Hannah Barbara cartoon characters always had something around their neck, such as a scarf, ascot, large neck collars, etc. This was to make head movement easier, as they didn't have to paint new cells for the body and head together. The neck pieces were markers for the animators so lining up the shot connecting the head and neck would be easier. EDIT: Shaggy built different guys, he doesn't count. XD
That happened a lot in Danger Mouse & Count Duckula cartoons, albeit those came out way later. They were both on Boomerang with old Hanna Barbara cartoons tho

The little detail of Pim’s feet moving really quick cause he’s shorter and Charlie’s moving slow cause he’s tall is so spot on for the HB style. Great job 😂
All of modern mainstream animation ultimately has to give props to Hanna-Barbera. Without them, animation as the industry we know it today would not exist.
@@RipRLeeErmey definitely true, but adult swim does have the unique quality of their firzt shows being literally made out of old hanna barbera animation cells as a cost cutting measure

god I love this, fantastic work! The juxtaposition of the Hanna Barbara style and the iconic nonsense, single-take, Zach/Michael-style dialogue is crazy
These episodes mustn't be chronological because I'm pretty sure Pims halloween trip beyond the rickety bridge and theough the woods was the most terrifying thing that he's experienced.
The audio is so well executed. The visuals are spot on but the audio really elevates it. And i love the drop shadow on the characters! Great attention to detail my guy.
This is perfect. I grew up binge boomerang network of old hanna-barbera cartoons and never stopped watching cartoons. So smiling friends was so awesome to get into. This fusion is beautiful and sums up my interests all in one neat little package
It’s funny how it unintentionally ends up feeling more like a very early adult swim show with the limited animation movements and the dry dialogue. Like if you told me this was pitched at the same meetings as Space Ghost and Aqua Teen I would absolutely believe that.
Wow I never would've imagined seeing Smiling friends in this style but I'm glad I got this recommended because I would've missed this wonderful animation. It's really nice seeing this style especially these days, I mean I'm a young guy but I enjoyed watching these when I was younger. Thank you for this I loved this and I hope the guys at smiling friends see this.
Man now I want to see a Smiling Friends Halloween special completely done in this style. With the plot being they have to make a guy smile by solving the mystery of why their creepy giant mansion is haunted.
the way charlie talks over pim just reminds me of all those toxic friends that are just hanging out with you because they're waiting for their turn to make it about themselves
Oh my god this blew up out of NOWHERE!!! Im so glad you guys enjoyed this 🫶 more fun stuff’s on the way!
hooray
Bro I was wonder on my first watch why this video only had like 2.3k! This deserves wayyyy more views!! Congrats!!
I agree
It's Hanna Barbera btw
Out of curiosity, could you make the whole first episode of smiling friends but in hanna banana style?
That head motion on Pim is spot on
HOLY CRAP IT'S SHUNKS
Hey
Hello
Hi shunks :3
oh my golly shunks and the smiling friends in the same room
You really nailed the style, the simple walk cycles, the stilted animation, the way they move their heads without shifting their bodies at all
Now all you need to do is reuse these animations about 4 times per 6 minute episode and you're golden
the head animations is what really ties it together for me
@ThorDude i dont need to walk around in circles, walk around in circles, walk around in...
All that’s missing is the pointless sound effects every five seconds
Also how while they're talking their heads move up and down that's a nice touch
That look into the camera, like Barney straight out of Flintstones.
That boss sure is a character, huh Fred? A heh heh heh heh!

Even as a kid I noticed how weirdly lighter the heads were compared to the rest of the body
But what about Shaggy? He doesn't usually have anything around his neck.
Shaggy was built different.
@StofenThe1st I just realized...after I wrote the comment, it's so he could swooce right in.

Also needs a laugh and giggle tracks then it's REALLY golden
The only thing that this is missing is for the Smiling Friends HQ to loop back around in the background again and again during the walk cycle

Not really lower quality, but it sounds flatter, like it's acoustically recorded to a record or something.
@@SuperFranzs Yeah.... lower quality audio
I notice it, fits the style

The walk cycle, the raising of the head when talking, the starring at the camera. It’s just so authentic.
