hilarious thought!Obviously a reference about Nintendo saving consoles.Keep in mind PC gaming was evolving and doing fine during that period, tough nowadays if the consoles are affected,PC is certainly going to be affected.
Agree with pretty much everything there Mack - I think a big part of it is they are too risk averse. To an extent it's understandable as between shareholders and internal costs they are always gonna go with safe option knowing people will buy it and they aren't risking as much - but that model, as you say, is beginning to suffer from diminishing returns.
well, thank god for indie industry. At least there there is some innovation. What is bad will not survive, but I wouldn't go that far as to say a crush is imminent.

CORNERSTONECITY777 but better graphics means harder work
They should.
But they don't have the patience or discipline to do it, so pathetic.
I have the patience. I haven't pre-ordered anything since 2011 when I got fucked by stronghold 3.
CORNERSTONECITY777 games don't need to stop it. We need to stop it.
Also,STOP BUYING DLC!

Yep

"Publishers don't want developers to take risks and actively push aside any developers who do."
What proof can you offer for that blame?
you want proof? you look at what's being released by publishers and there's your proof.
Exil I subbed to you. Can't wait to see your work.
MAck you need to bring back rabbit in your videos
he just did...
He's bringing Rabbit back! (yeah)
Them other toys don't know how to act (yeah)
I think it's special, what's over your hand (yeah)
So turn around and I'll pick up the bell (yeah)
I miss rabbit so much! I laughed to tears when he played the batman game! :D
Hubert Shitmeyer yes but he cooked rabbit stew with dumplings XD
"I picked up the shit in my hands and squeezed between my fingers and it was great" i died
There is a good documentary where someone digs up the atari landfill, they actually found it.

