What if medical cannabis could be a cure for most severe diseases, such as cancer or AIDS?
As a matter of fact, molecules inside marijuana are now at the center of medical research around the world. There are more and more scientists, doctors, and psychologists encouraging the therapeutic and controlled use of cannabinoids for specific treatments. While in France the use of this plant remains strictly illegal, the Israeli government authorized the production, sale, and utilization of medicinal cannabis - in order to cure serious illnesses.
Several federal states of America have been legalizing it. In some states like Colorado, children and adults suffering from epilepsy crises or multiple sclerosis can find some relief thanks to this special drug. This has created a new form of internal migration - "the medical displaced". Even more promising, Spanish researchers have just discovered and tested how cannabinoids can kill cancer cells in laboratory mice.

While i wholeheartedly agree with total legalization and normalization of cannabis, i am against this pseudoscientific glorification of cannabis. It is IMPOSSIBLE that cannabis can "cure cancer" (ie selectively kill cancerous cells?) or "cure AIDS" (ie selectively destroy viral DNA embedded in human cells?). These claims are laughable. Cannabis should be treated like any other recreational drug: nicotine, caffeine, alcohol. They have benefits and risks.

That's the real problem. People who like weed so much they don't want to hear the negative side to their drug of choice. There are numerous studies showing marijuanas negative effects on the developing brain. There are studies showing it increases biomarkers which correlate with Schizophrenia. There are studies which show it causes emotional blunting. There are studies showing it's even worse than cigarettes when smoked (this consequence could be prevented though by adjusting of ROA). Still, enough evidence showing marijuana should be used in moderation by the gross amount of people and prevented from being used by the younger ones.

I started smoking weed as a rebellious teenager & and without even realising it I was seizure free for 4 years. I then married a rather straight laced young lady & started medication again. Of course break through seizures occurred again.
Thankfully I managed to find a good neurologist & slowly found a regime of meds that works, EXCEPT for partial complex seizures.
As such, I'm seriously considering starting the weed again.
Problem being Australia does not have legal use of the natural resource & only medicinal for severe cases.

Didier Jutras-Aswad, chief of a former research on CBD for opioïds treatment complained about bureaucracy blocking his research. A couple years later commented about CBD as a placebo and now is about to justify the total absence of 2THC:1CBD genetic ratios with yet another "study"... In short i wouldn't present Canada's « légaleezation » as a successful model to follow! Quite the opposite as it's the alcohol industry who's been put in charge of our miserable SQdC state MONOPOLY, forgetting to mention that same man who provided them $¢ientifi¢ advise actually acted as moderator of the 2nd CSAM-SMCA Symposium on *ADDICTION* of 2017.

@@GenerationJonesi The over-billing/over-taxation of CBD and water "saves" nobody and that's by design. Same thing about transportation and concentration limits resulting in some ~50 % additional punishment for seeking 2THC:1CBD ratios - it tried. The joint UN/WHO declaration of mi-December 2017 should have caused CBD to fall under the provinces jurisdictions, in Québec the minister of agriculture, fisheries and forestry i think; e.g. CBD should have been sold besides letuce and tomatoes for years - nobody "saved" there neither... On top of it concentration limits actually reflect technology limits with analytical instruments rather than the specific molecules, treating CBD the same as THC and hence in plain denial of its applications + required bio-availability levels... Still doing nothing to compete the «organized crime » of Pascal Robidas (Radio-Canada) who once stated it belonged to asian mafia as much as 98 %! And if it stil doesn't add up enough try H.-C.'s catalog of 96 Pest Control ("sanitory") Products used by INDU$TRIALS without combinatorial C(n, r) restrictions, paving the way to astronomical numbers actually making it impossible to test ALL savvy synergy-boosted soups in the real world, much less produce any credible long-term studies before a couple generations. In The Name Of Children.
Some persons seem obviously happy to celebrate in Calgary and Vancouver, even dance during the next 4-20 which in Québec got cancelled in Québec city last year, by the way. So that's starting to pile up in quite the wrong direction, but hey, that's only me... Right??

The prohibition in the US was supported by the petroleum/petrochemical industry as you can make various materials/substances from hemp (plastic, fuel...they even made a lightweight car) so it was in their interest to make full prohibition to avoid any competition.

I pray that one day the UK government finally sees sense and stops prohibition laws against weed if not all drugs. But Im realistic enough to know it isnt going to happen any time soon. Its gonna take at least until my parents generation leaves the voting pool. The brainwashing runs too deep and no political party wants to run the risk of upsetting the ignorant masses.

Completely agree. But since when has our government ever seen sense!? It's all about votes, not sense. I think it was the Tories who brought in a professor to examine cannabis and it's effects on a scientific level then publish the results, but because the results were almost nothing but positive, they sacked him! Idiots.

Stigmatized in very few places any more. I literally medicate and then go to the park for walks and exercise.
The same parks that used to warn me that having pot within 1000 ft was a felony.
Even when it was illegal here, I was a cancer patient, my doctor knew I smoked illegal marijuana and he never once said not to.
When cancer and chemo shut off my appetite, the only thing that brought it back after 6 days of no eating, not even with hospital prescribed appetite stimulants..
One joint, after I got home, was all it took to make me crave food, and turn it all around. It's not only medical, it's capable of things pharma can't do... period.

I think cannabis should be free to buy in shops for whatever reason you want it. Alcohol is also addictive but are we all alcoholic? No! Knives can be bought freely in the shops, are we all murderers? No! If someone would abuse their use of cannabis they will, but it is the same way with alcohol or knives etc. ...so if they are legal than cannabis should be also.

Not everyone is an alcoholic, but many people are. If alcohol was created today it probably wouldn't be legal because of the hard is causes to society. The benefits of knives vastly outweigh the harm done by them.
Most narcotics should definitely be decriminalised, as imprisioning people for possession doesn't help anyone. It would make more sense to allow people to buy drugs from regulated outlets aimed at those that have drug additions, not for profit to to prevent crime help those who have drug addictions.
Cannabis has the potential to help so many people treat pain and illness, but the problem is that it's being pushed by many people as a cure-all, which it really isn't.
