Because there is no film footage of him dancing. This was created from stills, I hope that you have some appreciation for the undertaking this poster invested.
As a child I was fascinated by ballet and Nijinsky. Utterly thrilling to see see actual footage of him, all these years later. So ahead of his time. Can't thank you enough.
The very definition of a labor of love. I cannot imagine the work that went into gathering the stills needed to create this remarkable piece, and then bringing them to life as you have. Thank you for this gift.
I never thought I'd see Nijinsky dance, seen plenty of pictures but this is wonderful. Yes it is dis-jointed and choppy but still, it's unbelievable, to think this was danced over 100 years ago and here we are today being able to see this wonderful dancer. Thank you for putting this together, it is truly amazing to see this.

Knew his choreography was considered "difficult" at the time, and he had trouble getting the classically trained dancers to execute it, but even these few clips shown here prove that he was an innovator, and way ahead of his time, imo. Thank you so much for yr film. As a life time admirer, I never thought I'd see anything like this.
I am so obsessed with Vaslav Nijinsky, this is so overwhelming, make up, moves, esthetics, such a genius, so ahead his time , I ve been into Tribal for a while and now I see how much of his legacy there is in our scene.
I'm re-reading all my books on Nijinsky at the moment - the one by his wife, published 1933, I've had since 1963! I didn't think there was any film of Nijinsky dancing, never thought I would see this! :)
I’ve read about him but here he is. Just the way Stravinsky’s biographers describe him. So unexpected. This was when photography involved exploding flashes to create one still picture. They were still doing that in the 1920s. THANKS!

It would have been quite easy to produce a "reconstruction" with much better quality - but what would have been gained? I think the deliberately fragmentary and primitive nature of this video expresses exactly the great sadness of the fact that there's no film of the man himself. In this way it becomes a personal expression of loss. Having seen the marvellous exhibition on Diaghilev at the V&A a while ago, I really value this film. The exhibition was slightly marred, in my opinion, by the addition of some pretty dire modern "hommages". This film, in their place, would have made a perfect, poignant ending to the show. Thanks for all the work that clearly went into it, and thanks for sharing it.
I confirmed, it is indeed a real film of Rudolf Nureyev and Vaslav Nijinsky in one scene. The great surprising fact here is that the footage is about 9 minutes long, which is huge considering that his manager didn't want him to get filmed. He is god like in the footage, moving with such divine grace, so lithely! I highly recommend you check that footage out.
exactly there is something so haunting and beautiful about fragmented way these photos have been animated and brought to life. it's like they flicker, come alive for only a second than fade away, a memory of distant time. I love it.
It pains me to watch these clips with what I have learned about this artist. Just to pursue what he was born and loved to do, he had to endure being pursued by a pervert. No wonder his career lasted a short 10 years and than late in life was in a mental institution. What the human spirit will endure for art.