William Stanway Name of the documentary is Atari: Game Over

The last nail in the coffin is the multiplayer games overcrowded with cheaters and hackers.
Mystery Man right. Spend all this money on a game that has Cheaters and they just released the next game.
Mad because slow internet?
Remember the old bots (CPU AI players) from Unreal Tournamen? And the bots from counter strike? All games should have bots (CPU AI players), so people can play offline and avoid hack infested games.
When you play a hacker, you're playing a bot, too.
BUT, a hacker have 100% accuracy with aimbot hack, and they see you though walls with wallhack.
How to fix this:
1) Stop preordering annually recycled franchises (CoD, Fifa, Madden, etc)
2) Raise your fucking standards! A lot of fanboys get so blinded and it's very sad to see the standards of everyone drop so low
3) Erase Activisionn, EA and Ubisoft. bring back Valve
4) Give Indie Games a chance
5) MAKE EARLY ACCESS FUCKING DISAPPEAR!
And last but not least
6) Microtransactions. Leave em to die.
Agreed, especially with "raise your standards." The remastered Crash Bandicoot trilogy comes to mind. It has nowhere near the finese or polish of the originals, yet fanboys won't let it have a word of critisism.
but if we get rid of early access how could i play pubg :( ) ( ) ( ((
Ah, good point. You would have to wait until the game was done first. ;)
"bring back Valve"... Yes, Valve has not abandoned game development now that they are making tonns of money from steam and vr... Leave gaben and his company. They have made 1 game with 4 mods that went viral and nothing more. Then, a sequel to that game and to every single mod of it.
I hope we get more game companies like CD project red.
I was in a Game shop today and the whole Left wall was full of "Preorder"
Why pay for something that you don't get?
Need to stop walking simulator, DLC, Pre-order, early access and yearly sequels crap.
theres nothing wrong with a GOOD simulator.. the problem is all the bad ones.
+Shade Draws But DOOM 2016 and Wolfenstein though
Morgan Williams
Triple A developers mate, I know plenty of great developers.
Imagine if one day you woke up to learn that EA/Ubisoft/Activision went bankrupt. It'd probably have consequences but just imagine the chaos.
was hoping you would talk about this, the topics been on my mind for a while
Hello stud
HONESTLY I only buy games that I can replay over and over again... like GTA 5 for example
It's eerie how so many things go back to Steve Jobs little talk about what happened to Xerox.
Marketing people get the sales numbers, so marketing people climb the ladder, take over and make the company decisions. Product people get pushed aside, and the products turn to shit or get continually rehashed as a result.
This is why I got a PC and just started playing indie games, better value and the money goes to more deserving people.
I'm utterly bored of games in general, I recently bought Darkest Dungeon and it's been the only game I've enjoyed in a very long time, I guess it's an age thing
Probably, we've seen just about everything by now and i don't have the patience to sit and play through the latest "amazing" open world sandbox thing.
Rum Pirate Aye, the open world game trend needs to die
Yep, I like to dub it 'jaded old prick syndrome' and it happens to the best of us.
KieffJM
Are you talking about games like Minecraft and No Man's Sky?
Plutosnake Pretty much but also some of the bigger titles as well, they all feel like the same game to me
Look to the Central European developers, producing "AA" games, rather than "AAA", as the future.
Mack has an excellent review on this very channel :-)
not sure if it was intentional because it was so well executed '' no mans lie i mean sky '' amazing
Half life 2 was one of my favourite games; gave you multiple choices on how to play... rest in piece good games.
Did he end up in stew?
the world . . . is changing
WOW! Mac's background music really sets the tone. Can you imagine if he added hard metal in the background? It would sound like a rage video!
Some older games used this as a means of artificially raising difficulty.
vJohn Doe
I want fish to move out of the way when I jump into the water. That is deep mind. I will achieve sexual nirvana.
I began gaming in 2006 and I played Rainbow Six 3 on my dad's Xbox, with all the new technological advancements, it's amazing that they still can't make a game to top it.
The answer is yes, and companies like Activision and Ubisoft are leading the march. Shitting out garbage releases month after month.
Introvert they all milk the shit of it, but ubisoft are crap
can't forget EA, EA is garbage selling quarter of a game then releasing DLCs
You should trademark that hilarious bell you ring so hysterically, it's wonderful 😂
Let the industry burn. PC will allways survive, gaming industry will be able to evolve and won't be held back by ancient hardware.
I can go on and on but you're right Mack definitely needs to change ASAP
the mobile game industry will crash first
The Ninjaneer I really hope so, awful market
@@alexa1591 Phone people don';t know any better. The majority of users have it for...............A PHONE! You know like your landline. You don't dial the phone company wanting it to do this or that you just pay and except things to work. Same with smartphones the mass majority don't understand user control and will look at you like you are speaking greek to them. I hate phone videos on here as they have awful quality yet most people don't mind or if they do they are just hitting the dislike button but not saying anything.
@@alexa1591 If a video has a lot of dislikes there's a good reason for it.
Can you review Anno 1404, please?
He should review Dawn of Discovery too.
Kekistan Rising thats the same game
That came out in 2009 wtf?
Mystery Man Yeeess!! My favourite game of all time.
is that good?
what music doest thou pull my heart strings that go with the video
I really hope there is a crash mac just a big fuckin wipe out
The dinosaurs went extinct, leaving the Earth for little mammals.
I hope this industry crashes like the fucking titanic, with all of the fucking ceo's and head marketers of these companies drown in the ocean of shitty games that they made. While the overworked devs that have no say in anything and were forced to make this are the only ones on the life boats.
The worst thing that ever happened to the gaming industry is the DLCs. I've also heard that the work conditions at the big gaming places are terrible.
