The fact that Ben reviewed this makes me wary to dive in... not bc Ben isn't an excellent reviewer, or that I dont trust EA's opinions.... but Ben is such a fan of the franchise, I'm afraid he might not hold a game from this series feet to flames the same way he would another game of another series, that he's not in love with.

Having consumed EZA content for literally the company's whole existence, I think Ben's also in a position where he'd perhaps be more openly critical or less forgiving of the game if it had more significant flaws. It's probably noteworthy that 9/10 aligns with a lot of other outlets too. I'm looking forward to hearing Ben's thoughts on Frame Trap because you can pick up on nuances like franchise bias more easily than you could in a carefully-scripted review due to the show's length and format.

To me the return of four player hubs is a much needed change! This way you are guaranteed to be in a lobby with people who actually wanna interact and hunt together. World felt so empty although there were more people in a lobby.
I don't agree with wirefall being too good. It's there to make you get back to attacking ASAP, it's not a crutch that *prevents you* from being hit. In fact, it's very possible to wirefall *into* another attack, and then you're left open without wirebugs to help you. It's a very welcome QoL change and it's balanced on its own, imo. Other than that, fantastic review! This was great to watch. You got a sub!
4 player hubs are an improvement and adds a sense of community. Actually seeing the ppl you hunt with and same consistent group. Also, split hub quests mean extra content. I just love it so much I can’t wait for the ultimate version with all DLC updates. Non-ultimate versions just feel light on content, which is ironic given it will still provide hundreds of hours.
I know Ben isnt super familiar with pre world so the feeling of the entries getting easier is something he isnt used to but thats just something that happens. Theres not one veteran who thought base world was hard just like back in the day no veterans thought generations or tri were hard.
@Denizen OfTheDepths Gen 2 was a trip, I agree. Back then, they made sure they slapped you hard near the beginning of the game. When 2 star village quests could dump on you. Still, I’ve never felt the challenge was lacking by the time they got to their G/Master rank stuff in any MH game. Just like the rest, I’m confident this will do the same. Fortunately, some of the new monsters look like so much fun and a major content update will be out by the time the rest of us have played it as much as the reviewers.

It looks like gathering quests are making a come back in Rise but it also looks like they made it less tedious. THANK GOD! As someone who's been playing since Freedom Unite, I've always hated the gathering quests in older MH games because they felt like useless filler and they've always been tedious and boring af. Don't even get me started with gathering quests in fucking high rank lmao.. Anyways, whenever I do gathering quests, most of the time, I don't even know where the hell the items are so I have look up Google for that shit. I'm not saying the gathering quests are going to be fun now but with Palamutes and the game telling me where the items are, it should make these quests less tedious.

From what I heard from some of the more Monster Hunter focused TH-camrs, the conclusion of the story will be added when the First update in the roadmap rolls around, with the speculation being that it was a compromise that had to be made due to the pandemic messing with things.
The rumors of a Pro have been out since the system launched. I'm not holding my breath for one and don't expect one honestly. Especially due to how well it's selling.

Wirefall in my opinion is a god send. Especially for those moments when a monster hits you down and before you can get back up they like sit back down boy!!
i think the wirefall mechanic can sometimes put you in dangerous situation, letting enemies hit you when you're actually much more safer being invulnerable while being downed
Thanks for the great review! I feel differently about using the wirebug to avoid being staggered though. Personally, I don’t think stun locks have ever made a game more fun and it was a tremendous breath of fresh air to avoid them. I can’t wait to get deeper into this game!
We're getting so close to release and I'm still cracking my mind on whether I should get the Switch. The game looks absolutely gorgeous but idk if it's worth the (roughly) £40 with the combined £100+ of a new Switch if there's not going to be other big games I could play

I've watched a few reviews now and it seems like the monsters aren't doing much damage. I think they do more damage in the demo. Maybe they made it easier for reviewers and they'll increase the difficulty on a day 1 patch?

Monster hunter can be a tough but fair game, even for experienced players. It is unique, but generally speaking if you're a fan of skill based, methodical combat games like Dark Souls you will also enjoy monster hunter.
There's a solid two paragraphs on difficulty if you want a more thorough explanation. Ben recommends it for all Switch players regardless of series experience. -Bloodworth

Monster hunter is not nearly as hard as dark Souls, I just mean that it has a similar sort of philosophy where your skill level and dedication determines how well you do.

Hubs being locked at 4 is the best change they could have made from World. Miss me with that shitty online experience. World was the complete opposite from what good online is. Instead of talking with people and actually getting to know them, you never saw them, never hunted with them because they all went on ongoing mssions from a random player, and getting in any hub would be a waste of your time.
Dude for real. MHW was good for just randomly getting someone to play a quest with but there was like ZERO community. Thank god for bringing back 4 in the hubs.

I played Monter Hunter World offline and by myself. Had a good time, with the exception of a few Monsters that were too much of a HP sponge for a single player. Hearing you say that Rise does differentiate between offline and online gaming, I'm a bit worried that I will have a diminished experience (in comparison to World). Are those worries legitimate? It is coming to PC in 2022. Doubt that it is coming to the other consoles since this game was made by the portable monster hunter team. The MHW team are already working on the next gen Monster hunter game for ps5, xbox, and PC.

