- Finnish concert organist Kalevi Kiviniemi improvising at the Cavaillé-Coll organ, St. Ouen, Rouen, France, October 2008, during the recording of CD/Multichannel SACD "Kalevi Kiviniemi: Cavaillé-Coll" (OrganERA vol.14, FUGA-9282, www.fuga.fi). Recorded in HD.
As in all videos here, audio is taken from original high definition multi channel recording, not from video camera´s own microphone or video camera´s audio system. The better your computer's audio system is, the better the sound - of course within the limitations of TH-cam audio. Sadly, l'orgue de Saint-Ouen is tired, though still magnificent. It needs a thorough overhaul - and those keys need to be re-covered. It looks as though some of them have lost their ivory covers altogether.
PLEASE say there's a DVD/Blu-ray of this performance? Pretty please?

Indrek Pringi St. Ouen (Owen) is the name of the cathedral in Rouen.
@@audinos4827 st ouen is in abbey in Rouen, it is not the main cathedral.

Drivel. Played on a big organ with big & unconrollable acoustic. I keep listening for a 'coherent melodic development.
Big reverberant acoustics are key to making any organ sound good. There's plenty of melody in this for those of us with ears...

Rubbish. Three chord tricks in the French style. The fingers move but the hands do not. No melody / theme. No development. Full marks to the electric motor and the acoustic though.
Yes, I agree. This 'trick' is the norm for guys like Latry, but this will get the procession from the sanctuary and out the rear door without hurting the brain too much.

Michael Price/mickwable You should not stop to think where music starts. You may search for whatever you want - but to blame this improvisation or Latry to use "cheap tricks" proofs a limited understanding of music and how it works. The power of music is not necessarily reduced to its technical/harmonic or whatever brilliance. There are more parameters. If you attend a seminar with Olivier you´ll learn, that he improvises that style because it´s his style and not the maximum of his capacities. You may like that or not, but you´ll stop talking this way, when you learn from one of the most talented organists today. Believe me .....