Peter Lantz I disagree. Early Acess and the idea to remain in that state for literally ever + mobile "gaming" and with that microtransaction and as a result this huge (unhealty) blow up are the worst things that happend. But yeah DLC were where this all began.
Why have you deleted your witcher 3 review?
I'm a game design student, and I totally agree with what you say Mack. I hope I can help bring a better future for gamers.
It's happening
Hey Mack great video as always, really enjoy these discussions. Your opinions are refreshingly blunt and honest. Please try do more videos like this discussing various gaming topics.
If EA collapses I hope they sell the Command and conquer IP to a decent developer... I will never forgive EA for what they did to CnC, and I have not bought an EA game since CnC 3 came out (I won it in a comp)
Having a Mack in every corner of life is always healthy.
Not gonna lie, I actually liked the last watch dogs.
sagitarriulus didn't get the new one but I played the first through and enjoyed it, but I was a in minority haha.
sagitarriulus beat WD1 & WD2 and yes it was a step up in many ways ....I got it on sale for $29 a few months after launch
Although I would probobly buy the FF7 reboot at launch if the reviews are good.
it's just too expensive to buy new AAA games considering the content!!
"What happens to my library?"
If they shut down Steam, out library goes with it. We don't own our Steam games. We just have a license to play them as long as the service remains up.
With innovation publishers need to take risks. Can't see that being a happy equation with shareholders... Something got to give as nature abhors a vacuum
Star citizen opinions and video?
I haven't played it and would love for mack to do a review of its alpha
Jimmy Savile it's not been abandoned but they hardly update it. They said 3.0 was coming in Christmas 2016, look how that turned out. A lot of people think 3.0 will be out early next year, I hope it is so the Devs get a lot of shit and hopefully go bankrupt cig is a shit company
Jimmy Savile nah it's going from alpha to beta this year and will have a proper full game release in 2018 or 2019
gage hilbert maybe 2020
I've trained my 3 year old so that when she need to go #2, she say's "pew pew"! Thanks Mack!
Great vid mack, a subject I've had a lot of interest in after looking into the previous crash of the early 80's
Ubisoft continues to be the biggest offender. AssCreed and Far Cry are literally skin/texture swaps.
So right it does need a crash , I also feel early access is hurting the industry too. But it was good to see Rabbit there at the end though Mack , hope he is doing ok been a while since we have seen him.
He was in his chair building video, along with his hot fucking girlfriend.
Rabbit !! :D ♥
That bit at the end was really funny. Good video Mack
Review Saints Row 2?
Pyre - An incredibly innovative new entrance game that came out within last 2 months. There you go.
Hope a crash happens... haven't been hyped for a game since overwatch.
Andrush i hate overwatch
Andrush Yeah... gaming is going down into the fucking toilet. But i hope that blizzard survives this damn shit down the toilet.
Yup. Haven't really played a game that totally amazed me in the last few years except for Overwatch and Skyrim.
Well in your case you just have a terrible taste in games.Overwatch is also a TF2-inspired-pew pew simulator, full of edgy 12yo.
thats where you are wrong, its sure inspired from tf2 as blizzard themselves acknowledged but the maps are strategic and tactical and the deathmatchers as I call them, the people who play pew pew games like cod, cannot survive in overwatch because it requires coordination and proper team build with every role performing their job properly.
If it doesn't satiate your gaming needs, I'm not sure what else will.
i know you dont like pubg. but if the lag was not there would you like it. i can agree its terrible the lag
HockeyMasterBro He was mainly complaining about the third person view;He wants a first person view.
meme expert and now he has it
@NewbieTuwbie: the lag still remains... server tickrate is at or _below_ 10 (!!!!) which is abysmal, but for me there is one more major problem in pubg. It is a shooting game with terribly clunky gunplay. Seriously how the hell did they manage to make it so bad it is worse than a 20 year old game... Half life 1 had better gunplay than pubg :(
kombatres He said he wouldn't do a proper review until it gets FP servers
I myself quite enjoy the game on an Arcady level when I play with my mates but the game in itself is proper shit, Half Life 1 is a good game but it's nowhere as close to as good as many make it out to be cause it's purely nostalgic.
Just look at hitman It failed a amazing game failed While call of duty will always make big money
Mack would disagree.
ZzOoMmBbEe because casuals and young kids
> Always online DRM
> Episodic
> Denuvo
Gee, I wonder why Hitman failed.
It's been years since something felt new and worthwhile
Sakaeagaga interstellar but that's about it.
Baby Driver and it did well.
It's not the fault of capitalism,it's the fault of the consumers not doing what's best.Capitalism is the only way for consumers to have a voice.
Seems like the quality and creativity just hasn't been the same in the last couple of years
I can sense a bit of what you're talking about, though it is true that there is almost always a dry period during the summer months. This year was dry for PC, but I would say triple A releases were at an all-time high at the start of the year. 2017 started strong. Summer is slow. We'll know for sure once the tail of 2017 happens to see if it balances out to just being a front loaded year or not.
I just want another Bloodlines game.
A big crash, then every triple A game will be UbiSoft for seven years of darkness. Bring it!
That's a hilarious thought!Obviously a reference about Nintendo saving consoles.Keep in mind PC gaming was evolving and doing fine during that period, tough nowadays if the consoles are affected,PC is certainly going to be affected.
I totally agree with you Mack.
There is only one game that I can actually think of right now that I'm looking forward to playing when it releases and that's a game named DUSK.
I fucking love the end of your video XD. You're the best. Keep up the good work.
I don't know why, but I'm always happy to see the "WAB Wabbit!"
