Lyrics:
Something has to change
Undeniable dilemma
Boredom's not a burden anyone should bear
Constant overstimulation numbs me
But I would not want you any other way
Just not enough, I need more
Nothing seems to satisfy
I said, I don't want it, I just need it
To breathe, to feel, to know I'm alive
Finger deep within the borderline
Show me that you love me and that we belong together
Relax, turn around and take my hand
I can help you change
Tired moments into pleasure
Say the word and we'll be
Well upon our way, blend and balance
Pain and comfort, deep within you
Till you will not want me any other way
But it's not enough, I need more
Nothing seems to satisfy
I said, I don't want it, I just need it
To breathe, to feel, to know I'm alive
Knuckle deep inside the borderline
This may hurt a little but it's something you'll get used to
Relax, slip away
Something kinda sad about
The way that things have come to be
Desensitized to everything
What became of subtlety?
How can this mean anything to me
If I really don't feel anything at all? Yeah
I'll keep digging
Till I feel something
Elbow deep inside the borderline
Show me that you love me and that we belong together
Shoulder deep within the borderline
Relax, turn around and take my hand - เพลง
With Tool's music, there's a "first time", and then there's the REAL first time (when you finally realize how really good the song is).
That second first time doesn’t stop happening tho. Still, you are right. There happens at some point a “click”.
@@Iamthenoi True true. As long as I'm always coming back here, it means I'm still savoring that second "first time". I doubt it'll ever end.
That would be Rosetta Stoned for me. The first time I heard it, it was somewhat crude. Now it's one of my favorite songs by Tool.
@@supernovagamer929 I think I can say that about a lot of TOOL songs lol but Rosetta Stoned is such a beast, I see why you emphasized on it (it's different from most TOOL songs).

Absolutely awesome ,, MOTIVATION
My late husband's band used to cover this song and a couple other Tool songs over the years he was with the band. Him and the bassist used to just really get into it. I remember sitting in on practices and watching them. My husband would be soaked with sweat after playing any Tool song (or Rush) because the drums were SUCH a work out. He died last year at age 46, and I have been looking up songs he used to cover to listen to when I can't bring myself to listen to his original stuff just yet. I remember sitting in the singer's living room while they rehearsed this particular song in their set. Him with his long hair flying as he played back before he cut it for "a good day job" and the bassist standing in front of him swaying back and forth with him.
much love to you and your husband! i'm glad you were able to be exposed to this incredible band through his covers
@@VarTheVenerator I was a fan of Tool before they ever did a cover in the band, he was as well but I really enjoyed watching and listening to him get to play songs he loved. It is coming up on 1 year since I lost him. Sucks so bad. He was only 46.
Sorry you lost him so early. 😥
Your recollection is awesome. It's apparent that you loved and so importantly, understood him.
@@jwilliama4427 Musicians are a unique breed that's for sure. The absolute pure joy of watching and listening to him play was something I'll never forget. Our son was raised around the bands he played in and didn't become a musician but he plays music for the joy of it. He took up piano, plays by ear, so he passed that along at least.

Second listen: This is a song about overindulgence.

Right? its a great part to play because you can feel the emotion with the way they wrote it specifically to just let you whale on the strings as hard as you want to. I love that common theme with tool songs, it's one of the reasons I keep coming back to them. Their music has a sense of simplicity that a lot of pretentious guitarists would say are too common in rock music but the sheer amount of emotion put into it with the involved bass makes it stand out apart from the rest to me.

This song and whole album is a masterclass in song writing. I’ve listened to this album for 25 years and these songs still never fail to move me.
4:13 That high note sounds absolutely amazing.
His voice never stop to amaze me.
Even after hundreds of listens, the impact and sheer rawness of this song never fails me. I go back to this song whenever I feel overwhelmed / overstimulated by constant tasks, distractions, and challenges that desensitize me and disconnect me from life and the core of my being. Not only do the lyrics make me feel solidarity with the struggles and suffering of humanity, but the drive and pulsing rage in the music is incredibly empowering. The breakdown at 3:31 gives me an almost indescribable feeling-it makes me feel like the deepest and truest part of my being can overcome and outlast everything... it makes me feel infinite. One of my favorite moments in music ever.
Side note: I was just listening now as it was raining, and right as aforementioned breakdown happened, the clouds opened up and the sun came through amidst the rain... pretty poetic moment.
Or when you're just in the mood to listen to a song about fisting 😂😂

Nicely put
I always loved how this mix never really stereo spreads the big double tracked guitars till the very last chorus. Most modern rock records do that right from the jump to try and grab your attention but this has to restraint to save it till it really kicks. (Of course there's double tracked stereo throughout, it just doesn't REALLY open up till 4:34)
Everything about this song is perfect. It's one of my favorites of all time. It's an emotional journey with every listen. Very powerful. It really tugs at the ol heart strings. As is the case with most of TOOL songs, but this one especially.

Everytime I listen to tool it feels like I’m hearing tool for the first time again. Just awesome.
Almost a quarter century since this songs release into this world, and I can still remember exactly where I was when I first heard it. This song carries such a strong nostalgia with it for me, capable of teleporting me instantly back those many years. With vivid clarity I remember how it felt to hear it for the first time, like a siren calling me to come crash upon the rocks, and which I did without hesitation. The haunting melodies just carry me away. Like a true lover, it captivated me and has held dominion over my heart ever since. I can say with certainty that no other song has ever had quite such an effect on me. This song, this band, changed my life.
At the time this came out in 1996, there was so much good music being created and released that it completely spoiled me and my circle of friends. We thought this is how it is, this is what life is like -- constant good music. God, I couldn't have been more wrong. But even in the midst of perhaps the greatest 5-7 years in hard rock history, this song -- indeed the entire album -- stood out.
I Saw tool 2 nights ago in Canada. They closed with this song. It was incredible.
I was there!
Good analogy for metal music. Harsh at first but once you get it, everything just doesn't have enough of a punch to really satisfy.

This has been my warm up everytime I go to practice for the past 12 years, and after a thousand plus times playing this song, it still gives me chills. The buildup during the break leaves me breathless

Legend for posting this comment mate !!!!
it's hooked me !
I had a brand new Rockford fosgate system I installed in my little hatchback Toyota tercel and I tested it out using this song back in 1996. 4 competition series' in 2 different bandpass boxes. It jammed!!!
I can never get enough of this band. Pure magic 💯🤘🤘
25 years ago this was the first tool song I ever heard. Haven’t heard a better band since.
I remember when I was in the 8th grade and the highschool band came to our school and played this. It was so epic because Tool is so badass!
GREATEST. BAND. ON. THE. PLANET.
Shalom from Oklahoma USA, smoking some of my killer farm grown kind buds I grow myself and still jamming the Tool nightly at 56. Enjoying the view of the Ozark mountains and a wonderful sunset, life is beautiful indeed if your in the right state
That intro always gives me chills. 10/10 opener to a 10/10 album.
