Ajax is also a Greek character. Fun fact the dish detergent Ajax's slogan is "Stronger than grease". Ajax in Greek mythology was the strongest man in all of Greece I believe. So, Ajax is literally stronger than Greece😂.
6:03 That is actually something the author of the novel, Sol Yurick, said the makers of the movie got wrong. He said, and he studied gangs in New York before writing the novel, the various gangs would all be of one race. The Warriors in the novel are all Latino but the studio wouldn't make a movie with all Latino leads. Note however, that the beginning of the movies says "some time in the future". So it obviously takes place in a more inclusive time.
I didn't know they paid homage to The Warriors, that's awesome. We're gonna have to watch John Wick 4 pretty soon it sounds like if we want to see for ourselves. Thanks for stopping by, you're right, this is a true classic!
That's so awesome. How genius was that of David Patrick Kelly? That was just one of the things too that made this movie such a masterpiece. Thanks for sharing!
The High Hats. The Boppers. The Electric Eliminators. The Savage Huns. The Lizzy's. The Turnbull A.C.'s. The Orphans. The Punks (they were the ones on the rollerskates in the subway). The Gramercy Riffs. The Rogues. The Baseball Fury's.
When I was 15, after seeing the 1979 film, THE WARRIORS, IN 1980, I DRESSED UP AS ONE OF THE BASEBALL FURRIES. MY SISTER, WENT AS ONE OF THE 'LIZZIES'!!!
It was worth staying up for! I'll drink to that! It was also one of my dad's favorites, in fact, it was one of the first, if not the first, movie we ever rented when we got our VCR back in 1984. Yep, I'm that old 😂
I was probably 7 or 8 when I saw this in 1990 if that gives my age away. lol. We were happy to do this one. Thanks for recommending it for us. We had our Horror Convention last weekend also, and got to meet John Carpenter. You'll see his autograph on the Lopan Warhol in a few weeks when it all catches up. Thought you would appreciate that. Great hearing from you as always!😎
@@CocktailFlicks I am green with envy now but it's so great you met the man himself! Carpenter is a GOAT. But if I would have been there, I'm afraid I would behave like a total village idiot, completely starstruck and in aw 😂😂😂, the poor man
Hey guys, I really enjoyed your reaction. I saw this in the theaters when it came out. Great movie for the times, and I'm from New York (the other side of the state). Have you seen Jojo Rabbit? Have you seen Only The Brave with Josh Brolin? How about 12 Strong? After Hours, a Martin Scorsese dark comedy from 1985? Great movies. React to them if you haven't seen them. Keep up the great reactions.
Thank you very much, that must have been awesome to watch in theatres. I know your in a different part of New York, but do you know by any chance how far they were from Coney Island in miles when they were at the big meeting? To answer your question, I don't think either one of us has seen these movies. If Dan get's a chance, I will have him jump in and give his answer. As for me , I haven't seen any of them. Thanks for the recommendations, they are always welcome!
Great movie choice. It's a lot more than just another action, violence exploitation movie. One thing I like about it is that it takes place in a fictitious New York City. I'm pretty sure that there was no gang in NYC that dressed up in baseball uniforms and put make-up on their faces. It also has a lot of quotable lines like "Warriors come out and play," or Mercy's "This is the life I got left." Thanks. Good reaction.
I agree, this movie turned out to be on another level compared to other movies like it from the 70's. The Greek story of Courage "Anabasis" being the inspiration for this makes the enjoyment of it even better. Thanks for watching with us. Great to hear from you again!
1. When this came out many of the larger cities didn't run it. They were afraid it would lead to gang violence. 2, Late 70s soundtrack. 3. My favorite character is Luther. He's f-ing nuts. 4. "Warriors, come out to play" was ad lib. The director told David Patrick Kelly to come up with something menacing and he looked back to when he was a kid and a creepy old neighbor used to torment the kids by taunting them to come out to play. 5. End it with Joe Walsh.
Great facts, thanks for sharing. I didn't know it wasn't shown in many cities for fear of gang violence, that's interesting. David Patrick Kelly was amazing as Luther. His line being ad lib was awesome, who knew it would become such an iconic line?
23:39 I thought the same since they got back even though it's early in the morning theu should've had people ready to help when they got back. 26:07 got me and I laughed hard, but glad I wasn't the only one thinking about that in the end.
We're your grandparents afraid of the GAMBINOS, JOHN DILLINGER, BONNIE & CLYDE. OR YOUR GREAT GRANDPARENTS NOT AFRAID OF DOC HOLIDAY, BILL HICKOCK, THE EURPS, BUTCH CASSIDY, BILLY THE KID?
I can't see how people think this movie is good ? It's a joke. The gangs are ridiculous, What gang dresses up to go fight ? The Warriors are so skinny, How can they hurt anyone ? The Mimes against the Boppers, is this a comedy ? Very juvenile and silly.
I remember renting the warriors from Hollywood video as a kid. It's still one of my favorite movies. Bummer you guys watched the directors cut. imo the original version is better.
When I was younger, I was attacked by a gang of mimes, what they did to me is, unspeakable
Oh my, haha. I understand if you don't want to talk about it, I would have put up invisible walls around me too!
Mimes. Out of all ppl to be attacked by? Where do I find these mimes? Lol

A straight up classic. I love that John Wick 4 paid homage to this beast of a film.

Not only was the line "Warriors, come out to play" ad-libbed, but the clinking of the bottles with the three fingers was too.
That's so awesome. How genius was that of David Patrick Kelly? That was just one of the things too that made this movie such a masterpiece. Thanks for sharing!
Played the ps2 game before watching the movie lol. Both are great!
I haven't played the game, But I love the movie. I might get it on steam if it's available!
This Movie is a classic in every sense of the word. It had a ridiculous amount of gangs. How many of them can you name of here in the comments?
The High Hats. The Boppers. The Electric Eliminators. The Savage Huns. The Lizzy's. The Turnbull A.C.'s. The Orphans. The Punks (they were the ones on the rollerskates in the subway). The Gramercy Riffs. The Rogues. The Baseball Fury's.
@@jannetkoolman5645 Well done, That's a hell of a list. You made that look easy!
@@CocktailFlicks I should be ashamed of myself if I didn't know this, this is one of my all time absolute favorits!
Because of the actual gangs in the boroughs, the GANGS had to look a bit cartoonish!!! You dig Brother!!!!!
Good 70s Classic. I watched The Warriors for the first time myself a while back.
I saw this when I was way younger, and loved it then as much as I do now. I'm happy to hear you like it too. Glad to hear from you again!

The actor who played widows, also starred with AL Pacino, in the film, AND JUSTICE FOR ALL!!!
The story of the Greek mercenaries was also referenced in Harold Coyle`s book "The March of the Ten Thousand."

The actress, with the awesome lips, is MS. THIGPEN. SADLY, I HAVE FORGOTTEN THIS WOMAN'S 1ST NAME!! FORGIVE MY DEMENTIA!!!
Ajax was played by Mr. James Remaar!!
"...Warriors, come and playyyyy....." Still relevant today, especially with politicians.

It's the 70's , that's how they used to wear in real life, they even used real gang members
