This was a great tutorial. Not only did this tutorial show us how to replace the battery but also made of aware of the things that might go wrong. 10/10
I had looked at two other videos before finding yours and could not split the body of the remote. The detailed instructions and the good lighting of your video made it really easy and quick. Excellent production. Thank you
This was great! I watched another video where the guy looked like he was ripping apart the fob and battery side. You however was able to demonstrate the correct procedure and explained where to push and pry open safely. Thanks for this video.
Spot on! Saved me a trip (time and money) to the dealer. Was able to do this myself, at home in no time flat. Thank you for great, simple, concise instructions.
Excellent video! Was able to fix it perfectly while avoiding the pitfalls that might break it. I love how you spent time showing how the inside looks and locks so that it's easy to understand and appreciate the opening and closing technique. Other videos show a lot of force, but yours showed how to finesse it it perfectly. Thank you!
The owners manual doesn`t lose any word about how critical it is to damage the tap, while pressing it too hard. Without this Clip, I wasn`t able to open the key. A very useful manual. Many thanks to the Car Key Man for his real good work. Please take care of your Hands and Fingers....
The best step by step video I have seen. The part where you show how to put back the battery cover part and the prevention of further complications is the most impressive. Brilliant work!
Thanks for the extra details about the unlock/lock "bits" falling out of the side of the lock casing. I would stress to not let the circuit board fall out of that side of the case in order to keep the "bits" in place. SO ALWAYS keep that side down when you are dismantling it to allow gravity to work for you. In this demo, the lock/unlock "bits" stayed together with the whitish/clear plastic spacer. In my case, that section completely fell apart, requiring much patience and a tweezer to reassemble it IN THE PROPER ORDER. Spacer bar needs to go in first, among other things. Took me a long time to figure all this out and get everything to sit correctly. Still you provided more details than some other videos.
This video is still saving lives all these years later. Bought a car second hand and the fobs didn't work. Turns out the battery in both sets of keys were installed upside down. Thanks. 👍
This clip solved my problem on how to get to the batteries on my Mazda 3 key fob. It is clear, straightforward, and easy to know exactly what to do. Obviously, the best one I saw: I changed two fobs in about 5 minutes .... after hours finding this clip.
Hi Stephen, thanks for the feedback. Lots of people break the plastic tab that holds the key together so we were trying to stop that happening....glad it helped :)
One of those videos that just keeps on giving doesn't it? Made it easy and prevented me from breaking off the Little "Don't break this off" part! Thanks car key man!
Thanks for the step by step guide. Mazda wanted £10 for a new battery but with your video and Amazon (to get a precision tool kit and 2batteries) it cost £3!!
Thanks for the video! Watched a few others before seeing this one - by far this is the easiest method of opening the key. Got the battery replaced in under a minute, thanks!
Brilliant tutorial, shows it all! Shame the chap at the garage where i bought my MX-5 from didn't watch this vid and take note NOT to glue my key fob together... I'll be buying a new key then 🤦 Thanks again!
Hi Cody, thankyou, that is very kind. We made this through frustration, that a simple problem seemed so difficult to overcome. Your feedback is appreciated
Great video - really clear. As a 47 year old male, I am every bit as proud of myself as Fran ;) thanks Car Key Man - was the spare fob but life much easier with two :)
omg THANK YOU!!!! I replaced my battery a few days ago but didn’t get the new one to work, turns out I had put the battery upside down 😅 Took this video for me to realise what was wrong, I’ve been opening the key probably 10 times trying to figure out what I did wrong

Great video... just follow the instructions and you can't go wrong. $15 at the Mazda dealer. Batteries from Amazon: about $1.50 each. And I have three fobs. About $40 saved. Thanks much!

