- Good times were had by all. Spent some time up at the Sig Academy shooting the EDC Championship Match last month. It's a great match that caters to a broader audience with their updated divisions. Not only that, more dynamic movement and shots fired. Plus, the "k-zone" target introduction.
I break the debrief down into the match, my lessons learned and the gear I used.
The match was a 3-day event with 4 different divisions; micro-compact, compact iron sights, compact red dots and full size. There were 10 stages of various complexity and just under 200 rounds fired. There was a greater emphasis on movement and head shots; which I really liked.
On the lessons learned. I break it down into the "good, bad & add". What did I do good that I want to sustain: 1.) engaged at max distance. 2.) more head shots 3.) fine tuned the drawstroke. What did I do bad I want to improve: 1.) faster first shots 2.) smoother speed reloads 3.) better target focus. What am I going to add to my training: 1.) more make up shots 2.) more dynamic movement 3.) greater emphasis on instinctual shooting.
As for my gear, well it ran flawlessly and nothing really much to add. I do need more work at over riding my muscle memory for reloads with the Neo-Mag though. Ran the Sig P365 Micro with Romeo X Compact in a Tenicor Certum3 IWB holster strong side with the Abdo magazine pouch at the 10:00. Everything was supported with their Zero belt. While I've been running this setup for the majority of this year, it was nice to pressure test.

Hi Jeff. I was in your group that day. Definitely a great event. I’m glad it wasn’t Sig firearm exclusive like previous matches. That’s one reason the event was so much larger and more successful. Sig Academy is also doing an amazing job with their events and I participate at last 3 times per month over there.
I agree heavily with the “gear proving” opportunity it provides. That’s one of the best things about participating in matches. You learn so much about your gear and setup shooting a match. I encourage more people to do it.
What's up Alan, thanks for reaching out and great to connect. A huge benefit to being in that region, jealous😉 It was a lot of fun, so many lessons learned. Hopefully we squad up next year, already looking forward to it.
@@TridentConcepts Yes, I’m definitely lucky. I pretty much exclusively do Academy events. Chris and Derek run an amazing competition venue and the Academy classes are second to none. I’ll definitely be participating next year, so I’ll see you there.
Love the practical and realistic form of competition. K zone target also makes great sense. Good stuff.
Thanks, it was fun.
Greetings… is the matchbook available to review
