An idilic looking place! cant help recalling tidal waves in W Samoa after the quake there...water front resorts like this. Thanks it was enjoyable to watch. Rgds Laurence
OMG - brings back painful memories, good memories. Doug Bowles was a friend down there who flew down just like this guy from CA. We drove to that little hotel on Gonzaga Bay (is it?) and i met Papa Fernandez when he was 103. He told us the story of how John Wayne helped to secure his property. And I see his daughter Alfonsina has done very well with the place. What a blast from the past though. Looks like the water's higher - global warming? We drove there in the dark and had no idea where we were, how beautiful it was, until the sun came up. It's kind of sad to see it all settled like this, but what can you expect? Always thought I might sail up there, although it might be a lot of tacking if the wind wasn't right.
Over 50 years ago my parents took me there on vacation a few times, we flew into the airport and stayed at Alfonsina’s, there wasn’t much there then only a few houses. I got to meet Alfonsina and her husband.
love it, I know its from awhile ago, but great, everytime I go down to Rancho Grande I alway wanted to go up in a plane..... we are going for this Fathersday 2016...
Make sure to make arrangements to stay at Alfonsina's before you go out, because there are really no other beach front hotels there and the lady who runs the front desk is a real witch. We showed up off season midweek thinking we should be good. WRONG! The lady at the front desk noticed was rude and when I asked her for 3 rooms she said sorry we only have 2 when I turned around and told my family to get there ok and turned back around to her she tells me "oh sorry we only have 1 room now". Total witch. Apparently they are well known for doing that. So make your arrangements well in advance. Word to the wise.
A few friends and I used to fly from Colorado to Los Frailes each February to spend a week camping on the beach and would try to make it to Alfonsina's the first day. That would have been in 1980. That was when beds were $4.00 a night and the rooms had no doors. Only half a dozen cabins along the beach. Landing on sand was interesting in my C-210. Some stories and photos can be found in my website www.jimforeman.com Look for Baja Bunch.
I can’t wait to make this trip.!!!
That is the life! I have camped on the beach in Gonzaga Bay a couple times. What a beautiful place. This makes me want my pilots license.
Did you get it? I flew a old Navion a few times to Cabo back in the 70's.what a blast.
Thanks for sharing your video.

sounds like the type of lady to take reservations but not keep them to me.
What's the phone number to book at alfonsinas resort? Please!!!
Yeah the staff there are just terrible. I have no idea why they are so unfriendly.
I think he says he had a Navion, which is a nice older single engine aircraft.