Thanks for the video. Mine was a bit hard to open, turns out the last owner broke the tab and glued it shut. Anyway, replaced the battery successfully.
Hi, can you tell me please how to know when to change the battery and also what is that button for next to the one for openning the boot of the car? Thank you for the video!
I've snapped my tab off. I'm going to try making a new clip or failing that, wedge a thin cable tie inside and if all else fails, get a new key as a last resort. Thanks for the video, I only bought the car a couple of days ago. 👍
It's a real problem, so many people break it trying to change the key battery. Have you seen our video on how to change the case? th-cam.com/video/sA2cQnN4VGU/w-d-xo.html
Hi. I saw both your videos to change the battery and reprogram it. I hope the reprogramming will work like you say. But I'm trying to change the battery in my key. Mine is a Mazda 6. 2006 2.3L Sedan. I located the small tab inside to separate the two key components. But on yours to open it, you have three rectagulated slots. One on each side and one in the middle that you put your flat screwdriver in to delicately twisted it open. But mine doesn't have that tab to open it. I don't wanna break it. So how and where do I go to separate it to get to the battery. Please let me know. Thanks!
That was very useful. I figured out how to separate the two parts but couldn't figure out how to open up the battery housing and didn't want to risk poking around and forcing it open (my manual covered a key fob). BUT HOLD ON JUST A SECOND! IS THAT A MITSUBISHI EMBLEM? INSIDE MY MAZDA KEY?! COOL! 😜 Oh, I've also noticed people asking about the forth button up there. Now, I'm assuming that like in my car, when pressing the lock button it will also arm the alarm. So, according to the manual (though I haven't tested that myself yet), after you lock your car, you have 20 seconds to disable your alarm.
This was extremely helpful, thanks, the little tab at 20-30 seconds, is there a way of replace that mechanism without getting a whole new key cut and programmed at all?
As of April 2020 285 dislike the simple video, because the ate and chocked on the battery! Gratitude people, it was super straight forward. Good news if you swallowed the battery, its going to grow into a 12V car battery in your stomach! Arghhhhhh
Cheers, been meaning to change the battery in the fob for weeks but I kept putting it off and would end up cursing my self when I had to use the key in the door and set the alarm off at 6.30 in the morning in a quiet cul-de-sac!
Hey thanks for the video. I have almost exactly the same fob except mine does not have the two fancy buttons at the bottom for the car boot and alien transmission.
Thank you for your brilliant videos. May I ask would the key fob light up still if the battery needed replacing as neither key fobs are unlocking the car but both lights still work. My driver side door stopped unlocking a few weeks ago and now none of the doors will unlock. So I can't get in my car at all now. Thanks

Hello Juergon, thanks for the kind words. Yes, I'm hoping for a sponsor from a hand care company ;)

Thanks for the comments Malvin, it's much appreciated :)
Another year I had to come back to remember how it is done. Thank you for your good work.
Good to hear you came back :)

Absolutely brilliant piece of instructions which warns of all the pitfalls to avoid. As 'how-to' videos go, this is top notch.
Thank you Steve, we really appreciate you leaving this feedback
Instructions were close to perfect. I never would have figured it out without you. Thanks, much.

Has just worked perfectly for my 2014 Mazda. Very well done step by step video showing you all the crucial bits you need to know. Thanks so much!!!!
Thanks Angela :)
Thank you so much for this!! I have just "fixed" my car myself. As a 57 year old technophobe female, I am exceedingly proud of myself!

Thanks for watching Linda, really appreciate the feedback :)
Excellent video. The best I found! The rest sort of tell you how to butcher the keys while changing battery. Appreciate the professional advice.
Thanks a lot :)
Thanks for the step by step guide. Mazda wanted £10 for a new battery but with your video and Amazon (to get a precision tool kit and 2batteries) it cost £3!!
That's great, thanks for the feedback
Saved me 26 bucks getting this done by the key guy in the mall! Happy Days! 👍👍
Hi I have to watch a few videos to know how to change the battery, but you are really good thanks a lot 🙏.

Excellent vid, but I did notice that buttons were wrong when you reassembled after showing how they drop out. I'm sure you went on to correct it. ;)
Were they? Good spot if your correct. It's been about two years since I made it, hopefully it hasn't confused anyone! Thanks for watching :)
@@TheCarKeyMan Done it today and you were spot on with the method. Thanks because tabs could have been broken, lol.

Thanks so much for this video. Saved me a lot of money and hassle!
You're welcome Stuart, thanks for watching :)
Worked like a charm for my Mazda 5 key! Thanks!
That's great :-)
Thanks for the video. Mine was a bit hard to open, turns out the last owner broke the tab and glued it shut. Anyway, replaced the battery successfully.
Hi, yes we see this sometimes. Well done and thanks for the feedback :)

Very clear and very descriptive , great vid!
Thanks Tony :)
Hi, can you tell me please how to know when to change the battery and also what is that button for next to the one for openning the boot of the car? Thank you for the video!
Hi Stephy, I think when you notice the range isn't as good as it used to be is a good sign. The other button is a panic button I beleive
Slow and easy instructions, perfect.
Thanks Edward, really pleased it helped you :)
Thanks for taking the time to make this, very helpful👍

Brilliant video mate, very good instructions and explanation! Thanks a bunch
You're welcome, thanks for the feedback :)
Thanks a lot, I changed the battery today.
Well done!
COOL! 😜
Oh, I've also noticed people asking about the forth button up there.
Now, I'm assuming that like in my car, when pressing the lock button it will also arm the alarm.
So, according to the manual (though I haven't tested that myself yet), after you lock your car, you have 20 seconds to disable your alarm.
Glad this helped Kynda, yes the Mitsubishi company make just about everything!
Thanks for the extra info on the fourth button
This was extremely helpful, thanks, the little tab at 20-30 seconds, is there a way of replace that mechanism without getting a whole new key cut and programmed at all?