There is a story, but it's usually fairly barebones and just serves to push you through more and more monster fights. Hunting monsters is the main gameplay.
I have searched and seen that this game does not have voice chat. Easy Allies is usually so thorough that it is disappointing that during the multiplayer portion of the review, this was not brought up. It actually has me questioning if the info that i found elsewhere is accurate or not since why would a standard multiplayer feature that is missing not be mentioned.
6:43 HARD disagree. Bigger number does not equal better in this case. Maybe for content creators it was cool, but for casual play it just bloated hubs and killed the focus of a hub. I found it way more common in World for someone to join a hub and just do their own thing, wasting a hub slot completely.
This gets me thinking, what are Capcom's Top 3 franchises presently, if you had to rank them? Seems very different than like, 8 years ago when street fighter was on top. Might have to say Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and maybe Devil May Cry despite how infrequent it is.
Did he mention how online is? I had a few hiccups in the second demo where the monsters would teleport around the map despite using usb to ethernet cable
I hope this is a piss-take. Monster hunter is a game about it’s ecology. Being part of that ecosystem is what the games have always been about. The plot always goes “x monster is going out of control or destroying the ecosystem as we know it” the hunters, are also animals in this world and they thrive in it. Just as monsters hunt monsters, so too do hunters hunt monsters. Shouldn’t have to explain any of that though, don’t push some shallow animal rights perspective on a game that never once says “hey go and mass slaughter everything in your path”. It’s a video game.
I can't imagine wirefall being too overpowered. The moment you wirefall you have 0 i-frames, so if you are trying to move back into the fight you can get CLAPPED quickly.
Wirefall does have s, it's short but it exists. And the fact you can angle where you're going with the wirefall makes fights a lot easier. I was able to solo Magnamalo after my third try...
@@jonlocke7112 cool flex. The i-frames are during falling through, once your wirebug is out you can get hit again. So you can't wirefall through monsters or attacks. It creates this dicodomy of risk vs reward, of getting another hit in or leaving and healing up. As others said, it is often safest not to wirefall. Also using a wirebug with the longest reload time means your combat options become less. I don't think it's overpowered, I think it creates an excellent ballence of risk and reward. Its nerfed absolute evasion from GEN. If running away and healing is overpowered sure.

I think wirefall is fine as a defensive crutch. Since your offensive and defensive wirebug moves use the same resource, you're giving up on potential offensive maneuvers to save yourself from being comboed to death.
This was so much better than the other reviews I watched. Easy Allies are really great at providing informative, well-edited reviews.

I like the 4 man lobby better, in GU it feels easier to communicate with people compared to world.

The village quests for this game are much easier than previous games. The hub quests are more less similar to previous games quests.

It's similar to MHW but decorations are craftable and charms/talismans are now RNG

It would run the same as a regular switch. But optimized for handheld play

Easy Allies is usually so thorough that it is disappointing that during the multiplayer portion of the review, this was not brought up. It actually has me questioning if the info that i found elsewhere is accurate or not since why would a standard multiplayer feature that is missing not be mentioned.

6:43 HARD disagree. Bigger number does not equal better in this case. Maybe for content creators it was cool, but for casual play it just bloated hubs and killed the focus of a hub. I found it way more common in World for someone to join a hub and just do their own thing, wasting a hub slot completely.
I miss when story and main hub quests were actually a challenge. Especially early urgent quests...
This gets me thinking, what are Capcom's Top 3 franchises presently, if you had to rank them? Seems very different than like, 8 years ago when street fighter was on top. Might have to say Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and maybe Devil May Cry despite how infrequent it is.
Going by sales numbers, MH World was Capcoms most succesful game of all time.
Did he mention how online is? I had a few hiccups in the second demo where the monsters would teleport around the map despite using usb to ethernet cable

I can’t get past that this is actually “animal killer”. It’s one thing to kill evil creatures, another to gleefully torture animals just living life.
I hope this is a piss-take. Monster hunter is a game about it’s ecology. Being part of that ecosystem is what the games have always been about. The plot always goes “x monster is going out of control or destroying the ecosystem as we know it” the hunters, are also animals in this world and they thrive in it. Just as monsters hunt monsters, so too do hunters hunt monsters. Shouldn’t have to explain any of that though, don’t push some shallow animal rights perspective on a game that never once says “hey go and mass slaughter everything in your path”. It’s a video game.

DigitalFoundry have a video up. Mostly stable 30fps with occasional, but rare minor hiccups in frame pacing.
@@Ayoul just watch it. Since I read/watch couple of review and they didn't complain any framerate issues, so I guess it run OK.

This new music sounds so good!
This game is challenging playing solo hub quests. Even online hub quest is tough as the whole team is allow 2 faints to complete quest.

I can't imagine wirefall being too overpowered. The moment you wirefall you have 0 i-frames, so if you are trying to move back into the fight you can get CLAPPED quickly.

Yeah not using wirefall is very often the safer easier option.
Using wirefall is much faster though.
Wirefall does have s, it's short but it exists. And the fact you can angle where you're going with the wirefall makes fights a lot easier. I was able to solo Magnamalo after my third try...

@@jonlocke7112 cool flex. The i-frames are during falling through, once your wirebug is out you can get hit again. So you can't wirefall through monsters or attacks.
It creates this dicodomy of risk vs reward, of getting another hit in or leaving and healing up. As others said, it is often safest not to wirefall. Also using a wirebug with the longest reload time means your combat options become less.
I don't think it's overpowered, I think it creates an excellent ballence of risk and reward. Its nerfed absolute evasion from GEN. If running away and healing is overpowered sure.
I'm betting this game will sell 1.5 million in its first week.

I think wirefall is fine as a defensive crutch. Since your offensive and defensive wirebug moves use the same resource, you're giving up on potential offensive maneuvers to save yourself from being comboed to death.
