Late to the party, but, can someone please explain how resizing a BMP would give a worse result than resizing a PNG? Isn't the only difference in the fact that PNG can use a color palette and pixels point to those colours instead of storing each colour in each pixel?
Both are still pixel based, not sure I understand why resizing one or the other would provide a different result.

Its based on the way it compresses the image, they use different compression algorithms.
